Root your phone on your phone? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Don't know if it's a dumb question of not. I don't have a computer to root my phone. I remember on the OG EVO you could run Unrevoked on your phone and it would work i believe. Truthfully the only reason I want root access right now is for tethering purposes when lte becomes available. Thanks.

+1 on this. I've always been wanting same thing. Android ftw

Me too! Count me in

I'm glad to see others are interested in this also. And I take that back I'd also like a simple Rom with quick settings also.

As far as I'm aware, the utilities that are available right now will only run on Windows or Linux. I don't think you're able to manually HTC dev unlock from your phone either since I believe some of it has to be done outside of the os where you wouldn't have access to your browser. Even if you can dev unlock from the phone, I'm not sure how you would flash a recovery without a pc...

You cant do it from your phone at this time.
You need access to a computer
Being able to get root access on the device would be a large security hole and would be patched as soon as it was found (Hence why the old methods on the OG EVO dont work anymore)

[Q] Evo 3D on Verizon?

Since Verizon and Sprint are both CDMA is it possible to get the Evo 3D on Verizon?
If so how would I go about doing this?

Well the obvious answer is no But you can hop on the verizon network momentarily if needed although that takes a little bit of tweaking which needs S-off

You can and you can't. It's kind of illegal. Some people would flash certain PRLs, but on their rooted Evo 4G, to get better signal and basically use Verizon coverage, therefor their contract and account terminated. Some people have switched ESN's and MEID numbers on the Evo to work on the verizon, so most likley the evo 3d can do the same as well. Just gotta keep searching.......and good luck.
Or wait till 2012 and thunderbolt 3d comes out lol jk
But yeah you can't have it legally right now
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
I think he is talking about permanently with a Verizon contact. But you can force it to roam with the roam control app in the market. It doesn't require root for HTC devices anymore.

I read somewhere on here that Verizon won't activate a device with an ESN/MEID that didn't originate in their system anymore. If the Evo 3D somehow ended up with an ESN/MEID that came from a Verizon phone I guess they wouldn't know the difference, they'd think that the Evo 3D was that Verizon phone.

[Q] Lost wimax keys

Does anyone know how to check for the Wimax RSA keys on the EVO 3D? The command grep RSA /dev/mtd/mtd0 doesn't work, nor does the wimax key checker app by joeykrim.
I can connect but I can't seem to get any data at all.
Are you in the boston area by chance? There is a 4g outage in the area and it will do exactly that. Connect to 4g but never pull any data down. There is thread in the general section regarding this issue. Best place to go to see the most up to date excuses given by sprint. Lol
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I'm in North Providence so I guess it could be all a part of the same issue. Sucks too cause this is driving me more and more towards Verizon.
To check if your keys are fine, use jieykrims Wimax key checker app.

It doesn't seem to work on the 3D and the market won't show it.

Yea, I tested it out on the EVO 3D ..think the app is still sitting on my phone from testing, but never saw anybody lose their keys on the EVO 3D yet.
Also, seems the keys are not easily accessible, as they were on the EVO. I don't think we'll have any problems on the EVO 3D with WiMAX keys.
I usually am on the front lines for issues so I'll keep watching but 7 months so far and no wimax key issues is a good sign I figure!
Thanks for the support!
4g is back up in my area so it was Sprint and not my phone. Please close this thread.

WiMax Keys

The eLTEvo does not use WiMax, so it's not a concern. Not sure if/how LTE works with any similarity, but LTE isn't in NYC yet, so I can't check ('cause I rooted yesterday ).
HTH,
-Jerry
I'd like to know too
I'd also like to know if this is a potential issue ... but I suspect that it isn't since LTE would be a different technology. I would hope it would function the same as, say, 3G vs. EDGE or something like that, where it's just a difference in radio.
AFAIK: For anyone that doesn't know, the original EVO required encrypted keys to join the WiMax network, and some methods of rooting/flashing the EVO didn't preserve these keys early on.
This probably will not be an issue as lte is using a sim card that is embedded in the phone. You also might want to pm a modern and ask them to move this to q&a.

thanks, wasnt sure were to put this. lol...thought rooting would be the best place.
anywho, thanks all. not that i used 4g all that much after rooting. i sure missed the wow factor when i was not in a wifi area.
just wanted to put the topic out there for devs to check into.
Edit: Misread the OP.
No it you don't loose the keys from personal experience from my og evo and the thi thunderbolt, Lte works in a different way kind of like cdma, they will be radios to flash like the OG evo tho
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I don't believe that there would be potential issues. If you notice the LTE / EVDO radios coexist seamlessly and I don't believe that it requires a second level of authentication as WiMax did. I have no way of testing and I could be wrong but unless you do something drastic that may affect the radio portion, then I believe that rooting alone should be OK.
I've had this same concern, as I remember all the people who forever bricked their wimax keys on Evo 4g using one if the root methods, and there was no way to know initially because wimax wasn't up and running yet. Just like now.
But, as stated, the LTE radio resides in the SoC, and shouldn't be subject to compromise. From what I understand.

I'm rooted, dev unlocked and I flashed another rom while wiping every partition on the phone and can still connect to lte
Doesn't the Evo LTE have a non removable sim that handles LTE registration?

Annoying on screen menu button.

Is there a way to disable this from apps and whatnot? (I dont know if this has been covered). I don't like it because it covers up the arrow keys.

Specifically I did the following and am happy:
1. rooted with RegawMOD EVO 4G LTE Rooter x64 Note: use x86 if it applies to your PC.
2. flashed STOCK WITH GOODIES 1.44
3. flashed Menu Remapping For Stock with Goodies Working.zip
for extra fun I threw in
4. Dual Core Mod
5. HotSpot Mod
Very Happy with this setup.

When I first had this phone I absolutely hated the menu button. I've since then rooted and unlocked.

Of course, I myself am currently flashed to Boost with the device. They flash easily to other carriers the same as previous htc phones. Yes the LTE won't work. Metropcs has LTE and although they are both cdma they use different frequencies and airwaves for LTE so you'd have to settle for 3G at least for the time being.
does it flash easily or do you have to do bad juju with the numbers?
It's pretty easy just search for EVO 4g LTE boostmobile. I recommend to flash to Verizon prepaid
