No Call when on WCDMA - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All,
I just got a brand new Samsung S3 from Amazon.de yesterday.
I set the phone up and then turned data on. When I had GSM only mode, everything was perfectly fine. The moment I switched to WCDMA, on notification bar I see 'emergency calls only' and when I try to make a call it tells me that I am not registered on the netork - H+ is there and I can browse the Internet and have full coverage.
I rooted the phone originally, so to return to stock I flash XXBLG8 instead of the ALF5 that was on the phone.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I have also just noticed, that if I simply switch from WCDMA to GSM I get emergency call only too. Only after I got into flight mode and back I get normal coverage on 2G.
NOTE: Internet works on both 2G and 3G modes without problems.

Now I just used *#1234# to check CSC and it seems I am on BLG8 for PDA and CSC.

SIM card problem, of course.

1. Disable Mobile data, then wait for 3-5 minutes
2. Enter Service mode, then change network to WCDMA only, repeat it like 2 times.
Done.
Correctly good luck...

my problem is described here -Can others be so kind as to verify if they are also having an issue with receiving voice calls or SMS while their phones are using the 2G network for data access. (3G and wifi either unavailable or turned off.)
We have this issue with Orange and I have tested it on one Sunrise iphone4 and we had the same issue. Which is not surprising since Orange and Sunrise are operated by the same staff. It does work correctly over Swisscom.
I raised this case with Orange over one month ago and they still have given me no concrete feedback as to why their network behaves like this.
(FYI this is a network issue and not related to any phone configuration).
Feel free to harass Orange about this. It might get them to pull their fingers out a bit. When I raised the case it took me about 10 calls to their support plus 2 visits to Orange shops to finally get a technician who was capable of understanding this simple but critical issue.
EXACT STEPS LEADING TO PROBLEM:
1. Force phone to use GSM (2G) mode only or be in an area with no 3G coverage, or if your phone chooses to use the 2G network
2. Disable switching to wifi:
3. Connect to 2G packet data, download email or download webpages: Status Bar-> spinning wheel
4. While packet data is connecting, using another phone place a call to your phone
5. After packet data has connected, using another phone place a call to your Phone
EXPECTED OUTCOME:
You expect the packet data connection to either DROP or be SUSPENDED (depending
on network capabilities) and for the phone to ring indicating an incoming call or SMS.
ACTUAL OUTCOME:
The packet data connection persists and remains active; the phone does not ring
and the call is handled by the network as if the phone was unreachable (for most
users this means forwarding to voicemail).
REPRODUCIBILITY:
always; no exceptions.
This has been tested extensively on the Orange network by me and many other users.
Tested devices which all show the same issue, iPhone4, iPhone3GS, Iphone 3G, several Android models.

[Q] Only data network available - no calling/texts

I picked up an unlocked TMo One in New York last week. I used it there with my Norwegian SIM with no problems.
Back home, I get "No Service" using the exact same SIM-card. Using the *#*#INFO#*#*-menu, I can see the SIM-card is recognised because it displays my carrier in the "Current Network" field. I am suspecting the TMo-infused Sense OS to reject my card, since to my understanding the phone is compatible with EU networks. Will i be fine if i flash another ROM, like the stock GPe, and get rid of the TMo-stuff altogheter, or is there another rock in the road here?
I used my Tmobile HTC One with the stock ROM in Norway using a Telenor SIM and in Greece using a Vodafone SIM.
I would make sure you have the proper APN info (I can't remember the appropriate one for the Norwegian carriers). I believe it should work without issues (mine did). If it worked with that SIM card already, it's not locked and it's not rejecting it.
Also, I found that when I returned home to the US, I had to choose Settings -> Mobile Data -> Network Operators and choose Select Automatically (even though it was already chosen). Maybe you need to do that too.
Currently I am running Android Revolution and that also works fine with my Norwegian and TMOUS SIM cards.
Good luck!
Thanks! I've at least made some progress. I tried setting Network Selection to automatic, and got reception, however only for about half a minute. I then tried adding my provider's APN info. This has given me permanent data connection, but still no GSM reception for texts and phone calls. I do get 2g data when in low coverage areas. I am finding this weird. Can anyone shed some light?
Okay. Just wanted to post my latest findings - if others are experiencing the same issue. I've flashed the latest Google Edition RUU, to see if the TMo ROM was causing it. But i still don't get GSM coverage. Data still connected on both 2G and 3G (haven't been within 4G coverage yet..)
When flashing I also updated firmware to latest.
Phone info says Current network: "NetCom" (my home network) GSM service: "Emergency Calls only" (I tested this, and I am able to place the call to emergency services) and GPRS service: "Connected" (I am typing this on my data connection via WiFi-tethering, actually)
The status menu shows this: Service state "Out of service" and My phone number "Unknown".
If anyone can come up with a theory, I am all ears..

Have you tried taking the phone to your provider? Maybe you need an update which or setting which they can provide.
I find it strange that it wouldn't recognize your phone number, usually that's a sign of some type of incompatibility with the phone and the network.

I have contacted my provider to see if there's anything they can do. But they're playing a little hard to get.. I was afraid there would be an issue with compatibility at first, by since my data connection is all right, I'm not so sure. Also erdelyt above here says he has used the TMo phone in Norway without trouble. He has another provider, however. They run their own network, so I will be trying with one of their SIM cards next, if my provider NetCom aren't of any help. Thanks for your help so far. I'll be posting my findings further!
So, I got to try a Telenor SIM card the other day, and the issue is still there. Although, with that card the phone number was read and displayed in the phone info menu. The owner of the card suggested there was an unlock issue - but I did make calls with my phone and SIM card in the US, so I don't see how that could be.
So that's a small step further, but now I just have to wait to see what my carrier says..
I changed the title for this thread after my findings.. I got a new SIM-card for my carrier, and i got coverage to make one phone call, but after i hung up, it was gone. I am really in the dark here.. It can of course be a hardware fault, but that's a bit strange for an entirely new product..

Galaxy S6 Edge SM-G925F on T-Mobile USA and LTE/Data problems

Hello. I have an SM-G925F which I bought from Telekom Macedonia and I am still using my number from there also but I am currently in the US and would like to use it on T-Mobile USA.
I know that the device supports all the same bands as the SM-G925T model.
The problem I am having is that when my phone is set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM in the Network Mode settings, I do not have any data connection at all, only when I make a call, I start to get a data connection but only 3G/H+. If I switch my setting to WCDMA/GSM, then I get a data connection at all times like normal but it still is only 3G/H+. I have tried two different APNs and different settings in the APN but I still cannot get a data connection at all times on the LTE/WCDMA/GSM setting and I cannot get LTE/4G at all.
After contacting T-Mobile, all they came up with is to try to have the same software reinstalled on my phone. Does anyone have any experience with this and can anyone help me?
Anyone?
Call Tmobile and have them input your phone's IMEI in their system. Ask for the APN settings as well. I am on the same boat and one call to ATT got me from H to 4G. Your phone will just show 4G, not LTE but you will get LTE speeds regardless.
I tried doing that too. I called T-Mobile a few times and they confirmed my IMEI number being on the account but still no luck. It's really weird..sometimes I get 3G/H+ on the "LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)" network mode setting on the phone but most of the time, I get NO DATA connection at all..only the signal bars.
Any Update
Did you finally figure it out? Is LTE working now?

No service in Europe with Japanese SO-03F

Hi guys,
I own a Japanese Z2, originally by docomo (SO-03F) and flashed the English firmware I found in this forum (not sure for which area tho), except obviously the modem which I needed to use the docomo SIM.
I came back to Europe, unlocked the phone through an online service which worked fine but none of my SIMs can get a signal or behaves very weirdly.
I tried flashing the modem from the ROM I used before but then I couldn't get any reception and looking for networks through settings didn't show anything. With the Japanese ROM modem, I can find networks if I look manually but I can't connect to them. It shows "Selected network unavailable" and or "Can't connect to network at this time." after selecting the correct one.
I tried fiddling with the settings, different network types etc in the normal menu and in the one accessible through entering *#*#INFO#*#* but nothing helped. The phone number in the menu is shown correctly. As preferred network type, LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) is selected.
I have an older sim card in the right format which can't connect (works fine in other phones) but SOMETIMES I get like 2 bars for a few minutes. It's for phonecalls and SMS only. The internet only card I have is smaller so I need an adapter and won't connect at all. Is there something I can do about this?
Thanks a lot!

SCH-I545 service mode messed up

Dear friends,
I did not find any similar problem resolved here (maybe I missed some, sorry in that case). Problem is as follows:
I have unlocked Verizon SCH-I545 model of Samsung S4 and I use it here in Serbia. Everything worked fine except 4gLTE. I only had 3G and H+ (max 6mbps download). Because of that I used to experiment with service mode (*#27663368378# this worked for me) and I messed something up. Now I have the situation that I can use phone only in GSM mode that I can set only through this service mode (GSM only) and then I have only Edge or GPRS for internet speed. When I switch to Global (which is used to work with 3g or H+ max) I lose network GSM and it keeps tilting (when it have edge it works but when it gets Gprs it says no service-emergency calls only). Than I am forced to switch to GSM mode again through meny to have my calls back. In prefered network mode I have only 1. Global, 2. LTE/CDMA, 3. LTE/GSM/UMTS. Is there any way to set this service mode settings back to default because I did the stock flash through odin with original samsung firmware (latest I545VRSGPL1) and did the factory reset before that with full wipe offcourse! I really love this phone and I am pretty desperate in my tries to resolve this issue. Please help if there is help!?
Best regards from Serbia
