how to add more than one numbers to contacts - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all on my galaxy s i could put mobile numbers and house numbers together for the same contact so when i opened that contact i had all the numbers i needed for them but on the galaxy S3 i can not find this option is it possible thank for any help givenmul

click on contact, click edit there is a green + sign next to phone click this and then a new line will appear to enter the number with the label next to the input box e.g. work or home or
If you have the contacts already stored then long press on contact and click join then find the name of the contact you want to join to and click it, the 2 contacts should now be joined with both numbers

Easier to edit your contacts in gmail (assuming you have your google account sync on)
Add multiple contact details per contact.

Not sure, maybe you only have the SIM Contacts shown? There you can only store one number....Make sure you create a Google Contact.

If you don't use Google Contacts have it set to display Phone contacts. That will give you multiple fields also.
Some people, myself included, don't sync Google contacts.

google map and contacts

Got a strange one here. I wanted to use google map to direct me to one of my contacts, but when I choose an end point of a contact, I can only select 2 of my contacts out of many others (which unfortunately the 2 contacts is not what I wanted to go to!).
I couldn't see any difference between one contact to another so why isn't all the contacts selectable?

Going out on a limb here, but could those possibly be the only 2 contacts that you have actual addresses for in your phone?
All the other contacts has postal home or work addresses (with postcode too)

i attempted to do the same thing, and here is a very, very annoying workaround i had to do.
go through and rename all of your contacts to match their first and last names on Facebook; after that, remove your facebook account and add it back in. if it won't allow you to re-apply your facebook account, you're going to have to change your password. i don't know why, that's just what worked for me after searching for a solution for about 3 hours.
it might not update your contacts immediately, i have to do this process everytime i add a new contact to facebook/my phone and i want them synced. the longest it's taken my phone to sync back up with Facebook is about 15 minutes.
remember, their names have to be exact for this to work.
Try separating the contacts, adding your changes to the non-facebook entry and then rejoin them.

That's the problem, I have tried that and there is no option to "merge" them together.

You've hit menu, edited the contact and then hit menu again? That's where the 'Join' option is. Once they're joined, I hit 'done' and all set.
I've noticed that I need to delete their icon on the original contact if I want the their FB profile photo to take effect.
Not sure if I understood what you need... but I think Contact Analyzer 2 could work for you. I had a lot of duplicated contacts. That program helps you to merge contacts, delete duplicates, etc.
I believe pre-GB the the buttons were just there when you edit the contact, on GB there is that additional menu button to get to them.
here is how i merged mine. example
joe smith 111-111-111 joe smith facebook contact
you should have 2 entries in your contacts. one with a number and one facebook contact.like you said you can not edit the facebook contact. so while on the facebook contact hit menu - edit contact. that should bring you to the screen where it tells you it is not editable. the boxes done and revert should be at the bottom. hit menu again, in the lower right hand corner should be a join option. hit join and it will bring you to a join contacts screen. now just select the contact that has the phone number.
I don't know how to thank you guys' enough - I thought I would have to resort to a third party app or removing/re-adding Facebook... God, I don't know why they made it so much more convoluted in GB to do something that was easy enough in Froyo.
Thankyou

Unlinked a linked contact in whatsapp by accident

Hello all,
I am using Xperia P on Jelly bean (4.1.2). I had accidentally unlinked a local contact from whatsapp contact. I tried to link it back but I only find other contacts in the local phone contact list. I tried to delete the contact and add it again, but the whatsapp icon doesn't show in the local contact when I viewed it in phonebook. I synced the Whatsapp under Settings -> Accounts -> Whatsapp but when I viewed that contact in phonebook the whatsapp contact still doesn't show. Is there anyway to link the contact to whatsapp like the way it was before?
How exactly did you unlink it?

Hi carlaba2. Under edit contact, there is an unlink button under each local contact linked to whatsapp.

I just did the same for one of my contacts just to see if I found a way to solve it.. no success for now
I have managed to solve this very problem with the help of the WhatsApp support.
Open Settings
Go to [Accounts and Sync] > [WhatsApp]
Press the menu button and choose [Remove Account]
Go to WhatsApp and refresh your contacts. All the contacts in the phone book will be fixed.
The procedure may differ a little depending on your device - e.g. on a Galaxy Note 3 you have to choose [Accounts] in the [General] tab of the settings, then you have to tap [WhatsApp], [yourphonenumber] and [Remove Account]. Hope that helps!
Removing the whatsapp account will also delete the messages.
Here is the right way...
1. Have a whatsapp message sent to the contact which was unlinked.
2. Delete the mobile number from the phone's contact.
3. Go to whatsapp and the open the message of the contact. Note here in whatsapp that only the number is shown, not the name.
4. After opening the message click "add" and choose existing, browse to the contact that you have unlinked it from and select it.
Also note that the number is added to your address book with the full country code.
This problem is solved..
Just sign in to your whatsapp in any other device and resign in to your device.. then all the contacts will be refreshed and it will normal.
deleting the number or removing account will have their drawbacks.. like deleting you from the groups, also deleting your admin rights of the groups if any.. deleting the previous messages and chat history..
so simply sign into any other device and then get back to your original device.. :good:

[Q] How can I add phone number to synced facebook contacts ?

Hello guys I just got my galaxy S5 and I'm about to freak out !!!
I synced the phone with my facebook , now I have all my facebook friends in my phone contacts but I CAN NOT edit them and add their phone number !!!
is there any one who can help me with that ?!!? I looked everywhere on the internet and I didn't find anything !
how can I edit and add phone number to my synced facebook friends in my galaxy s 5 contacts ?!?!?
The Samsung contacts app has a combine function in which u can combine the same contact from different apps, so u can use that to combine a Facebook contact with their phone no (which would be a Google/phone contact)
Just open the contact page, scroll down to connection, select add a connection

[Q] Get rid of the Google+ contacts in search

I guess this is not a specific Samsung Edge problem but not sure where to post.
So I have set up the Samsung to sync with my google account where I have about 350 private contacts and I have something called "other contacts" that contain 4750 contacts and I guess they are people who have circled me on Google+
I have managed to show only my own contacts in the contacts app on the phone, by defining what to show, however when I try to search for a contact I get hits from all those 4750 contacts as well. So even though the "other contacts" has been unmarked, these contacts still show up when I search for a contact...
So let's say I want to find "Jane", I can scroll down to J and find Jane (I only have one). But if I start typing in the search field "J" I have 500 hits.. and if I continue to type Jane I have 40... Can I disable the search of Google+ contacts?
Any advise appreciated

You can remove unwanted Google contacts using an app called Contact Remover. once you remove them, they don't seem to come back.

So if I use this app, will it only remove them from the phone or also from my Google+ circles?
