Hey guys, kind of a noob when it comes to this stuff, so go easy
So, I've rooted my phone and am currently running the official ICS update -- I currently have 4EXT flashed as my recovery and I was just wondering if there was any way to increase the built in storage space on the phone. The stats tell me that there is about 2.34 total available space on the internal SD -- which seems kind of small -- and I was just wondering if there is any way to increase that amount. I figured I would come here and ask first (tried searching for an answer, but no luck) before I royally screw up my phone. Thanks for any help!
Go to settings/storage to see all space

I believe you are looking at the system partition. There is another 10 gb of internal storage.
Go settings/storage to see the breakdown.
Hope this helps!

Hey guys, just got an HTC hero. I'm loving it, but I want to know how I can run apps off the SD card. I've tried looking all over this forum, all over the web, but I honesly can't find an easy to do guide without the worry of screwing up my phone.
I rooted my phone with the virgin guide in the other forum, and I downloaded 3.1-update-hero-modacocustomrom-core-signed.zip from one of the guides that I found. I managed to install it, but I still wasn't so sure how to use app2sd, even if it was installed, so I went back to my nand backup and I'm just on my normal rooted HTC Hero again.
Before people get angry for not searching around etc, I have, alot. I'm just a bit cautious doing things when I am like 40% sure I am doing the right thing. Even Haykuro Apps to SD is hard to follow. The only thing I want to do is give my phone more room for apps.
Please help, thank you.

Modaco's ROMs have auto A2SD. All you need to do is to partition your SD card in the correct way. This you can do from the Amon-Ra recovery menu.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124
I tried partitioning the SD card. 32mb for the swap part, and 256mb for the ext2 with the rest of the space going to fat32 for my files and stuff, but when i started attempting to install apps, i saw that the space in my internal storage was going down, and not the space on my memory card. did i do it wrong or something?
i've been trying to find partition guides, but none have helped so i just went with my gut. thanks.

How did you partition the SD-card? It's important to make the FAT partition first.

I tried starting again using this guide (can't post links, will PM)
Still.. when I install applications, the internal memory storage goes down and not my memory card. The only thing I didn't do on that guide was turn ext2 to ext3 on my computer because it didn't work, so I did it in the recovery system on android.
Thanks.

I've sent you a couple of PM's
Hi,
Recently rooted my hero after losing impatience waiting 6 months for htc to get their finger out.
Used cronosdroid and now using villianrom 10.2 final but will no doubt try out modaco in some point too.
Anyway, I would like to know if it is possible to save and run my apps from the sdcard?
I hear this will be possible using 2.2 but have heard that something called a2sd allows this functionality also?
If so, could anyone point me in the right direction to get a total noobs guide to installing and using a2sd and how I would then go about deleting the apps from the phone's internal memory and just running them from the sd card?
Many thanks for any help and advice you are able to share,
Cheers.
So you have already installed Amon Ra 1.6.2 yeah?
Check out BTDAG's guide in my signature,... The apps2sd bit is about half way down the 1st post, in grey writing.
I downloaded something called quick system info from the market and it says that a2sd is there giving me 457mb total and 423mb free.
I went through that long drawn out procedure (as a result of being on t-mobile uk) and used amon ra and created a gold card etc.
My Problem is, I dont know how to "use" this a2sd functionality.
I want to basically download from the market and save to the sdcard and run the apps from the sdcard and am unsure how to do this?
It doesn't do it automatically as I get to the usual memory low message after downloading 50-100 apps, so presumably the apps are still saving to the phones internal memory.
Basically, I want to know how to save and run from the sdcard and delete from the phones memory if thats possible as I think is the whole point of a2sd?

If you followed my guide correctly it will be working. You can check that with the other script in my guide. If you're still running out of memory it is because the dalvik is still stored on the SD card.
Ok,.. So you need to be using a custom ROM with apps2sd enabled. Then once that is on your phone, you just need to partition the SD (like it says in the guide)... thats it!

How do I move the dalvik to the phones internal memory?
I presume I followed the guide correctly as i've come from t-mobile touch g2 on 1.5 and am now using 2.1 villain rom and cronos rom before that but am still running out of memory, even with partitioning my sd card.
presumably then its the dalvik located on the sd card?

yeah thats because you didn't flash either Dalvik Cache to the SD card or Dalvik-Cache to /cache thats why your phone still taking internal memory .. try this for solution :- http://www.villainrom.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Apps2SD

wicked cheers for that mate!!!!
Hi guys. I've reached my breaking point on the anemic app storage space on our handy dandy little device. So far I've avoided any real mods for this device because I didn't want to start a new habit of flashing on the regular (been there, done that, fun but sometimes time consuming). But right I can't install any large programs without having the constant low space message. So if the only real functionality I need is an extended app storage partition what method would be best to achieve that. Thanks in advance everyone.

I think there is only one way: Urukdroid.
I thinks its the only way to extend app partition Try it
Okay follow up question, should I then get a ne SD card as mine is only class 2, or should I install on internal. Pros?cons? Again thanks

Install on sd card is better if you want more space on your tablet
But otherwise i prefer install on internal
There is a thread in here somewhere in which a fella found that gen8 devices keep a cache of old APK files. I cleared out that cache and it fixed all my maddening app storage problems. Look for that thread.
I tried finding the thread you mentioned with no luck, any idea what to search for?
I just spent a good 20 minutes searching and couldn't find it either.. weird. I'll see if I can't find the directory on my own when I get home.
Can you get a temp root? That's necessary.
Knowing there is an answer is half the battle.
I found .apk's in internal \Downloads directory and \system\APK. I didn't even have to use adb, just mounted the disks and used explorer.
I can confirm that deleting them doesn't hurt anything. However, there really wasn't that much and it didn't help my sort of storage issue.
I haven't tried this on my A101 yet, but Link2SD http://market.android.com/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD should work. You will have to create a second partition on your internal storage or SD card though.
Hi there,
I have recently purchased a SGA and am a keen techno geek so have been messing around and have installed the end ROM and CWM 5 + a few scripts and the phone seems to be working ok, battery drains in a few hours and the system seems a bit slow in general.
However I have been reading on here about formating the SD card and partitioning it etc so I was wondering if someone could give me a quick guide through on how to whipe the SD card format it corectly etc so that I know I have it all up and running corectly. I would greatly appreciate it! I have a 16GB SD card.
Kindest Regards
That's a lot of work you've done for recent purchaser of SGA..
Anyway, motive of partitioning SDCard is to use some of SDCard's memory as a Internal. So that you don't reach at the low internal memory problem.
Since you're using CyanogenMod based ROM, I would recommend THIS guide.
Its pretty simple.
Thank you!!!!!
I apologize if this has been answered somewhere else here before. I have been searching for days and have not found the full answers to my questions anywhere.
Recently I updated my GT-P7510 CM9 to an experimental CM10 from by pershoot. After getting it up and running I was looking at my internal storage usage and numbers didn't seem to add up (must have done a dirty flash at some point in the past to cause this). My internal storage in root explorer showed 8.93gb in use and 28.01 total storage. I copied everything to a USB drive to back it up and noticed there was only 7.45gb actually on the internal storage. I have seen this problem before on my S2, and I always just reformat the internal SD card (emmc) to regain the missing space. However, since the tab does not have a micro SD slot, I have no way of wiping the internal sdcard (data/media) without wiping out the rom too from how I understand it. Somebody correct me if I am wrong...
So, does anybody know of a way to successfully wipe/format the sdcard (data/media directory) in CWM or other method that will not wipe out the rom and send the device straight to cwm with no way to install a new rom? Or do I have to revert back to stock to accomplish the format of sdcard like I have read for a few other similar situations? Everything works fine (CM10 & CM9 both run awesome), I just want that extra 1.48gb of missing/phantom storage back. And, without mass storage mode, I cannot perform a disk check in win7. This has really got me frustrated to find a solution without having to start over. I wish this tab had a micro SD slot!
Currently I am running CM9 nightlies (7-31) for p4wifi (gt-p7510). My cwm recovery is version 6.0.1.0. Any help is greatly appreciated, and I do apologize if this has been covered before. Thanks in advance to those of you smarter than I.

Ok, I seemed to have figured this one out and now feel pretty stupid for not digging a bit further before asking.
After I decided to go ahead with the sdcard format using CWM, I noticed that the space was still being used somewhere. After I started to dig a bit, I noticed that all of my apps still worked after the format. Basically, the extra space is being consumed by the /data/app folder housing all user apps. CWM must be designed to ignore this directory when formatting the internal sdcard which is why there was still some storage being used.
I feel like an ubernoob for asking this, but my S2's internal sdcard is not mapped to data/media, so I had to learn a bit better about how this thing works I suppose. Anyways, I hope this information can be useful to someone out there having similar questions.

Although that is a similar problem, I asked if there is a way to fix it without going that route? I appreciate your reply, but I already knew it could be resolved by going back to stock (2nd paragraph of my post).

I can accomplish a full format of the internal sdcard on my galaxy s2 without it affecting the rom in any way whatsoever and it is running cwm 6.0.1.0 also. From how I understand it, the partitions are set up differently on the s2 and this device. The s2 has a separate partition for the internal sdcard making it possible to format via cwm. On this device, the sdcard is part of the data partition meaning wiping it will leave you with no rom installed and no storage on the sdcard. I think all versions of cwm can wipe the slate clean, it is just a matter of everything else being wiped clean also. But, if you are aware of a cwm that let's me accomplish this, I would love to find it. Thanks again.
