Device:-Wt19i
Rom:StockIcs.587
Rooted:Yes
Kernel:Stock
Boot-loader:Locked
Is it necessary to have boot-loader unlocked to install a custom kernel, mods, roms ?
when i install a mod via CWM my phone it goes in boot loop.
when i flash custom kernal flashtool says your device need to be rooted or something like this. {Though my device s rooted}.
when i install a custom rom[Real ics5.2] my phone is bricked just hangs at sony logo.
Thanks in Advance for help.
Sorry for my bad English.
English is not my native language.
No you must unlock bootloader to install custom kernels.
Some roms are for locked bootloader, too. These you can flash with cwm. But read carefully, what has to be formatted and wiped.
Look for roms for locked bootloader and you can install them. But ics roms must flashed through cwm when you are currtently on stock ics rom by sony. So root your phone like this to have root in ics and then flash any ics rom for "locked bootloader"
Thanks

I have unlocked my bootloader using se's official unlocking mehod. I want to install CWM and a custom ROM. How to do it? Please reply soon.
How will I know if my bootloader is unlocked?
CWM installation is not needed.
First install custom kernel, which is given with the ROM or if it is stock GB based ROM, use Rage or X kernel.
After that you already have CWM, so just enter it and install the ROM.
More info in my tutorial, check signature.

Hey guys anyone ever flashed a kernel through cmw recovery? I've seen it done on youtube but never seen it done here.

you can flash kernel through recovery only on Locked Bootloader and not unlocked bootloader.
There is doomlord's bootmanager for unlocked bootloader supporing to boot into different kernels while booting but haven't tried it personally so dont know about it
Thanks. But why I ask is out of curiosity and Because my computer crashed leaving me on a cm7 rom I don't particularly like for two days! So how is it that flashing kernels for only locked bls? So not fair. Sounds strange to me. well I'm no dev or a noob. Hmmm but I wonder if I can flash that boot manager through cwm? What you think?

nope sorry mate you cant do that.
Bootmanager can be flashed only by flashtool.
In Locked bootloader, the sony kernel is killed and than custom kernel starts after this process so we can flash it via cwm
In Unlocked bootloader we have to remove the sony kernel and load the custom kernel but on X10 its not possible with cmw/xrec

Hi , I have a locked bootloader and rooted my phone and then I installed CWM but now when I flash a rom I don't have root anymore?
Could somebody help me or isn't this possible?
ty xd
The rom you flashed didn't contain a pre rooted kernel. You need to root again or flash a pre rooted kernel on that new rom. More info can be found on the dev sections pinned posts. I'm not sure what a locked bootloader allows tho...

My Xperia S is unlocked bootloader, using [email protected] rom with ICS15 kernel with CWM recovery. If I want to re-lock bootloader what steps needed to flash stock ICS rom. I mean, do I flash stock rom first and than re-lock BL or otherwise. I am asking this because the rom I am using is for unlocked BL therefore when I re-lock the BL there will be conflict which will force the phone to stop working. The kernel I am using will work with stock rom? If someone guide me how to start the process with step-by-step guide. Thanks

Hi monivan. Sorry for my ignorance. The kernel I am using (ICS15) is not stock? If no, from where I get stock kernel and how do I flash it. CWM or Flashtool.
if you have a ftf for stock ics, extract the ftf using winrar or 7zip then look for kernel.sin, flash it via fastboot, or you can flash via flashtool, uncheck everything except kernel.
I have a question, I have a xperia S (lt26i), and I have allowed bootloader status "no", I have the generic 4.0.4 android world, but hey seen you can install the root cwm and also do not need the boot loader unlocked, having locked bootloader could install cyanogenmod 9?? or any way to get it having locked bootloader without having to flash the kernel?
If this was in the right section you would get your answer a lot faster as a lot of people now ignore question threads in the GENERAL section.

Nope you need an unlock boootloader to boot CM rom

Not yet would be the right answer as some people are working on trying to get custom kernel onto a locked bootloader as this is the thing stopping users with locked bootloaders have cm ://

I read somewhere that putting a generic rom 4.0.4 in specific and having locked bootloader cwm installed, you could install CM9, 9 not 10, because the kernel was compatible with CM9 and did not need to flash another kernel. And would have locked bootloader CM9 with and without flash kernel.
Its possible. You have to wait. check this thread, you can understand.
