Eternity ROM SD Card Issues - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all!
I recently had downloaded the ROM GO Airborn, put it on my SD from my laptop, then flashed it through recovery. The problem I had was that it doesnt show any music/photos that are on the SD card. I thought that I had accidently wiped the SD card, but when I go into storage in settings and Astro form the market, it shows that the card is mounted and I can browse it.
I thought it would of been the ROM, so I flashed Eternity ROM after a clean wipe. I am having the same problem. Settings-->Storage says that I have 30GB total and 9GB remaining, and ASTRO can browse the SD card, its all still there. I just cant seem to access it. Any help?

Are you using superwipe before flashing the roms and are you using clockworkmod recovery to flash it?

superwipe no, clockwork yes.

That's what I thought. Go to the eternity forums and go to the FAQ and get super wipe from there. You should also download 4ext recovery because cwm is causing way to many issues here lately.

Will that fix the SD card issue?

I also read recently that cwm has been placing a .no media folder on the SD card and by deleting it some issues may be solved. Worth a shot I guess. My only other suggestion would be to backup the contents and reformat the SD card.

@disconnecktie I love you, man. Haha. The .nomedia issue is exactly what it was. I performed a ".nomedia" search and deleted all of those files. What recovery would you suggest flashing? TWRP is what I am going to flash right now. Anything better available? Thank you!!!

4ext for the win bro. Its the first app I paid for and worth every penny. It is free too but it is so good I had to buy it.

Idea for Loading Roms.

I have been reading the forums and lurking for a while and have noticed a lot of devs stating that their roms may wipe the SD card. I have a million old SD cards laying around from previous devices and what-not. Is there any reason why I can't use an SD card for just Rom flashing, that way there is no other data to lose? Then when the Rom is loaded, put in my other SDcard...? It also eliminates the possibility of accidentally having a stray PH98 in the event you forgot to delete before going to bootloader...
That's what I do. I have a spare SanDisk 16 gig that I use solely for Rom flashing

You could do that, but I believe the devs mean the internal sd. I've never had my external sd card wiped by flashing a rom.

Neither have I. Only when I went through unlocking it.

I've never had anything wiped that I didn't tell it to while flashing either but I find it easier to keep all my roms on one card. And that I don't accidentally wipe all my files if I'm not paying attention.

"lost" my CWM backups...but not really?

I think I'm too inexperienced to be rom'ing on my everyday phone. I was running Team Objection lf5 and it was great except for google voice and MHL-out. So I decided to play with CM9. Now I cannot revert back to Objection? CWM recovery menu does not see ANYTHING on my external sd card. But when I pop the card into my laptop everything is still there, including all 3 of my CWM backup dates. What gives? I installed TWRP recovery to see if that was any different but it shows my backups as blank too. (Can TWRP even see/use CWM backup files anyways??).
So if the backups are there....how do you recommend I go about regaining access to them? Thank you in advance for saving my butt!
TWRP cannot use CWM backups and when u boot into CWM u should have an option to restore from internal memory or SD card, which is external. Try that

CWM gives me something like "directory not found" both when SD is mounted and unmounted.
Might be that CM9 is having terrible seeing the external. Put the backup on your internal.

This is true, it's only navigating the internal SD. BUT I can't mount the internal in CM9 to move the backups there. I'm stuck right?
No, flash a ROM, then move the backup on your phone, them restore the backup

Got it. I'm in CM9 right now. Got USB storage "working" in that it connects, but while copying my clockworkmod folder to the internal it will cause the phone to reboot each and every time. (4x so far). I'll keep trying but this was an absolute waste of a day.
External has been wonky on CM9, just flash another ROM, preferably tw based, so you can transfer the file, then restore your backup.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
Holy crap the whole problem was incompatibility between CWM and CWMtouch versions. Never would have guessed, but then again I know so little that I thought the backups they create would be compatible. Thanks everyone for your help.
CM7 was/is great on my Incredible, but it appears I am not ready for CM9 on the Note. (With the bugs in CM9 I cannot believe people are asking for CM10 already, yikes). Then again, the is on my everyday, daily driver including work phone so I need every little thing to work right.

[Q] SD Card won't mount in recovery

Hey guys, I am rooted/unlocked running Jelly'Beans' Build 11 (going to build 12 tonight) and for some reason I can access my SD card while the phone is running normally, but when I boot to recovery it says I cannot mount the external SD to flash a file.
I get around this by just using the internal storage, but this is not ideal. Can anyone give me an explanation of why this might be happening, or maybe tell me how to fix it? Thanks!
either a bad sd card or you need to format the card to fat32.

If it were bad or formatted improperly, would I still be able to access and use it under normal phone conditions? I use it to save my pictures to, and I can access it from the phones file browser as well as when it is plugged into a pc.

cwm recovery does not recognize exfat. you will have move your files to a pc then format the card to fat32 if you want cwm to recognize it.

I tried switching to TWRP, but under the supported devices in CWM it only lists the Note 2 HSPA. and I am obviously on VZW. Is this ok?

Just download goo manager. Open the app, hit the menu key and select install recovery. It will download the right one

This method worked for me. I am on a Galaxy S4 SGH m919. I stumbled upon this posting by doing a search. I was having a problem where my SD card is working but it wouldn't mount in recovery, so I couldn't restore back ups, of flash anything. I only had this problem after I had flashed Google Edition 4.3. I still don't know exactly what caused it, but this recovery TWRP did the trick. Thank you so much for helping me out!!

CWM Recovery Now Wiping Properly

So I have searched and searched and cannot get a definitive answer. I am currently using CWM as my recovery. I go to flash a new ROM and wipe like I used to. ONLY thing is that wiping doesn't actually wipe. What I mean is things in the down load folder or random folders not on my sd card are still there. This would all get wiped before but ive had this problem since getting the S4. Ive had some root problems before so I had to unroot and reroot so everything was wiped. Now I have been running smoothly without needed to odin back to stock.
What am I doing wrong or what could be the problem. I want to wipe the whole device except external sd card. In CWM I usually select the factory reset wipe, partition, and dalvik. Should I be doing something different?
TIA

Probably need to hit the data partition as well. Never had a problem with cwm myself.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
Your download folder shouldn't get wiped on a factory data reset.
What partition are you choosing? Sorry i didn't use cwm, and i lost custom recovery with a warranty replacement, but sounds like you are maybe not choosing your internal.
Also why do you need the sd card wiped? As long as your app data isn't carrying over you should be fine switching roms.
Also twrp worked for this so really you could just switch.

Oh also i know some recoveries have called internal cards external for technicality, so maybe take it your sd card and wipe everything possible then replace it.

I had some very bad experiences with TWRP on this device. Never on any other device. I prefer TWRP. I should try the taking out the sd card and wiping everything. Thanks I just odin'd back to stock and rooted. I was getting memory notifocations and random stuff. I am going to try TWRP I know its been updated since I had the problems.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Memory notifications are common in this device, many times inaccurate on touchwiz. They're more about the allocated space for apps and not internal total. Next time check your storage tab in settings, of you're not out of free space on the sd card but still get warnings then wiping that partition won't help.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I was getting low. It had been a while since rooting so I had loads of unwanted folders (temp stuff) and stuff from other roms. I was down to 1.3GB.The notifications are fine except certain apps or games were starting to not work properly. I literally had to scroll through about 4 pages of folders in my sdcard0 folder. Now that ive rerooted I have about a page and a half. I now have 8.78GB free space.
Edit: after rerooting I wasnt able to get TWRP. In Goomanager I kept getting "no recoveries were found for your device". So I am still on CWM.

Same thing happened to me on my old gnex loading kitkat, think goo.im was having problems. I ended up loading cwm too as it was flashable.
Understand what you mean some rom makers have locked folders. I never had much of a problem but I didn't switch off hyperdrive much.

Yeah I always get tempted with AOSP ROMs so I flash them and then can't use it for one thing or another (camera, network speeds, etc.) And revert to Hyperdrive.

[Q] Can't flash CoolICS

Hello,
I have stock ICS 403 active with HBOOT 1.53.0007 and unlocked resp. rooted my Evo ed using the HTC method.
I have also installed 4ext recovery using fastboot tool and tried to flash Cool-ICS-v18-EvoG.zip after backup,factory/data reset, wipe cache and davlik.
But I have got message E:can't open /sdcard/Cool-ICS-v18-EvoG.zip (bad).
I made a restore and downloaded again the zip-file as I thout it might be corrupted. Resul the same.
Then I googled and found that I can flash a ICS based rom also using the original recovery (CWM). I reflashed recovery again with original cwm recovery image.
Performed the same steps: Backup, factry reset, wipe cache and davlik.
But also there the zip-file could not be opened.
What might be wrong?
Could you please give me a hint. Thanks in advance.
With kind regards,
Klaus
Reformat your sd card from scratch using 4ext recovery, or try another sd card.
Maybe it's bad.
Try to backup ther data on your sd card before.

Thanks for yor your reply. This I have done already.
I bought a brand new sd card. But the problem still remains? Might there be a permission problem?

Thanks again. I Tried with LeeDr0iD rom. And I had the same. I am really stuck.
Could it come, because I downloaded with my PC and the copied it using USB?
I mean I can copy, delete, rename and move files using Total Commander. So I don't think it comes from a wrong formatted sdcard.
It must be something else.
Thanks again.
With kind regards,
Klaus

No I am happy.
