Bootloop / Volume Up btn Broken so no DL or Recovery Modes - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

About 9mnths a go I dropped my phone (gt-I9100, GS2) in some water. It appeared to be dead, so I left it off. After a day I turned it back on and everything was fine again except the volume up key was not working. Anyway I could live with that, in fact I lived with it so much that I all but forgot about it. That was until today...
I tried to flash a new ROM and something went wrong and I got stuck in a bootloop, no problem just boot into recovery right.... oh yeah requires volume up key Then I thought oh ok no problem I will boot into Custom OS flash mode and reflash a stock ROM with ODIN.... oh **** first stage is 'Volume up: Continue'. So I am stuck.
I know possible answers to this are "No" or "Get your volume key fixed" but is there any other way I can solve this issue and flash any ROM?
The phone is rooted and has CWM recovery but as explained above, I can't use the volume up.
As the phone doesn't boot past the Samsung Galaxy SII logo...running ADB or Fastboot in a terminal doesn't show up with any results.
Help....
ps. The bootloop occured after flashing with AOKP JB Rom for I9100

A USB jig (very cheap/common) will boot your device to download mode, and you can then flash through Odin.

Am I missing something here? You are talking only about your volume up button not working, right? If the volume down button is still working you could enter download mode with Volume Down + Home + Power and flash another firmware. However if volume down isn't working too then see post above.

Yes you are, because after you boot into download you have to press vol up to continue...

Oops, I see. Too bad it is not the touch version of CWM...

[Q] Home button not responding in recovery mode?

Hey guys,
I'm attempting to fix a friends Galaxy ace as I have dealt with other android phones but i'm an Ace noobie. The problem started when the phone booted straight into recovery mode with a system/CSC error of some sort. The volume keys work to highlight an option but the home key does not respond to select the option.
I used ODIN to re-flash and everything went smoothly until it finished and it booted straight back into recovery mode but with no CSC error this time.
The home button still does not respond and a hard reset by taking out the battery just ends up with the phone booting back into recovery mode.
Do you reckon the home button is actually screwed? Or is there something more.
Thanks in advance!

Afaik home won't work in recovery

I assumed thats how you select the highlighted option?
Either way the phone keeps booting into recovery and i'm stumped :/
It is how you select he must have misunderstanded you
I have never heard of a prob like this I recon this is tha button but devs like nims, spacecaker could probobly tell if this is a soft error
GOOD LUCK
Try downloading another stock rom and flas that through odin. I think there was aproblem when you were flashing the csc
Galaxy ace X Miracle V2.

ClockworkMod recovery wont open.

So I decided to go ahead and root my player. Then I found this custom rom and followed their instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517194
It keeps on bootlooping my device, and even though installed steves kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377771
(which contains CWM) I cannot boot CWM recovery from boot.
It booted up a few times in CWM recovery, but now it doesnt want to. Since then ive tryed flashing steves kernal sveral times to see if I can get it to work. It hasn't.
I really just want to get my device back to stock, I have a stock rom but it still gets stuck in a bootloop.
Help!

FIXED
OK i managed to fix my own problem. I installed steves kernel, cleared the cash and the dalvik-cache. Then I flashed the stock rom and wiped all data(reset the factory settings) and then cleared the cashe.
Then my device booted up properly. :good:
Glad to hear you fixed it

You get into Clockwork mod by turning off the device. Then Hold power, Volume up, and the settings (the one to the left of the home button) at the same time. Sometimes you have to let go when the samsung logo appears and then hold it again

could you give more incorrect info, the CORRECT steps for entering CWM (or stock if not using a custom kernel) is to power device completely off, wait for the vibrate to indicate shutdown. Then press and hold volume up and the power button, once the samsung logo comes on release only the power button, do not release the volume up, continue holding volume up until CWM loads.

On my 4.0 US I don't hold the volume any longer than the power button to get into CWM--i.e., I let both go at the samsung logo, and it goes in.

That's how I always entered CWM or the stock one lol. It works for me. Also another way I did it was wait until the samsung logo appears and then hold power + volume up at the same time. I didn't let go of either the power button or volume up button, and just waited for it to come on.
Next time for a better result Go to a stock rom and Flash a kernel with odin. best way to Install CWM perfectly.
like Terra Silet, i have Gplayer 4 and Rooted This Kernel One Milion time

Thanks for the reply. Is adb accessible from this situation? I did try it but when I did "adb devices" it didn't list my phone which lead me to believe that adb was not accessible in this situation (i.e. the phone must be booted up.
I think I have sorted it now, I went in to ODIN mode and hammered the volume up key about 100 times in quick succession, eventually one of them registered and it went into Download Mode, I have just followed the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458 and it looks like I have my phone back
I think until the volume key is sorted I might have to flash via ODIN.

i think stock kernel dont support adb on boot or in recovery
u can go into recovery from device in terminal just type : reboot recovery or i think rom manager has option to reboot into recovery or adb
and 99% from roms on xda have option to reboot into recovery when u press power button
JIG?

We need a lot more info. What did you flash, how did you flash it. Where did you get the firmware. I ask the last question because according to your profile, you just created this account today. Which tells me you got the firmware elsewhere.

To boot into recovery you want to release the buttons by the second Samsung logo pop-up. And don't plug into computer. That's for download mode.
Regardless, I don't see recovery being much help to you if Odin is not working for you.
Is odin showing that its successfully flashing your phone? After flashing back to stock with Odin, is the siyah logo at least gone?

Yes, but you need to describe everything you did and everything that happened to make you want to flash back to stock. Without knowing what caused the problem in the first place, we can't help you very much. You say you installed many roms (stock, custom). Your phone probably did not fail randomly. There is probably some event or circumstance you can think of, or change you made, just before it failed. Please be specific.

Hold the Vol+/- & PWR button at the same time, when seeing first boot, keep holding all 3, when past 2nd boot screen, release all 3.
There's no PC involved.
welll the phone was perfectly when one day pum ! turn off and then i cant boot normally. So i try to put in recovery mode and i hold volume upvolume down+power and in the second boot when i see the samsung logo i release and nothing happend. and i see only the samsung galax logo bla bla.. when i turn on the phone normally i can see the samsung logo then de siyah kernel and stack there. if i wait some minutes its restart and do it again. I try to install with odin some stock rom and pass perfectly but the phone still show me the same. its like i didnt change anything. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh i dont know if u understand me jajjaaj my english is not very good lol im gonna cry

Stuck on splash screen

I completed the steps as described in this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...t/baseband-modem-oc5-odin-flashable-t3097789] , and the phone is now stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy Note 3" screen. The 1st flash went fine and it rebooted normally. After flashing the bootloader, it never became operational.
Figured it might be better to start a new thread rather then confuse the original

I'm not sure, I rooted when I 1st go the phone and haven't updated it since...was 4.3 I think ... I got the message to update or have service interruption..so I guess I assumed to much and should have researched a little more
Power off the phone and the hold power button + volume up button + home button at the same time and try to get to your recovery then do a factory reset from there and see if it will boot
