Hello everyone,
I'm not sure if I'm the only one or not since I haven't seen this issue in any of the threads for any JB Roms. This doesn't seem to be a problem for any 1 Rom, so I'm thinking it has to do with the CM10 base everyone is using. Here is the problem:
Everything is fine on the Rom for a few days - I can browse the web, make calls, get emails, etc... Then, I'll make a call, and the call will connect (call timer starts on screen), but I can't hear the person on the other end, and they can't hear me. I know this for a fact because I called my wife's phone which I was using as a test.
It would continue to stay like this (even after rebooting normal, rebooting to recovery and wiping cache / dalvik). The only thing that seemed to fix the problem would be to re-install the Rom.
For now I'm back on one of the CM9 Roms, and everything is ok. I really like CM10, but don't want to potentially get into an emergency situation, and then not be able to use my phone, or go to make a business call, and look like an idiot because people can't hear me, etc...
I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this, or has a fix? Thanks for your input.
what Rom ? (specific)
what carrier? ( is this an ATT device running with a different carrier? )
what region? (are you in the US, Canada, or elsewhere? )
Most reports are leaning toward the modem as the issue. If we know the above information, we can suggest a fix or patch based on them....g

Rom: I've tried all of the CM10 Roms currently available, and it happened on each of those. Most recent was CM10Hybrid Paranoid Android.
Carrier: AT&T
Region: US. More specifically - South East.
The last modem I flashed directly (unless one was cooked into a rom), was UCLF6.

Lets test this a bit more....
Download and flash the Stock, UCLA1 modem, then reboot it 3 times. then try a call to a test device.
I've had marginal success with the modems above the UCLA range, and am using the UCLA1 Modem on virtually all of the roms I use. ( now if I could get all 1352 apn's from the stock rom to work...LOL ).....
It may show up as "unknown" in the "about phone" settings, but based on the tests I've done with it, you should be safe on the IMEI loss issue that some TMO users are reporting.
There is always that chance, but where you are US based on ATT, and that is their modem, you should be fine.
Test that bad boy out, and report back if ya would...thank you....g
I think its just the cm10 roms ..mainly because I've seen a post like this in all the JB forums...

I second that as the same happened to me, but all I did was reboot and it solved the issue. Happens at least once or twice a day for me.

Have any of you tried a scheduled cache clearing app ?
I've found many issues due to cache building in the background APK's....
It effectively bogs down everything , and once cleaned , fixes "a lot " of issues ...
Could someone test this and report back ?
At least we would know where to look at fixing the issues, rather than assuming it's a modem issue .....g

I posted a thread yesterday about how when i made a call the person on the other line couldn't hear me but i could hear them, when someone called me i could hear them but they couldn't hear me, i resigned myself to the fact that i would have to bring it in for repair as it was a hardware issue, flashed the 3 Ireland stock ROM, decided to try once more, made a test call and the person could hear me, got them to call me and i could hear them and vice versa so i put it down so maybe corruption in internal SD card or something.
I rooted again, flashed CheckRom and Franco kernel and set the phone up again as it was, called a friend earlier and he couldn't hear me, got him to call me and i could hear him but he couldn't hear me so im dumbstruck as to what the problem is here, i initially thought it was the microphone which was the problem but then after flashing the 3 Ireland stock ROM no problem, it was only after flashing CheckRom and Franco kernel (which i always use) the problem reappeared, so has anyone any ideas as to what might be causing this, everything else works as normal, texts, Internet, etc it's just calling someone they cant hear me and that's probably the most important thing about having a phone.
Id sooner not bring it into Fonemenders as ive heard some bad reports about this company, it's still under warranty with 3 Ireland and this is the company they use for repairs.
Phone has been fine up to this and i haven't dropped it or anything.
Cheers

It will be a wrench if i have to stay on the stock ROM for the sound in my calls to work but i am dumbstruck as to how this has happened as it never did previously, is it remotely possible that 3 Ireland may have changed some settings whereas the sound in calls only work with their stock ROM, unlikely i know but im looking to explore all avenues before i bring this in for repairs.
Well posted problem all over the board in custom roms etc for starters .LFB Modem or something like it .

i haven't seen anyone post an issue like this on here yet (unless i missed something)
i am gonna revert back to Stock ROM and test it again, then ill root and flash a kernel and see what happens.
Truly bizzare this is
WORKING AGAIN
Flashed Android Revolution out of curiosity to see what happens, made a call to a friend and he could hear me fine, got him to call me and likewise so im now sure it isn't actually the mic which is faulty it must have something to do with ROM and / or Kernel but im fu*ked if i know what it is as ive been using CheckRom and Franco kernel for a good while now without any issues, isn't there anyone else on here who has had similar issues like this?
I'm just setting up my phone again, i hope this problem doesn't come back.
I have the same problem, only that not only on checkrom... I have tried several other roms and I have the same problem, with an exception... i always hear them and they can't hear me but is not continously... 15-20 seconds is ok then 10-15 they can no longer hear me... this is on checrom v3 with lbf modem... ANY OTHER ROM, kernel or modem no sound what so ever. It seems there are too few of us in order for devs to look into it... unfortunately

FINALLY someone else with the same issue, basically when i call someone i could hear them but they couldnt hear me,when they called i could hear them but they couldn't hear me, the problem appears to have been (hopedully) resolved now ive flashed Android Revolution, ill have to avoid CheckRom which is unfortunate as it's always been my fav ROM but the problem appeared to come back after i flashed back to stock ROM then back to CheckRom,
Hi I have the no sound in call when I remove system apps or freeze apps I was use the unofficial aopk ROM I'm now using the cm10 preview and still have the same problem I've tried loads of different modems with no luck it

There are a lot of reports with different roms of the same thing and so far all I've seen have been modem issues. I saw some people said they've tried different ones which seems weird, I'm running Checkrom 3.5 and Siyah kernel 1.4 with the new XXLG8 modem and have no problems. I was using LFB and had issues and LF3 worked as well.
It's definitely not a mic problem is using stock fixes it so don't send it in for repairs, just try some of the newest modems. I hope that helps.

I never previously had a problem running check rom and franco kernel but ive no idea what happened , i do freeze stuff in Titanium Backup but only stuff wgich people have already tested and it's safe to freeze so it's quite baffling what caused this problem but since flashing Android Revolution everything is fine it's a superb ROM too close to stock which is what i want and everything works 100%, ive no real interest in CM10 too many bugs for my liking ill just wait until the official Jelly Bean code is released for the Galaxy S3.

Yeah i agree mate it's definitely not a mic problem im not 100% what caused it but i do believe it might be LFB modem or something related to this.
On every Jellybean rom, I have calling issues. On some roms, call audio wont work. On the rom I just flashed, it would not make or receive calls all together. Also, this happens only after a certain period of time. And it goes from sporadic occurances to permanent. It takes about a day or two for these issues to start appearing. This is so god damn frustrating because in the beginning the rom works perfectly, I spend all my time setting it up, and then a day or so later, I get these issues that make the phone completely unusable. Its absolutely ridiculous, and If anyone has any ideas, please please let me know. I love the JB roms but they all seem to make my phone unusable after a short time.
Please help....
JB roms are still a work in progress. And your problems could be caused/made worse by your setup (apps, widgets, tweaks, etc...). If you are using different kernels/radio, it can also contribute to problems. There are just too many variables.
My answer : use an ICS rom. ICS roms are alot more stable on our phone right now.

I am observing similar issues. I didn't used to happen before. I mean it did happen but it was a rare thing. But now it is more often. Almost everyday I have to reflash because of loosing phone audio.
I was rocking AOCP 3.1 , Worked really sweet and then decided to update to go for AOCP 4.1 and since then no rom that I tried have saved me. In fact I had to revert back to stock. What rom are you using?

I have the exact same issue now, It doesnt look like any rom is saving me right now.. my phone wont make calls or receive texts at all. I was running cookies and cream 4.1.2 and everytime i flash a JB rom it just seems to get worse and worse...
EDIT: I got it back on ICS. I guess I will just have to wait to use any JB roms... its unfortunate cause I love the JB roms hahaha
I have had issues with JB as well. I, just like the OP, would experience a perfectly working phone for a day or two then **** would hit the fan for no apparent reason. The phone would start locking up, randomly rebooting, apps would fail or not load, etc etc etc.
On most ROM's I didn't even have anything installed outside of the stock apps that CAME with the ROM.
Since then I have moved to a deoxed stock ICS ROM and honestly am not looking back. ICS is fast, stable, feature packed, and JUST WORKS.
My thing with JB was it's speed...but I was also comparing a barebones JB to the stock Gingerbread that came with the phone. I wasn't aware of how fast ICS was or I would have just gone with it long before hand!
But yeah, either way it goes, for me, no matter the ROM, JB always seemed to mess up at one point or another. Got annoying. Been going with ICS for over a week now with ZERO issues what so ever. No reboots, no crashes, no freezing, no nothing.
NEVERMIND..... ICS worked for one call, and now no calls work... great....
ICS roms are very stable.
You may have flashed your rom/kernel/radio incorrectly, or made some tweaks, or installed incompatible apps... There are too many variables.
Revert back to completely stock setup and see if the problems persist.

Same. I think it's the same for a lot of people, and I think the ones who say things run great either ignore the problems or are just extremely lucky.
Switch to Padawan. It's rock solid and you get all the fanciness of jelly bean. Since switching to it I've completely lost the itch to try out random JB ROMs. I have cool animations, Google Now, and ICS Browser+. And until I rebooted earlier to mess with stuff, I was at 142 hours uptime without any problems.
I'm not calling anyone a liar, though. I just think some people ignore more or are, as stated, lucky. I've done wiped everything, went back and wiped stuff post ROM, ran 3rd party (3rd ROM party) kernels and the ones that come with it. I've set cron to fix permissions on boot. And other than gapps -- which I always flash what the dev says to -- I run about ten 3rd party apps, and that's mostly made up of solid apps -- dropbox, exdialer, ics browser+.. etc..
Padawan, or even Nebula.
These ROMs are by the same dev, and the only difference is that Nebula is based off of Canadian version, which has even less bloat. It is better than stock.
I have been on Nebula for about a week, and no random reboots, no lockup, no phone problems. Everything just works.

have you flashed the most recent modem?
Yes, that was my next question.
Have you at any point flashed a different kernel/radio/modem? If you have, or if you do not know, search for stock kernel/radio/modem and flash them to see if it helps.
yes, uclf6 modem but eventually it just gives out.. idk what the issue is here everything works fine for a few days and out of the blue when I need my phone i cant receive or make calls anymore its INFURIATING

I have had a similar issue with the JB rom's...so far I've tried only two and seem to find the aokp_quicyatt_jb_milestone-1 rom. I have noticed issues with my phone and LTE network coverage...meaning, I can see the signal go from 4G LTE to 3G to H, then gone...I looked at the phone status settings and noticed the mobile network type with this rom is LTE:13 and with the stock ICS rom (prior to rooting and flashing) it was LTE:14...is there a way that I can change it via terminal? Thank you in advance for any help on this. The one big difference I can see so far is the battery life...much better. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi guys... I'm trying to solve a problem with my Vibrant, CM10 works except it doesn't give me data connection. But first I have to tell you a bit of a backstory
So, a couple of months ago I was a Vibrant CM9 user, never been able to solve the data problem with CM10 so I stick w/ 9. Then I decided to sell my phone and I put up an annuncment saying the phone has this and that and that and it comes with ICS.
Then CM9 for Vibrant disappeared from CM site (never understood why) and I couldn't sell my device with a ROM that was not supported anymore. I found a buyer and told him that actually I wasn't able to give him the phone w/ ICS and he was fine with it, so I sold the phone.
Now he just called me and said that the CM7 was draining is battery in 4h (never happened to me) and so he had someone installing another ICS custom ROM (he doesn't know which one) but it is buggy and bla bla bla and he asked for my help.
I don't want to ignore him, I was the one who kinda dropped the ball in the first place not giving him what I promised, and the easiest, quickest and better way to help him would be to having him install CM10 and solve the data connection thing. Another easy way would be to get a CM9 zip, but there must have been a reason for them to remove it... right?
Why all the story? To tell you that now I have to fix a problem on a device that I don't have with me
Now I explained everything to him and instructed him to install CM10, and I'm waiting to hear back from him.
I live in Italy and I have a minor carrier, he has one of the big ones... I was hoping that that alone could solve the problem, but most likely it doesn't matter at all.
Any suggestions?
Thank you a lot in advance.
Flashing any Jelly Bean ROM on one of the Vibrants I have with no SIM card installed will yield no cell data when the card is put back in.
Flash the same ROM with the SIM card in and cell data comes up perfect.
If you're flashing with the SIM card out it might be worth trying with it back in...
The other Vibrant I have doesn't care at all if the card is in or out.
Thank you for your help, I don't believe this applies to the Vibrant that I had, but I'll remember it and I'll try to put the sim in and out or something. The guy didn't reply to me yet... we'll see.
In the mean time any other thoughts are welcome
CM7 should NOT be used. Ideally you should run CM10 or CM10.1 to make sure you have the best E911 experience.
Has he tried flashing CM10 maybe it'll work with his SIM card or however he does it.

Did you mean CM9? Because of the EU Bug? Or what is wrong with CM7?
Anyway E911 is not important because in Europe the universal emergency number is that uses the E911 system is 112, but here in Italy we are retarded and we didn't implemented it yet. Seems like it's a work-in-progress thing, but it's complicated because in Italy 112 has always been another emergency number (carabinieri answer to it)... and also because we are retarded.

I used for a while the CM9 on sensation xe and had no issues with data connection. After moving to the CM10 (CM version= 10-20130119-EXPERIMENTAL-pyramid) I'm now having that problem. The WIFI works great but no data connection on the mobile network. I tried rebooting, wiping cach/dalvik cach, reset network to default settings...nothing worked for me.
any help!
Hello people,
For the past few months I'm having this issue which I find extremely [email protected]!!
Every few minutes, my phones just loses internet connectivity - the 3g signal appears to be normal during all the time, thing is, whenever I try to use any internet application - it just hangs. and then, after a minute or so, connectivity is back(again, for a few minutes).
I have tried flashing so many versions of modems - some improved it a little but most of them didn't help at all, or even made it worse.
Hopefully someone could help me with that as I'm that close to give up on this and buy a new phone.
Thanks in advanced.
Nir.
Which firmware are you running on your phone? What modem do you have right now and where do you live? Do you have problems with all apps that use internet-connection? Do the problems dissapear when you use wifi?
Just some information would be usefull

Rom: RootBox V3.8
Kernel: 3.0.31-CM-g7ce58e6
Baseband: I9100DXLPB
Android version: 4.2.2
I live in Israel, bought the phone in Thailand.
I tried flashing all available Israeli modems(from various cell phone providers) - none helped.
Problem disappear when I move to WiFi - as 3g connectivity moves to background...
Thanks.
I assume you've read the Rootbox threads to see if other people experience signalproblems?
Did you compare the connectivity with other roms? Stock-based roms for example...

That seems quite weird.. The only thing I can come up with is 1) a hardware problem, or 2) you live in an area where the signal is crap
Hopefully someone else knows anything.. Good luck.

If you've only tried flashing the modems bundled with stock roms from Israeli carriers, you haven't done nearly enough. There are literally dozens of modems available, you need to start flashing as many as you need to. This isn't going to fix itself magically.

I haven't flashed only Israeli modems but others as well. I've tried around 20 so far...
Question is, which direction should I choose? should I look for Thai modems or IL?
That depends. I know Israeli carriers sold (still sell ?) the I9100T, are you sure you don't have one of these ? If that's the case, I'd be trying modems bundled with roms released by the Australian & NZ carriers which sold the I9100T (I have one), and yes, the Thai ones as well.
If you do have an I9100, then keep trying any/every modem you can get your hands on. If it's not a carrier-side issue, this is really all you can try, unless you want to start messing around with RIL's as well. I've not found any difference in connectivity doing this personally (tho many people have) but if you get to the point of trying every single modem & you're sure it isn't a carrier issue, you might as well try. But I would leave this till last given many people find their connectivity messed up even worse by flashing an incompatible RIL.
Hey.
I've got an issue that comes & goes with my SGSIII.
I use UltimaROM v16 and Boeffla 5.1 Kernel, and have tried reflashing with no luck.
I experience the distorted voice on calls periodically. Some calls just work perfectly, some just doesn't.
When it does occur, it's almost distorted to the point, where I can't hear what people say. The problem is consistent with or without headset.
Occassionally I start out a conversation with the distortion being really bad (the problem is only on my end). Then, after a few minutes of conversation, it disappears, and the quality is perfectly fine again.
Really strange.
I work as a journalist, which means frequent phone interviewing. Thus, I really depend on being able to hear what people say over the phone when working.
After searching for some answers on the board, I found some users recommending flashing a new modem/RIL.
Problem is: I don't know the first thing about which modem/RIL is right for my phone.
I ran GetRIL and it said "Baseband: I9300XXUGMK6" and "Unknown RIL"
So.. is this still a modem/RIL-thing?
If so, which one should I use, and which modems & RILs fit together?
Please help a new Samsung flash-o-holic out!
Thanks,
Thorm
