Hello,
I recently purchased the Galaxy S2 phone and one things that annoys me is that if you have a friends that belongs in multiple social networks, you can't join them all to his main phone contact. For example i have a friend's gmail contact on my contact list and i want to join his other contacts from facebook, twitter, last.fm, skype, myspace, whatsapp, linkedin etc.. (for those who don't know, by installing the official social app on your android you get the option to list those contacts on your phone contact list)... Well the problem is that when i try to join a 6th contact i get the message "unable to join contact. maximum number of joined contacts is 5"
I know most of you will problably say use another app for your contacts but i really wanna know if anyone finds it annoying and has found workaround... maybe a tweak to increase the limit, an upgrade or another app that adresses this issue....I really don't wanna use a 3rd party app for my contact list...
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks,
Dennis
Any ideas anyone?
I am interested too, I find it weird you can only merge 5 account...
I guess you can't?
I am interested too, someone in my contact has many social account T T
You can try and do it in gmail rather than your phone

I don't mean gmail contacts i mean gmail conacts with other social network contacts...for example a gmail contact with facebook, skype, linkedin, twitter last.fm etc...
i would be interested as well.
i use google contacts, facebook, twitter, google+, skype and facebook is listed twice, once for its own app, once for social hub and i recently found, some of my contacts that in fact use all the services cannot be merged into one contact anymore, as that would mean, merging 6 contacts.
the sgs2 has great social networking integration, but why set this stupid limit that serves no one? the feature of merging contacts is supposed to combine all online activity of one person into one contact.
+1 on this..
There should be some way to increase the counter on the number ( or remove it completely) for the number of contacts that can be joined..
As the number of social/communication apps grow so do the contacts on those that you would want to link
Anyone has the fix to unlock the 5 contacts limits?
I'm looking forward for this fix too
I have the T-Mobile SGS2, but I found this thread looking for the same answer. I found this feature request though on the android project that anyone wanting this feature should probably star and add a comment on to convince them to add it...

i could develop it partially now, I could remove the limit, but when I make the order to join it said "contacts joined" but actually nothing happened!
so i am working on it to find the problem
i will post in SGSII developing section once it is done
so stay close
check it out

I couldn't figure out why the facebook one is listed twice - I was going crazy!! Should both be joined?
Also, I have a contact that has a twitter account and when I click on "join contact" I don't see their twitter account to select to join... how do I do this?
Thanks!
Maria
current the stock contact doesn't allow that, but i have seen it work on an EVO3D.
i really need a fix for this issue, anyone to help ????

Go to twitter settings and under other settings choose sync all for "Contact settings"
Go to your contacts app and the twitter contact should be there now to link to other contacts (if not then press the menu hard key, go to more, display options, and tick all contacts under twitter)
Once you're done syncing, you can untick display all twitter contacts to hide unnecessary ones and can go back to twitter and change contact sync to existing contacts to minimise data usage
Also social hub is a stupid app, just replicates what the official facebook app does, if i were you I would remove your facebook account from social hub and you won't have duplicate facebook contacts then
I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I have noticed that my contacts are all fine when I look them up to call or browse but when I want to send a sms and go to select a contact I have a heap of contacts that shouldn't be there and a lot of them repeat themselves several times. I have cleared all my contacts from my gmail account and from both phone and sim card but they remain in my sms contact and i cant delete them. Its frustrating having to scroll through all the names that shouldn't be there when ever I want to send a sms.
Would a factory reset clear all my contacts?
I am using galaxy s2 with skyrom 8 xxkh3
android version 2.3.4
Do you use Facebook for Android? If so, did you select it sync at all? If so, it syncs all facebook contacts to the SMS area you are talking about. Easiest way to check is by opening the Facebook app then: Menu -> Settings -> Scroll all the way down -> Sync Contacts -> Remove Facebook Data
It's the same with any social media app, like Twitter. Twitter is the same way.
Let me know it worked for ya!
thanks David for your suggestions. I don't have or use facebook. I do have it synced with gmail and hotmail but I have cleaned out both accounts contacts and then synced it again but no change. I have also removed all contacts from phone and the sms contacts still remain.
I cant understand why the sms contact list repeats itself several times

You can try backing up your text messages with an app and then clearing data for your SMS application. I'm not sure if it will work, but it's worth a shot.
You can also try using a third party SMS app (like Hsndcent, Chomp, or Go SMS) and see if the problem is only with the stock app.

thanks for the advice and help
I use a 3rd party sms ap (Go sms)
I will try to work out how to clear my sms data and see if that helps.
Just looked again and I have a contact listed 8 times in sms but the same contact doesn't show up in my normal contacts.
Thanks guys for your help and I will post the outcome
tried to clear the data from my contacts and sms contacts but it only removed a couple of names.
I've just noticed that some of the contacts in the sms list dont even contain a phone number only an email address?
problem solved.
in case others have this issue I will try to explain how I sorted it.
I wiped the data from contacts which made little difference until I rebooted then the contacts that shouldn't be there were gone but Iwas left with double of every contact.
I deleted all the contacts from the sim and that removed the duplicate from the sms......
A little bothered that I cant keep contacts on both sim card and phone. I like to keep them on both as if I needed to change phone my contacts would be there no matter what phone I put the card in. I also like to keep them on the phone as it allows me to store more info and pics of contacts.
If anyone has a fix for this I would be happy to hear it.
Thanks again to the guys who helped me out....and yes you did help!
From the SMS app, go into settings and make sure no show from history options are selected, also same with show email.

Frustration is growing by a second as I researched my issue only finding similar questions raised without much answers...
I'm hoping someone here would be able to help me out on this.
I'm upgrading from a HTC Hero to a Galaxy Nexus. I want to transfer all my contacts from my old HTC to the new phone. I used Google Sync.
I never had the habit of syncing contacts to the PC; hence my GMail contact list was pretty much empty to begin with.
On the HTC, i exported all the contacts into the SD card as VCF file and went to GMail and imported that file into my GMail.
Then, it seems like it only grabbed a portion of the contacts into Gmail but at the same time, deleting most of my phone contacts in my HTC! The contact list on the phone only has facebook contacts and their emails, the phone numbers (not all of them for some very odd reasons) are gone.
In the call history, the caller of past calls had became "Unknown caller" rather than their names.
In the SMS history, the author of the messages had became the phone numbers rather than their names.
I guess I could get some of the phones back by manually figuring out which number belongs to who depending on the content of the texts but it does seem like the numbers lost the linkages to the names after syncing.
Is it possible at all to get my contact list back?
Another thing I tried doing was to use the original HTC Sync. It seems like it did its syncing but where do these contacts go on the PC? I checked Outlook and clicked contacts only to find about 20 contacts in there; my phone list definitely had way more than that.
What is going on...someone please spark me some new years hope...
As it is, the HTC One will sync all my Gmail contacts without any ability to choose which groups to sync. This results in every person I've ever emailed from Gmail to show up in my phone dialer app as a contact.
I can choose groups to hide or display but this doesn't stop the syncing of these contacts and does not hide them from the phone app.
This is actually quite a deal breaker for me since I do not want to delete my email contacts from Gmail, I just don't want to see them on my dialer app. I can't imagine I'm the only person running into this issue.
Any ideas?
This is the first android phone that I have had without the option in contacts to choose "show only contacts with phone numbers." Anyone know another way to make this happen? Through Gmail settings or a certain app? Frustrating seeing so many random emails and crap pop up because of Gmail. Sorry if it's a noob question, help much appreciated!
I'm in the same boat as you. I have a S6 and hate that I can't "Show only contacts with phone numbers" on here. Hope this is something in the works or perhaps I'm just not doing it right.
This setting is in the contacts to show options, where you choose accounts contacts are to be pulled from.
Unfortunately it still pulls all email address only contacts. I'd like only contacts with phone numbers.

it's not there. the problem is that the S6 or maybe Gmail itself has decided to move all contacts to My Contacts and even if you attempt to edit those contacts into a different group, it won't let you. going into an individual contact on the phone, the My Contact field is grayed out and it won't even let you deselect it so you can filter another group etc.
i was going to move all the email only contacts to a different group but that won't even work now because every contact is now defaulted to My Contacts and even in Gmail contact settings itself you can no longer change that. even if you move email only to a different group, they will remain listed under My Contacts (or All Contacts) as it's called now.
pretty stupid. hopefully there's a fix coming. i'd hate to use a separate Contacts app.

You can use the web version to that.
h t t p :/ / w w w .google. com/contacts
There, you can remove contacts from the group "My Contacts" so they won't show up in the cellphone anymore (unless you search manually).
Also, I find this post very helpful:
http: / / forums.androidcentral.com/android-5-0-lollipop/465143-how-do-i-display-only-contacts-phone-numbers-lollipop.html#post4377999
The scripts keeps in your "My Contacts" group only the contacts with cellphone numbers.
