xxlp2 Problem... Help ! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi there,
I have just purchased a Samsung Galaxy s2 UK unlocked from a friend, the kernel says 3.0.15-i9100xxlp2-cl57619 [email protected] #3 which i believe is a beta unstable version of ICS.
This version is very buggy i cant even add images to contacts, i have tryed flashing other kernels which just lock up the phone, plus i cannot upgrade this via kies "kies your device does not support software upgrading via kies"...
my question is what kernel do i need to flash onto this with either a stable ICS version or a stock gingerbread so i can update via kies...
Regards

Can I install Litening Rom v2.2 over my stock XWKE7
Good day all, I have a real nooby question regarding installing the Latest Lite'ning Rom V2.2 XXKG1 on my unrooted, brand new South African Vodacom/ Vodafone branded stock XWKE7 (out of box firmware).
Do I need to flash anything prior to flashing Litening Rom V2.2?
Or do I have install From the frst version and work my way upto 2.2?
I also can't seem to find Stock African Galaxy S II firmware anywhere - Would any XWKE7 firmware do?
I can find lots of info it just doesn't seem to tie up and all the various kernels and version numbers are making my head swim. Thank you in advance for any help

Yes - you have to start by flashing 2.0 - then you need to install the 2.1 update and then the 2.2 update.
Follow this to flash the 2.0 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
Then follow this to upgrade 2.1 and 2.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15643453&postcount=5041
Thank you very much for the fast and prompt response. I'm going to do as described right away. Thank you again.

firmware update
hi, first of all ask yourself if you actually want to stay with official rom - i would suggest to install one of the custom ones - im on Illusion-ICS v1.0.1 - XXLPB 4.0.3 - you can find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488063&page=5 - and then use a jig (i bought it from ebay for £1.50) to fool the tech support at your provider or samsung into thinking that you had never manually installed firmware so your warranty is still fine.
However, if you want to stick with official roms than check out this page - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950.
hope it helps...

Firstly very you so much for the reply, i tried download in there but the link i cant conntect to, would u have any other link i can go to?? thank you!!!
hmmm, strange, it also doesnt open for me now. Try going to google and make the following search without the @@ - @forum.xda-developers.com/[email protected]
Make a back up ;]]
Thank you!! I will try to download later.
Just wondering how do I flash u gave me that customer rom? is via Odin??
If you want to try flashing the original ones from the link above @@ then you should use Odin. If you want to install Custom Illusion ICS then you will need CWR (clockworkrecovery).

[Q] Difference between all JB updates?

Hi, just got an S2 I9100 which has
CSC: KOR
android 2.3.6
baseband:i9100xxki3
Build no:gingerbread.ax918
kernel:2.6.35.7-i9100zski3-CL603802
[email protected] #2
It is already rooted.
So now I want to update it to official JB. But I dont know which one should I flash via odin. There are so many jb firmwares for same regions.
i want to know a few things before i proceed.
1.what is the difference between very first jb update and the latest one?
2.My s2 has the emmc brickbug so is it safe to update to jb via odin and flash different roms later?
3.which method should i use to root it after update? ?
4.do gameloft and ea games work at max graphics on jb like they do on gb or they work at low graphics?
Answers to some of ur questions:
1.smoothness, updated google apps(u can check the changelog in the stock fw thread)..the latest one is lsw(uk) but i heard that it is sim locked or something, so u can flash lss!
2.not really sure
3.i used philz root after updating to jb..u can find it in the original dev section!
4.graphic intensive games work pretty smoothly!

Upgrading a S2 from 2.3.5 to an up to date firmware

I recently discovered that my friends' S2 still runs on 2.3.4 and told him to upgrade his firmware, but Kies (2.6) doesn't recognize the device and the OTA updates only brought him up one version (2.3.5 now...). Is there an easy way to upgrade the phone to 4.x in one in a single blow?

Hi,
If your friend's S2 is GT-I9100, then you can easily update his phone to the latest official firmware from Samsung.
Head on to this link, which covers everything from installing drivers to flashing the firmware: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/samsung-galaxys2-i9100-unroot-official-jellybean-firmware-460777
All the best,
Regards.
