Try to use dsc 1.0 first. Make sure to do factory reset and wipe everything. And setcpu below 700mhz..
It have been confirmed skype working flawlessly to me..

A workaround which automates everything for me is using 'setcpu' profile feature. Enable profile and add a profile with condition 'app' as skype and setting cup 245-768, conservative governor. It automatically underclocks cpu as soon as you open skype.
One more must do is to just make one outgoing call after every restart. It makes the mic setup correctly for outgoing voice.
Hope it helps!

this workaround have been proven to work for 2.3.7 / cm7
so.. skype should work for everyone now..
by the way.. you just need to call someone that has toll free such as voice call to get your balance status... and then hang up... the mic then should initialized properly for the skype

Sipdroid was giving me strange hangs and forced closes on the stock dialer activity... I found it very strange. Since then I've been using Fringe as a SIP client... the quality is not the best but acceptable at the best. Still evaluating some more options... will post if anything works better

Thanks please do share if you find something better coz I've been facing hangs with sipdroid too with no option but to restart the phone...
Funny how such a basic smartphone feature is so tricky to setup...but that's android for you!! Gives you a geeky kind of satisfaction if you're able to get something running!! :-D

I found SipDroid not too good on X10, maybe because the 1.6?
fring is OK but not too clear. The other option is 3CX phone, it's clear but it drops voice. I tried on my home asterisk box but not pbxes.org, maybe TCP connection will make some different.
fring skype calls echoes like insane....
Got the same Problems .........
No SIP client is working on the X10! I tried many of them i.e. Sipdroid, Fringe, Nimbuzz, FritzApp and so on..........
The results are the same! No SIP client is working solid. I get force closed, phone crashes or just awesome bad voice quality....
I realy was thinking that this was caused by the 1.6 Firmware.
So 2.1 is out now and i try it again.
The Result: Still crashes and phone hang ups! SO WTF?
It wasnt about the 1.6 Firmware so what is wrong with the X10?
It looks like that there is no option to use any SIP Droid with it?
Is anybody out there who can confirm a running SIP client on a X10 with satisfying result?
I have never heard about and i realy want to use VOIP. There must be a way........
Actually Fring with 1.6 was only usable with the stock (wired) headphones. Using the phone's mic directly would cause really loud feedback and the people on the other end would complain about how loud of an environment I was in (despite being dead silent).
With 2.1, there is some delay or echo problems but at least the feedback is GONE so it IS at least somewhat usable.
Haven't tried any of the other VOIP apps yet but I can confirm that Fring was improved substantially!
Mh.........
So i was giving it another try.
I installed Fring on 2.1 and made a test call to my parents.
I was using 3G and called into Landline Number.
The result:
Fring is not useable.
The Voice was distorted and tinny.
The Echo was huge. My dialog partner got echoed back everything he says.
So realy not USEABLE and no improvements here.
It makes me realy sad.
On my N97 the VOIP was build in into the firmware! Was was working great. Such a shame again about that SE......
Had SIPDROID installed to setup forwards to my GV number using internet only.
Only problem is the echo back is terrible. I have heard it and it's noticable.
Anyone have a solution to get the echo down?
CM7-59 ROM - Built in SIP client - Not much else installed.
BAMP
CM7-61
Just for information is anyone else trying to use SIP only with PBXES and GV?
If you are, are you experiencing any problems?
I never noticed an echo when I used Sipdroid but I had all the gains set to medium. Have you tried using the built in SIP stack instead of Sipdroid?
Yes, yes I have. The problem seems to be that the echo is on the callers end. I have confirmed this with SIPDROID, CSIPSIMPLE, LinPhone and the built in SIP stack.
I have tried different compression techniques as well as different bitrates. I have also adjusted the in call audio speaker all the way down and it does not seem to matter.
What ROM is it that you are using?
Have you tried grooveip I use that on wifi and have not had any issues with echoing.

No I have not, I will check it out though. It's worth a shot.
[EDIT] For $5 they can keep it. If it works that would be one thing, if it doesn't then that is a different story.
Well there is a pirate copy of it you could use to test it. And then find out if you would wanna buy it. I did that and loved it and find it to be worth the money. The updates always add new things and fixs.

I've been running Alpha 3 of CM7 on my touchpad for the past few weeks. All in all I'm a fan and have been using it as my primary OS for the touchpad.
Getting GrooveIP to work would be the coup de grace for me as being able to take and place phone calls on it has been the one thing missing. Running Groove IP I can hear the other side for a second or two and then it just goes quiet. People on the other end say that can't hear anything from me.
Just curious if others have figured out a way around this (or if I've been an idiot). A search wasn't helpful.
No probs here
anything in particular with how you have it setup? are you using echo cancellation?
Figured out how to keep hearing audio from the other end.
Go to Settings --> Troubleshooting --> "Wifi Tablet", and make sure it's checked. Also make sure "Synchronize Voice" is checked.
still working on getting the mic to work
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/7576-call-text-on-touchpad-with-google-voice/
apparently the mic not working is a known issue still.
dj4enzik, were you able to find a fix to this?
Received a reply back from SNRB Labs
The fix would have to come from the CM rom. From the logs I looked at it looked like the audio driver wasn't working properly.
lame
Works fine on mine..Let me check and see how my setting s are and I will post back!!
You can make free calls with Google Voice, and a PBX server. It's really easy to install PBXinaflash on an older computer, or run it in a virtualized environment. Check out this tutorial here. For more reliability you can purchase a DID from voip.ms or Vitelity. For 4 dollars a month you can make as many outbound/inbound calls as you want -- voip.ms only. Vitelity is 4 dollars a month for unlimited inbound. I'm currently using a Vitelity DID for inbound calls, and a GV trunk to make outgoing calls for free. Media5-Phone works really well as a SIP client. I have found that the function built into Android does not work as well as some SIP applications. I really suggest building a PBX server over using a service such as Groove IP.

Anything special to report about your settings? I used the instructions described earlier to get audio working. I also tried changing the microphone setting to "standard mic", but it still isn't working.
OUTDATED: Tunnel voice has been fixed in the latest CM7 and CM9 nightlies.
Hope we can find better fix to this in future.
Using the CM7 version with makelegs Kang.
Pushed with Root Explorer (I'm at work and don't have a cable to use ADB).
Phone kept FCing so I:
1. Rebooted
2. Fixed permissions with Root Explorer
3. Rebooted again to recovery and wiped cache and dalvik
Seems to be working so far. I will report back in a few days.
The CM7 version is not working.
I have received several calls and the caller says I sound like I'm in a tunnel. If I mute and then unmute after answering the call, the problem immediately clears up. This leads me to believe that the hacked phone is not properly muting and unmuting.
I will try to reproduce it and get a logcat.
Logcat coming soon...

Me too bro... me too.
I think a commit from before, merging audio HAL fixes in, was supposed to fix it, but part of that got reverted because it broke some devices on some carriers.
Also, apparently, this problem happens on other devices as-well (I'm guessing just Aries devices)

If it doesn't have the mute/unmute fix, others will confirm and I'll clean compile a new one.
So everyone else, please post if this fixes your problem.

It doesn't seem to have the fix (or its not working) because if I manually mute then unmute after receiving a call the tunnel voice immediately goes away.

I'll clean compile CM7 with it and pull it and upload it tonight then.
Here are two logs. Both calls had the tunnel voice until I manually muted and unmuted.

Sorry they are so long. I started recording just before the call and ended recording after ending the call, but I wasn't sure what may be useful so I didn't filter anything out.
V2 is up (just a clean recompile), try that.
Is this useful for aokp if people face mute unmute issues

I'll try it out and report back. Thanks again!
Here are my findings:
I am running CM7.2.0-RC1-vibrantmtd-KANG-signed.02282012-2202
Using the stock phone:
For every call (25 of 25) I receive from my mother, she said I sound like I'm far away and in a tunnel.
If I manually mute and unmute, the "tunnel" voice immediately goes away.
Using the hacked v2 phone:
5 of 8 calls received from my mother were clear with no tunnel voice
3 of 8 calls received from my mother had the tunnel voice, but after I manually muted and unmuted, the "tunnel" voice immediately went away.
It seems this hacked phone helps, but does not fully solve the problem.
I will continue to run it for several more days to gather some data from other callers. I use my mother as a base because most calls I receive from her have the tunnel voice bug.

Hahaha. The fix is only in the CDMA portion of the handleCallKey function... (even in the original fix, so it wasn't just my fault! Even though I manually added the fix )
I'll recompile AGAIN with it also in GSM today and re-upload. Sorry 'bout that.

The apk may not be, because it's based on CM9, but you can use the source of the fix, but you need to put it in the GSM section aswell as the original fix only has it in CDMA.

Thanks, I'll let you know
Still not working.
I called my phone from my wife's phone many times and this is what I've experienced and learned:
1. The tunnel voice does not start until the caller speaks (e.g. after my CM7 phone receives a voice signal from the caller, the caller starts hearing a tunnel voice). When I called my phone and had my wife start talking everything was clear until I said something (I was on her phone), then the tunnel voice started.
2. If I manually mute and unmute my phone immediately after answering a call and before speaking, the entire call is clear, no tunnel voice.
Maybe the mute and unmute functions that Nelson used are incorrect or in the wrong location?

I reckon it's because mic doesn't work on 3rd party applications (Eg. Skype) only on cellular calls. Known bug.
