Upgrade to JB - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Can i update to JB the 29th when samsung pushes the update while i haven't updated to latest firmware on ICS.
I don't want to update to latest ICS firmware and just want to upgrade to JB.
Press thanks if i helped!

You don't need newest ICS to upgrade. Kies downloading full firmware. Odin also uses complete ROM. FOTA, if will be available, will autodetect your current ROM. Must be stock ofcourse.

It probably will not be available the 29th for everyone, it wil be september/october (depends on where you live) for must users.
You off course need to be on stock rom with a stock recovery (so no cwm recovery) to install the OTA.

Thanks for reply.

Provider Rom

Hi all,
I am from Singapore and i want to revert my GA to its stock rom. Just like how i can update using Kies.
Should i use the samfirmwares - Under provider Rom?
Regards
Don
Dude you are right. Use the files from samfrimware.com and use odin to flash it back 2.2.1
Thanks for your reply.
I flashed it back to 2.2.1. As i was previously on VillianRom, I downgraded to Asia Firmware - S5830ZTKB2.
But now when i start KIES, it says this device cannot be updated.
??
Basically I just want to return to my stock rom so that i can update through kies. Anyone can help please?

[Q] Need Guidance on reseting to update

Hey guys,
I've been mucking around with my galaxy moving between some builds but ultimately have decided to go back to stock for now and wait for 4.0.3 to come out through my carrier.
Anyway, I restored from a CWM recovery image I had and out of curiousity went to update my phone as it's only at 2.3.3. Unfortunately it won't let me update OTA and won't let me update on Keis.
Now i've seen a few threads that say it should be updatable, a few that don't and a few that say both. I just need an information on what I need to do to be able to get the update to my phone and also to prepare it for the eventual ICS update.
Thanks in advance.
- Josh
Restore Stock Carier from ODIN
Try restoring your carrier's stock ROM using ODIN.
The OTA update is carrier specific and might not work if you're not using the specific ROM provided by your carrier.
You can find a list of (some) official ROMs here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Or you can google for it if it's not on the list.

Hey, if you want to make the ''most safest mode'' , wipe and etc... Then you should flash via odin the latest ICS Poland Unbranded XEO, then when you're go in the first configuration of software update you will get the Jelly Bean OTA. It's very easy.
Link for ICS POLAND : http://www.hotfile.com/dl/168356155/759deaa/I9300XXBLH1_I9300OXFBLH1_XEO.zip.html
OR you may want to flash the already available Poland Jelly Bean firmware, and a full wipe and factory reset is recommended. The link: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/173577508/3316be3/I9300XXDLIB_I9300OXFDLI1_XEO.zip.html
Tell me the way you choose and if it worked fine. :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Updating rom or firmware/radio from 1.13.651.1 to 3.15.651.13? Rooted & S-OFF

[Q] Updating rom or firmware/radio from 1.13.651.1 to 3.15.651.13? Rooted & S-OFF
Hi XDA,
I just obtained LazyPanda S-OFF (after being rooted and HTCDev Unlocked/S-ON since I got my phone)
I'm still on my original rom and firmware my phone got shipped with, never took an OTA (thank god)
I have Titanium Backup PRO, and TWRP v2.4.1.0 (the latest version)
(I read that someone had to downgrade TWRP to v2.3.3.0 to install the newest JB rom - took him 3 hours of trying with TWRP v2.4.1.0 until he tried v2.3.3.0 and it worked) - Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045929&page=62
Has anyone successfully flashed the new JB rom with the latest TWRP?
AND
If I flash the odexed rom (from -viperboy-) will that include the firmware & radio? If not, should I flash the firmware that won't update/include the newest HBoot? (or do I need the new HBoot?) I'm on LazyPanda's 1.12 (v1.12.xxx - the modded version) Or because I'm S-OFF it doesn't matter if HBoot gets updated/overwritten because I'll still retain root & S-OFF?
I just want to know what files to install, and how to install them properly (please include links and good directions) I already watched wwjoshdew's videos on YouTube.
Thanks in advance, zmag
Roms do not include firmware/radios.
The firmware updates are found here READ thru the last 10-20 pages before you flash any firmware...better to be safe then sorry.
When you are ready to flash use the Full Firmware
There is no need to update your hboot.
I have all my firmware updated including the touch panel drivers and I can use twrp 2.4.1.0 but if you update the touch panel drivers you can ONLY use roms based on 3.16. In order to flash a 3.15 JB rom you would have to flash the older touch panel drivers and use an older version of twrp AFAIK
Re: [Q] Updating rom or firmware/radio from 1.13.651.1 to 3.15.651.13? Rooted & S-OF
You can update firmware from my thread by flashing the latest (3.16) firmware.
As far as ROMs go, with TWRP 2.4.1.0 you won't be able to flash 3.16-based ones with an outdated update binary. If you want a 3.16-based ROM, you can flash MeanBean, or my stock rooted.
If you want to flash a 3.15 base ROM, that should be no problem.
Thank you for the heads up guys!
So I'm going to update just the firmware/radio for now: (with this file) PJ75IMG_Jewel_3.16.651.3_firmware_extended.zip - correct? (Sorry just making sure)

Yes, that is correct.
Thank you for guiding me through this captain throwback, I _finally_ did my first firmware update and everything works great.
I'm still on the original rom, until I decide if I want to update to JB (the touchscreen drivers are what's making me nervous to be honest)
All in all, thank you! I'll read through your thread and direct any further questions there if necessary!
So if I want to install MeanBean, and update the Firmare to 3.16, I can flash MeanBean first, then update the Firmware, correct?
I am on the stock firmware, running the stock OS, and have not taken any OTA's. Is there an issue with flashing the most current firmware, or do I have to "step up" by flashing older firmware updates in sequence until I get to the most current?
Thanks

As long as you use the firmware zips from my thread, you can flash the latest firmware with no problems. The order of flashing ROM versus firmware shouldn't matter.

help me update to JB 4.3 with root device

I have galaxy s3 with frimware 4.1.2 with root device..and i want to update to jelly bean 4.3 offical android..and i use ota app..its say my device dont have permission..how can i update my phone?
Flash new firmware with odin or cwm, ota doesn't work on modified phones.
Apparently kies will still update it, but I've never used it myself.
Or flash your original saved firmware and get OTA.
