Hi folks,
My Hero runs on 2.1.
I've recently moved some music onto my phone but no matter what I do, the mp3s are not detected by either the stock mp3 player or MixZing player. When I access the actual mp3 files through Linda file manager and open them using MixZing, they play, but I get an error about tags missing.
After seeing this error, I've downloaded a couple of different tag editors and made sure every single field (i.e. genre, artist, etc.) was filled out properly. Still, the problem remains: no mp3 player on the Hero detects these mp3 files.
Anyone run into this problem before and know the fix?
Thanks!
Problem solved. The way windows media player synced the files was not good. I replaced them manually in a different folder and, presto.
Mods, you can close or delete this.
Is it me or does the SGS2 not show the artist tag in .m4a files? whats going on?
I installed PowerAmp, it's the only music app I could find that shows all of the tags and artwork for my iTunes music files (m4a's).
Mine still has missing tags? every other phone I've had has been fine? what have samsung done? and why??
the tag is still there when I load it back to iTunes, but something on the phone is stopping the tag being seen, very strange?
havent been using .m4a files yet but will try some out tonight when i get home from work. tried any other media player such as winamp? maybe a tag problem with PowerAMP?
I've used Doubletwist, Winamp, PowerAMP, and a tag editor to see what wrong, all do the same thing, can't figure it out, and the SGS2 guide it says plays .m4a's but its the only android phone I've seen this on?
You could always sync with Winamp and tell it to transcode .m4a into another format during sync, it's in the device properties when your phone is plugged in!
I could, but important now using spotify and synchronized my playlists, crazy but works.
I still don't understand why the sgs2 won't see the tags on m4a files? My nexus s and desire s do? Strange Samsung idea maybe?

I don't know, but I'm hoping it's easily fixed... I've just sold my iPod Touch so I can use the SGSII as my music player when I get it! Ripped some of my favourite CDs to .flac as well for the best music quality
Well if you find out, let me know, its bugging me, and seams to make a great phone, a bit second rate!

Just got my SGSII yesterday... my m4a tags are fine! Not sure what's happening with yours D:
EDIT: I was totally wrong, the artist didn't show up. Luckily I had like one album in m4a format, so I changed it to mp3 and everything's fine now! Just missing a few album arts here and there, but I think that's more a Winamp problem than a problem with the SGSII
Mine are the same .m4a artist tag shows as unknown. Play fine etc just doesn't show the artist
I've noticed that the Kies software from Samsung doesn't recognise any of the music tags for m4a files either even though it downloads codecs?
how have you guys transferred the music onto the s2?
I'm using Winamp to drag and drop, then play using Winamp on the phone and the same happens to me. 10GB of my 20GB collection is in m4a too.
Try using sync with Winamp and tell it that m4a isn't supported, and to transcode m4a into mp3 maybe? Might do the trick!
I found this after having copied files to the new phone, then searching under the artist and not finding the album I had copied. I searched for a keyword in the song name and sure enough - same symptoms. m4a files purchased form iTunes, plays the file fine, but not sorted properly.
Guess I'll give another music player app a shot.

All the other players I tried use the system media DB as the source, which is where the data problem lies.
I tried Winamp, poweramp, doubletwist and all have the same problem.
Looks like maybe we need a firmware update to fix this?
M4A tracks don't have an artist
I have the same issue here.
Any applications that use the system media library (which include DoubleTwist, Winamp, PowerAMP) don't display the artists.
I downloaded a tag editor app onto the phone, but when I go to edit the tags, they are all correct, it does seem to be an issue with the system, and not any apps.
Has anyone tried installing the default music player from vanilla Gingerbread?
Or is the media library part of the OS more than just that app?
Would imagine that the stock Android music player will have the same problem. It's pretty apparent that Samsung have customised the media scanner and broken it for no apparent reason, since it worked just fine before!
I'm not completely clear on how components such as the media scanner/media store database are packaged up but would hazard a guess that it might be possible to replace the Samsung version with the vanilla version...
In PowerAMP > Folders view, if I long press a m4a file then select Info I can clearly see that the artist info is there.
However, in Library view (which I wan't using at all until last week) the Artist section is definitely missing the m4a files.
The problem somehow seems to be all files that use AAC-codec (m4a, mp4, etc.). My .mp4-files wich worked perfectly on my old SGS are now broken (tags, that is).
It must be a system problem, cause other programs experience this also. And The music player seems to be pretty much the same as in SGS.
REALLY hope they fix this soon. I've been ripping my CD:s tp MP4:s for years. Not going to convert them all to mp3:s.
I have tried asian GB firmwares for my SGA, namely DDKQ5 and XKPB, but the stock music player show mp3 tags for most (not all) of my chinese and jap songs as funny symbols. I tried using a different media player, such as Double Twist, but same result. The tags look ok when i open the sd card on the computer. When I tried XXKPH, all the tags showed up correctly as well. Froyo was fine with the tags, so i downgraded back to DDKC1. Anyone else having this problem with DDKQ5 or XKPB?
yes, that is framework problem. i never had this when i was using Froyo or VillainROM..
now CM7 fixes that
Wow that's a custom firmware right? I've looked around and it seems that custom firmwares do boost the speed of the device by a lot. But currently there's no custom firmware that's based on asian stock ace firmware right? Also I found out that the swype keyboard is not available in CM7? Sorry but I am new to custom firmwares....
I flashed my ace using the coderomv2b and used the ext4 app to format the sd. Performance is much better, but I'm having issues with the media player.
1. Some of the unicode mp3 tags are still incorrectly displayed in the stock player. I tried double twist but it was worse.
2. After I long press the menu key and type into the search box, nothing comes up in the stock media player.
3. The player seems to be skipping during playback.
Anyone else having these issues??

I was having problem with some .m4a songs, they keep their tag information in xml-format which is different from mp3 (which uses ID3). iPod and iphones doesnt have this problem since m4a are made by apple
m4a(Apple Lossless Audio Codec) are made for apple's product which is why they doesnt co-operate that well with android.
Solution:
Convert them to MP3. The only converter that i used who kept the tags was Switch Audio File Converter. You might use some other converter as well.
My songs are all in mp3 format, and are tagged using mediamonkey.
Thanks for your replies, but I flashed the blackhawk custom rom just to try it out and amazingly, the song information appears correctly, and I am able to perform search function in the media player. Haven't test the skipping part yet...
Btw anyone using the black hawk rom as well? I only managed to get quadrant scores of around 1000; I managed to get 1500 while on coderomv2b. I applied the crs check ram script...any ideas?
Edit: I forgot to enable the Media stagefright....my bad. :S Now I'm getting 1500+ as well on this rom.
Well even if your quadrant score is low it shouldnt matter as long as your phone is running in a good speed.
When you import your songs via mediamonkey, doesnt all your songs get transfered to the rootfolder? That happend to me which is why im not using it.
Hey i have only just purchased my Galaxy10 tablet, i have put a few songs on it but it still says in the 'music player' that there are 0 songs. I am able to listen to these songs individually in 'my files' but i cannot open anything else up (e.g. i cant listen to music while working on polaris office).
Is there something im missing that will easily fix this? or is it a problem with all the galaxy tabs.
Thanks, Nic.
I mentioned thi in your other post, but make sure the music is placed in where the player looks for music. I had this issue with different players looking in different folders and not showing ones the other players would. There's another suggestion in the other post, but I forget what it was. something about clearing the cache in settings/apps/music player you're using. I think.

thanks for the reply, i have tried moving my files around, still no luck. I also read the other suggestion on my other post and i cleared the cache/data of the music player and still didnt make a difference. ill continue trying to fix it though, and hopefully will eventually get it .
Thanks Heaps for putting me that one step closer, Nic.
Post what music player you're using. That will help too.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using one finger.
im using the one that came with it, which is 'Music Player'. I also tried using 'Winamp' but still had no success, if you know of any better apps to use for this it would be greatly appreciated.
any one have any other suggestions on what i could do to fix this problem??
It would be helpful to know where the files are located and what format they are.
Also try moving your music to /sdcard/Music.
hey, umm all my music is in .mp3 format. and the music is in 'my files/music'.
would it make a difference if i used itunes to sync the music from my pc to the tablet? (at the moment i am using 'windows media player' which is up to date)
is your tab rooted? if so, try use root explorer, find the folder and make sure there is no .nomedia file in that folder.if so, delete it and try open music player back
Shouldn't matter, no. Move it to the folder I said and see what happens. Music player is probably looking for them to be in that folder.
ssss
hey, I had the same issue. the fix is simple, go to apps--> Music player and you'll find you music there. if you open the music player in the tray on the bottom of the tablet you wont find your music.
Recently i changed my ROM and since then all music apps, including stock, says i only have a few songs on whereas Astro File manager shows i have all my albums and i can only listen to them through there, not a normal music app. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks ;D
What Rom you on?if miui go to music folder in settings but if still you have nothing You can try this app available on Google play
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=media+scanner+
Im on FeraVolt v16 but the problem occurred when I tried v13 I think
il download the app and see what is says
Thanks
Anyone be able to shed some light on how I can get my music back?
What media players have you tried?
Even have you checked permissins to the music folders if there are readable and writable for all?
Iv tried stock music player, DoubleTwist, Meridian, AMP? maybe some others? and none of them could 'see' most of the songs. I know they are on the card in the music folder, would i maybe need to move them to a new one? The music apps can see 7 songs, but i have alot more on my card :/
Try MortPlayer - It is folder based (I love it, because play randomly by files,to albums etc...). Run it and select you music folder to scan it and see it it will be seen.
Il try that once my phone has charged fully, i ordered a new one after mine started to fail :/ should i delete battery stats after the charge to 100% do you think?
I think that it is not necessary if you wont observe some kind of strange reportings of battery level.
Thanks for the recommendation, MortPlayer seems to be working well. Just trying to gte the correct ablum arts now
You should be fine by rebooting the phone, if not then try wiping cache data and dalvik

Anytime
Use TCM musicTag Editor - simple and usable
Mortplayer uses the covers inside the music files or in their directory for eg. album art. Similar like dekstop players.
But still cant understand why other players cant recognize other music, as mentioned before, try reboot and even the wipe data of "Media provider".
