Speaker crackling - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Anybody else having problems with the speaker crackling on certain songs or in certain games? It sounds like a blown speaker but it is only certain songs or games that do it everytime while the others sound great every time.

Audio issues are often the source, not the device...
we have very few audio related threads, so my guess is crappy source. Unless you have changed players, or roms...g

You are right about the source but I don't understand why the music from games would be this way. I did recently install poweramp.

It's possible that the audio format of the game, is not fully supported by the player.
I suggest trying a different player to confirm this.
If the result is unchanged, we may need to explore the frequency ranges being accessed and utilized by the device.
I suppose it's possible that the source audio is being played at a range beyond the capacity of the speaker.
A good headphone set should give us the answer to that ....g

The background noise of vibrant

Hello, did anyone find that the background noise of vibrant is very clear, when using headsets.
If you want to have a test, I think you can do as fellow.
1. Find a quiet environment, plug in your headsets
2. Open music player, turn the volume to 0
3. Play a song, you'll hear the background noise immediately
4. If stop the song, the background noise hold on for several seconds, then disappear.
What's the cause of this? Driver or hardware design? or just software.
So did anyone have some idear for solving this problem?
I have no background noise, try different head phones, maybe they are the problem.
I've heard it with iems in silence, same as what you described.

I use te headset comes from tmobile, factory headset.
Which headset are you using? and also rom and kernel.
I tested in several kernels and roms, all have this question.

no, noise does not come from mp3. I use musicplayer just to take a example.
the noise comes when the dsp has outputs,and disappears when the dsp has no outputs
I am pretty sure you are hearing hardware static noise from the audio circuit. The sound quality of the headphone amp in the galaxy phones is better than most HTC phones, but sadly still falls short compared to an iPhone and many dedicated mp3 players. The static is even more evident with higher sensitivity headphones like the ultimate ears tripple-fis and the like.

[Q] HTC Touch Pro 2 Headphone (Music) Volume level

So I've been trying to figure out why it is that my Touch Pro 2 which I am just now getting into using as a music player (late bloomer I know) has such a LOW volume level with the 3.5mm headphones (using the mini-usb adapter that it CAME with). It seems that the volume level is only absurdly low on items played with HTC Music and Windows Media Player. Other apps I have tried, such as nanoGroove and ICYGroove seem to not have this volume level issue, meaning that it's loud like I want it to be without distorting to nonrecognition.
I've tried hacks and other apps that claim to make a big difference, such as Advanced Configuration's ability to turn on the HTC bass/treble/3D sound boost, which ends up with major distortion. And "Audio Booster" which does make some improvement on HTC Music but not nearly to the level that I hear music from nanoGroove and ICYGroove on.
So the question at this point I guess is, is there any way to get around this or safely and sanely amplify the volume level for music from mp3s? nanoGroove and ICYGroove are both kind of questionable because the sound data comes from an external source (the internet) so I have no idea if they run it through some level amplifier to begin with and that's why it sounds better, or if it's the program itself that is piping it through the sound system differently.
The only other alternative I can think of at this point would be to re-encode my mp3's with a higher volume level, but given my diverse music tastes and frequency of shifts from one artist/genre to another that would end up having to re-encode pretty much everything on a regular basis which I would really rather not have to do. Not to mention having "phone versions" of all my music..
If anyone can recommend something that would either clear this up so it made sense, or just replace the HTC Music/Windows music players in general with something that does not have this problem or an easy and sane workaround, that would be hugely appreciated.

[Q] Bluetooth Audio Delay

I know there are many BT/Wifi problem threads but even with wifi disabled and running a sync test file from the internal storage I have a 400ms delay when using Bluetooth headphones. Is this a sign of a defective unit or is there fix or a possible future OTA patch?
The delay does seem to get a little worse when there is heavy wifi usage. I love my prime despite other minor glitches, but this one is really bugging me.

Well I have had many a bluetooth audio device and it is more the exception than the rule for there to not be any streaming "lag".
Your issue is likely caused by the headphones and not the TP. Try another BT receiver (i.e. BT Speakers, or your computer, etc) and try another BT Source (i.e. phone or ipod touch).
I've used the headphones with several other BT devices with no lag. I can try to whip together another receiver to test.
I've always had a slight lag with Bluetooth audio. My Prime, Nexus One, and my Cowon S9 all have it, so it's not exclusive to the Prime or Android. Kinda lame, but it is what it is.
Every phone/BT device I've had that streams audio via A2DP generally always has a lag. I know this because I have movies playing in my car sometimes and to make things work, I have to offset the audio by x amount of seconds to ensure everything is synced.
Basically, it's perfectly normal.
My evo 4g & evo 3d never seemed to have any lag, but I know BT is not perfect. I use MX player because I like the UI on tablets, but video player would you recommend to be able to set the audio delay?
I plan on trying one of my plantronics headset with the prime soon , the speaker is definitely not that loud.
If anyone could suggest a media player that allows you to set the audio delay/offset, it would be greatly appreciated. I've tried a few different players and can't find one that has this feature... anyone?

Are you running Honeycomb, or Ice Cream Sandwich.
Also, any idea if this is for s/w decoding or h/w? (does it make a difference for you?)

Funnily enough, I've seen audio streaming lag in every scenario including external bluetooth speakers, bluetooth in car, prime, phone, but there is absolutely no lag when pairing my bluetooth headset to my prime or phone.
I guess it really varies, but audio lag via bluetooth is nothing new.
This was asked earlier in this thread but with no answer. Does anyone know of a video player that has an adjustable video/audio delay to compensate for bt delay? Or can anyone who has not got a delay when playing through bt headphones say what make of headphones they use? Thanks.

I use Jabra Halo's paired with dice player. I am streaming both avi and mkv from my NAS from esfileexplorer. It has also been fine using buble upnp to do the streaming. In all cases it says it is hardware decoding. I have another set of bluetooth headphones. I'll check these soon.

I have two bluetooth headphones, from nokia, the BH-505 (2.1) and a BH-501 (2.0). With my phone a LG Optimus 2x i have no lag at all. With the previous transformer (the first) i had no lag, Dice player included. On Transformer prime, with honeycomb i had no lag either, but since i upgraded to the ICS there's a lag with both BT headphones...
i've tried MX player and Dice player and both lag

It's frustrating that I can switch immediately from my Prime to my Razr Maxx, with the same source video and the same BT Audio device (Jambox) and have nearly-imperceptible lag on the phone, but the supposedly more powerful Prime lags behind almost a half second.

I've been researching BT audio lag quite a bit, because I game a lot. Latency for playing music means nothing. For watching video, well you can compensate (like with suggested with Dice player). But for gaming, lag is a big deal.
I've tried a ton of device combos. Everything, *EVERYTHING* I've tried has >400ms lag. $400 BT headphones (Zik, mm500x), with computers, laptops, running different OSes (win/linux), BT audio gateways/dongles, PS Vita, Samsung, HTC and Motorola smartphones; you name it. Lag is there every stinkin' time.
From what I can tell, it has to do with the default compression scheme used by A2DP (SBC something). The delay is the encoding and transmitting of that encoded audio to your headphones.
When reading posts about this, for those who report no lag, when I dig deep I find one of two things: Either they were just using music or video as their test case, or they /are/ playing a game, but with the /headset/ protocol. The headset protocol (not A2DP) is for when you're making calls. A call being a two-way interactive thing, you need minimal lag. The problem is that the audio quality for the headset protocol is horrible. It's optimized for human voice. Sure you can play game using it, with no lag, but it'll sound like hell.
Some have mentioned that BT 4.0 can help. First, I can't find any true BT 4.0 headphones. But, in researching this, it seems the main thing that BT 4.0 brings to the table is low-power consumption. BT itself is a lower-level communication protocol. What we're after here is a level or so up, in the BT profiles.
Finally, I found mention of a proprietary audio compression codec, by CSR, called aptX. It can compress high-quality audio more, will less loss, and does it fast. This appeared to be the answer. I now have a pair of Sennheiser MM500x BT headphones, which support this, and a phone that supports it too (Evo 4g LTE/HTC One X). No dice.
The problem I'm finding now is that there is two ways to utilize such a codec: a) you can compress that same quality audio down into almost nothing, so there's less to transmit to your headphones, which can minimize lag. Sounds like a winner, but...you can also b) use even higher-quality audio, which is a lot more data, and compress that down to about what you had before, then transmit it. So, the transmission takes the same amount of time (>400ms) but you end up with audiophile quality sound over BT.
Unfortunately, it seems that aptX was made for the latter. Audio professionals wanted BT to be able to be used for super quality audio, beyond what we typically see with A2DP's SBC.
And, that's where I'm at now. Googling for "low latency bluetooth audio for gaming" has yielded very little relevant information.
Apparently I'm alone in wanting to use BT headphones for gaming.

The rest of the time I would like the EQ to be perfectly flat, with no intervention at all. Is this even possible? I need to knock the treble way down for listening to music while riding and would appreciate it if it didnt apply to profile to my other bluetooth headsets used for phone calls.
i like using the stock music app or google play music. I do own poweramp but it didnt have this function.

I used a software called DSP Manager, but I don't see it in the Play store anymore. But if you search for DSP in Play store you should see some other ones that do pretty much what your looking for.

I don't see nothing illegal by doing so, hes just modifying the why the music sounds on the fly not permanently applying the modification. It's up to the consumer to regulate how he listens to the music.
No my concern was the listening to music while wearing the helmet. Not the changes to the phone it self. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

I use Volume+, on both transformer prime, and the evo.
it works great. Has seperate profiles for Handset, speaker, bluetooth,and headphones.
Unfortunately it wouldn't allow seperate settings for two seperate bluetooth devices though. Its just bluetooth in general.
Although, the way your headphones probably come up as media audio and a handsfree comes up as a headset device, maybe it would treat it differently, would have to try it out.

List of music players outputting to akm dac

An update of the music player i am using (AIMP for android, free) just release an update (v 2.60) with the ability to choose between opensl and audiotrack for the sound engine. In audiotrack, i'm pretty sure it is driving the akm dac 4490 inside my axon 7 (mine 2017G B06) : when i switch between super and normal in audio settings there's a blank and i hear clearly the difference.
I ve search for other players that can drive the axon 7 dac and i found :
- stock player
- neutron
- google play music
is it right ?

Hi, neutron player false positive I think.
Switching super HiFi and changing sound in player does not mean that it fully utilitize akm DAC. You will get better Sound on YouTube on any stream.

I've been using it on custom ROMs and my assumption is that it basically wires everything to the AKM DAC. That's because a) even in Youtube, Netflix and games the sound was clearly from the AKM DAC, and b) I'm on stock, was using Youtube without the patch and eventually felt so let down by the crappy shoebox sound that I downloaded it and flashed it.
Try it for yourself: download the flashable zip, put some music on YouTube (on stock it can't use the AKM DAC even by toggling the switch, that's why you should use youtube), then flash the zip and try again after it boots. There's no way around it, it's not placebo. It might sound worse for you if you have different cans or you want a different sound though

It allows the system sound effects like equaliser to affect all audio like how it was in KitKat. It's an option in ARISE and maybe default in Ainur (I forget, needs testing). This is just the function alone, it works well with the mod author's other audio FX installs.
I love Viper for tuning headphones for their individual Frequency Response with it's excellent graphic equaliser in V4A 2.3.4.0. Lowering output gain with it's advanced options seems to help lower Google Play Music so I can hear my game sounds higher, need to test this more to confirm. I find combining it's Speaker Optimisation with Dolby's surround with flat EQ produces the best speaker audio. Having tried most audio mods and effects on my old Z3C, keeping things simple with just these produces the best results. I'm yet to test a couple of mods that were incompatible with the Z3C and retest others on the Ax7. But as an audio purist and from experience, I don't believe any audio effects will improve audio rather than just modify the sound, unless they prove to retune the chip processing at a low level.
As Username suggested, have something like YouTube playing in the background and toggle the Hi-Fi to confirm a difference. It can be uninstalled by reflashing for system-based, or respectively via Magisk Manager, but TWRP backup in case. Audio isn't really something you can screenshot haha, it has to be on your device locally to be heard. This mod should be common knowledge by now for getting the most and expected out of an audio beast such as the Axon7 on stock.

Still seems troublesome on 704 alpha. Mine seemed ok but then started getting a fail error for hi res.
I just use Jet Audio as my default player with 32 bit enabled and AM3D plugin used. Sounds great.
By the way I discovered a conflict scenario when using the deep_buffer remover to allow the AKM DAC globally.
Whenever a non equaliser effect supported app (not GPlay Music or Neutron) plays any audio simultaneously over the top of another app's audio playing. The hi-fi toggle will no longer switch until audio is paused. This isn't typically a problem as Super mode is preferred and will continue to function when on headphones.
However it means if an audio track is playing on speakers and any non EQ supported app plays any audio causing the conflict, then plugging in headphones they'll be stuck on the Snapdragon DAC. The reason being that speakers use the Snapd DAC and plugging in without audio stopped continues the locked conflict where hi-fi won't switch to the set preference.
A simple workaround is to just pause/stop all audio and the hi-fi preference precedence will automatically function on resume. This can be done before or after plugging, it doesn't matter. To confirm this the hi-fi switch will then function immediately when changed.
This took me several reboots and testing various audio to pin the cause. The easiest way to tell the difference between the DACs is to turn up volume to a level that feels comfortably loud on Super, then whenever the SnapD DAC is in use instead the volume is noticeably not loud.
I haven't tested if a notification or ringer sound will cause the same conflict issue. Safer to just pause/stop all audio when starting headphone use in case of any previous audio having already caused the conflict.
