Need help removing bootstrap - Motorola Droid RAZR

I've searched for awhile now trying to find an answer. I decided to root my phone the other week. Everything went fine. Ended up finding a bootstrap apk for "Razr ClockWorkMod Touch 5.8.4.5 Black Edition". I believe it was premature of me to go this route as it looks like safestrap is a better method. I can't seem to find any info how to remove this particular program. I'd really like to get this off my phone so I can look into getting a safestrap.
Currently running stock .211 rooted.
Thanks in advance for any help. :good:

Easy way, download razr utility 1.8.1 and do option 1 itll put you back to stock 211, when it.finishes choose to not wipe data and should have all ur apps and everything. Than use the utility to root. Cant remember what option it is. It say root and ics 4.0.4. That will make sure all necessary files are removed. Theres another way to do it with a root file manager, ive read of people bootlooping after going that way thays why i recommend the utility. Its extremely fast and reliable. Just make sure do option 1 and ot will say puah any button when screen comes back on, after 2/3 times of that, just let it do its thing. It will seem to stop, or get stuck but just wait it will finish and say you are stock 211. Please be patient and goodluck

[Q] Clockwork recovery won't boot.

I gained root access through superoneclick gingerbreak. It gave me the superuser app and i downloaded rom manager but whenever i try to get to clockwork recovery mode it keeps going to samsung recovery. No matter how many times I hit re-install packages it goes back to the samsung recovery. What did I do wrong? Should I have gained root another way? Should I try to flash back to 2.1? Please help I'm so frustrated.
first off dont use gingerbreak. Just odin back to stock and then root by installing the update package twice and after twice ur recovery should turn blue to green.
here follow this, use the eclair root guide:

no modded 3e recovery..so it will keep going to Stock recovery. You need to do what movie said or flash a voodoo kernel or flash a modded 3e recovery.
Interestingly enough I have the same problem, 100% rooted, super user access no issue, busy box installed, root manager installed.
I upgraded the 2.1 to 2.2 from the kies mini software.
I have been doing a ton of reading and would like to start flashing roms, etc etc.
Through titanium backup, I have un-installed a large mount of apps and have not suffered any problems as of yet, but would like to try some custom roms.
My question is, since I uninstalled alot of things, only apps that are bloatware, and since I can't get my clockwork recovery console to take affect, do I have to follow post #2?
Is this link the right one taken out of the link from post #2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
Is this the final and correct link, since I do not store data on my phone, and all contacts are on my sim card, and really haven't done any customizations to anything really, can I just odin back and not back anything up? All I use my phone for is calls, txt's and internet, I don't bookmark anything, I don't save txts and call logs mean nothing to me?
I assume I will have to re-root my phone again and do the same procedures, etc etc.
Also as a side note, I am a minimalist type of person, that's why I use linux at home, no windows of any kind (I'll do this procedure at work). Any roms out there that can handle my needs of simply calls, txt'ing and internet without all the other stuff? I don't use GPS, I don't facebook or social network, I don't play games on my phone. I do need however, the use of the camera and video recorder.
Thanks.
I would just follow my advice and odin back to stock its really easy and safe to do. Well if the only apps u have left are bloatware and u dont save anything else i guess u wont need to back anything up before odin. Well the thing its alot easier to root 2.1 then 2.2.
Once ur at 2.1 just do the root process of installing update package twice and after twice ur recovery will turn from blue to green.
follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9375927
the eclair guide
heres the steps for download mode just in case:
power off phone
pull out battery
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
So, is this the right link from the guide you posted, it's amazing, I read so many things today that It's easy to get a little well, brain farty, ya know.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
Also, I have the kies mini drivers installed, that's how I updated from 2.1 to 2.2 so I assume those will work fine?
BTW, this is the coolest community, props to all involved!!!
Now, I edited my post I think while you were replying, any rom suggestions for a simple user who likes minimal applications but just a well running phone that's not clogged to the gills with stuff?

Yep, that seems to be the consensus, thank you
Guys,
A huge thanks, odin'd back to 2.1, rooted, removed the bloatware I didn't want, gonna make a nandroid back, then proceed on to bionix.
I can understand how first time users can get nervous but once done, the process really is not that hard, just takes patience and making sure everything is prep'd before doing so.
I hope I can now help others if you guys don't beat me to it first
My only question is this: when I create my nandroid backup, where does it go and do I need to save it somewhere just in case like a usb key or something along those lines or does it reside on the phone. Only asking cause I have not yet done this step
U can always make a extra backup and store them on ur ext sd
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Okay, so I assume the backup, made from rom manager "backup current rom" gets stored to the internal memory on the phone?
Any special settings or it just does it's thing, should be smaller than normal as I removed quite a bit of junk and stuff.
i did what you said and i still cant get into clockwork recovery screen! i went back to stock rom, reinstalled packages twice and i still have samsung recovery. i know i have root because i get the super user asking me to give clockwork root access!
So I assume you odin'd back to 2.1, rooted have installed titanimum backup and busy box, rom manager, tapped the flash clockworkmod recovery, then "reboot in recovery" choose update. I rebooted via the rom manager menu, not via the phone itself. I had to update twice immediately, didn't reboot and do it again. I saw it installing and it kinda hung, then used the volume down to update again, and was completed.
Also after installing titanium there was an update for super user, which I also installed as well. Did you do this? Not sure if it has any bearing but thought it was worth mentioning.
It worked seamlessly for me, I had to update twice, then purple turned to green and all is well.
Can you post your steps you took to get back to 2.1, how you rooted, etc etc?
It's kinda fresh in my mind as I only did it about 2 hours ago.
my screw up after i flashed clockwork and rebooted i didnt apply package. all is good now. thx for all the info!
Anytime, I found the process to be quite interesting and taught me alot and also removed my fear of installing new roms and such.
Make sure to create your backup through rom manager. When you do, it will reboot into clockwordrecovery and show you the progress, didn't take that long for mine but I removed alot of nonesense from 2.1. This will be your emergency fall back, you might know this already but just making sure, as I am quite a noob at this point ROFL!
Enjoy
ps - I still can't decide on a new rom, I'm so fussy about stuff, ugh.

[Q] Do I have a brick?

Please I need answers to this issue, not people blaming me for being such a noob. I reprogrammed a Verizon Droid Razr for my colleague here in Nigeria, we both work for a CDMA network. The phone was fine, voice, text and data working until yesterday he told me the phone lost network. I asked him what happened before then and he told me he did an update (the ICS update), so everything went back to Verizon defaults and I needed to reprogram again. I got to reprogram it today but there was no data so I figured I would go back to GB 6.12.181 which the phone was on before the update. I chose DroidRAZR Utility 1.6 which I have on my laptop to do the job. After this my woes began. The phone now stops at the Motorola logo and after that goes blank. I tried again but it was the same response, and I discovered that the recovery changed too, and where I should hit both volume buttons to get the option to wipe all I see is automatic update inside recovery. I tried to remove the sdcard, but I guess the update file he received is in the internal storage. How can I get the phone working again, whether on ICS or GB, whichever would work. Or do we have a total brick? Please I need urgent answers. Thank you all.
Pls people, Help Me!
After Upgrading to ICS you CANNOT downgrade back to 2.3 again, part of ICS does NOT allow downgrading, if its CDMA and you can get to bootstrap you could flash the ROM again, use the sdcard in another device to copy the rom, but it MUST be ICS you CANNOT install GB anymore

Thanks for your reply lashton. Please can you point me to a guide on how I can restore the phone to ICS. It is stuck on Invalid Flash Mode now and the battery is low, but I want to make a factory cable to use tomorrow and see if I can get the phone working again. I just need to know this is possible to restore to ICS.
Thanks.
What you have is soft brick. And yes you will be able to go back to ics but now gingerbread. Look online there are plenty of people that have soft bricked their phones thinking they could just go back to GB. Lol including me. Happy digging! =)

Please dear sir Chuckleb0ne, kindly guide me on how to do this since you have experienced it before. I have only till tomorrow to get this working as the phone has my friend's official company line on it, he must be able to use it for calls tomorrow. Down on my knees, tears streaming down my eyes... pleading for help...
OK. I managed to construct a factory cable and it supplied power to the phone, so far so good. I tried to use Droid Utility 1.7 to unbrick (option 2) but it didn't work, I mean the fastboot flash went through but I still cannot go further than the Invalid Flash Mode screen, no matter what. I can't even go into recovery. That's a major issue, I think. If I could get into recovery I could sideload the ICS zip I copied on the sdcard with the Utility tool. I next tried option 1, which is Prepare for sideloading ICS on any GB. It didn't work either. Please people, what next before I go crazy. We do not have Verizon here so their support is out of the question, or even returning the phone. I must fix this, with your help, because I have run out of ideas here. Help needed!
Try to boot through BP Tools. The phone must be unplugged. If you can reboot that way then just rewrite the boot .img, I want to say its option 9? Kinda sounds like what happened with my phone, but after I saw the dead android with the door open I believe I could still get into stock recovery and side load .211.
Guys, I got it back on. I used DroidRazr Utility 1.6, 1.7 and this file - Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip, all three in combination. the blur file on my sdcard, fastboot restore to 181 with Utility 1.6, move into recovery, wipe data and cache, fastboot 211 boot.img from Utility 1.7, back to recovery, flash the blur file on sdcard... ladies and gentlemen, we have a working Droid RAZR on ICS 211. Happy mode activated...
Nice job ezeuba! I'm trying to find a way to get my RAZR back to GB because I HATE ICS. I've been using it for 2 days and I want to smash my phone. I keep finding people saying that it is not possible, although I have found 1 or 2 references stating that it may be possible but is very risky. I am willing to take any risk at this point as my phone is pretty much useless to me now anyway and it is at very high risk of being utterly destroyed. It amazes me how fast you can go from love to hate with a device. This fiasco reminds me of the day I "upgraded" from Windows XP to Vista. At least Microsoft left me the option to go back...
Question: When you did "fastboot restore to 181 with Utility 1.6", were you back to a working GB 181? Were you forced to move "up" to ICS or was it your choice? Thanks in advance for any information!
See! Once you do a little digging you come up with a solution. And now you probably feel incredible for doing it yourself.

To answer your question first, no I didn't have a choice to stay on Gb or move up to ICS. I only did fastboot to 181 with Utility 1.6 in order for the phone to even boot up to recovery. Prior to that I only had "Invalid Flash Mode" error, no recovery, nothing. So, after fastbooting 181 I got to recovery, wiped data and cache, went back to Utility, 1.7 this time, and flashed boot.img for 211, then went back into recovery and sideloaded the downloaded 211 update file on my sdcard. After that could I get full boot to ICS on the phone. No need dreaming of reverting back to GB, it's not possible, at least for now with a locked bootloader.

You are right. Nothing a bit of research would not solve, if you are really determined to get it to work. It was your assurance that it was certain to work that fired me up. I was afraid the phone was dead and about to be buried.
Thanks.
Thanks ezeuba! Fortunately ICS is starting to grow on me. I was able to load the old Gmail app which was my main issue and find some other workarounds for various other issues.

Leave it to me to prove a guide wrong that is not supposed to go wrong.

I upgraded my Razr to the early ICS release months ago. I did lose some features that I had came to love in gingerbread. The guide I used said that at the time it unable to be reverted back, so I just lived with it.
I used my son's Razr that used the OTA upgrade, and it had the other features working correctly, so I was wanting to go to the newest version.
I followed the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735935 and got the "Preflash validation failure" on a couple of lines and an unable to find cdrom error during step 5.
Now it shows the dual core logo, and goes no-where else. I can see that the screen is on if I turn the lights off, but I am not able to get anywhere. I have also read the atrix forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504323 about the errors. This site is becoming so massive that things are getting hard to find. I also followed some other suggestions on other sites, but still nothing.
There are so many people here saying that it was fixed in other ways, but I cannot tell which are considered out of date, and which I should try.
I do not currently care If I go to the newest version, or go to gingerbread and then accept the OTA from Verizon.
Please help.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Just fastboot to .211 then install .215 if you want. Done.

What do you consider the easiest way to flash a rom like one of these? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518519 I do like the verizon stock, I just hate the verizon apps being forced into my rom.
I do not mind reading and following directions if you can provide link I would be thankful, I am just so unsure with so many different people saying different things here and other sites.

I too like the stock version. What I did and found it works pretty good is use matts utility to root it. I think there's a specific version for .211 and one for. 215. Then get titanium backup and freeze all the bloat ware apps you don't want running. If you do someday want them jut unfreeze them, that easy.
From how I understand it, is freezing them pretty much disables them from starting and ever running, pretty much like they aren't even installed on there. This method has worked great for me and maybe saves battery because your phone never even starts them in the background. Also when there's an OTA I think it checks for certain VZW apps and if they're not installed it won't take the OTA. with TI backup you can just unfreeze them and take the OTA. Hope this helps.

I don't like to mess with the phone with leaks and custom roms.. So i use tibu to freeze things i don't use.
Remember, the key weird us freeze, nit delete or uninstall.. Or u will have hell of u need to update future ota..

Root, install safestrap 2.0, open app and install recovery, reboot phone, when greeted by new recovery prompt press menu button, in recovery create a backup, scroll down and toggle safe system (enable safe system aka dual boot from sd card), format system, wipe data and cache, install the rom of your choice and enjoy!
If you ever want to run stock rom again, just toggle safe system again from recovery (disable it)...phone will boot phone rom again.

Questions belong in Q&A

Sooper-N00b broke his phone. please help.

Ok, so I readily admit that I'm the jackass the n00b video was aimed at. I thought I understood what I was doing, and clearly didn't. Now I can't get my phone to do ****.
I was attempting to flash the new CM9 beta. First time I've attempted to flash anything.
was on 2.3.5.
rooted using the 2.3.5 root method.
SBF-ed to 2.3.4. (prob didn't need to root on 2.3.5 if I was going to sbf to 2.3.4, but I'm an idiot)
SBF went fine. then I messed up good.
at the end of Moon Shadow's SBF tutorial he said he recommends the full factory reset, so I did it.
so now...I have no phone service. looking at settings/about phone it doesn't know my phone # and I have no idea how to fix this. not sure what other problems will present themselves after that, but that's the big issue. I'm connected to my home network, so at least I have some data connectivity.
before starting...
I made a backup with Clockwork Recovery, but that backup seems to be gone.
I made a backup with Go Backup, and that seems to still be there, but it was a 2.3.5 backup...how can I get to that and will it fix my problem?
ideally right now I'd just like to go back to the Go Backup backup I made before starting any of this and then I can reconsider where to go next.
additionally, I thought about just going forward, but I cannot for the life of my figure out how to flash this CM9 ROM, despite having read the directions 15 times. I tried to use Clockwork to install it from SD, but when I try that I can't see the .zip, despite having copied it over.
Can anyone take pity on a n00blet, or point me to a thread with information on how to solve this (I searched and had trouble finding anything useful)?
Very appreciative of all help.

ok, noob found thread about activation and fixed that part.
now I'm hoping I can just go back to 2.3.5 and apply my backup.
Lol, first take a deep breath. Your phone is not hosed, it's actually working like it's supposed too.
After you sbf, you phone is back to it's factory state right? So remember when you got your phone for the first time you had to have it activated/programmed. If you're on Verizon then dial *228 and follow the directions, takes about 5 minutes. This will give you back service and your phone number.
Second, the droid x2 is unique and requires a few different steps than most phones to flash things because it has whats called a locked, encrypted bootloader. So with the X2 you will NEVER want to use Rom Manager (Clockwork Mod Recovery) or Rom Toolbox. They just do not work with our phone yet.
Your going to want to read this link: http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x2-support/41785-common-x2-questions-answers.html
It gives a good overview of how the X2 works and explains a lot of things.
Then go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318083
This explains how to install and get into the X2's special Bootstrap Recovery. This is where you will make backups, restore backups, and flash new roms. The thread explains in great detail how to make and restore backups in Bootstrap Recovery.
oh man, thanks a bunch lead off.
that whole deal with the boot strap is something that I never saw in all the reading I did and probably solves a lot of my problems. I'll do what you said (starting with the deep breath) and begin again.
thanks again for the help.
Yea no problem

[Q] Possible Brick?

Hi all -
I haven't rooted or changed roms on a phone in a long while, but used to be somewhat active in all the forums a few years back and consider myself as someone who generally understands this stuff at least on a procedural basis.
I have a DROID RAZR XT912 with Verizon Wireless... I successfully obtained root access tonight using the instructions and files in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230140 - All worked great once i figured out to turn off Mass Storage Mode.
Next i wanted to install another ROM... Either CM10/11 or SlimKat. To do so, I know I needed to install a custom recovery. I downloaded Rom Manager and found out that CWM wouldn't install on the RAZR. So i found this post and followed it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751826 - everything seemed to install just perfectly... I was got to the step to run a backup, did that and then rebooted. Upon reboot, i now get a message stating: Encryption Unsuccessful along with a long message about encryption failing and needing to perform a factory reset. I click that and the reset doesn't work. When i got to manually get to the recovery partition, i get a picture of Android on his back with a red exclamation in his belly.
I found this page and wondering if this is what i really need: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391900 ????
It really bugs me that there's not just one post to walk you through the essentials needed for this device. everything seems so spread out and you never really know what works until it doesn't.
Is there any kind of fix for this error???? not sure what my options are at this point.
Thanks for any help in advance!
