Returning back to older HBOOT - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

So I've been dying to try out the CM10 ROM but I found out the usual flashing doesn't work since I'm on the newest HBOOT, but if I flash an older rooted version of a stock ROM will it also put me on the older HBOOT so that I could flash it the usual way?

As far as I know, it isn't possible yet. Just don't do any ota updates.

No, the ROM is separate from the bootloader. You can fastboot flash a kernel with the new hboot (which you'll need to do for cm10) by following the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1794867
There is currently no way to downgrade you hboot version.

You dont need the older H-boot, all you need to do is learn how to correctly flash a kernel with your h-boot.
There are many methods available

I don't think we can update radios as of yet on hboot 1.5. That would require s-off.

You gotta relock run the 2.17 ruu the unlock ,flash recovery and superuser that's the only way

that sucks. Do yall know if it is worth updating to the latest radio.
It's is if you plan on flashing new roms plus the 2.17 update its a lot better running

S-off help

Ok So I did s-off but used the stock firmware and on gingerbread. I want to install a rom with the new ics ruu leak but I already did s-off on gingerbread and installed the hboot. Do I have to go back to s-on then install ics ruu and go s-off again with the ics version? trying to not brick my phone. I should have changed the firmware before hand but didn't read the FAQ only the instructions. I don't know what to do.
No you can run the ruu without worrying or there's a thread in development with just the radios and firmware that you can flash without having to run the ruu. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614366

I'm not sure what you mean. I would go with the latest .10 I think it has jb hboot 2.2525. That way you have the latest radios and can fastboot flash your recovery without having to unlock

Either stock or JB HBoot should be fine, as long as its the 2.25 ICS 5-7 one. I'm on the stock one and have flashed several ICS ROMs just fine. Only reason you'd need the JB one is if you need extra fastboot commands I believe. Since I don't really do anything with fastboot, I just grabbed the stock one.

[Q] Which Roms can I flash

I am confused as to which roms I am able to flash. I am Unlocked, s-on, with twrp. I have read a bunch of threads and think I understand what s-on means but not sure as to which roms I can flash. Some of the roms say that you can flash them but a lot don't mention it at all. I would like to flash a non sense rom like cm 10 but I get stuck in the cm 10 loading screen. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks
You can flash any rom you want. You can now get s-off too. Go to unlimited.io and use the dirtyracun method. If you don't want to do that you will need to flash the kernel separately.

I have a 64 bit running windows 7 and not familiar with running it from a disc. So I guess I'll flash the kernel separate.
So flash the rom then flash the kernel?
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I'm not exactly sure, I've never had to do it. I think you need to extract the boot.img and the flash the rom then fastboot flash the boot.img.
In case anyone is wondering I got it to flash and boot up by flashing the ROM then right after that I flashed an s on kernel that was compatible with the ROM I flashed.
Thanks for the help in leading me in the right direction.

S-off for hboot 2.09

Hi. If I didn't search thoroughly for a question like this, I apologize ahead of time. But I was curious if there is a way to s-off hboot 2.09 that is currently s-on?
I have not tried dirty racun yet.

Right now there isn't. That's the newest version and I doubt anyone has even begun working on finding the exploit as yet.
I was afraid you would say that.

Onlybob, go to the bars. That's the only way you'll feel okay.
Nah I'm fine, this is not urgent at all, I'm running CM10 with no issues. This is a minor setback, that's all.

I went s-on since day one after I got bored of stock and have never had any problems Tbh, I almost pity all the poor s-off folks who were too terrified to take the ota All it takes is a couple extra steps to flash anything and its been worth it so far. I preordered so I had plenty of chances to S-Off early on but I don't regret it at all.

Now s-on is not bad at all right? The only con is having to flash boot.img through fast boot when flashing a rom?

Another con is you can't update your firmware unless you relock and take the OTA or hope a recovery flashable zip comes along
So if your hboot was s-off, how is it any different than s-on? You still have to run the RUU to go back to stock then get the OTA right? Or are you talking about some other OTA?

There are Firmware zips available right now for 3.15 that can be flashed in the bootloader but you must be S-OFF to flash them.Just flash and everything is updated except hboot, kernel, and stock recovery.
Flashing those firmwares is the same as taking the OTA except for what I mentioned above

Ugh - took the OTA on an HTCdev unlocked boot loader and now it seems hboot 2.09 locks down the systems (can't update supersu binary, they locked down /system?). Now on viperboy stock rooted rom...
Hopefully they come out with an s-off technique for 2.09, need to be able to "hide" supersu/root binaries on my device...
Any news on s-off for hboot 2.09?
Hi, I'm am a noob, I got the JB update, then decided to root my phone. I am unlocked and rooted. I would like to turn s-off but my hboot is 2.09.
I am trying to flash mean bean and every time it gets to around 25%, my phone reboots. I am using twrp to try flashing it.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Or what I need to do?
Thanks again.

Can I unlock boot loader and use a different rom with a different firmware

I'm on tmobile and I update to .11 and now revone don't want to work and it seem like the firmware patch the root in the method , so wondering if I change the rom would you be able to get revone to work on the phone??
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
Soff has to do with the hboot. Flashing a custom Rom changes the system and boot partitions. So flashing a Rom will not change weather you can Soff. With an unlocked boatloader you can flash recoverys and then rooted roms. Twrp will even add superSu to your current Rom.

Yea I know that part and I'm on hoot 1.44 just updated to the new firmware to improve my lte , but my question is that is it possible it I unlock my boot loader And flash a rom and then run revone , would it work ? Becuz the new firmware block the method for s-off
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
You can still unlock via htcdev. But HTC patched the exploit that makes revone and others like moonshine work, so... Currently there is no method for u to soff. That will not prevent u from flashing ROMs though. Just unlock, flash a custom recovery via fastboot. Fastboot flash recovery "name of your recovery".IMG then your free to flash away.
Now,,, I should note that I have not actually updated to .11. What I know I know from research on XDA. I considered it but since I already updated to 2.24 I decided to only flash the radio from the tmo update.
I hope I have answered your question.
P.S iPhone!? Really?' Excuse me I have to go wash the siri off my hands
