I've been having the same problem for the past 2 weeks. Anywhere from mms and data issues. I constantly have to refresh the page while browsing the web. I'm starting to regret porting my number to them.

Yes, my wife & I have been having issues now for 7 to 10 days. They keep telling me all is well with our accounts and the local tower. Go to the Straight Talk forums and you'll see that a bunch are having problems. It's to be enough enough to make me want to go back to Simple Mobile and save $5 a month but only have 2G.
If we flash the tmobile radio we should get 4g on their service, shouldn't we with the Note? Simple mobile that is, sorry if that wasn't clear.

The trouble with Simple Mobile is that GSM phones only get 2G. That's why I switched over to Straight Talk.

I think I'm just going to have to suck it up, I really wanted to know whether or not I was the only one having that issue or whether it had something to do with the rom I'm using. Thanks to everyone who responded to the question. I hope it works out eventually for all of us.

The data connection is back
I have been experiencing some intermittent connection with Straight Talk (AT&T sim card) in the last week, but it looks like the service back today. I can connect to internet normally now.
Keep in mind that Straight Talk does throttle data if you are a heavy user. They will deny it through and through but it's very true. I was with them for quite some time and all was well until my speeds began to average at about 120-200 kbps. And keep in mind that I'm not even a heavy user. I called them multiple times and they denied that anything was wrong with my account but I'm not stupid. I was getting speeds around 4-5 mbps in my house and all of the sudden I'm getting speeds that resemble dial up speeds. Luckily enough, I use Google Voice so I didn't have to worry about losing my number so I decided to try out H2O. Dear Lord has that been a nightmare. I paid 60 bucks for 2 gigs and unlimited talk and text and wouldn't you know, I began being throttled after I used about 300 mbs. So here I am with a whole month left getting speeds at about 150 kbps. I tried getting a hold of them but they didn't pick up and I sat on hold for about 45 minutes. I've gone back to at&t and my advice for all of you would be to stay away from these scams. At&t will let you bring your own phone in and in that respect you won't have to sign a contract. You might be paying a bit more, but at least you're getting what you pay for...

I've got an i777 and i'm having the exact same problems. I've called straight talk a few times on the issue and well they just pretend there is no issue. data will disappear completely for no reason and then come back when it feels like it. I just discovered that forcing the phone to use the edge network restores data connection while connected to edge, but the moment I go back to HSPA the data quits working. from watching the data symbol try to jump from 3G to H+ I notice it just gets stuck at H. My phone will now normally sit with H displayed insread of 3G (data dormant) or H+ (when my using the data connection). This leads me to believe its a fast dormancy issue with them, or maybe i'm wrong. However, from looking over at the straighttalk forums, it appears several are having problems and straight talk isn't doing anything about it. Is this something we could file a complaint with the BBB over?
Ours straightened up Monday. It been good all week. Finally!!!

OK a friend of mine on a Epic (old one) told me that he got a sprint communications update, or something along the lines of that. Now, he says he can talk on the phone and browse the Internet at the same time. Anybody else got this update?
He said that the guy from radio Shack said it isn't just his device, but other phones on sprint too.
Also, strange thing. He also says that he is picking up 4G signal where we live which is North Cape coral in Florida, and we never had 4G here. Maybe sprint is still rolling out wimax in a few cities.

Anyone know how I can get roaming to work? I'm rooted, s-off with 1.58 hboot. Whenever my phone switches to roaming, I can't make/recieve calls nor texts. However it shows 1x for data. ST runs on the t-mobile network. You need to flash a compatible modem.

Straight talk runs on either. Depends on your area. You're most likely at&t seeing as 90% of straight talk is.
Straight Talk leases their services. The reason it's slow, it's NOT hspa. It's 3G and that's most likely the best you'll get.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
OP, are you being throttled? Seems ST possibly throttles on 100MB a day and 2GB a month. That would leave you with H+ and horrible speeds. Contact ST and ask them to reset your network.
They used to throttle me ALL THE TIME! Good price but **** service. Went back to AT&T so I can use MY data how I pay to use it, not how they want me to.

Have you input the straight talk APN?
At any rate I read somewhere else online that it can also depends on the radio you have which I don't know much about I do know about rooting and flashing custom roms what I have never done tho is changed out radios or kernels on on that site somebody said something about UCl F 2 I have looked online and have not been able to find a downloadable 1

Flashing a modem is easier than flashing a rom. Get the modem.bin on your sd card, boot into recovery, flash the modem.bin using CWM/TWRP (no wiping needed), reboot, check for correct APN settings (some roms don't include APN settings).
Im sorry bear with me ranger but can u go a li little more in depth for me where do I get that modem. bin

If you have really slow speeds then you are either being throttled or you are not filling in the APN correctly. Does not sound like a modem issue. What speed does your notification bar show you connected as? How about settings > about phone > status >Mobile Network Type: ?

How about a screenshot of the status page in settings? APN looks good. Speed test sure looks like you are throttled. For chit and giggles try removing the proxy and port from the APN and see what you get. Not the MMS proxy and port.

Tethering works perfectly for me on ARHD 10.2 (which is what I'm guessing you meant to type). Just go to settings, hit more, mobile network shareing, then go into portable wifi hotspot settings, name your hotspot and PW, then hit the checkbox. I had no problem.
Just curious, when you did your install with AROMA, did you hit AT&T, or international?

No.... Using the "phone" apn yes, at 5GB of usage I get throttled down to .047mbps down.
Then I just switch over to the wap.cingular APN and BAM pulling 6-10mbps down on H+/3G. No throttling here..
This thread is a bit confusing to me.
Are you guys saying AT&T charges extra for tethering?
ATT charges $$$ for a seperate data plan which lets you tether Internet, which is also limited to about 5gb or 3gb, not too sure. If you use tethering on a regular phone (stock rom with bloatware- fresh from the store), they would probably charge you for tethering because of the detection apk they put in there.
The way to bypass this is to use a custom rom, Internet tethering should work on it, maybe you could reflash/ reset the phone (all the settings and whatnot) maybe try a different rom?
Also, I diddnt know you could bypass ATT throttle, could you post all the complete APN settings to do that?
Cheers,
OK, please forgive me for being slow. You only save money if you're tethering from a phone with unlimited data plan, right? If you're on a limited plan, it doesn't matter and AT&T should not charge you extra, right?

If you go over the limit on a limited plan, they charge you extra $$$. I think it is $20 for 1 more GB.
If you are detected tethering on a stock ATT phone, they will probably charge you for tethering plan
If you are on unlimited data, you may lose it (plan) if you are detected tethering (stock phone),
if you go over limit 5GB for 4g LTE phone they will just throttle you.
Undetected tethering/ Custom ROM with removed att protection = only worry about going over the limit
Cheers,

I agree. The only thing Att or carriers look at is the amount of data being used periodically or the mac/ip address. Carriers have the ability to tell the difference from our phone using data or tethering, especially if data patterns changes.

Any one knows if rooting and flashing roms will mess the service on a AT&T Mega(SGH-I527) flashed on Straight Talk?. if not, what rom would be the best one?.
Thanks.
Hello!!!, anyone?????????
there are no roms on the at&t version yet
The phone is not flashed to straight talk, it is neither unlocked. Your phone is most likely an AT&T version and straight talk uses AT&T towers so the phone will automatically run their network, no flashing networks.
To answer your question rooting your phone will be like rooting a regular AT&T phone as you have nothing flashed on it.

correct.. and Straight Talk, Walmart Family, Net 10 etc sim cards....
so.. no flashing neccessary...
only different APN settings needed.
Hopefully your Mega will automatically find the correct APN settings of the particular sim card that you put in before boot up..
If it doesn't work for any particular sim, then you'll have to find the APN settings and create one that will work with any given sim
good luck.

It's really working.
don't go over your 2.5gb data cap.
I always thought I was invincible to the cap because I had a iPhone 4 and the speed always seemed the same. Well I got my galaxy mega on monday and by wednesday I was at 4.1gb. It was because I had downloaded Asphalt 8 and a few more games using the incredibly surprisingly fast straight talk 4g. Well then my internet completely disappeared. I know straight talk had nothing to do with this. But my apn settings deleted itself. I don't know why haha. But anyway I called straight talk saying I couldn't find the correct apn setting they helped me get the correct one and then I asked her if she thought if I used to much it would go over ( I didn't want to say I went over) She then said oh wail actually you already have seemed to exceed the cap. She said I should experience slower data. She then proceeded to tell me that once the 2.5 gb cap is passed that the internet slows down to 2g? I asked her if it was edge and she said no 2g.
I plan on switching to simple mobile within the next two days.
