Hey guys. So I try this with every Super AMOLED(+) device I see. I used to own a ONE X so I wanted to see the difference in the "Deepness" of the Black colours.
So in the One X or S2 when u (turn off the flash) and completely cover the lens of the camera (with a big chunk of tissue or something) and take a picture i get the "PERFECT BLACK" coloured picture!
But in the SGS3 when i do the exact same thing. The picture captured has the yellow-brownish tinge on the sides [not completely black in any means] . And no light is creeping in. I have given the S2 and the S3 both the same situations.
TELL ME IF U HAVE THIS KINDA GLITCH IN UR PHONE?
THANKS!
I tried it on mine. The picture turns out all black, pitch black.

i bought the i9100 few days ago.when i am in the"dark"room(no lights on), and i view a pure black picture, i would find dozens of dirty dark spots on the screen!! however, just a little light on the screen ,these spots would be unvisable or hard to see. anyone could have these problem? or help to give some explaination?thanks
Oops, what is that? Try to take a Photo of it, without a photo it's impossible to detect the issue. Also do a Screenshot and post it here.
Regards.
honestly, can,t take this photo ,cause, even a little light on,it become unvisible. But,just put a pure black picture on the screen, and sit in a "full dark" room, better at night, watch carefully the screen, maybe found them.try it
I have this too.
Same here. I think it's the glue on the back side of the display, because it doesn't show up on any other occasion.
So i've heard that the S-AMOLED and S-AMOLED Plus technology has "Perfect" Blacks! Like the Blacks don't even "Light-up".
Is it true? Or is it just a marketing thing? :/
Try this and tell me what do u have?
Turn off all the lights in the night and then view some BLACK picture. U'll see that the Blacks are kinda "Greyish" :/
And there are some pixels that are perfectly black.. but they're just Random... :/
known "issue" on lowest screen brightness
Ohk.. So its not "Completely Black".
theres also another problem with it aswell... When I view some pitch black picture in a completely dark room. I see some small rectangular shapes that are "Pitch Black" in that Greyish background. I cant snap a picture of that unfortunately but u kinda get the idea. Can someone try this with there own S3 and report me? :/
It'll be quite helpful
Is well known issue.

Mine does the same thing: darker black splotches when viewing a black picture on the dimmest screen setting in a dark room.
Fortunately I don't often find myself looking at all-black images in the dark. It's hardly a major issue.
this issue is quite common, even on iPads, Motorola etc...apparently it is the adhesive within the layers of the AMOLED that causes an "ink" mark when screen displays black images within a dark environment...nothing is actually wrong with your scren, mine has 2 very small dots...while my other friend has had his replaced because the issue was far more prominant...so there is a possibility of claiming warranty? but this will depend on the country/retailer/etc...but always worth giving it a shot if you cant stand this issue...but yes, earlier batches, the issue was far more obvious...but later ones are better but information from other XDA threads suggest that you WONT find a unit without any marks...period.
Hi, after two years with Defy I bought brand new Atrix 4G fw. 45.31.1.MB860.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU, non rooted. The problem is that all dark colors like gray, dark-blue, dark-green, dark-red seems to be black. Rest of bright colors seems to be fine. For example gray menu with black letters is bright, clear and sharp but buttons like in Power Amp (dark buttons on dark background) has no borders and there is no difference between them and background. The same thing is with movies - daylight scenes looks nice but night scenes are so dark that it's hard to see anything. I installed Screen Adjuster too boost contrast and then all dark colors starts to be clearer and didn't split to black but rest of bright colors starts to be completely washed. Screen looks fine on bright background and it's alot better than washed up screen id Defy but on dark background there is no difference between dark colors, all looks black. Strange thing is that noone post this problem before so could it be factory damaged screen or maybe some software issue?? I really need help with it cause I payed for this phone the same as I sold my 1 year old Defy Plus and this Atrix is new so it would be nice to fix it, otherwise I need to return it quickly but I wont find that phone in the same occasional price.
So anyone can help??

Photos are not good quality but when You look on collar You should know what I mean.

I've the same issue, Chamelleon! have you found the way to fix it? now i'm running neutrino 2.9 CM7, so it doesn't seem to be a rom problem....
It must be kernel issue cause on AtrICS everything looks ok. Temporary solution is Screen Adjuster from Play Store and add some contrast. Colors looks more ****ty but You can see what is on the screen.

ty Chamelleon! i'll try
Hey guys, I've never posted here, I mostly just lurk and try to learn things.
My question is a bit difficult to explain but I'll try my best. Do me a favor and take a photo while completely covering the camera lens, then view the photo in the gallery. Make sure youre in a dark room and viewing the photo in full screen, wait a second for the back and task manager buttons to turn off as well.
Is your picture completely black or are the outside edges and corners fuzzy and white almost?
My previous phones are Galaxy S1, 2, 3 and 4 along with the Note 3 (which I miss :/ ) never had a problem like this, I do believe some GS2s had a similar problem with the screen being spotty in black images.
thanks.

Hello there, I did a test for you on mine, when i was in my room with my lights on but completely covered the lens and mine came out fuzzy. It seems that the s5 camera is very powerful picking up the slightest bit of light !
Then I turned off the lights in my room and did the same test, this time it was pitch black.
Did you try turning all your lights off in your room?
Thanks for your input, my initial test was in a room with the lights off. Looks so bad :/

I noticed that with my camera too. The exact same thing happens to me too when I cover the camera, in both lighted and unlighted rooms. But I'm pretty sure it's normal. When your ISO is on auto, you'll notice that the camera turns up the ISO past what you can manually set it at (800). So since they're bumping up the ISO so high (probably ~1600 in dark areas), there's going to be considerable amounts of noise, even with very low light.
You can see for yourself that if you compare auto ISO and ISO 800 in a dark room, the latter will be much more pitch black like you expect it to be.
Just bought a S3 weeks ago. I thought AMOLED display can go completely off when displaying just pure black . I tested it out with a full screen black picture. The display isn't going fully black it seemed like the display was ON with mild lighting. But the strange thing that I observed are some black spots(or random shapes) during this test. PLEASE REFER THE ATTACHED PICTURE TO GET A ROUGH IDEA OF WHAT I"M TRYING TO SAY. Is this showing something wrong about the display. What's your suggestion?
My suggestion is you search for the many other exact same posts before posting a new one, it's normal to see uneven black in low light.
