Hello guys, i have a question/problem about cMIUI for SGS2, i wanted to open this thread since i noticed i cant post comment if i dont have min 10 posts.
So, I just installed cMIUI to my S2 and i noticed that my phone can't read External SDCard Files after I unplug my cable, after unplugging i have to reboot my phone to make it read SDCard again. But sometimes it doesn't happen.
I tried turning off "USB Storage" in notification bar before unplugging, that didn't help.
2.Question : Sometimes (when i reboot my phone) it says "Preparing SD Card , Checking for errors" in notification bar, and it stucks there (and i can reach my SDcard) , Why ?.
Thanks in advance :good:
I'm not native English speaker, so please apologize if i wrote something wrong.
Come on, please, Up Up. :crying:
Try to download rescan media root from the play store and run it. It might pick up your SD card. You can also try to reflash the rom without wipe (just the cache, dalvic and fix permissions). See if that will help
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I think "rescan media" thing will not work, Because when i plug phone again after unplugging , it shows only internal sd, i will try permissions and others. Thanks for your reply , still waiting solutions or suggestions. BTW , RootBox is good ?
Edit : I tried again now to see if it will see ExtSD or not, it saw ExtSD when its on Debugging and not Debugging. So I didn't try clearing caches and permissions. But please dont close this thread , maybe it will do the same thing again and i wanna see if there are any guys that saw this problem.
Edit 2-Q : Is there a chance to see this problem because of kernel ? It was Siyah v3.5.2 (I think) and I upgraded to v4.0.1.
yep same issues with me. i just restart the phone. if it still does not work, i turn it off and reseat the sdcard. hth.
maybe there is a solution to this problem in cmiui section but I am just lazy to search now. =)
I think its about kernel, after 4.0.1 Siyah , Im still fine with USB Connection, you can try it dude.
Unfortunetaly its not about Kernel, I just recorded a video and I cut/pasted it to my PC, then i unplug the cable and the same thing happen. =( Any solutions ?.:crying:
Have you tried a complete reinstall? Or latest cMIUI ROM?
Wipe data, cache and delvik and reflash 2.8.10; use fluxi kernel, don't update kernel.

So, I've switched to Paranoidandroid from CheckROM, which means that I've done rerooting and installing of ICS via ODIN. Afterwards, I've installed Paranoidandroid ROM v0.6 and HYBRID Gapps and done the rest of the instructions.
I don't know if I've done something wrong in the process (or I'm just a noob), but after few minutes of working and figuring things out, the screen just goes off and animations comes up (I think it's looping) that is similar to boot animation (but it's not bootloop since I was already at the homescreen).
So is there any way to disable/fix that?
I also have problems with connecting to WiFi (gets stuck at Obtaining IP Address) and my wallpaper also went missing and I couldn't set a new one.
Oh yea, I also couldn't find External SD files in Gallery? I seen it's in some folder emmt or something like that, but why it isn't placed in it's default /mnt/sdcard/ext_sdcard/?
Thank you!
P.S.
Oh yeah, sorry for an inappropriate use of grammar, hope you will understand what I meant to say
EDIT:
I also cannot reboot or power off my mobile phone, only if I take out the battery -.-
Full wipe and re flash fails then re download the firmware and re falsh .
jje
I've already tried wipe data/factory reset and reinstall Parandroid ROM + HYBRID Gapps. Or you meant that I should flash ICS Stock again and then flash Parandroid?
EDIT:
I'm flashing Firmware atm (Nordic Countries one). So I should add CF Root afterwards and then reflash Parandroid and it's stuff?
Tried it, I still get that animation loop after few minutes of usage =/!
(Had to post here since I can't post it at Development)
Did you try redownloading the rom, if not then redownload paranoid rom and then reflash it.
Re download, do the corresponding wipes, re flash, fix permissions just in case.,.
Should work
Thank you on your responses, I will try it asap and provide further info about it.
EDIT:
Redownload and reflash didn't work out =/!
this called hot reboot, I guess you need to format your internal sd card, use odin to flash the stock firmware, then flash the rom you like. And by the way, your external sd card is located in emmc, you can use an app called directory bind to bind emmc as external sd card, search the forum , you can find the instruction to use the app.

hello.
It's a known issue . Response from the original thread:
set phone and contact apps to 240 (custom DPI) or more simply to "Phone DPI".
It solves the problem.
cheers.
Hi,
This is a unique kinda problem (not very unique actually but only faced by couple of people) on any cm10 based rom I have tried till now.
The issue is that after I properly flash the rom (yes, I have double checked and flashed roms exactly following OP's instructions in all cases), I find that pre-existing media files (pictures, music and videos) are not getting scanned at all and added to the stock gallery/music app. if I take any picture or upload any media using MTP with the rom, its added properly.
So, I have tried all suggestions (fixing permission, full wipe, delete .nomedia etc) and still no solutions. I am sure that the issue is with mediascanner and I have monitored it and found that eventhough I manually stop and start it using "Rescan Media ROOT", after runnnig for like 20-30 secs, it just says restarting again and again.
Additionally I have also found that when connecting via MTP, eventhough the SD Card and internal memory has alot of stuffs, they are not shown. So I think issue can be with the this also.
I've grown very frustated over last few days due to this and I cannot use any of the amazing cm10 roms that we have and have to go back to my old ics rom.
PLEAZZZ HELP !!!
I also encourage all others who are facing similar issue to post here which would definately help in understanding and fixing the issue.
Thanks !!!
really man? CM10 is not even beta yet. its got bugs. deal with them or use ICS. Im on ICS still due to them.
Complaining about bugs in a build that is so far from being stable, that'll cause trouble.

If it would be a bug in the build only, then it should have affected all who are using it, why only few are getting affected.
And yes, I know its not right to complain about still in beta cm10 releases and thats why I'm not bothering any Devs for it. I have started this thread in Q&A so that guys who are facing the issue can match the different conditions/scenarios it is happening as I know its not a coincidence that its happening on some devices and not on others.

Its either s/w or h/w man.
And from what I can tell its s/w. so its on them. get logs, and send them in.
Entropy has said to set screen to stay awake while charging in dev options. Then plug your phone into charger and reboot then give it about 15 min. to scan. This is to keep media scanner from eating battery, but you could try it and see if has any effect on your issue.

I assume that this allows for a complete scan which would help. If it doesn't help then what was lost?

Yeah , my issue is completely opposite of what most guys were facing (which is supposedly been solved in latest builds). In my case, mediascanner is not running at all to scan all media.

I would do a clean install of cm10, and NOT use the root media scanner app, and then follow what entropy said (keep display on while it scans).
Also, go to manage apps and clear data on DRM, Galley, and Media storage. Reboot and then play some music through your favorite file explorer. The Media Scanner will rebuild data in about 10 minutes to half an hour (try to keep screen on if you can)

Just tried this as I'm having the same problem, no luck. My music player was working fine yesterday then it decided to forget where all the songs were.
Same problem here with Task's AOKP latest(04/9)
I didnt have any problem with the previous release... BUT:
What i already did:
1- Full wipe to flash the new aokp release.
Tibe restore the rescanMedia Root... didnt touch it.
Media not working
2- Flash again without full wipe. Media not working
searched for .nomedia files. No results.
3- Flash again with another full wipe plus system format.
Checked with no Apps installed, media scan not working.
Installed RescanMediaRoot... didnt work.
After that i quit and decided to sleep. All my work on it was with the phone pluged. I dont know why but after unpluged a few musics show up. Only 40 of 2000. No pics.
4-Full wipe + chache format + System format + flash the previous AOKP release. MEDIA NOT WORKING.
was working yesterday...
5- Nandroid restore to number 3.
Thats where i am now. Stuck with the problem with aparently any JB release.
PS. Any new pic shows on gallery...

I'm still facing the issue with apparently any JB build till now .. right from the first one entropy released as cm10 previes build and trust me , I tried all (well almost)
Now , from your problem it seems that once with some particular way of flashing roms, we do something that causes media scan to get corrupt..
Tell me this .. before when it was working.. have u ever tried going to gallery and then settings ?? I never got that menu on any JB release...
After making too much efforts in vain to get it right , I have resorted to the alternatives :
1. Quickpic as replacement to Gallery app.. Keep the default gallery app running for camera..
2. Poweramp full version as replacement to Music.. It has a folder rescan option under setting and searches all ur music..
3. MX video player for video playback.. However I still find few codecs doesn't support audio till now.. but it is issue with all roms for all people afaik..
Let me know if you find a solution and get it working again...
I'm on AOKP for months. Never used any other rom. Never even installed to see what happens.
So, recently Task release his JB AOKP. It is 1 week older and he released 3 or 4 builds.
The first release i did not installed, The second one was released on same day and i did a full wipe to install it from AOKP ICS.
So far everything was working good.
Then came another release, the 30/08. Installed without a full wipe, just dalvik and cache, and everything was working fine.
From the build 30/08 to the build 04/09 i did bought Tibu Pro.
So i did a full wipe to install the 04/09 and the bug show up as you can see on my previous post.
The weirdest thing is full wiping + format System + format cache + install an old AOKP(30/08) and the bug are still there.
Could be that app RescanMediaRoot? Do you have it?
what do this app do to disable the scan? If we disable and uninstall what happens?
I do have setting options on gallery but when i click it nothing happens. No setting there.
Edited:
I just checked BetterBatteryStats and it looks weird. No kernel wakelocks... not even 1.
The most interesting was the Partial wakelocks:
MediaScannerService is the number one with 12min. Its running but nothing changes.
I dont like poweramp cuz the AwesomeBeats wont work with it.

I don't think "rescan Media root' app has anything to do with it .. actually
in my case , I never had this working since the start and at that time I didn't even knew about this app.
I have also noticed the partial wakelocks and if you go to running apps , you will see media storage running when u start a music/gallery app , but nothing happens..
I did tried alot to figure the problem out and seek help from all dev's that I can from this one and i9100 forum , but no results.. So finally I made peace with the workaround I mentioned...
One thing you can try in ur case is full wipe + format system/cache/data and then install a ICS rom.. after reboot.. try any JB rom again....
Good luck !! :good:

I'l try that and repport back.
The problem with media on the external SD card I believe is directly due to the change made in the location of the external SD card card within the directory. Many apps were built for ICS and GB and so when the scan is performed, the app isn't picking up the external SD card which used to be found within the internal SD. Now if media scanner isn't finding media within the internal SD card, that is a whole different story. I have media on my internal SD card and it has worked flawlessly. If you have music on the extsd and are using poweramp you can go into setting and check the box for the extsd outside the internal SD storage and it imports fine. Oh, and I'm running the latest AOKP with the Fluxxi kernel.

I do have pics on the Camera360 folder(internal SD) and it wont show on gallery.
I'll wipe everything and flash JB without the external. But i just find out something strange.
Im on recovery right now and using the file explorer of MrRobinson aroma to test it.
looks like the external its NOT on MNT folder. There are not and MNT folder on root. The external is called Sdcard and there is an emmc folder that looks empty.
Is it right? I really dont know nothing about the folder structure.
Edited:
Second time on Aromas file manager the emmc show all files now.
I belive all this means nothing.
Not all file explorers are equal. You need a root explorer to see the folders. Your music if on the internal, should be in the Music folder following the path home/sdcard/Audio/Music. Pictures on internal should be under home/sdcard/DCIM/Camera. When the external sd card is inserted it should show up in three places. At the root of the directory, you will find it as home/extSdCard, then under home/mnt/extSdCard and finally under home/storage/sdcard1. sdcard is the internal memory. I just moved photos to my extSdCard and rebooted the phone and media scanner didn't find them and setting don't exist on the gallery so you can't direct it to the new path of the extSdCard. So, I just replicated what you have been experiencing. If you move your photos to the Camera folder following the path I listed they should show up. The only reason my music works on Poweramp is because I can go to settings and check the sdcard1 folder under storage. Man I hope you don't mind all this rambling I'm doing and I hope I'm not insulting your intelligence.
No you are not. All this is new to me.
Thanks for all the info. It helped me.
Problem is gonne here.
What I did was:
1- clear cache and dalvik
2- data/factory reset
3- format system
4- format cache
5- format data
6- format internal SD
7- installed latest AOKP+ Gapps. Task's gapps don't come with Gmusic so I installed from Justin's Aroma with 1 or 2 inverted and Apex as a system app. But I did installed the normal gapps before try the Aroma.
First boot fine. I did config WiFi and gaccount slowly.
I didn't let the screen turn off.
When I first open the Gmusic everything was there.
Then I installed Titanium backup pro and did my full restore.
Tested another player , Mixzing, and was all there.
I forgot to save any pic on external since I do have Dropbox and it send it to my PC asap. So I didn't worry about pics.
Everything is working!!!!

I just flashed RR3.1.2.... I was using another ROM before this.
Everything is fine but i tried ti install iStunt2 Game and Rom Tool Box but they get FC.
Can someone please advise me how to fix this? I did try to fix permissions but its not working. I was not having any issue like this in previous ROM....
Maybe try checking the RR forums, or possibly reflashing. I've had problems before where certain apps just refuse to work on RR.
I personally have found even the latest RR to be too unstable/buggy for daily use. Every time I go back to it I find something within the first day that makes me choose another ROM.
Thanks for reply

I don't know some thing replated to permissions or just needed a reset ....
I am having this issue with my device again now. I thought its fixed but I was wrong
tried both MTP and Mass Storage Mode no luck
This is the only issue
ok Dori is on to this one So probabaly we ll get this fixed in coming release for Dori Kernel
dorimanx said:
i think i know what can fix that,
i am doing tests, some EMMC external cards acting differently, and kernel using too much RAM to copy files first to RAM then to sdcard, it's SLOW and cant handle 10~20Mb/s
if you plug it in card reader you get 4~7MB max.
so here comes then fun part! kernel load as much as possible to RAM and then try to transfer to card on background, but it's take too much RAM, and ROM service PANIC and do reset to main ROM service to release the RAM, and you get HOT boot, and damaged file on card, (not complete)
i will reduce the amount of RAM used, but it's will reduce transfer speed, but be more stable.
we need stability, for people with GOOD quality fast external cards, speeds will remain the same.
so no bad effect.
thanks for report, (i seen that bug report many times, from random users, but was busy with more important work. now i can try to fix this.)

New Release for Dori kernel with this fix
Hi everyone,
Since two days there is a really strange issue going on with my dell streak when ever i am trying to edit any contact or view them the "Sorry! the process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." and only option of Force close is provided this begun while i had PCM7 on my DS5 however i exactly dunno the root cause....the things which i have done in the last week was...i had formatted my SD card with ntfs as i had to transfer files more then 4 Gb by connecting my phone with lappy with enabled usb debugging but later it came to my notice that DS5 galary or the 3D galary coming with the ROM aint support the ntfs file system as it wasnt pullin up any images infact it was saying "No memory card inserted"
hence, after which i again reformatted my sd card to FAT32 and copied down all the data as it was originally and later on when i tired editing any contact or for the fact opening certain contacts this error message comes up.I thought its sum conflict with the ROM thus reverted back to Longhorn 2.9.3 final and yet the issue persists.
As i checked on xda forum and other forums too...have tried clearing the contact data, the contact storage data and also the Google service framework data after which i rebooted the device and yet the issue still persists.Basically now if i try creating, editing, viewing contacts this error message pops up.
Please can anyone gemme a helping hand in this issue.
Regards,
Amer.
i'm not expert, so i can only suggest you to :
- start fresh, wipe everthing, fix all permission, (try with other rom if stil persist)
OR
- try boot without SDcard

Could you please tell me what does "fix all permission" mean...?
i had done wipe delvick cache and wipe cache partions and system format from the StreakMod recovery menu before the new installation of the Longhorn 2.9.3 final...i dint restored the back up and after the installation as adviced in the article i had done a factory reset from streakMod recovery menu and then a factory reset from the Dell streak Menu.
Please suggest me furthur.

already wipe all but still have this issue...? how about turn it on without sdcard?
maybe its internal sd problem, maybe.
try flash stock rom or DSC first.

i think it must be related to the recent update of google play... and anything related...
i thought i am the only one that got the problem... lol
the problem occurs when it tries to access google account in the phone...
so, for the workaround .. i dont use stock.. instead i use GO Contacts Ex as defaults...
hope this helps... for the time being until a true fix is available...

Resolved...!
Hi Folks,
I come bearing good news...the issue is resolved...This morning i decided to reflash the Longhorn 2.9.3 ROM but before which i wanted to try sumthing.....i Booted into the streakMod menu and wipe data/factory reset from that menu and then let the device reboot then i booted into dell recovery menu and did a Dell factory reset and then reinstalled all the apps so far i have funneled down to the resolutions that the whats app version 3.1.36(669520-74) is causing the android.process.acore to crash.Once i installed the application from google play store the issue seems to be resolved.
This helped for me.....and also a issue with the LED notifications of longhorn 2.9.3 final just through root browser go into /system/etc/init.streak.post_boot.sh and view the file in the RB Text Editor.
After the file opens just save it....without making any changes as the # wouldnt be present in the led notification lines and reboot....the notification would be working .
Hope it helps and your doing it on your own risk.
Thank you to arryhariyadi and deysmacro for your valued time and advices really appreciate it.
Regards,
Amer
I had this error as well on Longhorn and unfortunately I was messing about with clearing the data of contacts, google play services, deleting contacts.db file it just made things worse.
Had to do a complete wipe and reflash and it seems to be fine now on DSC 2.3.

nice.. i am using whatsapp too.. there is our culprit caught red-handed
I installed Cyanogenmod 10.1 on my Galaxy S2 which is working fine except when I try to connect it to a PC through USB. I plug in the cable and nothing, absolutely nothing, happens. Not even a sound or an unrecognized device.
However, when I reboot into Download mode, I hear a sound when connected and Zadig can see it. When I disconnect, I hear the disconnect sound. This has led me to believe it has something to do with the ROM.
I have tried different PCs, same results. Installed the USB Switcher app from Play Store, nothing changed. Downloaded and installed the latest Samsung USB drivers from here, reboot and still no signs of life. :crying:
Not sure if this is related but when I go to System Settings>Storage>USB STORAGE the "Mount USB card" option is grayed out. Even though I have an microSD card installed and I can listen to the music that's stored on it. Furthermore, I can access it in the CM File Manager app but only with superuser privileges where it is mounted as sdcard1 (I can only browse sdcard0 in safe mode). Don't know how relevant this is but I thought I'd put it out there.
I'm sure there is someone smarter than me out there with the answer to my problem. Any help is greatly appreciated
Given what you've already tried (going back to stock, different PC's, etc, etc), and given how quick/easy/cheap it is to do yourself, I'd be replacing the USB board/port. KeithRoss39 has a guide in the General section; search for it. Has all the info you need to get it done without fuss. These things often don't die completely & will often show a few faults like you're seeing (I presume you can still charge the phone normally ?)
Well, you can always buy a card reader. They are like super cheap. I live in India where it costs around 30INR (which is less than half a dollar). So until you change your USB port, you can still transfer your files by removing the sd card and putting it in the card reader. Easy peasy!
Do hit the thanks button if i helped!
Or maybe it's the extSD bug from CM 10.x kernel, have you tried switching rom/kernel?

Thanks for the replies! :good:
I don't think the USB board is broken because it worked when I used Heimdall to flash and ADB to push the CM.zip to the microSD card, two days ago. I bought the phone used where it was factory reset and I installed CM (10.1 stable) straight away. When I reboot into Download mode and connect the phone to my PC, it works. Then I can mount the microSD card through ADB so that's not really the problem. What I want is to connect my phone through USB to my computer without Download mode + ADB. Like "normal".
Aello, could you give me further info about this bug? I can't seem to find any reference to it through Google. No, I haven't tried switching ROMs beside my switch from stock (which I didn't use at all) to CM 10.1.
Any further tips would help
I would suggest you to try some different custom/unofficial ROMs, since CM used to have some issues on mounting the extSD in 10.1 and 10.2 kernel.
I think I'll just try that. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
I would firstly try to flash a different, compatible, kernel, such as dorimanx's or gustavo's or apolo's, try to go under the storage managment and see if any new menu pops up. If this doesn't fix the problem, I'd move to a kitkat rom with either built in kernel or switch to one of the mentioned (kitkat version).

After researching quite a bit I have decided to go with Dorimanx's kernel. However, I'm just a little bit paranoid about bricking my phone and it would really help to get a clarification on some things beforehand.
According to the Dorimanx's installation guide I should reboot into recovery and install the zip from sdcard. Is CWM the right tool for this and how would I do it? Is it as simple as installing gapps, just install zip from sdcard? Boom, done! No need for any wipe/factory reset/etc?
Thanks for all the help so far!
I had the same issue when I flashed latest omniROM today, turns out the phone was in USB debugging mode so didn't connect. Go to developer options in settings and check it is not in USB debugging mode!
If you have no developer mode go to settings - about phone and then click lots on build number until it says you are a developer (or something like that), then the developer option will appear.
Hopefully that will fix it for you!

Kernel flashing is boom, done yes, tho caches (NO need to wipe data/factory) wiping doesn't hurt. CWM is the right tool and the new kernel will bring his custom recovery along (it will or will not change, depens on which recovery you are on). Make sure to get the right kernel for your rom!
