hello there, guys and girls.
Im trying to root Galaxy SII, with stock ICS ROM.
I've downloaded the CWM and the Busybox Installer and copied both to an external SDCard.
the problem is that when I try to reboot the phone to recovery mode using Vol Up/Home/power combination, im reaching the "downloading, dont turn off your phone" message which wont progress any further. There is no option to choose to "apply update from external storage" as required.
please help!
thank you in advance,
Kirill

Samsung Galaxy S2 has three different boot method.
Normal boot method done by using power button.
You can also hard shutdown the device by holding the power button for 8 seconds, so you don’t need to do battery removal method.
Download mode is necessary for you to flash ROM or kernel.
To perform this boot method, you need to turn off the device.
You need to press and hold volume down, home button, and power button simultaneously.
If you succeed, you will see green download mode on your device.
You can also get into this mode by using USB Jig. You can get the Jig from ebay for few bucks.
Recovery mode, is used to boot recovery such CWM, of course you need to flash the recovery first.
By flashing CF kernel, actually you get rooted devices and also CWM recovery.
To enter this mode, you need to turn off the device first.
You need to press and hold volume up, home button, and power button simultaneously.
If you succeed, after the Samsung Galaxy boot, you will enter the CWM recovery menu.
If you installed custom ROM there should be a reboot into recovery options to get into CWM, so you don’t need to press the button combination

im trying to follow the guide i've found in order to root the phone with stock, unrooted ROM.
If you reeeeally wanna go to recovery.. Go to download mode, root it.. by then you can go to recovery with the 3 button combo, if not, u can always go to recovery via cwm.

Since we are somehow on the topic of recoveries, how do I reboot into cwm recovery manually? I press vol up, home and power button but it reboots into normal recovery. Any help?

Can I get into recovery mode without a working home button? My i9100 has a faulty home button, phone is stuck on a bootloop will not get pass the samsung logo screen. I can flash the phone in odin with a stock rom and finish with success but still get stuck on bootloop. I think if I can get into recovery to wipe data then the phone will boot all the way. Any help is appreciated. I've searched but have found nothing solid. Thanks!
Buy a usb jig off ebay. plug it in then turn your phone on and it will put it into download mode.

I can get into download mode by pressing and holding volume down + pressing and releasing power but still holding volume down when turning the phone on. But my question is, how do I get into recovery without home button?
Flash a matching Chainfire CF root kernel via Odin (phone in DL mode). This with install his Cwm app. Once rebooted, run app (give su permission), and choose to boot into either clockwork recovery, dl mode, or reboot.
Edit: But once in recovery, how do you plan to actually select anything when the home button doesn't work? ? ?

Oh dear without the home button it's hard to operate the phone. I think you can boot into recovery mode by using ADB, search on the forums or Google.
I would rather you have the home button replaced ot fixed.
Cheers!

Use can use QtADB to get into recovery - just tried, it works. But the option "flash zip" doesn't work, and of course,................
how do you plan to "select" anything if the home button doesn't work? ? ? Can't think of any way just yet.
---------- Post added at 03:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:49 PM ----------
If you have adb setup, and know how to use it;
1. Copy the Custom ROM.zip to your sdcard folder on the phone
2. Rename to "update.zip"
3. Run CMD and navigate to the sdk tool folder where adb.exe is
4. Run "adb reboot recovery" to enter recovery mode
5. Phone to boots into recovery screen
6. "apply: /sdcard/update.zip"
7. After finish, reboot into new ROM
Haven't tried it myself though on the SGS2 ..............
tried it, didn't work..
Lost my Home button after odin flash HELP
I am stuck a i9100 that has no home working home button after i botched my first odin flash. I can not seem to get the device to be recognized by ADB or ODIN now that its messed up. I can boot into the Android Recovery System e3, and i can move up and down in the menu, but the 'home' button i used to select options no longer works. I can not get it to boot out of that menu.
This is a Sprint branded i9100 from the United States... tho when i got it, it was already 'rooted' with Gingerbread-Eg30 however it did not state the firmware version. So after i used ODIN to ref lash it... it rebooted and killed my home key... Now i am not sure what to do. ADB is not finding the device listed and I can't seem to get it to take a rom. Any suggestions?
Prior to flashing this rom in odin i had a working home key which was used as part of the 3 button combo to ender flashing mode or to select an option in the stock recovery menu.
Any help would be great!

I am having the same problem. My I9100's home button doesn't work. I had cyanogenmod 10.1 and cwm recovery installed. Used the button saviour app to operate a virtual home button on screen. Updated to cyanogenmod 10.2. nightly yesterday. All seemed working. Today I found that some apps like Google Play and ROM Manager would crash on when started. So I thought I go back to cyanogenmod 10.1. Started the installation of 10.1 from the "about this phone" settings because ROM Manager crashed and I couldn't boot into recovery from the crashing ROM Manager.
So, I now flashed a stock firmware from samfirmware.com with ODIN (because I can get into download mode with the USB-Jig), but that stock rom stucks in a boot loop.
Any suggestions? I believe, I am stuck in boot loop because I couldn't wipe the phone before flashing. Is there any way to wipe it in download mode?
Or can you be more specific, how to flash a "full wipe rom" and post a link where I can download such a rom?
1. Don't use rom manager on i9100, sure way to screw things up /brick.
2. Get the hardware sorted before you muck around with software. As you have found out, it's easy to get into a situation where you need the hardware to function correctly.
3. Download JB leak (stock firmware) from samfirmware and flash it via Odin. It's a 3 part firmware, and will wipe as it flashes.

If you tried the methods above with no joy it obviously isn't installed. With the cwm you are trying is there a .bat file in the download on your computer. If so while your phone is plugged into PC run the bat file and follow onscreen instructions. Then try launching cwm again. If you havnt managed it yet leave a message and I'll find it.

I am posting here as I am facing the same problem.
I have been following this guide to flash my phone with CM10 from ICS stock rom.
h#ttp#://androidlegend.com/xperia-s-update-to-android-4-1-jelly-bean-with-cyanogenmod-10/
I have successfully followed everything done previously, including Unlocking the bootloader, getting root access, installing busybox, using RecoverX to install CWM.
I copied the FXP150-cm-10.1-20121209-UNOFFICIAL-mint.zip to sdcard, is it this that is required to flash to ROM or the boot.img that is inside the zip?
And I am stuck on that part where I have to reboot into recovery mode. I have tried
a) Connecting my phone and opening fastboot mode and then try to keep the vol up pressed to open recovery mode.
b) Without connecting, powering my phone on and pressing volume up. But there is no blue LED
c) Without connecting, powering my phone on and continuously tapping on sony logo. After that Xperia logo.
But I can not enter the recovery mode.
A little guidance please?
Flashing CM needed a seperate kernel. Keep following the instructions to use fastboot to flash the boot.img
Power the phone off. Hold vol + then plug the USB cable in. There should be a blue light.
Poorly written tutorial IMO. Should be flashing kernel first then the rom to save some panic.
I asked the Sony-Support, they say that there is no recovery-mode.(for Xperia U, but they are the "same")

Guys, dont ask Sony cause stock ROM doesnt have recovery.
If you want to flash CM you must fastboot the boot.img inside the zip file, before that put the ROM into your phone memory, power on the phone and keep pressing vol up, enter into CM recovery and flash rom from phone memory. Wipe before and after.
Agree, stock ROM doesn't have Recovery Mode. When you turn your phone with VOL_UP, nothing happens :cyclops:

try flashing it again, maybe your first flash had an error.
Met the same problem and here what I did:
-Take off the battery in 10 minutes and put it back
-Plug the charger into the phone and do the logging in CWM steps (press and hold the volumme up, press the power button).
Finally it worked, hope this can help
Hi. My galaxy note is getting stuck on boot screen.
To begin with I was using Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 and had rooted my phone with CWM 6.0.3.1. Then I used it to flash CynogenMod 9.1. Then I used it to flash CM 10.2 . After this when I tried to reboot in recovery mode by pressing volume up+home+power, phone didn't go into recovery instead it just did a normal reboot. Then I enabled advanced reboot option by enabling developer developer setting and selected recovery option after pressing power button and selecting reboot. This time the phone restarted but neither went into recovery nor did a normal reboot. Instead it got stuck on galaxy note logo screen and that's the way it's till now.
It tries to reboot when I press either volume up+home+power or just power button but keeps getting stuck. It does go into download mode though when I press Volume down+home+power.
Someone please let me know what should I do to go back to safety. This is the first time I am trying to do any kind if rooting/flashing stuff.
Thanks.

I have the international version of note i.e GT-N7000 actually. I posted this issue here as I couldn't find correct forum at that time. Though have posted it to N7000 forum now @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44977074#post44977074
(I have discovered now that posting duplicate threads violates rules )
But anyways I am unable to boot into recovery even by pressing buttons mentioned by you. I am thinking of flashing Philz CWM6 kernal using ODIN through download mode and then flashing CM10.2(or CM10.1 if the problem lies with CM10.2).
I had flashed Philz CWM6 kernal before flashing with CM 9.1. But after CM 9.1 was flashed I think it replaced Philz touch recovery with its own recovery. After that I flashed CM 10.2 with this recovery. Now I don't know if CM10.2 is the problem or the recovery which overwrote Philz recovery
I hope I get an answer to what went wrong so as to be wiser when flashing a new ROM next time.
Hello all, I need some help with my new phone
Phone is an AT&T Optimus G E970
Phone was rooted and unlocked by myself... everything was ok!
After testing some roms, i have now lost the ability to enter recovery mode. After I press up + power button it will go into fastboot, but when y press down twice it will show the android logo with the chest open and a red triangle above... the weird thing is that the phone boots up fine with the last rom I flashed (wifi not working though).
Tried root checker and it said i am rooted. try to enter recovery from rom manager and it does nothing... would appreciate any help i can get from you guys
Bump
Sorry, but i am desperate to have this phone working at its full potential...
Try flashing recovery IMG file using flashify.
It sounds like you're using an older bootloader, which does not display the options.
Vol Up + Power enters Bootloader, not recovery. When you get to the screen with the android, press Vol Down Twice and then Power. This should get you in to Recovery.

That is what i tried doing... please look at the pics i attached... I can get to the bootloader at least. I also tried to re-root but i will need to change from "Charge Only" to "MTP" and the rom that's on the phone now ([ROM][KOT49H] AOSP-GEEB 4.4.2_r1 [Dec-13]) does not have that option. What i want to do at this point is flash the recovery by any means possible so that i can install a stock JB at least. OR some other way of rooting which i think will fix the What would you recommend?
I rly appreciate you looking into this for me
