[Q] CPU usage while playing music - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Recently I've been noticing an increment in battery usage while playing music, at first, I thought it was because I upgraded my earphones (from Sennheiser CX300 to Shure SE215), but it doesn't seem to be the case, as I still have the older ones and the problem remains.
So I just started monitoring, well, the CPU usage, I started Google Play Music (but the integrated Player on ICS also suffers from the same problem), and let CPU spy log 13~ minutes of music playing while the screen was locked and off. Things get worst with the screen on and actually using the phone, simple tasks as webpages loading makes the music skip badly.
Is this kind of CPU usage normal while you're just playing music?

Absolutely not..my cpu is in deep sleep often when playing music..see what processes are running..and what governor do u use?is ur phone rooted?

Well, my phone is rooted, and I have the governor set to conservative in CPU Master or whatever it's called.
About the running proceses, I don't think there is anything draining the battery all by itself, because it's only when playing music that I see suspicious CPU usage. Otherwise, my phone enters deep sleep mode when locked.

Wait..this values are when listenning to music and phone locked or u use it??
Then what kernel u have? Try change kernel.. i use KSSpeed kernel here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28510568

Well, just an update for my issue. I have deleted (deleted files, not formatted) every media file of my phone (had well over 1900 songs, bazillion of photos and well, some other stuff), and reorganized my songlist with just the basics songs (468 as of now), and no photos.
CPU consumption went down to this level:
It's no where near deep sleep levels, but I can feel the phone being more responsive, and well, those 15 min of music played drained 1% of my battery according to battery stats, compared to the 8-9% the previous 13 or so minuted drained.
I can only imagine the problem being related to the amount of files the mediaserver process had to index, a file being corrupted and was being checked continuously or something the likes of that.
I'll continue researching.

Phone won't be in deep sleep when it's playing music, but will be running in min CPU.

Bro, Seems like there is cell data been transferred when your phone is with screen off.
Awake (): 5 h 43 m 57 s (20637 s) Ratio: 94.5%
Screen On (): 1 h 12 m 49 s (4369 s) Ratio: 20.0%
This should ideally be equal, if you are not listening to music or downloading something with your screen off.
Do the following :
1. Remove the apps Social Hub with titanium backup
2. Uncheck Settings > Wifi Network > Mobile networks > USe packet data
3.Uncheck Location and security > a. USe wireless networks b. USe GPS satellites
and see if you are still getting the battery drain.
4. Uncheck Accounts ans sync > a.Background data b. Auto Sync
5. Goto market settings uncheck Google Admobile ads
Check if you are still getting the battery drains.
Hope this helps!

Just wipe cache and Dalvik cache from recovery and check if you are still having drain! If not try removing all the recently installed apps and check again.I believe one of the apps is trying to sync and keeping the phone awake.
Can i do that without a root?
Is there any chance it could be a hardware issue?

is it by any chance the new facebook app (looks more like the real facebook now?) I read quite many posts in regards to the partial wakelocks and the new facebook was one of them. The updated version is running a service that never lets the phone go to deep sleep. Search market for CPUspy (free) and it will show you what states your phone goes into for how long. Reset the stats before you go to sleep and wait overnight. Your phone should be around 90% or more in deep-sleep mode. If not, something does not let it go to deep sleep. I had the same problem, I'm currently running my phone for 1d6hrs with 50% of battery life still on it. I did a test and what I think based on BBS and CPUspy it was either the facebook app or SetCPU. During the night the phone was awake almost all the time along with the screen (even tho I was sleeping!). Another thing I noticed is that you have quite a high count on AlarmManager wakelock - that is a service used by many apps and that actually does not tell much unless you connect your phone to PC and extract the data from alarms. don't get confused, this is not your Alarm Clock, it's just a service that wakes up your phone at a scheduled time to check for updates. To check how long is the phone awake and difference after you've done some troubleshooting is under menu > more. It will show nice graphs.
In my case, my phone is rooted, running Criskelo v38, Siyah Kernel 2.6.7.. I uninstalled all app killers, stopped using FB app, switched off automated updates (checking if there are any updates from Market) and stopped using setCPU because Siyah 2.6.7 implemented new ondemand governor which merged ondemandX with lulzactive (not sure about the second governor now). Therefore all other governors became redundant. It sorted my problem with battery drain. Hope this helps a bit.
-EDIT-:
Sorry, Just noticed you already have CPUspy. Can you please submit a screenshot of the stats it's showing?
Btw i have the original battery with the original capacity of 1600 mAh

[Q] Possible DeepSleep issue on .587?

I seem to have an issue with deep-sleep mode not kicking in, I'm on .587 and rooted with locked bootloader, i never had this problem in .431 with the exact same setup (same apps, same app settings) its killing my battery normally I would have got at least 24 hours now I'm lucky if I get 8 hours. its the first time I've ever updated using Sony PC Companion I normally would have just used the repair function for a fresh install but I didn't want to have to install all my apps again.
I found this post by Pandemic - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518825 I know its for the ICS Beta (no harm in trying...) but the line "persist.rildenabled" doesnt appear in my build.prop at all.
Any ideas on how I can fix this? I want to avoid reinstall/repair the phone if I can, but I fear that may be my only option.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Install betterBatteryStats, let your phone run over the night and post the log. Or even you can check it up yourself.
Btw, did you try spend the night without turning off wifi?
I turn my WiFi off when I'm at work, them turn it on when I get home, I leave it on over night, I've install betterbatterystats as well as following pandemics suggestion, I'll use my phone as I normally would today and post the stats when I get home.
I noticed Xperia gallery was running for an awfully long time, not sure if that could be causing the problem but I've removed it from my phone all together, to see if it was causing the issue, tinne will tell I suppose.

Seems you found your solution.
A good alternative to Xperia gallery is quickpic. Maybe you should give it a try.

1 day 5 hours and I'm at 37% battery left, so it must have been the Xperia gallery, using quickpic as motorazrv3 suggested, works awesome thank I was using justpictures before, quickpic is faster.
Thanks to everyone for their help!

did you try using xperia gallery again, but with clean install, meaning, wipe data and cache of xperia gallery?
Do you have a lot of pictures? It might be scanning your sd card every time. Is the process 'Mediaserver' using a lot of juice?
I wouldn't say alot of pictures around the 100ish mark, but it was always pulling up the album art for my music collection, it wasn't causing any issue with the deepsleep mode untill the .587 update, I was using justpicture before so I was always just hiding that folder, quickpic seems to be doing the job as well, I wanted to avoid doing a fresh install, so far its doing fine. I plan to do a fresh install if I encounter any other issues.

[Hint/Tip]Best way to save battery

Disclaimer; This does not damage your phone at all or fry/mess up your cpu. On the contrary, it helps it by not running at full capacity all the time resulting in less stress and increased battery.
All credits goes to SuperAce609. I only share with you because this helps a lot. Original Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447938
This method works universally for any Android phone you're using. But you'll need ROOT for Set CPU.
IMPORTANT: The newer versions of SetCPU might prevent your phone from entering deep sleep. Download version 2.24 from the following link which is the one with no problems and completely works 100%.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
The Ace sucks in battery life. We all know that. And on 3G? Don't even mention it. But here's a fix, ever tried Under clocking instead of Over clocking?
Someone brought it up on a thread a couple of days ago and I have to spread the word, that works wonders. Got my Ace running on 245 min and 806 max and a different Screen Off profile. And now from the morning till 6PM in the afternoon, its just 61% AND recorded a 7 minute video/took pictures.
Battery was the only issue I had with my Ace. But now that its fixed, I love it
When screen is on:
MAX 806
MIN 245
Ondemand governor (This governor bumps up to max when needed but spends most time on the min freq. Best battery saver.)
When screen is off:
MAX 320
MIN 122
This way, you have a beast quick phone when you're using it, and the best battery saver when you're not!
This is what CPU spy should look like when you're done:

}
NOTE: Turn off Autosync from the settings. It's only used to sync your gmail and contacts and such. You can manually sync when you add a new contact and since I don't use gmail, I refresh manually whenever I do. 3G is the worst battery killer so this will help a lot.
SetCPU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
Specific instructions for those that can't get it to work!:
On SetCPU:
Click Add profile
Where it says Profile, select it and tap "Screen Off"
Set the frequencies you want in use while screen is off (If you want just one frecuency, put both sliders on the same number)
Set priority (in case you have other profiles, otherwise don't bother)
Select governor (Won't really matter since cpu is gonna be running at 1 frecuency)
Tap save
Go back to Profiles tab at the top, then tap Enable at the top left to make the profiles work.
For a list of most governors detailed; check out this thread! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242323
To check if its all working, install CPU spy from the market:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5idmFsb3Nlay5jcHVzcHkiXQ..
Battery Calibration
1. Turn your phone off
2. Leave charging over night
3. Turn it on
4. Leave it charging for half an hour
5. Download this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&feature=search_result
6. Open it and press calibrate battery
7. Discharge your phone down to 0% during the day
8. Charge back up to 100% NON-STOP.
This is to make sure you're using your battery at 100%. Only do this after you flash a new rom.
The worst battery killer is 3G itself. No matter how much you try to optimize battery and underclock, if you have 3G on, you're gonna have a bad time. MAKE SURE Autosync is disabled.
Thanks to QNBT for the AutoSync off and new profile settings hint!

V6 Supercharger values for Xperia U

Ah, so V6 supercharge script isn't working for Xperia U or say any phone with 512 mb ram. Well, we have always concentrated on freeing RAM memory than actually using it. Because we think the more free RAM we have, the more Apps we can use at the same time. But guys that's not how Android works. You should let your phone use all the RAM memory it has. By limiting it, you're only telling your phone to keep a certain amount of memory "free" all the time and android does its job well by doing it. So if you tell your phone to keep 125 mb free it will keep it and kill other apps for it, even the launcher . That's unused space. And yeah now you will think that when apps are loaded on ram they are active and using CPU time, NO! They are paused because you're not using them. Android automatically excludes the apps which have not recently been used from the RAM as soon as you load an App which was not loaded earlier.
Now let's talk about the values. I've kept 12,18,25,40,45,50 by using the 10th option from the V6 script.
Launcher rarely redraws. (Actually not yet happened with me )
No running apps are restarting.
services.jar not patched. Only using OOM settings. No extra kernel settings either. 75% charged
I seriously recommend not patching services.jar, just set these values or you can set your values to see the difference in performance.
That's all for now. Enjoy!
Only 13 mb RAM memory is free. I know the image isn't that clear.

Few bugs are solved now.
Guys, there were a few bugs but now I've overcome them. They're under testing. Soon i'll release them. I guarantee you that by applying my settings, the battery percent will take few minutes to drop. Before it used to take a minute to drop 2-3%. Now 1% will take more than that.

I haven't tried it on JB tho. BTW I'm using Greenify to hibernate apps. But still i faced redraws. So I put values like very low. 8,12,22,30,35,40 current values and i'm testing this. Yday I patched services.jar and so far it's working fine. Until i'm pretty sure about it I'm not recommending patching it.

Excesive battery drain on Existenz 3.5 due to... whatsapp?

My Z2's battery is draining really, REALLY fast. In a normal day I only use it to check whatsapp sometimes and mostly to hear some music.
I have Existenz 3.5 installed on my phone and I thought it might be rom related issue so I clean install a couple of times and nothing happened. Then, I checked on the battery stats and saw that the Whatsapp was the app that was consuming the most amount of battery (30%) then the Google Play Music (around 9%) and so on... So I decided to greenify Whatsapp... Still the same thing.
While all this happened I should say that auto sync was disabled, I was using 2G, the minimun brightness and barely turn my screen on.
After all this happened I decided to put the phone into Android's battery saving mode, still nothing happened. I don't now what to do, I also already calibrated my battery.
Is this soft-hard ware related problem? What should I do?
P.S.
I'll post the screen capture as soon as my phone wakes off it's dream.
How old is your phone?

Sound like the mobile radio active bug. Go to Settings -> Power Management -> Battery Usage and have a look at whatsapp. Does it look like my image below (note mobile radio active for hours)? If so, it's the mobile radio active bug and it's an android bug. You'll need to kill whatsapp or toggle mobile data on and off.

I bought my phone in February so I guess it's not that old. I already froze WhatsApp on Greenify.
Yes, the bat stats look like that, radio usage is waaaaaay big. But that workaround haven't helped me since I've been toggling it a couple of times per day (I go to college then to my home)
Something weird is that yesterday when I was at work sometimes I started to feel the heat on my leg and then I take out my phone and put it on my face, so I can now the temp better, and it was hot. I don't like that because I'm only listening music, c'mon
Thanks for the help.

If there's a bad batch of Z2s, could you tell me the name so I can compare it to mine?

There's a Xposed module that may fix the problem for some people, you could try that.
Or turn mobile data off when you're not using it. And greenify doesn't kill an app or helping this issue at all it needs to be forced stopped.
Finally the heat could be related to this issue. The problem is that the phone keeps powering the antenna when it shouldn't be.

I too had that problem. Try charging it too full and using battery callibrator callibrate it. Do a complete charge. U'll face severe drain after the first cycle of callibration. Then you'll get good battery life
