Factory Reset went terribly wrong! - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hello guys. I have been using ADW Launcher for a long time. After I rooted my Android, I uninstalled the stock launcher cause I thought it was useless... I have been trying to find a way to install a custom ROM on my Android, and found a site where it said before I start, I should do a Factory Reset. I forgot that the FR would delete my ADW Launcher, I did it.
Now, whenever I boot my phone, I am stuck on a black screen instead of my ADW Launcher!
I can't buy a new phone at the moment, so I desperately need your help! I know it was stupid, but please, dont' judge... ;u ;
This is the phone I have: sonymobile.com/gb/products/phones/xperia-mini-pro/
Please help.

I am on a Mac, and I am not very good with this whole flash blah blah. Can you help me step by step? I have access to a PC, but my parents don't let me use it... that is why I prefer doing it on a Mac. If there is absolutely no way to do it on a Mac, I will look for the PC for help. But can you get me a better understanding, along with links etc? I don't like doing things on my own... that is the main reason my phone derped!
Thanks!

Go to a windows pc and do it like here in number 2. You can flash it with flashtool, so connect it to pc while holding volume up! That's it!
Or another one: Did you install cwm? Then you could download the 4.0.A.0.69 zip from here. Then you just go to recovery and click mounts/storage and mount your usb storage. You push the zip to your phone and flash the .zip. Then you are on 4.0.A.0.69, but only do this if you were on Gingerbread before, if you were on ics, just flash your phone with flashtool. Go to a windows pc and flash it
If your pc recognizes phone again you could install cwm with that tool. But better flash the ftf!

What do you mean by "my phone doesn't connect"? Does it charge whn you plug usb? Do the leds light up?
If you really do not have access to a pc there are two other solutions:
Install windows on your mac using bootcamp http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
or
Create a vritual machine using virtual box
Enjoy
P.S
Next time you walk into an electronics store take a moment for yourself, breathe calmly, look at all the offers around you and ponder "wouldn't any of these machines that have 3times the power at 1/3 the price of a macbook a far wiser choice?" This should keep you from repeating foolish mistakes. Your parents are very wise at not letting you near a pc.

I already have bootcamp. But, I am trying my hardest to work on a Mac, since I know what to do. And yes, the LED lights, but it doesn't connect!

If you have bootcamp, do you alread have a pc partition set up? why don't you use that?
It is very hard to work on these things from a mac, it's THE rival to the android world so compatibility is the lowest possible.
As far as i know (and the cyanogen wiki goes) there are no simple methods for using flashtools on a mac, so best thing is to use bootcamp and load it from there.
Can you be more specific when you say that your phone "doesn not connect"?

I do have Windows setup.
When I say it doesn't connect, I mean that the LED goes on, it starts charging, but I can't access my SD card, nor can I access the Sony Bridge Mac... So I can't do anything with the phone!
Also, a new problem arose. I can't click home. When I click the home button nothing hgappens!

Do you already have sdk tools installed on you mac?
If not
- go here http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html, donwload mac version
- go into /platform tools/ and execute the android file
- in /platform tools/ open cmd window and execute "chmod +x fastboot-mac"
- execute "./adb devices", it should give a response if device is connected properly
-If all the above works then all you need to do is get any launcher.apk, place it in the /platform tools and execute "./adb push launcher.apk /system/app"
-If phone doesn't get recognized by the mac some people reported a problem with easy thether, so in terminal type sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/EasyTetherUSBEthernet.kext and check if that solves the issue
This is how to manuall install an app from host. Hope it helps.
Btw, do you have cwm recovery installed? Also does the phone reboot constantly or when you get to final loading it just start giving a constant fc message from home?
Which home button started working? on the phone? Of course it does nothing, if you deleted the home app....
As long as connection works and leds light up phone isn't dead

Alright I am on PC. How do I flash?

Well your only problem was the missing home.apk right? You don't need to reflash the whole firmware if you don't want to...here are the two options anyway:
Requisites: adb drivers. Make sure you have the adb drivers for the phone, if not http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623199
Method 1)
-Download flashtool
-Download your phone's stock firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792
-Place ftf file in the programs firmware folder
-Start flashtools, select flash icon, point to the ftf file you downloaded earlier (after selecting flash mode)
-holder volume down button and connect usb (with phone powered off) when flashtools prompts you to
-Wait for installation. Done
Method 2)
-Download sdk tools (as said above)
-Download/extract from any rom or market a launcher.apk
-Put apk into platfrom-tools folder
-Opend a cmd window and navigate to your platform-tools folder
- Type adb device to make sure device is connected and recognized (this time it can be turned on and plugged in)
- type "adb remount"
- type adb push (or install) launcher.apk /system/app/
- reboot
Done

[Q] Stuck at step 6 noob rooting guide

Hee fellows i have a little problem while routing my xperia x10i
i'm following a nice guide from synlar it's called: Newbies Guide to Rooting X10 and giving you the newest firmware!
"Note: This next step can take a while!
Open step2.cmd, don't press anything!
On the phone, a list of buttons will come up eventually. Press the 6th option (something about update from SDcard). ONLY PRESS IT ONCE!
Leave your phone alone. Go to the washroom or eat a snack.
You'll see the progress on the phone screen, as it installs the package. Leave everything alone."
im getting an error about that my device cant be found.
check image:
can't upload a picture of the error something with newb user
- I changed the device id in the text file
- tried it on 2 different pc's
and the flashing worked great i put the phone in debug mode i see in the left corner an exclamation but it won't work
please help me
hey try this its the only thing i got to work it was fast and quick and all you need is x10root.apk,
Win 7 x64
AT&T Xperia X10a
I was trying to root my X10a, using the one click method (X10Root.1.0.8.apk), and got hung up when trying to side load the app. ADB nor SWM could find the device. I finally got ADB to find my device. Here is how I got it to work.
Xperia- have debugging on
- have titanium backup free installed
- have busy body free installed
- do NOT mound SD
- have allow mock locations on
- have stay awake on
PC- have pc companion installed BUT terminate the process
- have the android sdk installed. (when installing I just installed everything)
- have android-sdk_r07-windows folder in C:/
- I changed the folder name above (android-sdk_r07-windows) to sdk
- have X10Root.1.0.8.apk file in C:/
- if google calander sync installed exit it.
With X10 plugged in and all above met.
Open command prompt
Type or copy and paste(if you changed folder name) cd C:\sdk\tools
Hit enter
Type adb kill-server
Hit enter
Type adb shell
Hit enter
Type adb install C:\X10Root.1.0.8.apk
Hit enter
Now the app should be on your phone. I hope this helps some AT&T X10 owners out there. Everyone keep up the good work.
thank u for ur reply im going to test it tonight when im home from work
Will let you know

I would now just run SEUS then the One Click Root. That guide only gets you to 023 so when you've run steps 1-5 your phone should have been debranded, so running SEUS will update you to 026.
so according to your post i have to connect phone then update via seus, and then what i need to download apk en how do i get that working on my phone

[Q] Can any kind soul can upload a fresh CWM restore file? Anyone?

Hello everyone!
Cut to the chase:I semibricked my GT-5830i, i, and I so desperately need someone to help me upload a blank restore file to be flashed from CWM 5.0.2.6. I imagine it to be:
1. Backup current files using CWM.
2. Factory reset.
3. Backup factory resetted stuff using CWM restore.
4. Upload file mentioned in step 3.
5. Restore file mentioned in step 1 to your phone.
I understand most ppl would have personal stuff in their phone, hence I suggested the 5 steps above. And I apologize as I'm not able to give away incentives of any sort.
Thank you very much.
As odin works with galaxy young pit file..why not do a clean flash ??
As this will be better for you and also you will not require to find a good and rare soul
I laid out upon thee, le problems:
1. Macs don't support Odin. Chance are I won't be getting access to Windows anytime soon.
2. Even with Heimdall One-Click Unbrick, the program does not detect my phone in USB port. Both ports.
3. I have installed the driver from Kies 2.2.0 like, say, 5 times, still USB no response.
4. I heard something about a binary counter or something for the S5830i. Goes up for everytime you flash something with ODIN.
5. As with 4, i'm worried about battery life, since i haven't charged it in a week, and its probably just hanging by a thread. The phone does not seem to be charging when I plug in the power. If it flashes and quits halfway i'm pretty much screwed.
So, before I take back my phone (for the second time) to the Samsung Repair Shop feeling very paiseh, I'm am now considering the possibility of some kind soul uploading a fresh restore file, or another solution to the problem.
Thank you.

VirtualBox could not even detect my Kingston thumbdrive, which contained all the big repair files, so I decided go with VMware Fusion. This time, the VM detected the Thumbdrive, but not the S5830i in download mode. I made sure to download the latest version of kies, upgrade the drivers, then restart the VM, but still nothing. Even after putting the phone cable in place of the Kingston drive (Drive E), it still could not detect. All i get is "Hardware not properly installed" (along those lines) in the status bar on the bottom right.
Help pls! Thanks!

[Q] Android malfunction...

Now, first and foremost, Hello to the XDA community and this would be my first post. I am having issues with my Xperia Neo V and I can't find a solution for it.
I admit that this is a stupid mistake on my end so let me start my story and I am hoping to get some assistance from a reputable community such as this.
I was installing some games via Google Play and I realized that my phone's internal memory gets full kinda fast as it is where files are saved by default. So, the genius me, tried to remove some stock apps that may contribute to useless disk space using Titanium Backup. All went well and I deleted a couple of stuff and it worked fine then I decided to restart it to factory settings (without doing backup which I regret up until now). I had several malfunctions after it rebooted again:
Whenever I am trying to go to phone book, I am unable to just press the number to make a call. I need to select edit contact first before calling
The middle button (the one with a house Icon, probably called Home Button, does not respond at all so I having a hard time quitting apps
the worst part, I am unable to connect the phone properly using USB. What happens is that when I plug the USB, the charging symbol on the battery bar shows it's charging (like plugged to a wall jack) but the computer does not show anything, regardless if it's Media transfer mode or Mass Storage mode (mass storage shows an empty drive in My Computer). I tried using other usb cables and other memory cards and apparently, it does not work. Other USB cables that works on other xperia neos yeild the same result.
What I was planning to do initially is to update the firmware (currently on 2.3.4), but updating via WiFi shows it's updated, and using the PC Companion does not work.
I know I deleted something that I should not and I'm at a loss. Later, I will attempt to connect my phone in the PC Companion to try and update it to ICS connecting it to my private wifi. Hopefully it would do the trick.
Another work around that Im thinking is to look for someone that does have a backup of the apk files so that I can restore them again in my phone.
Can anyone please assist me on this? T_T
I recommend connecting the device to your PC companion and using the repair option. If that doesn't work, try flashing a stock ROM from either Wotan or get one somewhere from these forums (I'm sure there were a few in the development section)
Good luck

Why don't you just flash an orginal rom (.ftf)?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678690
And then (after you get what you deleted) you just need to get them into your phone. If you were able to uninstall it, you!re having root. So send it to the phone via bluetooth or download from somewhere via wifi (if the USB doesn't work as you told) and using some file explorer move it to their directory and reboot. I think it should work

Ok here's my idea. Get any stock based rom from the dev page (there's a list in the sticky posts) and male sure it's the proper version. Then download the zip file and open it up. Find system/app or system/data/app or something similar inside the zip. Then simply copy and paste the apps from there to your phone, and don't forget the proper permissions.

If you can put the files into SD card, then use whot venoma333 says and do it through SD card - you can move a lots of files together (for example using ES file explorer).
Or you can try to connect your phone to S(E)US or Flashtool. If it would work, that will be the best for you And I think, that in PCC is some option to "re-flash" your phone (like somebody told here). On the top it says if your phone has the newest firmware version or not. Click on on it and you'll get a window with reapair option
Ok, I'm going to attempt to flash and I reached the xperia website (unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions), and based on the instructions, I checked if "Bootloader unlock allowed" is set to yes, unfortunately, my phone says no.. Can I still continue the process??If not, is it still possible to do manual firmware update without unlocking the bootloader?
There is no need to unlock bl for flash process. So forget that page, for now.
You mentioned pc companion, what happens when you start pc comp. and connect your phone(turned on)?
If it doesn't connect to pcc, go to device manager on your pc and tell me how is your phone named there and does it have yellow ! mark next to it?
This is the last thing that I think could possibly work, does anyone know an android 2.3.4 iso nandroid? I think that's the best way to do it for now..I am unable to do the hold back button while restarting, does not work for me

Nothing happens in PCC, it will show that no devices are found. In DM, it shows:
-Sony Ericsson sa0102
|_Sona sa0102 ABD Interface driver
I was trying to update it using PCC, it recognizes the device after I mount the memory card.
What I have done, I restored the system using CWM using this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1630348.html
It worked, however, since the carrier and model brand is not the same, I was unable make my sim card/carrier to work.
My hope now is to get an ISO file for android version 2.3.4 which is from a generic phone. I live in the Philippines and my carrier is SMART telecommunications.
Apparently, the update from the link is for a Verizon phone
If you want alot of space, use a small ROM. Alot of devs have come up with stock Xperia GB ROMs that are easy on memory. To fix, You'll need to flash the entire phone with a stock ROM. Then flash a custom ROM. Besides that, you do know you can transfer apps to SD.

[Q] p769 - softbricked by noob

i finally figured out how to get CWM installed and working, after a couple of months of fighting with it, off and on. so, i guessed that meant i have my bootloader unlocked - "wrong!".
i deleted some thing that wasn't supposed to be deleted, then the damned cell network and lan network stopped working (keeps saying com.android.phone has stopped). so i was going to put cyanogenmod on it, because i thought that i could, and just be done with the whole "missing apps" crap. it turns out "just because you CAN put CM on it doesn't mean you CAN put CM on it". i bricked it. i have NO options to "load" or "flash" or "boot" any thing when the phone is booting up. i would love some clarification as to what i CAN do from here.
i would rather install CM and be done with all of this, but i'll take any advice that gets rid of the problem. the biggest problem is understanding how to put CM on your phone, or to do any thing at all like that, when you cant get into any kind of recovery / boot menu, even though you ARE rooted... i don't care if i have to install cyanogenmod or some one else's CWM backup, i just don't know HOW to do it - especially with no windows (only linux). it's a rooted p769v20d (originally p769v10g).

fwiw, regarding the mysterious deleted app:
i lose my internet signal as soon as it says "com.android.phone has stopped", then i get it back again right before it says that message again - it ALSO shows a cell-phone signal right before that message. this repeats over and over and over every few seconds - aggravating as hell...
here's the apps that i still have installed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45774770

thanks, but i think i finally got it working. i never knew, after all this time, that after you do the l9recoveryinstaller, at the reboot, there are no cues to tell when when to hit some buttons, and it's not clear what buttons to hit. here's what i did, and, so far, its progress:
1: be rooted
2: install busy box, completely
3: install l9recoveryinstaller
4: reboot
5: after you see the LG logo, hold vol-down until you see the flashing lights (i thought you see the flashing lights and THEN you hit vol-down, but i was wrong).
still fighting to get a rooted rom installed ...
if i choose "install zip from external sdcard" is says:
"finding update ... opening update ... installing update ...installation aborted".
if i choose "restore" instead of "install" it will not let me select any thing, it just keeps saying file not found, when i try to select any further options, whether "restore" or "restore from external sdcard" or "advanced restore from external sdcard". and i already checked to make sure the sdcard was mounted...

I think your phone bootloader is locked, you cannot flash any custom rom zip file. It will soft brick your phone.
Please restore P769 CWM back from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136204. Download backup file and unbzip it. Put extract files in your sdcard /clockworkmod/backup/2013-08-30.12.00.00 folder. Extract file should contain several .img, .tar, .a, .log and .md5

Then try to use LG mobile support tool to recover your phone. Load it from LG website, start your phone to S/W upload mode, connect usb then start program and select recover phone from menu.

i don't have a windows computer. looks like i'm out a 350$ phone. lesson learned. never will cease to be amazed that so many mobile hackers are using windows... seems like they would be linux users too... that would be awesome, because then there are likely to be linux tools to do this with... and i don't have a windows img to load into a virtual machine... lucky lucky lucky...
thanks any way...

Well correct me if I am wrong, but I guess you "only" deleted some system files, right? Do you remember which ones were the ones? Or at least the folder they were in? Then you only need to extract that stuff from a kdz/ the bin file and push them on your phone using adb or maybe even the dd command.
Maybe if someone is kind enough, he ll probably provide you with the files you need. And cmiiw, but I guess you deleted stuff from /system/app...

Lol, you are a Linux user, you should know how to get your hands on a windows.iso
However, i would recommend using a portable windows xp (bootable usb)
VR is not the best option IMO
You will need this program http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
&
Sorry I can't provide a link to the iso but do a google search for
portable windows xp bootable usb Osheraj

It's depend on what method you use. You can flash kdz using offline method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344
or use LG mobile support tools from LG website. If you choose this you don't need to download any kdz. It'll download kdz automatically from LG server then flash it on your phone. It take about an hour or two.

thats awesome - i wonder if i can get by with using that on wine on linux, instead of borrowing a windows computer... i'm gonna try it...
well, the verdict is in, on this one: i'm screwed. i've tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried, and i can NOT flash this damned phone. it's BRICKED.
i borrowed / hijacked my brother's computer (windows7), all day. i tried a few different things - i even tried the same way i flashed it to update it ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2356536 ), which was worthless to unbrick it.
the problem in every case was that every time the damned flasher got so far along it would "lose the connection to the phone". drivers installed, etc, etc, no difference. i suspect its because i couldnt connect it in all the various modes (mtp ptp etc), since the ONLY way it would connect is in "software upgrade mode".
i had to buy another phone, won't have it till tuesday. lesson learned: NEVER buy a phone that didn't come from samsung... you just can't do what you want with them, without a lot of time, patience, experience, and a windows computer.
thanks for all the help.

Did you try to recover your phone with LG mobile support tool. It can reinstall rom in almost any soft-brick case. Please try it if you haven't try it yet. Many people restore their phone by that software. The steps are
- Download LG mobile support tool from LG web site
- Boot you phone to S/W update mode
- Run Tool and select recover phone
- Wait about 1-2 hours to download and flash
If it's not hardware problem, this should solve your problem

i never found that on their website, and i looked quite a few times. however, i noticed when i used the b2clientsetup.exe that if i run it without running the shttp server first, that it downloads a support tool from the net, which does not work - keeps saying phone lost connection. not sure if its the same tool.

Yes that tool. In my region, it has download link but for P769 it has request repair service.
Download from http://tool.xcdn.gdms.lge.com/client/app/B2CAppSetup.exe
You must remove following lines from hosts file
127.0.0.1 csmg.lgmobile.com
127.0.0.1 csmgdl.lgmobile.com
Then run it

yeah, that's exactly what i did, but it would keep "losing the connection to the phone". not sure why, but i suspect it was a driver issue - and i installed the latest drivers, which made no difference. i also went back and installed older drivers, which made no difference. i must just be lucky as hell, or some thing .

Try to use others USB ports, if that also doesn't work maybe you have to try on other computer.

yeah, i tried switching between the usb 3.0 ports and usb 2.0 ports, but it made no difference. i have no access to any other computers, so, that's why i ended up ordering another phone. i'll never buy another phone that is not a samsung...
thanks
In my country (RO) there are some GSM Repair Centers. You should not give up and you should go to them. Par example, I flashed an HTC Mozart when the battery was dead and I bricked it (idiot, I know). I went to a shop like the ones mentioned above and I think he said that he has to flash the phone using a JTAG or something like that (I know that he has to open the phone to reach it's motherboard, solder some **** out there and... flash I guess). The whole thing was about ~20E. Anyway, keep digging, maybe you'll eventually find something that works for you. If not, go to someone who can "force flash" it and maybe you can save the device.

Brick, freeze, exploded or just missing something????

Hello great people of XDA. Ok I have a major problem. I'm not sure what classification my phone state is in, but this is the issue. I turn it on it loads up and displays the Sony, xperia and the existenz logos. But after all this it freezes up at the purple wave. Tried booting into recovery no go. So now I've tried to flash it, here is another issue. When I try to get it into flash mode first the notification light turns green for a split second and then turns off completely. But I still try anyways, now flash tool will say device connected through flash mode yet it will not read the data of the device at all, so I'm like ok no problem I'll see if I can bypass this by inputting the actual phone in the flash menu. So I do that select the stock file and try to flash, it gets stuck on reading device. I am wanting to maybe use the flashboot mode but I don't know how to use that mode. Sooooooooo what do I do because I've beaten myself trying to figure this all out, so can someone point me in the right way. Also if I need to clarify more of this issue please let me know. Also I am using Windows 10 already ran into issues figuring out how to use drivers, but I fixed that.
Have you made sure its charged?
I maybe wrong but I am pretty sure you have to put it into fastboot mode first (blue light) then flashmode to use Flashtool.
tried sony pc companion?

So can I be pointed somewhere that I can just use flashboot because I can get into that mode no problems, I just don't know where the correct files are. Thank you for your time.

The answer is very simple.SCREW WINDOWS 10.
Just use another pc with windows 7,manually install xperia z2 drivers and do the drill with the flashtool.
Thank me when your done.
Turn off Windows 10 driver signature enforcement and then install the drivers again.

That's not the problem, I'll admit that was an issue at the beginning but I was able to install drivers. So it's not a driver issue.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do? Please
Just use the sony companion, it will work, had the same issue. If for some reason it fails, use windows 7 instead.
