I am having this problem, whereby I downloaded a photo from a MMS sent to me, and it was stored in my Download folder in my Internal Storage. I used ES File Explorer and move the file (not copy) to my external SD card photo album, however the photo will not appear in my gallery under the same album. When I actually opened up my SD card using my computer, I actually found that the photo which I moved isn't in the album which I moved it to, and neither is it in the Download folder in my internal storage. Anyone able to help me on this?
I am using CM9 Stable, on Siyah kernel 1.5.2.

Kindly provide a more constructive answer. You know MMS isn't free and yes I can still see the file in exactly the same folder that I moved it to on my ES File Explorer, but just not in my gallery as well as PC.

That probably was the most constructive answer as everything else is guesswork and involves you searching the entire phone for the MMS in the hope that its not deleted .
Or carrying out the same task again as a test to see where the file goes to .

How about, read what I wrote in my question. I said, I saved the mms attachment and it is AUTOMATICALLY saved in Download folder in Internal Storage. How the heck will the MMS be deleted? I never mention anything about the MMS being deleted. I said, I moved the picture that I downloaded from the MMS from the Download folder in Internal Storage to my SD card, which is where I stored all my pictures. However the picture is nowhere to be found in my Gallery or when I searched for the picture in the folder in my SD card, however I can still see it in the same folder in the SD card when I go to my File Explorer. I can always re-download the photo from the MMS again because MMS isn't deleted unless I delete it myself, but I am just asking if anyone here has this issue too when moving files using file explorer on the phone itself. Dl. a media scanner from market to avoid reboot.the gallery only scans upon boot.
Try "photo gallery"(fish bowl),it's got the option to reactants and it's darn cool

I have had my Atrix since Feb and I just got a 16gb Class 10 Micro SD card for it.
Can I get some help on a easy way to move over all my pictures and videos and then make that the default location for new ones to go.

So if I do that and then go back and open "gallery" will all the photos and videos still be there? I'm thinking not because you haven't told the phone the new location. so yeah I guess I could drag and drop them anywhere but I will need to know how to find them after the fact.

I dont know for certain if it will show up in the Gallery, but I imagine it would. Either way, if you just go to Files you can select SD Card, then navigate your folders just like you would on the internal one.

it will find them, it did for me, and when I first used the camera after putting in the new sd card it asked if i wantd to move the camera save location there. it was painless really.

correct everything will be the same
Went to look at some pics off my SD card last night and realized that the phone had deleted them.
But what was weird, beside the fact that they got deleted, was that the phone didn't delete all my pictures. Out of about 200 pics, it deleted around 190 of them. Very strange.
Has this happened to anyone else??
Not I. The SD Card and the pictures contained should be virtually untouchable without direct user interaction. Did you possibly put them on the external SD? Are you trusting Gallery or did you check with a file manager as well? Lastly, have you used HTC sync or any other tool that could copy/backup these pictures(and maybe delete them after sync)
Same thing happened to me. Lost about 90% of my pics. Don't know how it happened. Was able to recover most of them using a program that is on hirem's boot cd.

I used ASTRO file manager to double check that the pictures were actually deleted.
I don't sync my phone with my computer so I don't know how the pictures would have been deleted.
Needless to say, it's very disconcerting that my SD card could be vulnerable to something like this. I can understand, somewhat, if it was the phones internal storage, but not my SD card.
Luckily I had backed up my SD card on my computer recently (copy and paste method) so I didn't lose too many pictures.

I would say keep your SD backed up and if it happens again exchange the phone.

as a backup method, you could use sugarsync. They have a 5gb free account and can back up all pictures and videos automatically.
Hey everybody, let me speak to this.
More than likely your pictures are NOT deleted.
This has happened to me several times. I'd open the gallery and would not see any of my pictures, save for a few that are on the Phone Storage.
All I did was 'unmount' and 'remount' the SD card in the settings menu under 'SD & Phone Storage.
I have not been able to pinpoint the exact cause of the external SD mount getting jacked, but it might be around the USB debugging, or setting your phone to usb disk drive mode.
Anyway, a quick unmount/remount, and all my pictures were back in the gallery. I hope the same works for you, good luck!
There was also an issue where if you where flashing boot.IMG through hboot they were being ereased. Check out dsb kernel thread over at team bamf.

I was just reading that thread!
I think they were talking about the internal card and not the external though. Still, something to watch out for. Always good to make a back up of everything before flashing.
in my gallery it shows images from my g+ account, but no others. is there a way to make it read from the sdcard?
3D gallery does read from SDcard by default, try moving it to /system/app and giving proper permissions.

nevermind. it is reading from the sdcard. i didnt realize things downloaded from dropbox were finding there way onto the system instead of sdcard! is this right? i thought dropbox would automatically move files downloaded from the cloud to sdcard

Dropbox downloads go directly to the SDcard , it creates a folder named dropbox in the root of your sdcard.

I agree, it should, but its not. I'm not near my device right now to tell you the exact path, but they are going to somewhere in /media in the root folder. I had to use root explorer to move an image from there to sdcard. I'll update this later with the path. I'm also going to look and see where the dropbox apk installed. I recently "8 restart" reset my device and ran the snowball mod root process. I may have geeked it up in the process. I may need to un-root and run the program fresh.
On a side note, I have never seen a device where so many people do the same thing and have so many different results. Even with snowball mod, I have some white on white menus. Such as adw ex settings menu and beautiful weather widget's settings menus.

Oh that explain better you have snowballmod which it has 2 mods to use internal space so you need to find apps that can access all your media apart of your sdcard, quickpic gives you that option instead of gallery 3D.

Im sure you got an answer to this already, I had this issue too, and my music wasn't showing in the music player either. I found a folder on my SDcard labled "my files" in this folder there are folders for pictures, music etc. I moved the pictures and music to the appropriate folders a BAM they all show up now.

Sooooo... I just discovered that this stoooopid-ass phone of mine is storing downloaded photos to the phone's internal storage instead of the SD card. Is there anyway to fix this? I don't even think it's possible to move those photos from the phone to the SD card since my laptop can't even find the phone's internal photo storage folder. Seriously? WTF?!?!

Please read the stickies and search before starting pointless threads. All of your issues are because you don't know what you're doing, and not the fault of the phone.

When you connect your phone to your computer, if you select media sync instead of hard drive, it will give you access to both internal and external sdcard from your computer.

Thanks... that takes care of that problem. I never even thought about using that 'Media Sync' option to find files. I still can't find a way to force downloading photos to the SD card though.

No biggie. I really wasn't too concerned with the 'Media Sync' thingy since I ended up deleting the downloaded photos from the phone's internal memory. That wasn't that big of a deal, however... I have bigger fish to fry with my original issue.

thanks for being cool - so where are you downloading the photos from? if you're downloading with the stock browser, you can go to settings, advanced, download storage, and change phone storage to storage card. Is that what you meant?

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. I use the Dolphin HD browser and SOMETIMES Google Chrome (which still has a lot of bugs). I have all of the settings set in the Dolphin HD browser to download photos to the SD card, but they still go to the phone's internal storage. If I remember correctly, Google Chrome doesn't even offer that option. It really doesn't offer it's users that many adjustments at all, actually.

don't know about chrome, but I use dolphin hd also, and I was able to change the download directory to the sdcard by going to settings, privacy and personal data, download directory, and changing that entry to /mnt/sdcard/ext_sd/download. Is that how yours is set up? I just tested it and its working correctly on my end.

Yeah, that's how mine's read. I don't see any other settings in the browser OR on the phone to change the directory path. I don't have this problem on any of my other phones. All the downloaded photos goes straight to the SD card. Oh well...

I recently added about 1k pictures to my sd card from my computer.
Now my gallery won't work.
Every time I open it, it says android process has stopped.
I've cleared media, gallery, works, and fixed permissions trying to get it to work.
If I clear my gallery it will work for 1-2 minutes then close.
I can use es explorer and access everything though.
All jpeg files.
It just hit me that they are named could that really matter?
Besides that I'm dumbfounded any advice would be great!

If you believe that the cause is the volume of the photos, try the following...
Turn off all cast sync,
Turn off sharing in the gallery,
Unzip the nomedia file and stick it anywhere on your SD card and internal storage where thumbnails abound, use it only after you read the threads out there on this topic...

Finally, you could check to see if there are dependencies that are needed for the gallery included with your rom. If you are using the stock TouchWiz gallery, I'm unaware of any.

Ok so I tried that, apparently I did something wrong or I don't even know.
When I put the nomedia file in, none of my pictures came up.
On the plus side my gallery didn't force close (stock gallery btw).
So I took the nomedia files out and still nothing (gallery still hasnt crashed though yay)
I can go to ES File explorer and look into my SD card and find my pictures. I can see them that way.
I cleared my gallery to see if that was the issue but still nothing.
I took a pic to see if that would do it. I have the pic I took, but all my sd card pics are MIA.
Fixed (for now anyway)
I took the micro sd card out and put it in my computer to transfer the files. (forgot to mention that)
Anyway I decided to unmount and remount the sd card.
now it works.
