Time for a new tablet - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Had my HTC Flyer about 10 months and since the arrival of Honeycomb has not performed very well.
I dislike Honeycomb a lot as it has slowed down the tablet, removed the built in keys which I liked and Gingerbread was much more stable.
I'm in the process of saving up for a new tablet and will probably get one in a couple of months.
I'm thinking of a Google Nexus because of the price and spec but not sure yet.
..anyone got any suggestions as to what I should move on to?

I reckon 7" again, I like this size for gaming, browsing and everything else tabletty hehe. (is tabletty even a word?)
I've been looking at the google nexus and Samsung galaxy 2, I think the google is looking the best of the 2.

16gb on board is enough for me and I'm not bothered about the camera.
I've had a go on the Nexus and like it but it big enough step to warrant a purchase......ie after a month or 2 will I be thinking 'the flyer is just as good and I've wasted my money'?

I bought the View in January and initially loved it. It began to get really slow and buggy and I was bummed about not getting updated past HoneyComb, so I decided to get the Nexus 7 as well. I love it! I've had it about 2 weeks without any issues at all. It runs circles around the View. I haven't really been bummed about the lack of a sd card yet (I have a 50gb Box.net account so I can store all my titanium backup files there and get them when I'm connected to wifi). I honestly can't ever see myself preferring the View over this thing. My phone has a camera so I really don't need one on my tablet.
Anyways, take it for a spin and then just go with the device you prefer. There's nothing technically wrong with the View/Flyer, its just a bit older and slower.

I think I'm gonna do the same. The Flyer is dead in the water. It's best to move on now. It happens guys. This was probably the best tablet hardware at the time. Good camera, screen, internal memory etc. But the world has moved on. & so has Android & HTC. I still have a year left on my contract, but I don't mind swapping for a Nexus tablet. Will just try get some parts to refurbish the scratched & dinged bits, & pass it onto my nephew. Its still in good knick, even after my soapy water bucket incident

I'm gonna go for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Student Edition Bundle for $250,
has a micro-sd slot and includes a keyboard / dock and USB adapter in the box.

Or the Galaxy Note.

I read elsewhere that the Nexus 7 doesn't have haptic / vibrate feedback on the screen. Is this correct?

I'm debating between that, and the Galaxy tab 10.1 because it has the S-pen. I used the pen on my flyer a lot but with the 2.7 being shipped with a keyboard that's hard to pass up. And for a reasonable price too.
The only thing that steers me away is that 1ghz dual core processor.

Is there a 7 inch tab out there that is really so much better then flyer thats worth to change it? Looking at nexus i am loosing SD slot, 3g, pen, and posibilities for some stupid bugs.
Looking at Samsung Galaxy 2 7.0 looks nice, was holding it and fits heand better then flyer, nice boddy work but - is it really so much better then Flyer to pay 350€ for 3g version in Europe.
All just couse of ICS/JB? For me prolly more time must pass b4 ill switch. Still hope we can get some more fixes on ICS / JB roms we have until then GB stil works very nice for me.

Well I think it really just depends on what the user uses the tablet for. If you are still happy with your flyer, no quarrels, then why not just keep it? I would say that the dev scene is still pretty active, we have some pretty awesome people working on JB/ICS for us.
My flyer's screen is broken so I'm looking for a new tablet. I go to college and take a lot of notes so the Gtab 2.7 that comes with the keyboard is pretty ideal for me. That'd be much easier than lugging my laptop around everyday. You could even use a mouse with the USB adapter. Like I said, it all just depends on what you use your tablet for.

I just cut my losses for a nexus and 3 weeks in I have no regrets. It's fast as hell, and build quality is good imo. Don't have the screen lift issue, no issues other than occasional screen flicker which I hesitate to even call an issue and the fact people are making warranty claims over it makes me sick. It's very rate and is over in half a second, and software related from what I hear.
Unless you have to have the features your loosing like a rear camera, sd slot, mhl, and vibrate then it's worth it

Well I've finally got another tablet after much thinking and gone with the iPad 2.
Although I love Android, I wanted something completely different to dabble with, different size, different OS.
I liked the Flyer on Gingerbread, it was fairly fast but Honeycomb totally killed the tablet (thanks HTC for making me feel like I have spent a lot of money on a slow overpriced brick)
Other reasons for going to iPad2 :-
In my opinion there's not really any half decent 10" Android tablets about, the Samsung is cheep looking in my opinion, I don't like touchwiz and the speakers on the front look stupid.I don't want an Asus transformer because that also looks cheap and as for the keyboard dock - I've got a laptop.
Sorry if I've I missed out any other relevant contenders.
Anyway, I'm happy with my purchase, I use tablets for gaming and browsing so as card slot not a problem as I don't put music and videos on them.
The games are very fast.
I'll probably not be using the Flyer very much now (if at all) pity really because it was good before Honeycomb.
By the way, I'm still using Android on my Sensation XE so I'm not a complete traitor

I considered picking up an ipad but apple's insistence to limit true freedom and app compatibility holds me back. Stupid things bother me with Ios, like no way to set default browser, terrible YouTube app, no purchases through nook or kindle app, reformatting every music file, no native flash, apps like dropbox are useless, etc. Ios products try to force you to consume more from apple every step of the way, which is crazy considering how much I would pay to get the device.
Flyer

I did have my doubts with the iPad (less freedom etc) but I'm enjoying using it and its a pleasant change.
Maybe I'll go back to an Android tablet in a couple of years when something more worthy is on the market.
As for my phone, sticking with Android

Once the pen, you'll always look for that. Therefore the only best option is Samsung GN2 10,1 (N8000). But that's not 7" and indeed 10,1" and the res is 1280x800. Still far the best replacement.

I'll tell you what I'd highly recommend the Galaxy tab 2 7.0 to any flyer owner who didn't care about the pen but wasn't able to deal with the sacrifices on the nexus. It's a great tablet, it's fast, and has all the features, and Samsungs support has been awesome for it, not to mention cm10 development is well under way, and official jelly bean is due to drop any day for it.
The only thing you really loose with it is built in storage but it does have an sd slot.

Stil love mine flyer
So mine gf changed mobile operater and got Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 very cheap offer - so we decided to simply take it. Playing around with it onlly gain is it has ICS ower mine Flyer wich is stil on GB. I got to pick either to take SGT2 or keep Flyer. I am keeping mine flyer really . Why? Since i really see no advantages onlly in OS and i do loose some on camera storage pen,.. But it is indeed nice tab and soon to get OTA JB.
Edit:
and no coment on BATTERY life - its awfully compared to Flyer on GB.

Anyone thinking of returning their HTC Flyer for a Galaxy Tab 10.1?

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be out on 6/17/11 from the latest reports and will cost less then the HTC Flyer. I'm thinking about it but I like the 7" form factor of the Flyer and don't want to give that up.
Nope
I chose the Flyer for the form factor and the stylus interface. so nope. I will not be trading it in.

Absolutely! They are completely different devices/categories as you say, and cannot be meaningfully compared.
I am getting increasingly fed up with lame 'comparisons' and reviews between 7 inch and 8.9/10.1 inch tablets.
I use my 7 inch tabs (flyer and SGT) for their portabily, I will never wear pants with pockets big enough for a 10 inch tablet. But at home on the couch a 10 incher is better (LOL) so I'll get one later this year for home use, when I decide which one is best.
But for me the 7 inch form factor will always get more use.

Yep, unless you are using your tablet to sit on the coach and surf, a 10.1 inch tablet is pretty much useless. I mean, how do you carry it around? I can put the Flyer in my coat pocket. I still haven't figured out how people hold these huge heavy tablets in one hand as they read or navigate.
7 inches in perfect size for a tablet for those on the go.
P.S., I'll put my 1.5 Ghz single core up against a 1 Ghz dual core speedwise surfing the web any time any day. The whole dual core thing is mostly hype.
My problem with the flyer is that it is supposed to be updated to honeycomb but has the buttons that will be useless when honeycomb launches. Right now sense is great but apps made for cellphones looks stupid. I don't see myself walking around writing on any tablet. Thats what a cellphone is for. The flyer sits right in a niche that will be dominated by 8 inch tablets.
8 inches is the prefered size, ask any lady..

Problem is after using my flyer, I can't stand to use my Droid x for anything besides phone calls. The screen is just too small. It will also be very dificult to get an 8" tablet in a pants pocket
I'm a owner and advance user of HTC Flyer and iPad, I went and buy the HTCF because it was an HTC product (they never let me down) . The main use of my tablets are for work, but I'll not trade the flyer because any Tablet will lack the same thing that I miss today, "presentation tools", iPad is almost perfect in that área but it can't shows hiperlink so Ive managed to do something else with the splashtop remote software.
So I guess that maybe I would trade for a Tablet that comes with a software from Microsoft, and thats only because I use Msft software for job.

I am not saying the flyer is not great because its awesome. I still think it will find it hard to find itself into peoples homes. I am willing to bet that it runs its course before it gets honeycomb.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be the same price as the Flyer, at least here in the US. $499.99 for the 16 GB.

I debated about this a bit too. But I decided on the Flyer, since I love HTC products (on my 3rd HTC phone), and like Sense. But I have to admit, many of the Honeycomb features look pretty cool. As already noted, form factor is obviously a key difference, and it depends on how you value portability versus screen real estate.
HTC FLyer FTW
Ok people. I daftly started another very similar thread on the Flyer vs the GT. So I will forget that one as this is established.
This is my situation - my misses phone contract is up and the new deal she is looking at has either a GT 7inch thrown in with it or the Flyer. She has very kindly said that I can have the tab off the deal. So I'm in a nice position of being able to choose, for FREE! Which one then people? Can either of them HDMI mirror? Or at least HDMI video playback?

I am debating the tab 10 or the flyer. I had the tab 7 loved it because it was very portable and carried it with me everywhere . But it crashed often and it started to remind me of wm. Ive tried honey comb and i love it. Fast smooth and stable. So now I'm confused keep it portable or have to carry a bag around? my main use of a tab is surfing web, GPS, games, kindle ECT.
Also another reason I'm debating is the price on the flyer is too high for a 7". Its priced on a 10" price range. So I feel if I'm paying that price I mine as well get the tab. Specially since its dual core which in my opinion makes me feel like the flyer will be outdated by the end of the year And from what seen from the tab 7 the screen resolution is great. I know honey comb is coming to the flyer but how smooth will it run on a single core? Never had an HTC Android device so i dont know how good there update are

Other here have had the Flyer longer, and can add their comments on this. But I've had mine for over a week, and no crashes or freezing whatsoever. I'd explore the possibility that the problem was the manufacturer, not the OS version.

EVO 3D owners who bought Tablets?

I've considering a Tablet for the past month. Debating between the Galaxy Tab 10.1, iPad 2 (if I sell my iPod Touch 4) & Eee Transformer.
The latter looks like it will be the best but I want to hear your experiences. Not getting any 3G/4G models as I'll be tethering it via my EVO 3D.
Too bad the HP Touchpad is too hot for the shelves.

I honestly love the transformer. Didn't think I would use it much but I bought it and then the dock a few days later and sold my netbook. The battery life is what drew me to it and the price. I returned the ipad 2 cause I wanted my paid apps plus it just didn't do it for me even though its a great piece of hardware. I use my TF all night at work tethered to my Co workers evo and couldn't be happier. Honeycomb has its flaws for sure but most can be overcome with apps for now and its getting better with every update.

Yeah the Keyboard dock will be in tow, that's what appealed to me. The fact that it's a battery extender, keyboard with touchpad & that it operates via the connector, vs bluetooth really made me love this more.

My only gripe is the Home UI, file management & iTunes.

I had an Epic 4G and recently got a TouchPad. After a week or two with the TouchPad I finally got an Evo 3D. Ever since I've rarely used the TouchPad except for a certain game and to show off my TouchPad.
The newer transformers, model b70 which is selling now cannot be rooted. It has a new boot loader. I have a older one without dock and its okay. I bought to have flash...now I am waiting for the new kel- el versions instead of the tegra 2 chipset. Don't have any experience with the galaxy. I also have a iPad one I use. I switch between those two at home and for the road..I use my color nook because of the portability. I don't nave a favorite, they all suck somewhat in my view, iPad strength is software battery life. Transformer strength is cost( but newer ones remember are locked) . If I where you..hold off for a few months till the new chipset comes out..the kal-el as I mention.

i had a wifi xoom but honestly, it's got some market downloading issues(honeycomb related) plus sd card is read only and there aren't as many apps available in tablet version... to me i felt it was unnecessary since i have a 15" macbook pro. I couldn't for the life of me find a word processing app to type papers... so i retured it within my 14 days...
I've been rocking the 32 GB Acer Iconia wifi version for about 3 months now! It's a pretty solid creature and it's all but replaced the need for a laptop. (though my PC is still up and running... Tablets really can only do so much)
There's really good development for it here at xda (Vache's Taboonay is my ROM of choice... He was developing for the Acer Liquid E when I first came onto the android scene, and knowing he was developing for the Iconia was one of my reasons for choosing it) His kitchen is full of goodies too (we all love goodies, don't we? )
I like the full sized usb port for using thumb drives, external hard drives and usb keyboard/mouse... Even my old Sony Cybershot was instantly detected, plus the HDMI out is a sweet feature. It's really fast and stable. I've been alternating between Polaris and Docs to Go for word processing and spreadsheets, and in my line of work (chef), I find it really useful for inventory, orders, recipe organization, scheduling, etc. It's better than hauling a laptop around.
Just yesterday, I found out how to wired-tether my evo to share data without having to enable the hotspot. All in all, I'm extremely happy with it!
I've seen a heck of a lot of bad press about it, but can't for the life of me understand why. Head over to the Iconia page, and read what other users have to say. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1133 It's quite popular among those of us who have given it a shot. I think it's something of a hidden gem among better known brands.

HTC Flyer or Samsung 7.0 Plus

Good day all. I'm a Best Buy Silver member and have 45 day returns on merchandise. Anyways I picked up the Flyer a week ago and compared to the other tabs I have owned or own (Asus, Acer A500 and A100, HP Touchpad) this is the best in terms of overall functions. Another reason why I say that is because 10 inch tabs are over-the-top; especially if they don't have any ports (that's why I kept the Acer A500). I find 7-9 inchers are more usable. This Flyer is smooth and functions properly unlike most of the Honeycomb tabs. My only concern is will HTC update this beautiful beast? So I'm posing the question to the community of whether to ditch the Flyer or wait it out. Also any input or thoughts about the Samsung 7.0 Plus and if its worth the extra $100 are appreciated
I wish HTC would say something offical and it will make my decision clear.

The Sammy 7plus will have a TFT LCD screen (like Acer A100) not the Super AMOLED or IPS. That should give a pretty poor viewing angle, not up to Sams usual standards and thus much cheaper to build. On the other hand, Sammy has been promising lots of software updates lately.

Ack, I'm conflicted on where to jump into the tablet market. Granted an IPad would play VERY nicely w/my work MacBook & make life a bit easier, HOWEVER, it's large ~sigh~
Looked at the Xoom the other day and, yeah, too big to tote around comfortably so I started leaning toward the Flyer (I'm a huge HTC fan, love rooting my TBolt & Eris prior to that) but it seems like a lot of owners feel disappointed in HTC's (lack of) support for the device.
Maybe they'll go on a sub $200 fire sale if they announce 'no more'
I'm not sure what to get - but I do know that I want the ability to add storage, ie SD, etc., probably want a 7-8" screen with 9-10" being too large and I'd like it to have a good developer base behind it so I can root away and stay the flash addict that I am. Oh and I'd like the screen to be kind on the eyes for book reading & readable outdoors (so that means I need the AMOLED screen I believe?). I also like the $300 price point of this.
What else are you guys using besides the Flyer?

Acer A500 and Nexus S. I do agree the 10 inch ones are to large for daily use especially in public. At they are cool bit I need something portable.

Thank you, but the Nexus S is a phone, isn't it? And, yeah the 10" tab is going to be too large.
I'll have to get to Best Buy and see if they at least have an HTC Flyer on display that I can fiddle with.
I'm trying to make pretty much the same decision. I would rather not be left without an update to ICS. Other than that, the Flyer is looking pretty good. I like the design of it over the Galaxy Tab (though its design isn't horrible either), and it certainly felt snappy enough during my brief use of it in the store. The Tab is $100 more, and I doubt it will drop in the near future (i.e. before the end of the year), since it's a brand new product and Samsung would have a bunch of pissed off early-adopters on their hands. The Flyer, on the other hand, stands to drop in price again, since it's relatively old.
I was also considering the original Galaxy Tab because of the GSM capabilities (would be nice to throw in a pre-paid SIM card just in case), but Samsung failed to include it in the list of devices they're going to upgrade to ICS, and it felt just a tiny bit slow in the store, at least compared to the Flyer.
I am waiting for the day that Asus releases a 7 inch tablet. If they ever do, I will buy it and never look back. They release products that have top notch hardware and the best software and update support in my opinion. If only the transformer or transformer prime were a bit smaller, then they would be perfect for what I want.

They are ok. I have owned 2 Transformers and the build quality was not there. From the hollow back, light bleed, and cracking speakers. That's how I ended up with the Acer is was just solid.

Yeah I had the Acer A100 for a couple of months. Too bad they skimped so much on the hardware. Terrible display, terrible microphone, poor battery life. The software was fine.

TBH... The Flyer is slow compared to the new Dual Core tablets. however... for 300$ + the added pen functionality it's worth it.
My screen also has a yellow tint... Is that the same as every1 Else's?

The screen should not be yellow.
Actually at 1.5ghz the flyer is faster in most cases than any tablet out there. Dual core doesn't get you more usable speed in almost every case because few if any apps are designed in a way that can make use of the dual cores and Android only lets one app be foreground at a time. So most of the time a dual core is only using one and its slower than the Flyer.

Black Friday will probably yield some good deals, so I'm at least hanging tight for that pricing to come out before jumping on anything - and I think I'm going to sell my Ipod Touch, latest gen, NEVER use it.
Ahhh, eBay (or friends on FB, lol)
I have the flyer and I love it! It's built super solid, its very fast, and I love how it scales apps in contrast to how to Galaxy tab did. On a 7" device I would end up using more phone apps then tablet apps anyway, so I don't care about honeycomb. I love my Flyer! The only thing that may replace it is the Galaxy Note...but then again I may still keep it since its really not worth it to only get $200 used for it. Hell, I'd keep it for that just to lend out or use it as a dedicated clock!
I used to be a active user here on XDA when Wondows mobile was the "cool" Mobile OS. Then I bought a iPod Touch when my father bought into the iPhone 3G. I got sucked into Apple with the 3GS, then the 4. I bought a 64gb 3g iPad when it came out, as well...but then I bought a ATT 3g Galaxy Tab refurbished just to try out android....and fell in love.(it made me feel like I used to with windows mobile...the customization) I kept the TAB for a few months then decided to sell both my iPad and my Tab and buy a iPad wifi for cheap, and a Flyer. I canceled my contract and used my unlimited ipad SIM in my Jailbroken iPhone 4....Loving life($30 a month is my only phone bill!)! That iPhone may be downgraded to a mp3 player though....since I am eye balling the Galaxy Note now.

The WiFi version is $300 on Amazon. But yes, the GSM one that I want is still pretty pricey. If I got the original Tab, though, I'd just pick it up from eBay or the forums or something. Or, maybe it will be on sale during Black Friday, since any retailers that still have them need to clear their inventory to make room for the Plus.
This is a hard decision, to be honest. After doing some more research on the Flyer, it seems that the easiest one to acquire in the States (the WiFi one from Best Buy), is also the one that throws up hurdles for modders, such as the inability to go back to stock from a custom ROM.
Now I'm kind of back at square one, debating between the original Tab, the Tab Plus, the Flyer, the IdeaPad A1, and pending more details and reviews, the Huawei MediaPad.

Long term users, what is your verdict after months of use? Hit or Miss?

Five months on from buying this machine, I am still majorly impressed and excited by it. I don't think there is a better 7 inch device out there for user experience. I have spent hours checking out other tablets - particularly Samsung 7.7, 7 plus (owned), Sony S (own) and IPad and I always come back to this beast.
Was hesitant to switch to Honeycomb, but now, no regrets. Minimal / no freezes, great display, very user friendly keyboard and editing, unrivalled animation, fast, top design (consider the placement of volume to power buttons on this, compared to samsung's awkward button positioning) and great sound. Forgot to mention, the price is now irresistible. The only issue is the damn battery.
For me, the Flyer is a hit, big time. Interested to know what other long term users think...

I absolutely loooooove my flyer . I got the best buy wifi version when it first came out. And even though i may have over-payed for it i still love it. Really the n-trig feature is what set this apart from all of the other tablets. Without this feature i really couldn't justify this purchase to my wife (she figured it was just another gadget that i wanted). Then after i got it my wife fell in love with the functionality of it and got one herself. Then after that i had at least ten to fifteen coworkers and friends who purchased the flyer/view (even converted some from the dreaded Ipad). However, only one of them actually makes use of XDA and i highly doubt any of them makes use of or cherishes their tablet as much as i do). I know there are those that don't prefer honeycomb but when I switched to it (many thanks to Globatron) to me it opened up even that much more functionality of the tablet (I don't really play games on it). i I also like the current development that has been going on (really looking forward to ICS). Even though I continue to research the upcoming tablets (after all I am still a gadget guy) i don't see myself replacing my flyer any time soon. The only thing I may be interested in is the Galaxy Note due to it being a phone and only as a supplement to my flyer not as a replacement (i really don't want anything over the seven inch form factor). So to summarize as far as i am concern and for my purposes NOTHING BEATS THE FLYER.
If you can buy something like this and still love it five months on then it really says something, prices are going down so quick and devices getting faster/smaller.
Personally I bought mine when the UK price went down to £230, half-price, and I still love it, would be great if it were thinner & therefore lighter - I'll keep it for the next 18 months and then swap out. In this world today keeping such a gadget for about 2 years is a major success.
Versus an ipad2, ignoring cost, do I still think the Flyer is the better choice? The Flyer wins because of the pen - for me both devices are great for movies and games, but when it comes to making quick sketches in meetings Flyer wins hands-down, those "capacitive pens" I see people using with the ipad are a complete joke.
I am happy with my flyer, but maybe not so much with htc. 6 months into having the device I still enjoy it and have avoided any other device purchases since. htc and their failure to market/support the device would probably prevent me from ever buying one of their devices again. If I had paid full price for my flyer I probably would be pissed.
Flyer
I guess I didn't pay full price either, that's probably why I think this is such a great bargain for all that it does. I cannot believe I forgot to mention how good the pen was! I have the Galaxy Note too. However, for annotation and document highlighting, I only use the flyer. I agree though, that HTC could pull their finger out in terms of support for what is still a relatively new device.
Sent from my HTC Flyer P512 using xda premium
I just bought a Transformer TF300, so that means I'll probably be using my Flyer a bit less when I'm at home. But the Flyer goes with me everywhere, so she'll still see lots of love (at work, for instance).
At any rate, after 9 months of ownership I still think it's a fabulous device, and am still very impressed with the build quality. No regrets and no immediate plans to upgrade to a newer, faster 7" tablet. Yeah, the day will come, but I'm on no hurry.
i've had it since january, and i still love it. use it almost daily, get great battery life out of it, and i love using the pen to take notes instead of misplacing a bunch of little sticky notes!
A few months ago I sold a 7" 64GB Playbook (for a profit) and bought a used 32GB 3G Flyer.
My personal experience is that the Playbook is very good for watching movies. Linking the Playbook to an TV with an HDMI port was also straight forward (just plug it in) so a great media device.
However, I needed a device that had 3G and turn by turn navigation. The Playbook did not provide either of these so I bought the Flyer.
I then found out the the GPS signal on the Flyer looses lock and it cannot find my bluetooth GPS module. Therefore, it does not fulfill one of my principle requirement. Also getting the Flyer to display a movie on a TV is a real pain compared to the Playbook. So for displaying to a TV, the Playbook is better.
The pen on the Flyer is a huge hit with my young daughter. It will keep her happy for hours on a long trip.
So my conclusion
I like the Flyer, it is well made, has a good screen and a good size. Overall I prefer it to the Playbook.
But it is not perfect.
Had mine for about 8 months now or so. Generally very happy with it.
Certainly 7" is the size for me. 10" is a housebound form factor as far as I'm concerned, watching people trying to watch their iPad while standing on the tube or train is amusing.
That said, I thought Sense for Honeycomb was poor. I went back to Gingerbread, tho I noticed that there are several ICS ports around so I may try one of those.
I also feel like the scene is moving so fast that devices generally have really short lifespans at the moment, in terms of official and community support. We might see 2 more Android versions by the time the device starts getting out of date in terms of tech - I doubt they're gonna come to the Flyer, which means apps and services might not be available for an otherwise viable device.
All in all tho, well worth the investment.
I think I would of gotten the galaxy tab 7.0 plus if i had to do it again. I wanted a honeycomb tablet for around $200 to $300 and i saw the flyer had good specs and honeycomb and went for it. Didn't realize how much the honeycomb update ruins the thing. Now I'm back on gingerbread and while it runs alot better, gingerbread just isn't meant for tablets.

I've had mine 10 days shy of a year (purchased May 26, 2011)
The main problem i see is with software support. HTC really dropped the ball by releasing a beta version of HC as the official update. I call it beta due to the gps bug...
If I had to do it over again, I'd have a Samsung or acer 7" tab instead. ICS isn't necessary, just something that works as intended.

That's kinda my thoughts. If hc worked fine I'd be happy with it but it doesn't. It's like taking an old pc and putting vista on it
People say it's just business and I understand not giving us ics because of cost but leaving our tabs in the shape they are is just unacceptable. No reason why they can't just patch honeycomb imo. Personally they better just stay out of the tablet market from now on because I can't speak for everyone but I wouldn't buy another htc tablet!

In the 7 inch market,,the flyer definitely rocks! I had been researching various tablets prior to the flyer's release and had all ready decided it was the one I wanted.
I had been a fan of HTC products for awhile. Their devices are solid and built to last. After owning a flyer for over a year it still works and feels like new. Nothing rattles or is loose in any way.
The processor isn't the fastest but still works great. For me the major selling points where the large capacity battery (4000 mAh) and the scribe pen.
My line of work invloves a lot of handwritten notes and sketches. Nothing even comes close to the flyer.
In addition the size of the flyer is extremely portable and can go with me anywhere. I wish HTC had better support of their tablets, that's my only gripe. Fortunately developers on xda will always find a way.

This is my feelings. Like the product but the company appears to not have a clue
That's really my thoughts. It's an excellent tablet and honestly its perfect on gingerbread, but to get the extra features honeycomb brings your sacrificing usability and stability. HTC left it in a bad place and wants to pretend it never existed. And now they are banking their whole future on the one series, and already hearing things about it like screwed up multitasking, battery life issues etc. And beats audio... Who cares really? My phone has it and its alot of money spent for an autotuned equalizer setting that only works with wired headphones, which does me no good anyway because I'm using a stereo bluetooth headset. HTC is clueless. They can yield good quality products but they can't support them to save their lives. And the flyer was purely a victim to bad marketing.

I love it . I have several tablets and this View works great for me. I use the pen and lecture notes all day long and have the sprint $20 plan when I an not near wifi. I also use google voice so I can have the tablet be a phone too which works great on the plane too.
I can't imagine what features I would want that I don't have with the View.
I am excited about the windows 8 tablets but until then I am good to go. I actually bought two Views...one for backup.

I think HTC would respond better for a GPS fix in honeycomb rather than everyone begging for ICS because that just won't happen from HTC.

Is it worth getting htc flyer?

Someone in my country is selling his second hand flyer..price is around 100 USD,no more warranty.. I will be using the flyer for writting microsoft word and stuff in college, since carrying a laptop is such a hassle. Coz im walking to train station and home..so which was heavy.. Is it worth getting it? Can the cpu keep up with it? Does it support 1080p video play back? Thanks in advance

If its a 32 GB storage version then price is best depending on the functionality though. I am using a htc Flyer myself so in my opinion for writing stuff its great it even have a pen which can be used. It supports up to 720p video playback and the performance is great doesn't lags a bit if its on official ROM i.e. Honeycomb. But it compared to other tablets its heavy because of made of aluminum which feels kind of solid though and I think its a great deal at this price if every thing in tablet working fine. Its solid as Rock !!! Go for It....///

For 100 Dollar it is worth to buy it, but remember there is nearly no more custom rom developement.
The HTC Flyer is still a great Tablet :good:
My recommendation is a big NO..here r the reasons-
1.very outdated device
2.no more custom roms since no developer is involved
3.1gb ram-bit slow compared to newly launched devices
4.touch screen isnt very responsive
And many more....
I too have this device and its getting dusted somewhere around the corner! Believe it or not its in working condition and I didnt used it for bout 3 months!!
So dont buy it even its cheap instead invest few bucks more and get a one with higher specs, so that its future proof too..
〽 ???✌ ?? ????Ⓜ?
Even though it's very cheap nowadays, it isn't very worth it. I got the HTC View, for 99$, really cheap, but there's hardly any support for it anymore (and support for the Flyer is vanishing now..), and it's not too powerful. Still a good tablet in my opinion, but personally, I'd save up for the Galaxy Note 8.
Currently im struggling with nexus 7 2013 32gb with lte and galaxy tab 3 8.0..

Personally, I won't advise you to buy it. Even if I've got the 2 versions, I can tell you that, it's not a good tablet for "Word-typing" at all ! @mannyvinny gave many (excellent) reasons ! Considering what you want to do with your new tablet, any ASUS Transformer with his keyboard and Microsoft Office installed (or any substitute) , would be a better choice  !
