[Help] Cannot connect to Camera Error, Rooting and Modding - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I am totally new with Android phones. I got My Dell 3 days ago from a friend. I already know that the camera isnt working. I traded my iPhone 3gs 32gb to his Streak, which is the phone I am currently using right now. I went to 3-4 Local technician down the Metro, they told me this is already a HW failure. The can fix this at $35, yet I dont want my Streak to get into Surgery without making sure there isnt any cure for it. First of I do not know what is the purpose of modding or rooting the Android phone. Ive seen Streaks on youtube that are fast on one touch to another application without hanging. I do not see that capability on my Streak. That's why I got jealous and kept asking my head questions, on how they did that.
For a newbie like me, Id like a step by step walkthrough on wha the Do's in rooting and modding customs for my Streak. What ROM, MODS should I be downloading. Any recommended Rooting Step by step procedure for Newbies and modding is one of my request. What MOD should be installed?
Lastly, does this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1834458 help me fix my issue on my camera? I read this thread however, I seem to not know what exactly they were doing.I d like to know If I could do some tweaking for the problem that I have specially with your guys hep. Please help a fellow XDA Newbie. :thanks:

when your friend said the camera not working.. did you ask him when it is started not working? and how did it started not working?
by the way... usually the problem would go away by going into streakmod recovery.. and wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache.. and possibly do the factory reset...
or just go into settings > applications > manage applications > all > camera
and select clear data...
if you tried everything and nothing works.... maybe you can try upgrading to GB and see if it helps...

I would appreciate how would I be able to do those steps you mentioned. Im really clueless about how to do it on this phone. He said it just stop working. He was just taking pictures and after he downloaded some games off G-Play, then the cam suddenly went away and quit working.
What do you mean upgrading the GB? How will I be able to wipe cache and Dalvik cache? I tried to Fully system restore it by pressing the up and down volume keys and the power button but it still is saying the same error on the camera.
How can I do streakmod recovery? I really appreciate your reply. And hoping for XDA Streak owners for your help. I dont know anywhere to go through from here. A friend told me you guys are the best with this, Hope anyone out there can help me. Please.. Thank you.:crying:

on the development section find the DSC 1.4 thread the first 2 posts have all the info you need, to go from stock Rom to DSC , which is a custom Rom, and more advanced in features compared to the stock Rom, plus much better battery life, better control over your mobile, upgraded to ginger so both your cam with work normally, plus is active in development so for any kind of problem there is someone to respond, which is not the case with stock find Rom.

If you have a fresh and clean DSC install (meaning all caches cleared etc from streakmod menu in fastbootmode), before judging if is a hardware issue or not, try to use the default camera app provided with the ROM (in case you are using a dedicated app for that). Then you need to learn a little about getting a logcat file, easy thou , in terminal app :
1.
$su
#logcat > /mnt/sdcard/logcat.txt
or from the pc
2.
adb shell logcat > logcat.txt
the logcat file should reside where you have the adb binary installed
then attach it here
better direct this issue in the DSC development thread, as folks over there are much more professional then in general forum.

I am also having the same problem with the "cannot connect to the camera issue".. Is updating via the update.pkg provided by support.dell.com will solve the issue? Please help I really don't know what to do..

Girlfriends Fascinate just decided to randomly stop doing anything except showing lights on soft keys after rooting and lag fix. Decided if I've got to restore should try this. First flash I got stuck at a similar issue after VZW logo. Wiped data and cache and was able to boot but entered in to FC hell. Working on flashing back to stock Odin posted in other thread as we speak.
Update: realized I had only wiped data and not cache as well. after doing that was able to flash back to stock, trying this once more.
Update 2: No go, still FCing like crazy. Flashing back to stock.

I had the same issue. Install stock and then Angels. Wipe cache only and it should work. If you cant activate Google do a reset in settings and all is fine.
I'm sorry, but that's exactly what I experienced rooting and running the lag fix on a Vibrant. There is something flawed with the lag fix. I don't know what it is, but this is the 4th experience I've read about that's the exact same as mine.
Could Samsung change the file system with an OTA update? Is that even possible?

All the lag fixes have some issues right now. The best lag fix will come once samsung releases the source code for our phones. See here: http://project-voodoo.org/

[Q] Atrix will only boot if Honeyatrix is installed

(SOLVED) hello neighbors. I am having an issue... my atrix will only boot if i install honey atrix on it. i have tried many other roms. many different times. i have wiped all data cache partitions, dalvik, battery stats, formatted system, dat, cache. And still i can get nothing to boot besides Honeyatrix rom.
it seems to load them from the zip file ok just wont boot past the unlock dual core screen. i have let it set for 10-20 min to see if it will boot and nothing.
i had recieved this under warranty and it was shipped with the new 2.3.6. 4.5.91 and i rooted and unlocked using the unlock tool v.4.
any help with this would be greatly appreciated
thanks in advance,
SErooted
Try a full wipe with fastboot before flashing. Also may need to flash appropriate kernel. What ROM's have you tried?

ive tried cherry pie, algorythm, cm7, neutrino, miui many of them, and i have never had this problem with my other atrix. just this one doesnt seem to be want todo anything but this one rom. and i have done a full wipe in moto fastboot as well. i forgot to mention it earlier.

your recovery is the problem install rom manager from market and update cwm or try romracer recovery.
Could also be the baseband radio. If that doesn't fix, looks like its time for the dreaded sbf.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
I would also use the latest romracer recovery or twrp from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400641. Also be sure to use appropriate kernel for the rom you are flashing and try the stock clocked kernels first. Good luck.

hmmmm I wondering on this one if his internal might be mal-partitioned.. I had this problem and was cured using mini tool partition wizard. Start off by making sure all's formatted fat 32 primary. Once you're assured of that, format again, fastboot - w and reinstall something like neutrino. Twice for good measure. Boot it , wait 60 seconds, pull battery and reboot. Lemme know bro if that helped..

Thank you for your ionsight into this. it really has been bothering me.
ok everyone.... thank you all for your help in getting the matter resolved. it was an issue with recovery and i am now running with twrp instead of cwm or tefnar. miui is now running and am going to see what kinda fun i can have with it. Thanks again everyone!!!

[Q] HELP! My galaxy s2 randomly shuts down!.

I've been experiencing a random shut down on my phone since i started using custom roms. Ive been using Resurrection Remix (currently 2.3) and this problem has always been there. I already do the 4 wipes before installing the new versions (to have a clean install) so i dont think the wipes will help me here. Another thing i noticed is that when it shuts down, it gets REALLY hot until i power it on by pressing on the power button for about 5 seconds. Also the battery drops drastically. So please tell me what could solve the problem!.

Please excuse the rediculous response above me, this person obviously has some superiority issues they need to deal with, Now, the most reason for phones getting hot like this is that you possible have a misbehaving application or some files left over on your sd card from a previous rom.
The most common problem when installing a new rom is that the roms have different file structures and so when you install a new rom this file structure incompatibillity causes issues. You need to wipe and format both internal sd card and external storage. Best do that from recovery, go into storage options and then format sd card, format mmc.
Now, connect your phone to your pc via usb. Now in recovery mount sd card, mount system. Now transfer your Rressurection rom.zip to sd card. Now unmount sd card, unmount system and then disconnect usb from pc. Now flash the zip from recovery. After the rom.zip has been flashed, go and reboot system. Once you reboot system and your phone boots up, give it +-5 minutes just to settle before you configure everything. All should now be mellow. If it is not just give me pm and I will personally try to assist you. And if that fails, we can always hookup skype and I can see your phone via webcam and diagnose the issues directly.
Please know that what the above person said by no way reflects the general attitude at xda, most people are kind and helpful and try to make the world a better place. Good Luck bro and I hope you come right.

Hey bro, thanks a lot for ur help! .. about wiping and formatting, doesnt that mean i'll lose all the stuff on my phone? *pictures, music, apps etc..* ?
Yes formatting will erase everything, so save your stuff first.
Also I say first flash a New ICS stock ROM using Odin, or just the modem, as I find modem and kernel Both responsible for heat issues

I'll revert back to resurrection remix 2.2 as it uses cm9 kernel.. if it works fine then i'll know it's the kernel problem.
Oh, btw i use Titanuim back up to back up my apps.. if i copy the titanium back up folder on my computer then format the sd card then put it again, will it work properly and restore my apps again?

Bro it is not what you say but how you say it, you are being self righteous, arrogant and your attitude basically stinks. Remember others are also just starting up and insensitive unsubstantiated comments like yours makes them feel really bad. How would you like it if someone responded to your innocent question with, just dont flash a custom rom.

Neither do i believe in karma just to do unto others as you would have done unto yourself. Anyways bro i got better things to do than educate you on ethics and compassion. If you dont get it now you never will. Have a nice day. Conversation Over.

Galaxy S2 Random Shut down
I am experiencing a similar problem, though my issue is with the official 4.0.3 build.
I'm running 4.0.3 on Galaxy S2 (UK), phone is crashing randomly, only way to turn it back on is to remove battery and start again. On my 2nd handset as I've sent it in for repair once, got given a replacement hand set, due to them damaging my original handset (another story), only had this 2nd handset a week and same thing has started happening again.
Is anyone else having this problem, I'm starting to think it's the ICS 4.0.3 build, not playing nice. Any suggestions?
Thank you all in advance for your help.

Thanks.
I have edited my post and added more info.
So... is this solved?
I guarantee if it isn't it would be by wiping data/factory reset + wipe cache + wipe dalvik cache and flashing the latest version of a reputable ROM.

I think so as well. If not fixed by that then the only other alternative is a hardware fault.

I have done these three wipes befor flashing the last rom.
But could you suggest me a reputable ROM. and post its link please.
Well it sounds like an .apk problem.
Try: WanamROM for stock or RootBox2.1 if you want to go down the AOKP/CM10 route.
> G S II Android development. I'm sure you can find them yourself.
What is an apk problem?
I am having exactly the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy S2. I bought mine at T-mobile, it is a T-mobile branded phone, less then a month ago.
I did a factory reset a couple of times. That did not help.
I have not flashed my phone or anything like that. I do not even know what flashing is!

Try to do one of these solutions for the problem
Settings) application) running services) show cached process) camera) stop and clear data. Test your camera.
or
Settings Select Applications / Manage Apps Select Manage Applications Select All Select Camera and/or Android Camera Select Force Stop and Clear Data Turn your device off and back on. Test your camera.
or
If that did not work, please do a Google services reset:
Please go to Settings Select Applications Select Manage Applications Select All Select Google Services Framework Select Clear Data. Turn your device off and back on. Test your camera.
I still have the problem but maybe it will work for you.
I hope it will
Thanks a lot for your advice. Unfortunately it didn't work
What I find weird,is if I clear all data,it says 0.0 kb but after restarting my phone,it says 4.0 kb. Like it didn't cleared any camera data?
I am afraid there isn't anything left for me to do then go to a Samsung servicepoint....

I deleted all the files and directories in storage and then did a factory reset.
After that I can use the camera for a short while.
When I rebooted the phone, the camera goes blank screen again :crying:
So, anyway, this is likely a software problem and not hardware.

Are you quite sure its a software problem?
I've been facing this quite a few months. Problem started a few months after rooting with CF-Root and flashing Cyanogenmod 9 nightly(was working fine for few months). Since then have reflashed kernel (tried many Siyah kernels). It would work a while then become black screen again then again work sometimes.
Flashed Cyanogenmod 10. Would work intermittently now and then.
Finally flashed to stock official ICS ROM. Didn't help. Works for a while after the wipe and again a while if i do factory reset. But problem still persists.
Let me know if you find a solution. I'm really frustrated

[Q] Did I brick my Galaxy Vibrant?

I have a T-Mobile Galaxy Vibrant that was running Android 2.1. I rooted the phone (successfully), and installed Slim Bean 4.2.2 plus Google apps. Everything was going smoothly and I was reinstalling apps and data when I noticed that I had no network phone connection. Slim Beam did not seem to recognize the sim, and I came up empty searching for networks. I removed the sim and put it in another phone, and everything was fine.
I decided to restore the previous android 2.1 (which I had backed up) using ClockWorkMod Recovery. I did restore, then reboot. Now the only thing I get is the initial screen ... Vibrant and Samsung in bold white letters. I have tried repeatedly to launch CWM Recovery, without success.
Is it time for a new phone?
Thanks!

If you can't go to cwm menu as well than I guess a jtag is needed. Or there may be some other solution, try digging through the net... or the experts in here can help u as well

Are you able to get into download mode? I would recommend taking a look at this video if your unsure how to get into download mode https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...f1zo4TtaBqqpMHcnw&sig2=u29A32xeMmrpJpMo2hwuxA.

Thanks for the suggestions
Thanks for the suggestions, but my phone is somewhat "challenged." I got it for free (that's the good news). The previous owner gave it to me after the power port/usb connector got damaged (that's the bad news). As I understand it, all the suggestions require a usb connection ... something I've been able to live without for the last year. Maybe I should give it a shot and get the usb port repaired, or maybe it would be cheaper/smarter to go shopping. I'm going to need time to think about that.
Thanks again to both of you.

If there's any way you can get into cwm mode then you can first add the zip file of the custom rom from your pc to your sd card via a card reader and then try to flash a new rom. I think the problem you are getting at the moment is because you did not format dalvik cache and some other things before flashing

I keep trying to launch CWM Recovery, but no such luck. The initial screen with Samsung and Vibrant appears, then nothing. I have to pull the battery to turn the phone off. I did wipe the dalvik cache before installing Slim Bean, but not before the reboot. Thanks for following up, but I've got a bad feeling about this.

The last resort is probably the samsung service center. They'll repair it for a hefty price but that'll be less than the price of a whole new phone..... sorry about your loss
