Hi people..
I have just unlocked my bootloader.. Can you please suggest ICS Roms for better and smooth performance than the stock Rom and the appropriate kernels for them!
And should I first install the rom or kernel?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
First kernel, then rom.
Head out to dev section and have fun in testing and finding which is best for you. Everyone have different opinions. But try aosp or aokp roms
try the new xperia pureness v3 its amazing, its still beta but its very good
You can try night elf kernel plus ka21.1 ics rom.

if u want smooth working phone install Polish Blood....
if u want customized with toggles and everything use AKOP,CM9
if u want stock rom use Spacious, smooth and light ICS
but if u want everything working perfectly & smoothly go back to a GB Rom -- codename_ei8ht-----a super rom by a super dev:good:
Get codename eight by emann... on gb..
Else for ics.. try otu whatever u can... i prefer aokp only.. and spacious by shradul..
Rest.. well.. not meant for me atleast..
I use Paranoid Hybrid based on Cynogenmod 9 unofficial version. It's heck of a ROM to start with. You get Cyno feel along with ICS 4.0.4 and also toggle between Tablet UI and Phone UI. It's smooth, fast and gives what you want. You can also use variety of Themes available for Cynogenmod. Please use FXP Kernel.

Though I agree that the rom is excellent, I would stick to 20.1 until issues with the market, gallery, walkman etc is resolved. 20.1 just comes off as a more stable release and recommended for those who don't want to spend time configuring after install. Just my opinion..
A good tip might be to use titanium backup, which can also backup contacts and text messages. Since you often need to format when switching or updating roms.
Kernel & ROM Combo
I also have the Night Elf Kernel plus KA21.1 ICS ROM. No need to factory reset if unlocked and already running a previous version of KA. No issue what so ever on my SE Neo Mt15a

If that is correct then please help everyone else who have the cache problem.
how can u do that?
Greetings all, I have an Xperia Neo which was running Android 2.3.4 which was running moderately slow. Hence I installed CM9 custom rom.
To do so, I flashed boot.img file using fastboot command using command prompt on my phone and then booted my phone in CWM. Took back up of my current Rom and then installed CM9 rom and recommended apps zips. I tried this rom for 2-3 days and had awesome experience. But it lacks in camera quality, xloud, gesture input etc so I thought to have another custom Rom.
My friend recommended me Xperia Pureness by thilinaC. To have this rom on my phone, firstly I flashed Night-Elf's kernel named Alliance Lite v1.4 using fastboot command on command promp as instructed by ThilinaC. Then booted my phone pressing volume rockers and installed Xperia pureness build 11 and patch for my neo. Tested this rom too but disappointed with it's camera, video recording, 3d camera quality etc. Rest everything is smooth and fast but I am so obsessed with photography so can't compromise over image quality. My Stock rom's camera, video recording etc was awesome. These 2 roms just couldn't beat its quality so far.
Hence now i decided to go back to the old kernel and rom where I will compromise on speed of operation but I ll get excellent music, bravia, xloud and super image quality.
So please tell me, how can I revert my neo back? i would be very grateful to u all
Thanks in advance
Flash any Gingerbread kernel. Recommend: Night-Elf's kernel for GB, and restore the backup you took before flashing CM9.
Also if you want top start fresh, download a Gingerbread ftf file from the thread in General section by @Madfysh. Download flashtool and read instructions on how top use flashtool. After the flashing process, you'll have stock GB. I recommend flashing a custom kernel to gain root and download superuser from market and update binary

Even i wanted to revert back to original stock for all your same reasons..but i did a little research and found out a fix for the purple images problem in custom rom, for my NEO. I flashed that zip file in Pureness rom, and voila that purplish effect was removed. And for your info JJ rom uses stock camera, the original sony one! And all other features like XLoud, Bravia engine works in both the roms. For improved experience with camera recording you can flash the camera libs from the new ICS .587 fw..it increases the frame rate..
u can find the cam libs here....

and for the camera patch; sorry i am not able to find the link now..i have the downloaded file..and i am a noob on uploading the files. Please take the pleasure in finding the patch :silly:

Well, thanks buddy. And yeah Pureness has xLoud and Bravia but I think they are not like Stock rom. Stock rom's xloud is clear and loud and u can feel the bravia of stock rom surfing pictures. Other thing is Stock rom Music player is so nice, i like the voice quality than of pureness. Well, these custom roms are good if u want something new for temporary, else stock roms are best. one of the reason to switch over custom rom was speed, ya i got the speed in custom rom but lost many imp things like music, camera, xloud, bravia which are golden features of stock rom. Wow.
anyways, I made my stock rom fast by rooting, removing bloatwares and having link2sd awesome app. Now i m loving my phone voila
Hi all,
i am new to this great forum and owner of a neo v.
i used stock gb for a while, unlocked bl, rooted it and ****ed the system heavily up because i am a bloody noob
Then i tried CM9 and 10, Spacious ISC, Ice Cream Purness and Polish Blood JB.
Except for Polish Blood, i was not very happy with the performance of the Roms, but maybe that was just because i never updated to official ICS FW and still was on BB 64 (iirc, was for sure some 60ties BB).
Polish Blood is great (and exactly what i am looking for, clean, no imo useless fancy stuff) but as it is not maintained anymore and the last version is still too buggy for my daily use it is also not suitable for me.
Then i decided to go back to Sony ICS, so i relocked BL, flashed .431 FW via Flashtool (my SI is not on the list for .487) and did a seus repair.
So now i am on official ICS from Sony and the Performance is really bad (well CM9 or 10 was not really better tho).
As there is a whole Jungle of Roms out there, i wanted to ask you guys if you can recommend me a Rom/Kernel combination.
What i need/want:
- it should be fast, that is the most important thing, i really dont care about theme engine xy, window animations from jb or designs and wallpapers i won't use anyway. Tbh i preffer it if it's stupid simple and naked (i use OpenBox as WM on my pc...)
- Hdmi and 720p recording must be working
- as mentioned above, i like it simple and clean
Oh and i have two more question...as my neo v doesn't officially supports FW .487 would it be a problem to use a rom based on that fw and must i flash this FW prior to a custom rom based on .487? (in some install instructions i read that you have to do so, in some not...)
Thank you all in advance!

Hi, i'm newbie too, but I tried many ROMs, and I can say, that stock .62 FW with some modifications is really faster than all of custom ROMs, except CyanogenMod 7, but it doesn't have some features from stock (like keyboard, HDMI and music player), so 2.3.4 .62 is the best for performance and daily use) now i'm on .587 stock fw, it is fast too, but it have more bugs in games, than gingerbread. Happy flashing

Just for the record, there is an official update for my neo v to .587, although it is not written in the sony si number forum post and i did not get a notification on my phone...i just connected my phone to pcc because i wanted to check, if there is the possibility to backup /data and it told me there is an update available (adb backup don't work on my linux or windows pc...but that's another topic if it still doesn't work with .587, i just want to backup game data and stuff before i re-unlock bootloader).
So maybe there are other users here that could get an update and don't know about it...

that's good to know, i will try out a few more isc roms and if im still not happy, i think i will have a look at CM7. The keyboard is definitely much better than the one brought with CM, but i think it shouldn't be too hard to copy the APK over (if not, there are some good swipe-keyboards in the store), same for the music player, but i liked the one shipped with CM 9 and 10 anyway.
For HDMI, i read somewhere, that it is now working for the neo in CM7 but i have to check that again.

i used Pureness for quite a while (version 11) and want to give it another try, as i was not on .587 and BB 77 as ThilinaC writes in the install instructions.
The performance was good after reboot, but it slowed down quite fast. I know he writes that i should restart my phone once a day, but i don't like this as a permanent solution. With Polish Blood i used the phone for a week, and it was almost as fast as it was after the boot. But well the one is ICS and the other JB, i know (although CM10 was not really fast compared to Polish Blood)...
If JellySandwich and Ultimate HD become laggy after some time of usage too, i will go back to GB or just restart my phone every day

I tried it for a couple of days, and i must say the multitasking build is really fast, even after a few days without reboot. The only problem is, that i can't play games like temple run because it lags as hell (even with the games build), only after fresh reboot it runs smooth for a while. But as playing games is not so important, i might stick to that rom, just want to try out a few others before.
ah ok because I do not really react with the mobile games so no idea how to play it.
sorry for my english must always write only in German and translated via google leave.

Ok found JJ's Hybrid ROM and it is just awesome! Pure AOSP feeling without the bugs that non sony-based roms have (ie bad touchscreen) but also not the problems that many sony-based roms have (slow phone, contacts, etc apps). It is not as fast as some other roms and the app drawer lags sometimes, but it is still fast enough (after a few hours of usage, just after the first boot it feels laggy for an hour or two) and the pure aosp ui is unbeatable smooth imo.
So, great rom, i can just recommend it!

as an xperia play lover my self i stared to experiment with play..........
i flashed a lot of roms and kernels....got bricked about 20 times
today i discovered something interesting i found a way to speed up my ics roms without using adreno drivers.
know it is stable as GB
i DID was i took a baseband from a neo L rom and flashed it with flash tool and flashed my ics rom and kernel
once it booted i performed very well with games and can even play videos and run apps much smoother
here is how i did it fast i flashed neo L baseband (u can flash the baseband with out changing or re flashing the rom no factory reset s needed but i think it shoud be done)
and flashing kernel is must or it my not boot up
and i fogot to write is that it also increased my sound volume
dont belive me try for our self
know i am going to try it with neo l know baseband -84 current is 8x55A-AAABQMAZM-203028G-74
How Much Ram You Get????

Indeed it is like it.
CosmicDan is passing instructions for flashing the Neo L baseband either for MIUI Australia has a while. But don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying you copied him, just both of you had the same idea. I also was using the baseband 84 of Neo L with SlimBean (a JB ROM) without problems.
Also, basebands can affect radio communications, like wifi, bluetooth, phone signal and phone data connection as far as I know. That is, maybe you can feel a stabler device to every radio transaction, but general UI smoothness is not affected by baseband

Dude, again, don't misunderstand me.
I'm not saying this because you're a junior member, I didn't mean to offend you. I would say this to everyone because we are in a discussion space.
I did some research before my previous post just to confirm what I knew / thought. The baseband control radio communications. Our feeling is a subjective evaluation and I didn't feel differences in UI performance (either in radio performance lol) but I do believe the radio get better because the baseband is newer and it's something expected.

I'm not saying this because you're a junior member, I didn't mean to offend you. I would say this to everyone because we are in a discussion space.
I did some research before my previous post just to confirm what I knew / thought. The baseband control radio communications. Our feeling is a subjective evaluation and I didn't feel differences in UI performance (either in radio performance lol) but I do believe the radio get better because the baseband is newer and it's something expected.

ok then do a little more me be the baseband may also help in developing new roms
i tried many basband only neo, l, v, seems to mach xperia plays with out any error
you know that they have announced 2012 xperia phones (meybe neo l also) have been announced official JB so i am thinking making a JB rom with the basband of a JB official rom
Different basebands may change how the phone searches for a signal, maybe the baseband you use is more stable so the phone uses less resources while searching for a signal maybe? but baseband has nothing to do with performance, that is all rom and kernel side.

Maybe, I'm still on -64 baseband as its the stablest I've found but I plan on flashing Neo L Baseband -87 or -78 tomorrow to see if its any better.
Even if it is possible to get a performance boost from other basebands (IF they use less resources) then it would be minimal, and hardly noticeable.
To test TheCraigs assumption just turn the phone on airplane mode delete the running apps and see if performance has improved or just try the baseband out yourself

as an xperia play lover my self i stared to experiment with play..........
i flashed a lot of roms and kernels....got bricked about 20 times
today i discovered something interesting i found a way to speed up my ics roms without using adreno drivers.
know it is stable as GB
i DID was i took a baseband from a neo L rom and flashed it with flash tool and flashed my ics rom and kernel
once it booted i performed very well with games and can even play videos and run apps much smoother
here is how i did it fast i flashed neo L baseband (u can flash the baseband with out changing or re flashing the rom no factory reset s needed but i think it shoud be done)
and flashing kernel is must or it my not boot up
and i fogot to write is that it also increased my sound volume
dont belive me try for our self
know i am going to try it with neo l know baseband -84 current is 8x55A-AAABQMAZM-203028G-74
