XWLPG Stock OTA Update? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im on stock XWLPG and there is a OTA Update available... about 117.85mb in file size
Im rooted with custom kernel Siyah 4.1rc1, Im not sure about this update has anyone applied this to thier GS2 with success?

If your on a custom ROM then don't do updates, you'll end up in a boot loop, if you want the update, flash via Odin, for a custom kernel I'm not sure it'll work but you can try!

[Q] When we flash to official ROM does our Kernel flash to official too?

Hi Guys,
Recently I rooted and flashed with the custom Kernel on my SGS II. But now decided to go back to the official ROM.
So my question is, when I flash it with official ROM (through ODIN). Will the custom Kernel be replaced by the official Kernel that came with the official ROM?
Thank you in advance to the kind soul that replied.
Yes.

Yes, if you needs custom kernel again then you have to flash it separately via Odin again.

If you don't have jig, I suggest to flash to ics first, use triangleaway and then flash back to stock with mobile odin

No official ics releases yet. They were just suggesting a round about way of getting rid of the triangle by flashing a leaked version of ics then using an app to remove the triangle then use something like CWM or mobile Odin to flash back to a GB Rom.
Like I said long winded process.
Just flash an official firmware. Then flash cfroot kernel for that version of firmware. Then if you want to get rid of the triangle use a USB jig available for a few dollars off eBay.

Only if you want to get it thru Kies
there is a .tar file in the main Official ICS thread that is used with Odin
Im not sure if I'm being misunderstood, I'm wondering if its necessary for me to upgrade to official ICS in order to flash future ICS ROMs?

I get what you are asking, ignore the last guys comment. Yes, to upgrade official firmware you have to be on official firmware unless someone makes a one click odin for people to install. If there are anymore upgrades from AT&T you will have to be on stock Gingerbread or Stock ICS to do the official upgrade.

There is a .tar file to flash thru Odin
I'm running it and flashed it thru Odin
And I wasn't on official firmware
Kies is another option.
Read up before you bash
The majority is flashing thru Odin and rooting thru Odin as well

Not true. I was on the CM 9.1 rom from hotwire, connected to kies and ran the update with no issue.

I don't believe so, no. When you flash a custom ROM (whether ICS or otherwise) you should do a full wipe anyway, so being on official ICS is irrelevant.
And the developers comment out or remove the signature checks for their roms so you can upgrade from any rom but samsung roms do a signature check and abort if stock rom and modem are missing.
Thank you very much guys.

I used Kies on my PC whilst in Download mode twice yesterday to put the official update on my phone.
I had FJ's UCLF5 / IMM76D B9 on my Note both times.
I used the process detailed in this thread:

XDA is no longer worth my time.

How do you update your kernel?

Hey all, as asked above how do you update your kernel? I have updated my rom but I have no idea how to update the kernel. I'm on stock (Tmobile)
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
The kernel update well already be included in the update if you are talking about a stock update.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I flashed via odin. I was told in a previous thread that my camera has been messed up due to not having an updated kernel.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Depending on which kernel you want to flash, some are in .tar and must be flash via Odin. And other in .rar are flashed via CWM. In case you want to flash a custom one.
As dr.mox said, if you want stock kernel, the update comes via the OTA update.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674286
Kernels and roms .
As said kernel is part of the firmware but you can change a kernel.

How to get Official JB Update (when it's out)

Hello
I just wanted to ask a question about the official jb update from Samsung.
I'm currently running a custom Omega ROM, if I want to change to the official Samsung JB, when it comes out, how would I proceed best?
I tried to find out how to revert to Stock, so I could just do an OTA update, but I don't have an original Stock Firmware Nandroid Backup..
I live in Switzerland and had a Swisscom branded Phone, which was not locked.
What do you think?
**EDIT**
or the leaked JB test firmware
You can find your firmware at sammobile.com. Just flash it with odin.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
If from OMEGA rom , do you want to go to a rom stock samsung , run before a nandroid backup and save the folder EFS , performs a wipe date , factory reset ,then after with ODIN flash rom stock samsung , if remains in boot-loop repeat a full wipe from the recovery ....
I would wipe phone and install JB as its a new OS not an update .
jje
there's still something i don't get..
i do still have the ota option on omega.. is the firmware seperate, which would mean that i would be possible to be on omega rom and have a stock firmware, or do i also return to stock rom when flashing the firmware?

No, because Omega is a costum rom,it's based on a stock firmware and kernel but, it's a modded firmware so you must wipe everything and flash with Odin if you want to go back to a Samsung Stock firmware.

Getting back 4.1.2

Hi to all,
I am newbee to android. After using HTC One V for few months I purchased Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 from UAE. It was running Jellybean 4.1.2 having Modem XXLS8. On a fine day for the requirement of built in call recording I rooted my phone and managed to install Omega Rom V23.
All went smooth. But next day I realised that Hindi fonts are not properly displaying and I made a big mistake to flash Omega Rom again. This time I stucked in BootLoop . Everything tried. Finally I gave up
I thought flashing back may work so I flashed available stock Gingerbird rom via odin. Now system is back running Stock Gingerbird Android with modem XXKI4. Then I tried to update GB to JB via OTA and Kies, But OTA and kies refused to update software.
Please give me any solution to get back my 4.1.2 version or tell me any idea to get Custom Rom Omega V23. Will it safe to flash Omega V23 4.1.2 directly on current 2.3.6 rom with Philz latest kernels?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Yes you can, you're gonna have to root it tho.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Thanks. Can I root present 2.3.6 Gingerbird and Install Custom Rom Omega v23 4.1.2 directly? Or I have to reinstall stock version 4.1.2 over current 2.3.6 Gingerbird?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Well, the latest CMW version might be better, is not mandatory to go 4.1.2 tho.

I am not getting it. Please spoon feed me. I will be in debt.
I tried following steps:
I download Omega V23 custom rom and kernel - PhilZ-cwm6-XWLSN-OXX-4.93.6-signed and placed it on SDCard. After going into stock recovery I applied Philz Kernel via Stock Recovery. But getting error in red-
E:Failed to verify whole file signature
E:Signature verification failed
Please give me any solution. I dont have enough previlage to post into Android Development Forum as I am newbee here.

I guess you did not make backup of your original ROM... i would recommend that you install ics first before installing jb or custom jb roms... you can get stock ones samfilmware.. when try installing omega ROM again make sure you back your ROM this time so will not start all over again if a problem occurs at any time had same problem bootloop because of the kernel that was installed just did a full wipe fixed it for me and reinstall over again

Yepp..You are not getting it. System is running GingerBread with Stock Recovery. I can make backup in CWM recovery only. But right now my problem is that Philz Kernel is not installing. It will give me CWM Recovery and it will root the device. Any solution for above error??
