Can I just say, I've had three Xperia S's now and they've all been unlocked by default. It can't be a coincidence that this happens.
This is Ireland, and the majority of our handsets are locked- so I can't see why other countries are having issues with it.

I hope this thread belongs here.
Anyway, today 3 Sweden said on their facebook page that their branded SGSII will have a locked bootloader, and after some questions they said that Samsung always locks the bootloader on branded versions. It got me really confused...isn't the SGSII from O2 in UK branded yet still have unlocked bootloader?
What do you guys think? Is there a good reason for Samsung to lock the bootloader on branded phones or is this just a misunderstanding on behalf of 3 Sweden?
If this now is true, do you guys think that it's a really hard lock or something that the geniouses here on XDA can solve?
From what I have seen it sounds as if they are confused, they probably assume we no nothing and are just talking about network lock (sim lock)
My SGS2 was from o2, it was network locked but not the bootloader. From other post it seems Samsung have said the will not lock the bootloader on the SGS2.
Yeah I really hope that too...
Here is the announcement translated from swedish:
We have talked to Samsung in Korea and received information that the phones from Samsung will be delivered with locked bootloader.
We apologize for the misinformation we went out with earlier today.

and then this after me questioning the whole locked bootloader drama:
Unfortunately Samsung always lock the bootloader on operator customized phones.

Yeah. I also think that they are abit confused. Why lock the bootloader for a small group of users? I gonna order my S2 this week

please ignore all things from customer service reps.
Maybe they confused Bootloader with Baseband..

They were talking about the usual carrier simlock!
There will be no bootloader-locked GT-I9100...

Hello Guys
I have a stupid question, can someone tell me how to unlock Xperia S so that I will be able to use any sim from any network? I have a chance to buy Xperia S on Monday but it is locked to 3 network in UK and I'm currently in Tesco Mobile. Please can someone help asap. Thanks
Maybe if you flash a world generic firmware.
Next time ask in Q&A forum.

Is that it? God I thought it will be much harder because I couldn't find it anywhere how to do it. The only way to do it I found was to buy an unlock code for £44 . Sorry for posting here, next time I will write in Q&A if I will have a problem like that. Thanks for your help

I just phoned o2 as they are my network provider and they gave me the unlock code, put a different SIM card in from a different network and put in the code.
I thought they had to.
Cheers,
Lunar.

For most carriers it's against the contract to resell locked devices.

That's why I am informing you. If you ask them to unlock a phone that was sold as a contract violation, it won't do you any good.

This would be the case if the original person bought it with contract. But if he got it sim free( pay as you go), then it is legal.
To answer the original question, the only way is to phone three themselves and ask for unlocking code, I think it is 20-30 pounds
I recently bought the Xperia U for my partner that was locked to the 3 network. They will unlock it, BUT the person on the contract will have to make th call and they will supply him with the code, can take up to a week for it as it comes from Sony themselves. I think the cost was about £15 for it.
Thread moved to Q & A section.
Hi guys,
sorry if I'm posting this in Tablet Z section but as far as I can see there's no one for the Z2. Anyway, I'd like to know if the bootloader unlock on a Z2 no brand LTE version is still possible. I'm thinking about buying one but If I can't unlock the bootloader I don't know If I will, probably not.
What do you know about It?
Thanks
There is a section for it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2-tablet
But, I guess it will be unlockable, yes...

Normally, the bootloader locked tablets are only the one sold through a carrier...

I'm going no brand. So, is there any even tiny little piece of chance that the bootloader will be unlockable? That's very important to me *.*

My friend bought a Z2 from AT&T, and it's locked!
When I put my simcard, my phone ask me for a code to unlock. How can I get this code?

http://sim-unlock.net/sim-lock/186/Unlock_by_code_any_Sony_network_AT&T_USA/
The most reliable service. Just make sure you have enough counts to unlock.
In addition to the above poster's URL, there's also http://www.cellunlocker.net/sony-ericsson-unlock.php
I provided the AT&T link first because it's free to unlock. If AT&T gives you a hard time, I'd go with cellunlocker.

Know what? If it's reliable? Trust me I've done lots of them with these guys. Very reliable, very fast. Read reviews of them.
I'm not affiliated in any way. I'm just a happy customer. You can try any other.
