Hi,
Like many others I've had issues with WiFi staying connected since using the jellybean leaks. I had the same with CM10, but if I go back to a stock ICS rom then it works fine. if I reverted back to any jellybean rom then again it will not stay connected.
For me the issue is fixed by change the security on the router from WPA/WPA2 auto to just WPA. With this it connects every time. If I set my router to use WPA2 then again it drops all the time, so it would seem that is has an issue with WPA2.
Maybe others want to give this a test to see if it works for them. Currently I am using DLH6 stock leak.
Maybe this has been posted elsewhere but I thought I would share my findings.
Cheers.
Not working for me. Wifi drops when I move away from the router

Confirmed here.
Im using a beta version of Omega v15 based on DLH6.
I could not connect to wifi no matter what I did.
tried router reboots, changing wifi channel etc.
The status when connecting showed:
- Authenticating (normal)
- Obtaining IP Address (normal)
- Saved, Secured (should show connected)
This repeats several times, before eventually the status shows
Network disabled. Poor connection.
I then tried configuring static IP
This time it connects for a fraction of a second then disconnects and instead of the message 'Network disabled. Poor connection', now it shows:
'Temporarily avoiding poor connection'
I then tried installing different kernels - no improvement.
The only solution that worked was configuring network as WPA only.

Have you tried to forget the network and add it again after changing to WPA?

Here's my fix go back to ics
I get absolutly no connection.. :crying:
From what I've read these tips might also help:
- Change WiFi channel to a free one
- Disable 5Ghz wifi on your router
- Disable 802.11n on you rrouter, just use 802.11g
Hopefully Samsung fixes these issues before releasing official 4.1.1
With the leaked JB stock rom my Wi-Fi works fine. However, with anything related to AOKP or CM10 I now cannot connect at all. It worked previously but something has changed in the last 10days to stop it. I flashed the leaked initial leaked JB stock rom and that's when the problems started when I went back to CM10.
I have a Netgear DGN2000, WNDR3700v2 and also edimax range extender. It prompts me for the password, tries to connect but then just saves the config without connecting. Tried with/without 5g, g only etc.. still no joy.

Use Odin to flash a stock ics Rom and that will fix the WiFi problems on cm10
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I tried all solutions that are mentioned here. But I always get disconnected when I move away. I'm at 100% ICS stock rom (updated through KIES today) and still not solved.
Going to bring it back tomorrow and hope to get a replacement or a fix by samsung.
IMO:
your modem changed when you flashed the leak Rom. Easy way to fix You must flash modem through or odin or cwm. or any stock ROM via odin.
(nothing to do with your WiFi router.)
Have you guys tried updating the firmware of your router?
no problems for me.
using Omega v14 (XXDLH4)
Baseband (XXLH1)
Connecting fine with (WPA, WPA2, WEP)
If the problem is with the modem guys, why not use another modem or the one previously used in stock ICS?

I have no idea. I just made that suggestion because I saw the other guys discussing using a different modem.
Anyways. The kernel I'm using is the one that came with OMEGA rom, which is the stock kernel that came with the LH4 firmware.
Just to say that this wifi 'speed fix' actually fixes this connection issue for me

Hi, I am also getting this problem. Have you tried flashing a stock rom through ODIN and then install CM9 or any other AOSP rom as suggested by Brian 6685. Does that fix the problem?

Hi
to begin I want to applogize if this question/problem has been asaked earlier but I gave up searching the forum or the internet.
I tried diffrent roms (GalaxyTask, Overcome, Task 650 and CM9) on my p7510 but It does not find my home wifi after flashing. However, when I use Stock or CM9 it recognizes my home wifi.
Has anyone a fix for that problem?
Can you give a little more information? What type of router (make + model)? are you using 2.4ghz or 5? wifi g or n?

I have a D-link 635 using wifi n.
The strange thing is that the tab finds my home network under the Cyanogenmod9 rom and stock rom but not under the Overcome, starburst or galaxy tab rom. This makes me think that it is not a router problem. I could be wrong tough.
I tried to set up the wifi manually but it did not work. I also tried to delete it from auto recognition before flashing a new rom. Still it finds many other wifi networks but not my home network.
Yeah, that's pretty weird. I'd post your question in task's thread; he's pretty good about figuring this stuff out. Also, I have to point this out: "CM9" is not available yet; what you have is the CM9 preview. Kind of has to be said so as not to confuse anyone with the real thing...
Try switching from wifi n to b or g (in your router configuration). Might bring you closer to a solution.
Also, you could try different channels to sort things out.
Wifi-Analyzer is a good app to analyse and fix Wifi Problems

I'm having wifi problems with my tab as well.
It worked fine with the stock rom. After I flashed task rom 10 the wifi range got realy bad. I mean bad like it only got 4 bars when standing right next to the router. In the next room, separated by a wall, it would got nothing. I did not change a thing in the router for months.
I thought it might be something related to HC 3.2 so I flashed the In Paris rom and the problem was gone. I might try another HC 3.2 rom to see if what happens but right now I'm probably going to wait for CM9 anyway.
btw my router is a asus rt-n56u

I´m currently on Overcome 2.1.1 (for 7500 3G Tab) and have no issue´s at all.
I can fully recommend it as a 3.2 ROM
Well my problem is that it does not find my home network at all. No matter which rom I flash except for the CM9 preview. I get a whole lot of other wifi networks but not mine. This makes me think that it is something that the rom does rather my router.
Change your router's channel plz.
Every router have 1-13 channels. It will be set to auto by default. Change it from 1-13, and you can find one to use.

Hi everyone! I am new to this forum. I have something to ask.
Currently I am having an Xperia Ray. Rooted. Boot loader unlocked. Running Ray Onium v7 GB with Aire Kernel v7. Everything runs perfectly without a glitch.
However when I update to ICS, both stock ROM or Cook ROM (Ray Onium v6 ICS, JJ ROM 2.5 and team Kang ROM), I find that my wifi is not useable.
I'm sitting about 1m away from the router, the signal is excellent but I can't browse the internet or go to the market.
I have tried both with 4.0.3 and 4.0.4. However when I connect to an open network, everything is fine. I'm using WPA2 encryption for my Linksys 54g router.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I have the same issue, everything perfectly on GB.
Sent from my naughty Xperia Ray.
I've been having similar problems with my wifi since updating to ICS. My problems are a little different though. WPA2 network here, the phone can see the network fine and it connects quickly, I can browse and stuff just fine, but every so often the network just /disconnects/. Usually it'll reconnect a few seconds later, but sometimes I have to open the wifi settings screen before it'll reconnect, and sometimes it doesn't reconnect at all. When it doesn't reconnect at all, the settings screen says my network is either out of range (it picks it up the moment I hit Scan) or had an "authentication problem", and I have to manually connect to the network.
Kinda weird and very frustrating, because sometimes I'm connected for hours without a problem, and sometimes I'm getting disconnected every few minutes.
When SE released their alpha and beta ICS roms, the wifi either didn't see my home network, or it saw my home network but couldn't connect, instead just infinitely cycling through "Connecting, Disconnected, Not In Range, Connecting"
Same problem happens regardless of what kernel or ROM I use, it happens in CM9, AOKP and every other ICS ROM I've tried. :/
A similar problem it seems...
When I want to download an app via Google Play simply it doesn't start. I touch back button and try to download it again and voila! The same fast wireless..
But it simply does not start at first try. Not only Google Play downloads but also all other internet using applications do that strange behaviour.

I have two Rays at home... one on GB and one on ICS.... the ICS one has the same problems, I think switching your wifi router to WEP seems to help and so is changing to B from N.. but then you lose higher speeds and security... but that does seem to help. On the other hand the GB ray has no problems whatsoever....
Hope this helps someone figure out a solution

Your welcome. I just also flashed official Nordic 4.0.4 from here... And my router has something called " protected mode", that is says helps for that- if WiFi signals are too many around. Try installing WiFi analytics from google play... It's free-
use a free WiFi channel.
Turn on such protected mode if you can
I also activated something called "intellistream" that prioritizes streaming in WiFi.
So far, it's going well. This way I kept the 801n and WPA security.
Before this, I was sitting 7-8 steps away from the router and kept dropping connections.
Hope it helps.... No expert here.... Joined the forum for the same reason...
tomorrow after work ill test as much scenarios as possible. it cant be router related since i have the same issue with 7 different routers. 0 problems with GB, always the same issue on ICS.
connected solid and sound, no dropping in signal, but no internet flow whatsoever.. this is the only thing that keeps me on GB -.-
Any progress?
Yeah same problem with me.
There's something wrong with ICS Rom, that needs to be fixed
Replace file
Unzip and copy this file in /system/bin (replace with original). This should fix the wifi connection. You will need root for this.
So far, so good

So, i've had wifi issues with my galaxy player 5.0 US model ever since I got it. I thought rooting it and flashing a new kernal and custom
rom would fix it but i've still been encountering the same issues. After I connect to wifi (anywhere) It will randomly turn itself off and then back
on and reconnect, I've set up a static ip on the device and that fixes the problem, but the static ip only seems to work when I connect at my house
and my girlfriends, anywhere else I have to turn off the static ip and just deal with the wifi problem. Is there a fix I don't know about?
Well, this was a well known bug talked about during the first few months of the galaxy player. It was decided it mainly had to do with Belkin routers. One fix for some was to change the router timout. You would need router access to do so.I think it was fixed in the 2.3.6 update. If you could find a custom Rom based on 2.3.6, that might solve it.

Yes and try to re-flash the custom kernel if you use a ROM without a kernel inside (after the first installation), always by CWM; I solved this problem with 2.3.6 GB custom rom based or 2.3.6 stock ROM + custom kernel.
Me Too !!
I too had the same problem with the stock SGP 5 and my Verizon FIOS ActionTec router. It works fine with a static IP address, and without it, it would drop the connection. Changing the router timeout did not work for me. I've concluded that certain devices don't play well with each other. In my case, it was the SGP5 and Actiontec router. By the way, my girlfriend's IPAD has the same problem (and same solution) with the Actiontec router, so it's not just a problem with the SGP5.
I have just flashed the following rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1692201. This is a WIFI ONLY device, no network operators or anything like that...
The flashing process went smoothly and all seems well, except that when I connect to a wireless access point, I don't get an internet connection. It connects to the wifi ok, but no internet.
If I go back to my nandroid backup the internet works fine. There aren't any posts in the rom thread about this issue so I suppose it must be an issue with my device rather than the rom. I assumed flashing the rom would change all my settings to those of the rom, so I don't understand how this can be so.
Any thoughts??

I'm the developer for this rom and I've never heard of any issues like this before. Do you have a player 5 or player 4? Does everything else work fine? It might be worth doing a wiping data, cache and dalvik cache and then re-flashing the rom.

Hi Supermaster34, thanks for the reply, yes, I have spent a fair amount of time reading through your thread and came to the conclusion that this was an as yet unseen problem.
I have a player 5 international. I have reset and wiped everything there is to reset and wipe and I have reinstalled after trying this too.
Before flashing your rom I was/am using eryigits gingerbread rom and I replaced the wpa_supplicant file so that I could access ad hoc networks. I don't know whether this could be relevant or not.. I would have thought that flashing would replace that sort of thing anyway but I thought I'd mention it just in case something not flashed is affected by doing that.
Hope you have some cunning ideas....

I also have a player 5 international and I can't seem to recreate the problem. Maybe the issue is with your player but I doubt it. Try flashing my CM9 rom (link is in my signature) to see if wifi works with that. The wpa_supplicant you replaced would have been replaced with the ICS one upon installation. If you downloaded the rom from the team remics website then the download may have become corrupted for some reason. It might be worth re-downloading and flashing again.

Ok, I'll try re-downloading and I'll also try the CM9 rom... I'll do that tomorrow and then post back here when I find out what happens...
Until tomorrow then..........
Ok, I've tried your CM9 rom and it's the same.. It connects to wifi but there is no internet
Trying the freshly downloaded remics rom now...
No joy...It's the same
What could it be? It must be something on my player that doesn't get flashed (on the internal sd card maybe?) which interferes with the newly flashed files regarding internet... right???
Oh, when I go to wipe dalvik cache I get 'E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]' Then I click 'yes - wipe' and it says it is wiped. Is that normal?
restoring my nandroid backup........ and........
Yep, internet is usable again....
What's going on?
I have now also tried with this cm9 rom : Paranoid Android
and I get the same result!!!
Someone else in that thread seemed to have the same problem but no-one replied to his message.
So it's not your roms Supermaster34. It could be cm9 or maybe ics itself, but what is different with my player compared to the hundreds of other people who don't seem to be having any problems?
Formatted internal sdcard and still no joy.....
could it be something to do with the router or encryption being used (I'm on a work network so god knows what's going on at that end of things)? gingerbread can connect through it but cm9 can't? I need to try another wireless access point...
when i had cm9, i only could get internet on my home network, which was secured.

I think it is far more likely to be a network thing.. Something about my work network and your school network has a quirk that cm9 doesn't know how to deal with. My work network is secured with wpa2, so it probably isn't an encryption issue.
We also have an access point secured with wep which I'll try out tomorrow (same internet coming through it though)..
I'll also try cm7 and see if that connects and I think I'll try flashing a fresh gingerbread as well which should work seeing as my nandroid backup works (just to check it isn't a flashing issue or something).
Next week I'll have access to another access point with a different internet connection (which I'm actually in control of myself), I'll try that one out too...
My oh my, so much to do..............
I dont thing it has anything to do with rom..i have similar problem on another device ..my mein internet is over 3G (HSPA+ i have unlimited data) so i use tehtering on android phone to give internet to my other devices, and it works fine for SGP 5.0 ,laptop ,pc and S7 tablet..they all see conection and internet works..BUT i bought nexus 7 and on my huge disapoinment it could not connect to internet on same connection (and i dont have other) ,consider nexus 7 is wifi only i did not what to do,it sees connection but no internet, then i try different roms all the same no internet.
So i connect laptop via usb tehtering to android phone and via program called connectify create infrastructure hot spot on laptop and then nexus 7 net works ,but my laptop must be on.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Well, I tried flashing a fresh gingerbread and internet works fine (as it does on my gingerbread nandroid backup)... So it isn't a flashing issue
I also flashed CM7 and internet works fine....
So it seems this issue is a CM9 issue (as it appears on all variants of CM9 that I can find).
From all the evidence, it seems to me that there is something about the internet connection at my work that CM9 cannot deal with. It is not a wifi issue as such, as I can connect to wifi, I just get no internet connection.
I haven't actually checked to see whether I am able to connect to a different internet connection elsewhere, I'm assuming I will be able to as hundreds of others seem to be having no problem at all with CM9. I'll test this next week when I have access to another connection.
I work at a school, so just as iurnait a couple of posts back, it is a school network that is giving me problems and school networks can have all sorts of quirky filters etc attached to them to 'protect' the students from who knows what. For example I know that some websites are blocked by open DNS on my work network - is there an issue with CM9 and this sort of filtering?? I have no idea what else there is on the network here as the network admin is rather unfriendly and unhelpful.
DZonikg: it seems that your problem may be different, as mine is rom dependent and yours isn't.
It's a shame as I was really looking forward to my Ice cream sandwich!!
maybe this is related to the brand of router used?
it seems like some unsecured locations work while others dont. i was at a supermarket and i connected fine but i couldnt get it to connect at another place.
Mmmm-) what brand of router is at your school? i have netgear at home and i can connect.
or it may do with the channel of the router. i dont have cm9 on my device but try using WiFi Analyzer (Play Store) to see what channel your connection is.
I had this issue with both paranoid and supermasters cm9 Rom.
Actually I sent you a pm supermaster back in sept about this issue. The device would connect and the wifi icon would show the bars but they would be greyed out.
Since I don't have the post count to post in the dev thread I kept checking back on the threads to see if anyone one mentioned it but the guy in the paranoid thread got ignored and that thread seems dead. And no one mentioned it in supers CM9 thread. So I just said fug it and slapped on my stock ROM.
Hang on a minute...... I've got internet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whatever happened???
I was trying to update my media library but apparently you cant with ICS and so i had to 'clear data' in the media storage app so I did this and rebooted... and as if by magic I was connected to the internet. When I rebooted I was already connected to wifi (but obviously with no internet connection).
Since then I've got everything set up and done a nandroid backup rebooting again and I still have the internet.
I really don't get how doing this would have solved the problem...but something has solved it... Maybe something changed on the network...who knows....??
Im away from work for a week from tomorrow, so I won't know if it is still working until then.... I'll tell you if I can still connect in a week....
Try McDonald's a dunkin donuts if you live near one. They have free wifi if you want to test it out. If you saying is working I'll give it another shot.

I had a good connection for a couple of hours and then it just stopped! I cleared the media storage app again and rebooted and I have internet again!!!
I still can't believe it can be a fix - it must be an odd coincidence... If it works one more time I'll believe it...
Well it happened again but I'm afraid to say that no matter what I did I couldn't get the internet to connect again, so it must just have been a coincidence...
The good news is that I am now connected to the internet on another connection (far away from work) and have had no difficulties whatsoever. So I'm certain that it is some quirk with my work network. Although the fact that I can connect to it with gingerbread suggests that rather than it being a network problem, it is an incompatibility with ics or cm9. Can someone fix it please?
One quirk of CM9 on Galaxy Players is that it has MUCH poorer wifi reception than Gingerbread. If your wifi connection was at all weak, you'll get connection issues with CM9.

I don't get Wi-Fi connection issues at all,I just get internet connection issues. The signal is fine and it connects to the wap with no problems at all.
Hello all, I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 with Stock 4.1.2 unrooted and baseband version I9300DXEMB1. The problem I have is when I try to connect with my home WiFi from my room, it says Authentication Error Occurred. I have to be directly infront of the router then it'll connect and allow me to load webpages.
If I stand in front of the router and connect, It will get connected without any problems but as soon as I return back to my room or any other place that is more than 3 feet away from the router, it wouldnt load any webpages or anything that requires an Internet connection. Then when I toggle WiFi off and on again, the authentication error occurred problem will be back. It's like my phone can only connect and load webpages when it is 1cm in front of the router. Does anyone here have any suggestion on how to help me? I'm pretty sure that it is not my router's problem because my computer and Galaxy S4 in my room can connect just fine and load webpages just fine. I've tried searching the Internet for solutions but have not found anyone with the exact same problem with range/signal strength hence I started this thread.

Rooted the phone and installed Siyah kernel. Problem still persist. Any other possible fixes? Continued my search and found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/galaxy-s3-wont-connect-to-wifi-t1779535 Same problem with what OP is experiencing. (Post #10)
I once had the same problem and fixed it by deleting the .cid.info file in /data.

I did the exact same thing and still no improvement. Could it be a hardware issue?. I've tried rebooting router, forgetting network, turning off Wifi power safe mode in *#0011# menu but to no avail

Suggest wipe phone install stock rom and test .
If it connects to other routers/ wifi its your router a problem .
I had these kinds of problems with two stock ROMs, do not remember the exact versions, but when I upgraded the problems were gone. That was while using the exact same Yank kernel, so it doesn't seem kernel related. It is a very annoying bug though! But upgrading ROM will fix it, I know for a fact that GNA5 doesn't have this bug.
Have you tried using wifi on other places on the same phone?

From that thread, someone posted a nice solution:

Since I saw that lots of people have the same problem. I like many other, I have done everything said here, and all over the web.
Here is what I did to fix my problem...
1 - Check if you have any special char on the wi-fi SSID like "!,@,',ã,á,~,ç,ã" etc...
and Remove it.
2 - On your router check if you have ip adress ranged configured like: 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.150, and change it to the wide range: 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254
This two steps solved my problem after I have tried everything stated here and over the web
I just registered to share this and hope to help someone.
Sorry for my bad english...

The thread also highlighted using static IP to solve the issue.
Plus, you can try to change the router transmission channel to a lower number and see if it works.

Thanks for the reply, hard resetted the phone back to everything stock and tried 2 different stock firmwares but still no luck. I also went to format /data and cache in stock recovery just to make sure but still same problem.

Yeah, I'm suffering from OCD and just to make sure the bug doesn't carry over to the next ROM i flash, I formatted my phone through recovery before flashing the .tar firmware in ODIN. And I tried 2 different firmwares and still same thing. Now on MF6 stock 4.1.2 and trying to avoid stock 4.3 because of Knox bootloader.

I've tried other Unsecured networks around my area. Same problem. Very sure it is not my router problem as my other phone and computer can connect just fine and even getting at least 20mbps speed. This S3 can only connect when I'm physically beside the router.

Thanks for suggestions, I've also tried Static IP and checked my router settings and that it doesnt have those punctuations in the SSID and also the start and end IP is pretty wide from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.253 (I don't think that 1 difference from .254 could make a difference could it?) I'm really starting to believe that It's a hardware issue. I'm probably going to contact a person to diagnose the phone tomorrow. Maybe it could be a malfunction of the WiFi chips in the phone.

If there is authentication error then that means that the phone can detect the wireless network so the hardware seems ok. Did you try to change the router channel? And even try changing the transmission from a/b/g/n to "G only" or "N only".

That's exactly what I thought too. Why can't it connect if it can detect the network? And I've since tried changing channels only for it to return to the same result, authentication error. And my router settings do not have an option to change the radio type. I can't remember exactly where but it might be Android forums or something (read too many different forums over the past few days) and this guy said that maybe it was some power management failure thing. I'm not an expert with hardware and can't provide any explanation or theory. Maybe there's some other component that manages the power to use that'll enable the phone to receive data from the router and that thing malfunctions while the main wifi chip still works that explains why I can still detect wifi networks?
[Edit]I'm also thinking that maybe because this Imaginary power management component inside the phone is malfunctioning/not receiving enough power, that's why when im in a room different from where the router is, i cannot connect because the phone isn't receiving enough power to validate the data from the radio waves and also because when Im standing beside the router then can load webpages just fine because the Signal strength is high and probably the radio waves from the router is emitting high energy so the power management component doesn't require as much energy to receive data compared to when Im in my room. Something like the router shouting and your phone needs a certain amount of energy to hear the voice from the room otherwise you cant but if you're standing beside it you can hear it no matter what. (This is just my theory and what Im thinking the problem is. It is not an explanation but just my opinion. This information could be totally wrong for all I know.)

@Hazerm, can you try WPS setup if your router supports it?
On your phone: Settings > WiFi > Menu > WPS
Rebooting the router is also recommended. Maybe you can also try changing the security on the router to WPA/WPA2

Yep, WPS is supported and enabled on my router. Use it cause I was too lazy to retype my password everytime i flashed a firmware on the phone haha. And same thing. when I try to connect using WPS, the phone (in my room or any location 10cm or more away from router) doesnt react even after pushing the button on the router. But if I were to stand beside the router, WPS works without any problems.

Ok try using airplane mode when you are standing at a distance and check if the wireless connection continues.

No improvement, unfortunately The progress bar just crawls to the end and the phone just says WPS failed. This was approximately 1 meter away from the router, I have to be less than 1 metre from the router to get a connection. Btw, router was rebooted several times and Security has always been WPA/WPA2-PSK, not very interested in changing the security to other types like WEP. Just not very trustable

I can understand that this is very frustrating for you. Believe me, I've had issues with phones and wifi
Ok, so I found 2 short threads that you could read:
Link 1
Link 2
Summary:
- try the steps in Link 1
- Change phone frequency from 2.4ghz to 5GHz (had this option in Omega ROM 4.3-based)
- 2 users report that the issue is fixed in CM9 (or even other CM roms)
- Might be a mainboard issue after all.
PS: Surprisingly, some of the people reporting the issue have used Omega rom in the past and faced the issues since then. (I didn't have any issues though so I cant blame the rom)

Unfortunately I'm not the original owner of this S3 so I can't be sure if the previous owner flashed any custom ROMs.

Don't worry about Knox, it is not present in 4.3, so you can just flash GNA5 and be done with it! I do recommend Nova or Apex launcher though, way smoother!
For all the other people here, this is a known bug with certain routers that are not 100% compliant with the WiFi standard and therefor do not confirm the handshake. I have had these problems with certain ROMs as well (cannot exactly remember which ones) and after flashing another ROM (at the moment I am on GNA5) Samsung fixed it, while it is not even their issue, the issue/bug lies within the routers that pose problems.

Really? Because with the Galaxy S4, late 4.2.2 firmwares and all 4.3 and above firmwares had new Knox bootloaders which means no turning back to old 4.2.2 ROMs and also the Knox 0x1 flag which to my knowledge is not resettable at the time of this writing.
