Evo 3D vs. what? - HTC EVO 3D

Moving to Solavei/Tmobile soon and don't want to spend a fortune. What's a phone that is at least a lateral move to the 3D and a good price to pay for a used one? Trying to stay around $300-$400. I can get a used Iphone 4S for about $375 which is tempting but have heard it is a huge step down? My main uses are gmail, flash video, and surfing.

I second that, the sensation is the exact counterpart to the 3D, minus the 3D

If you're staying with Sprint, then the evo lte.
Read, Search, Read again, ... Then Ask with Tapatalk 2

Most definitely the Sensation, only differences are that the sensation has a slightly concave screen and a slightly smaller battery capacity

Yes I'm staying with Sprint but.......regardless of the carrier, what is the new phone to get. Like when the 3D was coming out?????
Isnt the Evo LTE the same but it has the LTE connection speed?

From what I hear, the lte is faster, better camera, etc. It also has sense 4.
I've heard that the razr max is great on Verizon and had awesome battery for a smartphone.

Sensation also has less RAM.
EVO LTE runs on dual core Qualcomm S4 (krait) while EVO 3d runs on S3 which is a lot slower than the S4 also there is more usable RAM on LTE

YOU SIR....have sold me on the EVO LTE....good job. Looks like I know what I'm getting....LOL

And from what I remember theres dual channel RAM in the new EVO with higher clock frequencies.
P.s ....The quad core galaxy s3 might be a better choice over EVO LTE .
IMHO if you are sprint get the galaxy s3 though it is dual core (same as EVO LTE ) it has twice the ram.
Also the adreno 225 GPU supports DirectX 9 (dont know about adreno 220) so it will be able to run win 8 in some way.

If it does come to sprint with lte would it support Wimax as well? Has anyone heard anything about lte phones also having Wimax?
On another note... Is lte on the 800Mhz band? I thought I seen somewhere that it was. If it is on 800Mhz, will the Evo 3D be able to get it since the 3D is compatible with 800Mhz or would it be completely different since its lte?

No lte will not be on 800mhz band till much later after they fully shut off Nextel users to the new cdma ptt.
As for dual Wimax/lte I doubt it as they'd of said that instead of just first lte phone. I'd imagine only way you see dual is from say HTC using the same boards in a sense we do now but have the new snapdragon chipsets as they have lte built into the die itself....suppose to be huge battery saving having it built directly there too.

It's nice to see the Gnexus will be on sprint, but really? Just releasing a phone that's already 6 months old? They could improve the hardware, but that would be unlikely. I don't even think they will clock the processor at 1.5Ghz. Remember what happened with the Nexus S 4G? It'll probably be like that.
I hope they released some other phones with it like an Evo LTE or some other LTE phone with beast specs.

With LTE coming this year to the Atlanta area and no firm launch date, I will be more focused on as yet unannounced quad core LTE devices announced in the summer.

The newer devices will NOT have tri-band radios. It will be one or the other (CDMA/LTE or CDMA/WiMAX). Sprint announced that themselves.
+1 - Exactly current Sprint phones will NOT support LTE, and new LTE phones will not be comp with the WiMax network... However CLEAR will offer several WiMAX/LTE Devices when the LTE Tower Radio Swap begins... Sprint will be using Clearwires LTE for the majority of Q3 12 thru 2013 when they begin to sell and push LTE, then maybe will begin the PSB Band push to LTE once the Nextel Network is completely closed down. I don't see any rapid movement by sprint to push lightsquared into there realm of things in fact Sprint just infused Clearwire with more money to keep service till 2016 .. so I think it is really slow going from here with sprint and its own LTE ... Our 4G service will be on CLEAR for some time to come...

[Q] 4G Speeds

Anyone with the Amaze 4G on T-Mobile USA notice much better download speeds compared to the Sensation and even Galaxy S II Titanium? Staying in the exact same spot and even within a few seconds of putting the same SIM card into other phones such as the Sensation and Galaxy S II the Amaze consistently outperforms them in download speeds.
What makes the Amaze so special that it can do this when the other processors on the above listed phones are quite comparable are they not? Even in terms of RAM and all running gingerbread?
It's a better phone

Amaze will perform better than Sensation because Amaze utilizes dual cell HSPA+, or in plain terms you can say faster 4g coz Sensation is also 4g . Anyway you can read about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual-Cell_HSDPA
Not sure why is it faster than gs2 coz both of them use the same technique and have same chipset, so same modem...could be because Amaze radio firmware be better optimized or just better suited in your area than gs2's but ideally it should be same or something close by..

Same thing happened to the Evo 4g when all the new products started rolling out. With the addition of new LTE devices it was only a matter of time before the 3d became a free phone for 2 years of service. I still love the 3d though, came from the 4g as an insurance replacement and it's still going strong. All I need is a fully functional ICS rom and I will be ok until July when I am up for an upgrade.
I got mine free about two months ago. Bestbuy was giving people who upgrade $50 towards their new phone. The phone was on sale for $50, making it free. I called sprint while driving there and said i was upgrading to the s2, but i said i could barely afford it and was asking for some help. They gave me an extra $25 credit and waived the activation fee

Well the Evo 3D dropped in price in most countries. Even though its an better smartphone then HTC Sensation, its cheaper now to then the HTC Sensation. The Evo 3D which was first more expensive is now kinda cheap for an smart phone off its specifications.
I see many off you just get the phone with an contract, just like many in The Netherlands do.
Well, I hate to say it but the 3d was indeed a flop (in the business sense) , especially in contrast to the 4g which was an astounding success. The 3d should have been marketed as being sleek and fast but was instead marketed only as being 3d capable which to most consumers.....just didn't fly. After all, whether you like 3d capabilities or not, it's still just a gimmick that didn't take off.

I bet if the HTC Evo 3D was cheaper then the HTC Sensation then many would have just chosen for the HTC Evo 3D.
Now many needed choose between HTC Sensation which was cheaper and HTC Evo 3D and then they needed choose between 1080p 2D video with HTC Sensation or 720P both in 2D and 3D with HTC Evo 3D.
I guess price the Evo 3D got now it should start selling better.
I'm VERY glad that it failed to advertise as 3D feature and not it's Specs, thanks to that i've got my EVO just for 250euros, gsm unlocked. One of the best phones atm on the market, unless buying ONE X instead , no other phone is worth changing for Evo.
When i check differences in EVO and Sensation for example, my face goes like :
EVO 3D , 250euros, dual core 1.2 ,
Sensation XE Beats, 500 euros, dual core 1.5
Sensation XL beats, 530euros, single core 1.5,
Looks like its all about advertise and looks even in current century, 90% of customers never look at Specs or even understand what anything means.
God bless American education and fastfood.
All of Sprint's phones are free on Amazon except the iphone4
I imagine Sprint wants to EOL as many Wimax phones as possible. While they will still support Wimax for a while after their initial LTE rollout, they don't want to be adding to the people who use Wimax; they want to save those people for LTE. Sprint is in a bad place right now, and they need as much money as they can get. Moving out older devices and focusing on newer, more powerful, LTE devices is the way for them to gain what they need.

In the Netherlands you can also still get ''free'' phones, only in past you could get an high end device like HTC Desire HD with a contract where you pay in 2 years about € 600.
But that you can forget now, it will atleast cost you 900 euro and you get an contract where you first get an period discount and after that you need pay much more.
So I believe buying your phone without contract can be cheaper.

My feelings exactly. I bought my OG EVO 4G from some guy and got an EVO 3D on an insurance claim (I accidentally wiped the WiMax keys, and I wanted an EVO 3D anyway). I've still got my original upgrade credit from when I signed up. I'll wait until HTC releases LTE phones before I use my credit. I love my EVO 3D, but WiMax is not in my area. the evo 3d is still good, not the best phone possible obviously but more than "good enough" with this update, I dont think that I will upgrade at least for six months more, probably next year.
my money now will go toward a new tablet instead of a new phone.
ICS is nice but the New Camera, Kickstand, S4 Krait, 16GB, HD Voice, LTE, NFC and Sense 4.0 with the new EVO is really tempting.
If anything, ICS/Sense 3.6 made my 3D go up in value.
I'm going to need a Sprint leak or final before I actually sell though. Can't roam with the current VM leak.

I think Agrabren mentioned something about finding an exploit in the S4 chip and stated that REVOLUTIONARY will only support qualcom chips. We should be in good shape with or without HTC's unlock, though I doubt Sprint will restrict unlocking.

The OneX is unlockable even on AT&T. HTC announced they understood that customers were very upset that they could not unlock their devices and decided to make all new phones since the 3d, unlockable. As far as sense3.6, I'm not that excited about it. Sense 4.0 is still way much better. I'm going to get the OneX when it comes to sprint in June. But the name is going to be changed, adding it to the evo family. I hear its suppose to be the best evo yet, even topping the Evo4g LTE. I'm excited.

[Q] Upgrading to a new free phone; Suggestions

So my upgrade on my EVO 3D comes up tomorrow, I was going to get one of the free phones on my upgrade. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for which one I should get. Heres what I've been leaning towards.
Samsung Galaxy S III:
+Good phone, I know people that have them and they aren't bad
-No LTE, I use my phone network for a lot of things.
HTC Evo 4G LTE:
+Going from an EVO to an EVO is good right?
-Worried about the battery life, I got hurt by my 3D and don't want to see it go that way again.
Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE:
+Full Keyboard; Also had an Atrix before my 3D, so I'm used to motorolas bass ackwards rooting and hacking and whatnot
-From what I can tell the screen is really crappy. Does anyone know if this is true?
Is there something that I'm missing out on as far as free sprint phones goes? What do you guys suggest?
Ive came away from htc and went for a samsung s3 and I can honestly say im really happy with it plus rooting is easy all the roms are good and battery life in some are awesome. The only thing I miss from htc phones is the clock with the weather changing on the phone

I wouldn't recommend Motorola Photon Q.
So try deciding between Galaxy S3 or Evo 4G LTE.
In your place i would choose S3 as many people have it thus greater support on XDA but if connectivity on LTE means much more than that then go with HTC Evo 4G LTE.
Or simply, flip a coin. Not because the coin will choose for you, but because, in that split second, you'll know what side you want it to fall on.

lol, I've been leaning more towards the S3 already. Does anyone know what kind of speed difference I would possibly see in the San Diego area? Also, would it be worth it for me to wait till I have some extra cash? Is the S4 a big improvement? Or is there something else worth it?
If I had the opportunity I would jump to s3. The phone is better than the other two all round and the support is better too.

Since when do GS3's not have LTE? Also the EVO LTE is great on battery from my experience.

The LTE connectivity in the EVO LTE sucks donkey butt. It won't connect in places were my GS3 connects with no issue. Supposedly the One has the same problem too.
