Hello,
I hope anyone could help me, since I am beginner when it comes to Atrix and Andoid, but let´s go:
I have bought a At&t Motorola Atrix 4G, Android 2.3.6, system version:4.5.141 mb860.att.en.us
Once I arrived to Brazil, inserted my SIMnseveral contacts, everything ok... but, when I receive a call, the calling number shows up on the display, but not the name of the inserted contact. So, it is showed the number, but not the name of the registered contact. The phone is not matching the calling number with my contacts.
I have already created a motoblur acount, restored the phone to factory settings a several times, but nothing seems to solve the problem.
Altough the phone is now in Brazil, its IMEI continues linked to At&t and my carrier says that this has nothing to do with this problem.
My carrier in Brazil is "Oi".
I hope someone could help me here.
Thanks in advance!
Have you tried saving the number as it appears on caller ID? I've had this happen with text messages and it's due to the way the carrier sends out the caller id; for example, instead of (123) 555-5555, the network pushes it out as +1235555555.
Caller ID is an carrier service and in this case is irrelevant. Your carrier is right in saying this has nothing to do with them. The phone shows up names associated with phone numbers based on your local phonebook only.
Your phone being "tied" to AT&T is irrelevant too, you're out of their reach now so they can't do anything even if they wanted to.
I should know, I'm happily using an AT&T device even though I'm halfway across the world.
What kind of format are you using for the phone numbers in your contacts? I'd recommend you use the standard international format, even if most of them are numbers local to your country. Standard international numbers are of format +<country code><area code><number>. So for my country it would be for example +3851xxxxxxx. So try changing some number in your contacts to that and then tell them to call you and see if it helps.
That's very strange, because I've used the At&T rom on my brazilian atriz without any issue whatsoever.
What could fix your issue is what our buddies said above: try setting the contacts with the International number format (+55 21 9999-9999). All of my contacts are like that on my phone and caller ID has worked fine across multiple ROMs.

Same thing, brazilian atrix, AT&T rom.
I keep all my contacts in the following format: '011 9999-9999' and it's worked with pretty much every ROM I've tried.

I used the followin formart: 021 xxx-xxx and worked. I was using "0xx21 xxx-xxxx" format and it was not working, despite my others "dumbphones".

I'm running an unlocked and rooted Atrix on Fido in Canada and have noticed a peculiar problem. Whenever a call is made to me from my landline at home, the Caller ID displays "Pay Phone" instead of the contact associated with that number. This does not happen with my wifes iPhone or my old HTC Desire HD. Other landline numbers show up properly, but this (and one other number) keep showing up as "Pay Phone". I've tried removing the number from the associated contact, but it keeps showing up as "Pay Phone".
Anyone else seen this with their Atrix? Any helpful suggestions?
Cause Determined: See this post for more details:

Installed TrueCaller on my Atrix - this does report the number correctly but the font is pretty small and not too readable.
It seems like the number is being transmitted, but the stock caller ID app has a bug that causes it to display "Pay Phone". Looking around on the web shows it may be a Rogers/Fido network - Stock caller ID app issue that may be the root of the problem.
If anyone is on the Fido/Rogers network, are you seeing this sort of behaviour on your Atrix?
I'll be able to let you know later in the week. I should have mine on Rogers by mid-week.

Thanks for using TrueCaller!

This happened to me earlier today. I'm on Rogers.
Caller called from north on Mississauga road - a business (I was expecting it). Big office, many trunks in the building. I've never had it display as PAY PHONE before though today it did.
This isn't happening from all calls, just this one so far.
I think the Motorola support folks have found the root of the problem. It looks like there is a bug in the Atrix Dialer app that makes it behave incorrectly and display "Pay Phone" without the number if you have Caller ID with Name Display enabled with your carrier.
Rogers(and Fido) is the only North American carrier (I think) that has the option to give you the Name Display along with Caller ID. The fix for now is to get Rogers/Fido to enable Basic Caller ID (without Name Display) and then the numbers will start showing up. It sucks to lose Name Display and I hope the Motorola development team will have a fix for it at some point.
BTW, this will affect any carrier worldwide that has the Name Display option with Caller ID.
FYI - here's a thread I've had going on the Motorola Support forums.

Yes, I found it happened only on certain numbers, not on all.
How did you get True Caller - did you sideload it? I can't get it from the market

TrueCaller is available from the market. The only issue with it is that the Caller ID number is displayed only for 1-2 rings. Unless I am waiting for it, I'm not fast enough to see the number with TrueCaller until the call ends.
If the caller ID problem really annoys you (like it did me), you should ask Rogers to remove the Name Display option from your Caller ID.
i got the same problem, grrrrrrr
any way of getting the dialer from another build of android?
this sucks, i hate that all calls are as Pay Phone

But won't this remove ALL name display? I only get the caller ID issue for some numbers but not all.

name display is a feature that you can add or remove from the basic caller id, it shows up the names of people calling who are not on your contact list. if you ask for it remove and someone that is not on your contacts calls you then you will only see the number. just make sure that you still have caller id without name display.

Anyone tested to see if the new firmware fixes the issue?

the update wont fix this as its not a problem with bell and at&t atrix. doubt they are ever going to do anything about this unless the phone comes to a carrier with name display.
Maybe, but it would be nice to get a confirmation from a rogers customer

Well the Atrix will be released in Europe soon, so maybe that version will have the name display option like us What do you think? lol
Hello,
Just got my HTC Ultimate (Brazil's for Titan) and I'm experiencing some problems while dialing and returning calls...
For the details below I'll use a number (9999-8888) from Brazil (country code 55), with 31 as area code.
I store my numbers in international format (+55 31 9999-8888, for the number above) and Vivo (my mobile carrier) sends incoming calls identified as 03199998888 (same number).
I can't call none of them, as I need to dial (according to Brazil's standards) a number in the following format:
0 15 31 9999-8888
The leading ZERO identifies a long distance call, the following "15" tells them to use a especific long distance provider, 31 is the area code and the rest is the number.
In android I've used several apps to do this "translation" in real time, while calling, like "Operadora DDD", "Profiler" or Right Number...
Is there anything like this in Windows Phone 7?
I've checked the "International calling assist" thing too...
I believe it's good to match incoming calls with different number patterns from my contacts.
In fact, no matter where it's on or off, my phone matches 03199998888 for "+55 31 9999-8888", so I believe it would deal with more strange patterns...
While receive a call and match a contact is OK, calling is still a challenge...
Anyone with tips?
Hi, rgmarques. I'm from Brazil too. I have the same problem. Send email to [email protected].
Thanks
Antonio Marques
Hi guys, i'm a former owned of a HD7 and now I own a Ultimate too.
All my contacts use the pattern: +5511XXXXXXXX, for São Paulo as an example. All working now.
The fallowing patterns also works: 011XXXXXXXX, 0YY11XXXXXXXXX
As an example, if you use a TIM SIM, the match option when someone calls you will not work, at least never worked on any imported device I own previously. This is because when your recieve a local call, TIM does no put the DDD before the number! This is done nice by Vivo.
Please, don't keep information on your email, share it with forum. Since the Titan is a brand new device here in Brazil, more people will come to find solutions for their problems.

Try this: Go to Settings and then choose SIM application.
Click on "show application", click on "Facilidades" and then "Vivo DDD". Activate it.
Give feedback please.

Well, seems like my SIM card doesn't have a "facilidades" option...
Here in minas Gerais, we've moved from Telemig Celular to Vivo 1,5 years ago and some stuff hasn't changed completely yet... SIM apps seems to be the case...
I've seen different behaviors in incoming calls matching on my Motorola Milestone, depending on the ROM I used. Never tried different carriers, as it was never an option. But I believe they might send different numbers as originator of the call, resulting in different results.
But my problem relates to originating a call...
Vivo won't let me call +5511XXXXYYYY... I need to call 01511XXXXYYYY...
Well, while no alternative solutions come up, I've changed my contact numbers to match our (Brazilian) pattern... Regular expressions made this reasonable while nothing else shows up... If anyone needs any specific help with the process, just let me know...
I'll keep looking and will report here if i find anything useful...
Thanks.

Call VIVO and ask them to enable this for you. Or, if your have an old Nokia, try you SIM on it and see if the option appears there for you.
But can be different SIMs for each State.
When you DIAL without the DDD Operator, nor the AREA, does it completes the call? If not, this is the problem and this service from VIVO will 'add' the DDD Operator when you do a long distance call.

Hi Cris,
I have a Titan with Tim, and I save the contacts with 04121XXXX-XXXX, so when I receive a call from my contacts I don't see the contact's photo or name, only the tel number XXXX-XXXX without area code. But when I save the number like XXXX-XXXX without area code and Tim code, the photo appears on screen.
I had a Htc Diamond with Tim and photos appears well.

Well,
I used to save my contacts in the international format, +55 31 9999-8888.
With that, I'll need a transformation instead of a simple addition of the carrier code...
If I call 03199998888, the call completes when it's a local one. If it's a true long distance call, it will fail, requiring me to explicitly inform the carrier code.
Well, I will try to check if Vivo has any hint for me.
I'll call them tomorrow.
Thanks again.
Hello, all!
Here is the problem... I was traveling abroad with my SGS2 and was using domestic SIM that I bought locally. Once I received call from local number that my phone detected not in international format (like 891XXXXX). I have added this number into my contacts using full international format (+791XXXX) and everything was fine as long as I stayed abroad. Now I got back home and tried to SMS this number from my contacts.
Unfortunately, even in contacts the number is in international format, Messaging application for some reason every time takes the old one (891XXXXX).
I have tried delete messaging thread and create new thread from number stored in contacts, but this bastard still takes old number (stored somewhere I don't know where).
Has anybody got such problem? Is there any solutions available?
Regards,
Dima
I have found another thread describing exactly the same problem. So far, it's unknown how to deal with that.
Obviously if you want to txt the international number from your home country it has to be recognized in international format so what you could do is delete the number from your phone and rewrite it in international format to your sim card then copy it to your phone.I imagine now that you are back home you have a local sim card again but if you havnt changed it then check that you dont have the old number on it.
Hi,
I recently helped a colleague purchase a Galaxy SIII phone here in China, Guangzhou and made sure I checked the phone over completely before I purchased it.
I've done a search on the forums and check out anything that may be similar, but to no avail.
The problem is:
The phone will not receive any text messages, or at least they don't go through to the messaging app.
Text messages were being received normally for around a week
I disabled a bunch of pre-installed Chinese crap that is unfortunately not un-installable as it's baked into the ROM
It happened once, so I factory reset it, and then tested it. The text messages worked fine
I then disabled the Chinese stuff once again and installed Skype. Just to be sure, I sent more test text messages, and they were all received fine.
Around one week later, here we are, she says that text messages are not being received again.
All other functions of the phone are working. Internet / Edge network, sending texts, Play store, everything. Just not the receiving of texts!
I'm fairly confused as to this behaviour, particularly as it seems the text messages are working for a time limited period.
I had some inklings of what it could be:
- The SIII takes a micro-sim, the shop "manually" chopped the SIM using a cutter. Could this have damaged the SIM and caused this behaviour?
- The phone itself is faulty
- Something is up with the China Mobile settings / network and she needs to call them.
What would be your diagnosis, ideas, solutions XDA'ers?
Further information of any kind is, of course, available on request.
**** My ideas for a fix ****
Root the bastard and get a standard UK ROM on the phone to see if it works. However, I have some concerns. Years ago, when I bought my first HTC desire, when I rooted and put a UK ROM on it, I discovered that my phone was an imported Thai version of the phone and almost bricked it into a reboot loop as the phone didn't like a different regions ROM being loaded on.
I had to go through a convoluted process of making a specially edited SD-card to fool the phone into accepting different ROMS. Is this the case with the Galaxy SIII or have times moved on to more sophisticated means?
Thanks.
GJO
Have you try other messaging apps like Hancent SMS or Go SMS to confirm that msg service is not working?
Or maybe the CSC is causing the problem?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Open the stock messaging app. In its menu go to settings. Check that there is a number recorded under message centre. If not use Google to find the number for the carrier you are with and enter it.
I'm on an unrooted phone with a stock Rom and twice messaging has stopped working. The cause was that this number had spontaneously disappeared.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Ok, I've tried:
- alternative messaging apps, and they're not picking it up either.
- the message centre number.
When you say CSC? You mean the carrier code? It was bought in China and fitted with a Chinese ROM, but I'll look at the ROM settings and see what it is.
Thanks.
U dial *#1234# then you can see your csc
CSC – (Consumer Software Customization) Refers to the specific country or carriers for that said firmware is being build.
This where it contains the default settings of each specific geographical region, carrier network providers and network data connections.

I am having this problem. It was all working fine then suddenly it stopped. I don't know what could be the cause but I fooled around with the settings, deleted old text messages and then suddenly I received dozens of text messages.
It's like my phone isn't trying to receive any text messages. It can send text messages out but it won't receive any.
I am using Omega 31.1.
Can someone help me out please?

I had the same issue,
I changed the Network options from gsm only to "Auto" mode, and apparently it worked for me.
hey guys,
when i logged in to my google account, my contacts arrived without any problem. however, when someone calls me, i don't see his name on the screen even though his number is saved in my contact!!!!
i tried formatting my device many times, but this problem kicks in.
every time someone calls, i get his number only (unknown caller). it is like i did not save the number at all!!!
how to fix this? can i do something on the device itself? or i can even use an app to fix this issue?
thanks
What country are you in? and what version of android? Try adding the country code to your contacts. I had the same problem with my consumer cellular 4.3.
