#define NOOB_ALERT ON
After months of dealing with out of memory issues I finally broke down and rooted/reflashed my Optimus V. Tried the Bobzhome build but kept having issues. Finally found MiRaGe-CM7.2-IHOhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703152 and love it!
A few strange things...
a. I could only see the limited set of default ringtones so I used one of them (Simple Beep 01) for the incoming call ringer. After uploading a whole bunch of music files I tried changing the ringer to one of the MP3 files. Once I set the ringer (Settings -> Sounds -> Incoming Calls / Phone Ringtone) to an MP3 file it shows up in the list of ringers (using the default Android System file explorer). But incoming calls stubbornly continue to use the old ringer.
b. This is probably nothing to do with the specific mod...how does one shut off the Music App without using a Force Stop? I got into the car this morning and the last song that I was listening to when I stopped the car last night automatically resumed. (I have Bluetooth Audio synced). This is a nice feature but I would like to know how to turn it off.

Currently running the most recent energy rom. My ringtones only play for like 2 seconds then stop, then repeats when someone is calling. I know it cant be the mp3 file itself because it fully plays in my media player. Anything I can do to fix this? Thanks.
Bump
I have the same problem with an SMS alert that is about 6 seconds long. Have tried putting the MP3 in phone memory and on storage card. Problem occurs on various ROMs (COM2, COM3 etc). Goes away for a short while after a soft reset.
Must admit, I haven't tried changing the file type to .wav or .wma to see if that helps yet.
I just solved it. I went over to "ring type" in the sound and display menu...it said "ring type: Currently set to: "Other". I changed mine to Ring and vibrate, and that fixed it.
Ok mysteriously I've lost my audible touch sound.
Things I've tried.
Deselect then reselect Audible selection .
Same for touch tones.
Then an old fashion reboot.
Is repairing my phone using Samsung PC Companion my only choice for fixing this issue?
In Astro
/system/media/audio/ui
I see all the sound files. Problem is they're not "sounding" .
If "you" look there and see them, does yours have an "r" at the end of the shaded information line for each sound file ?
In 2.1, audible selection sound is considered by the system as multimedia sound.
Play a video or a song and use the volume keys to increase the sound.
Then, you should be able to hear audible selection sound too.
Nope.. Didn't work.
If I go thru Astro, I can click the sounds and hear them one at a time.
FIxed with help from RoseRed on AndroidForums

So I'd set the sound profile to vibrate while I did some late night app installs and noticed that during installation one of the applications made a click. Thinking it odd, I set the sound profile to silent (the icon even showed the note with the line through it) and went to bed.
Next thing I know, my alarm is chiming as normal, waking me up-- the icon still shows silent, the settings / sound menu still shows me in silent profile. I do not have any override set, so what gives?
I shut the phone off to get some quiet for the time being (I've got a few alarms programmed and don't want them going off right now)
The only thing I can think of is that I installed a bunch of applications last night and something either overrode or crashed the sound application-- how would I verify? Would my logs be intact for viewing if connected via USB to a PC given that I powered off the phone?

I have a LG Optimus T509 and I have flashed it with CM7
Mod Version: CyanogenMod-7.1.0+RC1-Thunderg-KANG
Kernel: 2.6.32.42-franco.kernel.v18
Suddenly I am facing a weird issue with my ring tones, I set my ringtone to "Cassiopeia" originally. Since yesterday, even if i try to change my ringtone in the sound application it plays the sound "Club Cubano" when i select any of the ringtones in the phone. Same track over and over and over again.
I tried changing the ringtone from the profiles and there too the same issue. Interestingly, the phone doesnt ring to "Club Cubano" which it plays while testing the ring tones from sound setting. It plays something else.
Is there a fix for this / Is this a known issue?
I have similar problem with my P500. Not sure when it started, already a while ago, didn't have time to deal with that earlier.
Mod Version: CyanogenMod-7.1.0-Thunderg-KANG

I noticed that phone wasn't playing the ringtone (a mp3 file in the Music folder on SD card) it should. Ringotne in the Sound settings seemed correct. When I tried to change it to anything else it still played the same song.
Another weird thing is that if caller hang up before I pick up the phone ringing music stops and another track starts playing as if music player continues playing the song which was interrrupted. It stops when I press anything on the screen (if locked have to unlock first).
I tried renaming those to music files and then I got some generic rigtone. So for now I renamed the second music file and sticking with the unchangeable ringtone. Fortunately the song is OK, but still the issue is damn annoying...
Any ideas how to fix this?
Hey together. I'm a noob *duck* - but I did quite some search on google and on these forums before posting, and I'm not a very stupid noob.
Today I got the situation that no audio is audible any longer from my browser, games, audio apps, or from an audio player (all of them previously worked). This is the case for headphone and also the built in speaker. The problem occurred very likely after using skype. I also still have audio in phone calls and also I still have sound for ringtones and other alarms. Handset functioms all still work fine.
The first obvious thing I did was checking volume settings in the android settings. There I moved all sliders - the one responsible for regular audio did not give me any feedback. If I use the volume buttons on the phone while I'm on my home screen I get audible feedback - but that doesn't influence my problem.
Funnily the sound in skype still works. More funnily: during skype calls the audio from my browser or the audio player is also audible (I tried this just out of couriousity as I suspected Skype to be the cause of my problem. Et voila - I got sound from a TV News page and also from the Walkman app while the call on skype was still running. As soon as the call in Skype ended the audio from browser and adio player got muted again.
I also tried to kill skype during a call in order to kill it before it can again mute the audio - No luck. as soon as the skype app is killed also the audio from audio player and Browser vanishes.
I also tried some audio apps - all have the same issue of having no sound.
I then tried different apps which control volumes - without any luck. So at the moment I don't have audio, except during skype calls.
I guess that skype has either access to some hardware settings which aren't used usually (I hated skype for things like this as long as it had existed) - or I'm missing something very obvious. Or something else. Does anybody of the developers here know about linux settings I could modify? (is there something like alsamixer which is only possible to access via jni or similar?)
// Edit:
Just found out that toggling airplane mode ON I have sound for media (audio player, browser). (but also lose the ability to use my cellphone and network). As soon as I switch back to airplainmode OFF also audio is muted again. And for sure - I also tried rebooting in different states of my phone quite often without any difference.
// Edit 2:
looks like I found a workaround but no permanent solution - I installed an app SoundAbout (free app) recommended for similar problems in an other thread: 89996-galaxy-s3-media-volume-stuck-mute.html (I have now put output permanently to "headphones" for media sounds. However as soon as this setting is reset to the default (let app decide) it is muted again when airplane mod is set to off - looks like an other app resets it? (could not find any app obviously doing this though as I stopped the usual suspects)
I still suspect Skype as the original reason for this problem as I just recently had it updated when the problem appeard and it also messes with this kind of stuff during usage (and I don't really use other apps dealing with audio except of browser, music player which weren't updated for a long time).
Maybe also of concern:
It's an sony xperia p, running Android 4.0.3 and it is currently rooted.
