Wifi or 3g?
sent from sgh-i777 using tapatalk
If you are constantly searching for Wi-Fi it is more battery consuming but 3g is more consuming if you are connected
Sent from my SGH-I777
3G consumes more battery while being used than wifi does. Especially on a less than perfect 3g signal.
Thanks. My 3g is always enabled and only getting 5 hours bat life on normal usage. I guess i have to try other options.

either your "normal" use consists of playing games or music for those 5 hours constantly.
or you have a serious issue.
Normal use consist of browsing, calls, sms, exchange email, tapatalk, pulse and a little of temple run.

you should check the known battery drainer thread.
You got issues man. I highly doubt its a network issue.
If your rooted I'd do a full wipe, and pay attention to what apps you install.
Thanks. Will check the thread

Yes. Switching to edge while on stand by will definitely save a little battery (or a lot if your 3g signal is bad). But it might end up draining more battery using edge while you're actually using the data (takes longer to do things like web browsing). What's your screen on time while only getting 5 hours of battery?
Yeah i noticed that too. Edge consumes less power than 3g. But one thing surprise me now, i turned off my packet data for 2 hrs and only got 1% battery drain. Im only using one push email and other apps set to manual refresh (fb,twitter, etc)

That's what your battery life should be. Go into about phone > staus with your 3g/4g turned on and check the dB rating. Anything above -90 is fairly poor.
Above as in -85 or -95? (numbers are representational)

I've gotten 4.5 hours screen time using hotwire's kang and around the same using fj's old cm9 build so it's more than likely a problem on your end.
However, I've noticed that gpsserviceprovider sometimes doesn't shut off completely after using gps and is and preventing the phone from going into deep sleep. Sometimes I would go to sleep with a 100 % charge and wake up with an 86% charge. Searched around and seems to happen on some cm9 roms. A reboot solves the issue though.
Your best bet is to install betterbatterystats and check your wakelocks. Probably some app causing it on your end.

You guys are all doing something wrong
Or really expecting battery life to last 10 hours and 5hours alone are on screen time alone
Sorry to burst your bubble but it won't happen
All these screen shots on the threads showing 8-12hr battery life times are from probably minimal usage... on a 8hr work shift with mediocre usage I get 50% left

I get about 5h screen on time while using it for 2 days. When i'm at home wifi is on - on the go mobile data is on. I always have 2g/3g auto enabled because i have very good 3g coverage here anyway. Brightness is mostly on "auto" as well
And its basically like heaven after my DesireHD that got to 2-3h max with custom rom/kernel and many battery saving tweaks, undervolting, having brightness set to minimum.

How do I get better battery life? I have done a lot of reading on wakelocks n I'm getting this result (battery life was much worse earlier. From the looks of your screen shot you have alot of things running in the background. Emulator, torrent and media servers drain battery quickly. I can get 2 days with my setup. Holy crap you have your screen on alot. What is your screen on time? If you are getting 4 or 5 screen on time, that isn't bad. Looks like your phone sleeps when screen is off which is good. I just think you are killing your battery with on screen time. Most people saying they get 1 to 2 day use don't have the screen on that much. I usually get 5 hours of screen time on 4g. However my 5 hour screen on time spands over 15 hours. Also depends on what you are doing when screen is on... Playing games drain vs checking email for example.

Real measurements are whatever YOU use the phone for. I don't get LTE at home so wifi is all I have. If you want a "real" test turn the brightness up all the way and steam videos. Your statement makes no sense.

After 5hrs I am at 60% remaining – LTE, Sync off, Falcon pro widget with hourly updates, 2 hours screen on with brightness @ 20%, about 1hour youtube, 1 hour music, 1 hour Streaming music (Tune in Radio & Pandora), 30 minutes browsing, 10 minutes calls.
GSam estimates 9 hours remaining with similar usage pattern.
My GS3 would have been 20% remaining by this time, very happy with the battery life.

Looking at some of your stats it seems like Chrome is a battery hog
It's used 15% of my battery so far compared to 26% for the screen being on 3 hours.
Im impressed with the quickness of the charging time. All results below consist of 40% of the time screen at full brightness, and 40% of the time at min brightness and overall average at about 60% brightness.
Drain:
Total use: 13h 52m
From 5% to off went about 25 minutes 4G streaming the Avengers from Netflix at min brightness. A rate of around 5 minutes to each 1% of battery life. (Image1)
Also impressed with the flatline seen here, that was sleep time from 3am to 9am, glad to see it consumed no power (coming from Thunderbolt so this is new for me) (Image2)
Charging:
Total Charge: 2h 20m
With the phone off, from 0 to 61% took 1 hour:laugh:, from 61% to 100% the phone was turned on and mostly idle with the display off other than missing a call and having to make a call - all on 4G took 1 hour and 20 minutes. (Image3)
I had about 4-5 hours of Pandora streaming during all this as well.
Wanted to embed pics but new here so cant post outside links. Overall happy with the battery and power managment with heavy use.

Do you have deep sleep app? Doesn't look like it, based on the dual draw for both mobile networks and WiFi. I'd say, given those results, you would only get better by adding a deep sleep option.
Overall just great performance and benchmark. Keep plugging away.

What you're seeing is me manually switching between WiFi on and off. I have LTE in my home. So when I switch, WiFi off it goes to LTE by default.

Yeah, I will have both running concurrently or manually switch, but deep sleep app is one that'll provide the means for those two bars to halt and then come back on when your phone screen is off long enough. The bars for WiFi and network would have breaks in them if no items pushed through (messages, phone calls, &c).
Also, check to see if WiFi scanning during sleep mode is set to either never or only when plugged in (from settings choose WiFi, menu, advanced) instead of always. Another item in that submenu (there are a ton of WiFi options on this phone) is automatically switching from mobile network to WiFi. You can try it on or off to see which works best for you.
These merely delay the inevitable...devs and the manufacturer can provide tools to assist with battery drain while your screen is off, but they can do little to help with power draw while your phone is awake, since how you use it drives much of the depletion rate.
That extra capacity battery is pretty awesome, but how much extra time you get from it depends a lot on how you use your phone.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for confirming my results. Yeah I have WiFi scanning off. I get a solid 5 hours screen on time with stock cell.
I get 10.1 on extended cell.
