Custom rom?? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey recently got my s3 international version rooted. Was wondering if I cud get a few suggestions for stable working roms. I am thinking bout putting 1on

Best bet is too read through the roms in dev section. The ICS roms are all pretty stable now but the JB roms are pretty good too though they are still mostly beta tests... Lets put it this way, JB hasn't been released for the sgs3 yet, there's gonna be bugs. There are workarounds though to most things if you read.
I tend to be using Omega rom at present. Does everything I need and works well. I use RGUI on my 2nd sgs3, though I tend to also put others on there to test...

For future reference, best ROM/recommend a ROM threads are not allowed here.
Like the guy above said, read through ROM threads and see what you like.

Best MiUI Rom

I'm not a fan of these forums and I have tried many MiUI roms but have been hit and miss. I mean tried WIUI and had great results... Flashed another MiUI rom.. Wasn't happy but when I flashed back to WIUI I had a bunch of lag. Both with siyhia kernel. So... What's your opinion? Thanks for the references.
Looking for speed and stability. Doesn't have to be latest release just stable and least amount of bugs. Thanks again.

Try sheps in the dev section
Its not a hell raised from so I would think it would be more stable..

Will do. And I meant "not a fan of these THREADs".... The what rom is best threads.. Just had mixed results. Thanks again for the advice

I've not had the greatest luck with hellraised MIUI ROMS. That said, shep does good work and I've had a good experience with his version. I'm an addict, though, so I can't stay on one ROM for more than a few days.
Good luck.

I've been using the version from Shep's threads for months now, very very stable and with Siyah it's even better. I get great battery life and really can't complain.
I've tried a few other roms, I remember when the I777 came out, there were about 5 roms everyone was using. I tried all of them and always came back to MIUI.
Well, I donĀ“t like best rom threads since they are redundant. What is best for you cannot be best for me . Try them.
On that note, thread closed.

Thinking about ics

Its been awhile since I have browsed the sgs2 forums and I stop in and notice ics is all over here. So I'm thinking of upgrading my girls s2 to 4.0 and I want opinions and stability and function of the current roms.
I'm leaning towards aokp or cm9. I have cm9 on my note and a500 so I'm fond of it obviously.
Coming from gb rooted w/ cwm full wipe and good to go I assume? I ask because in the n7k forum the leaked kernals suck and there were all these stupid methods for going from gb to ics...
Anyway thanks.

Yup full wipe. I am not running either of those ROM's so cant comment on them. I have been following Task's AOKP thread. That may be the next one I try.
If you'd like to try a Samsung based rom, give ShoStock2 a try. It's the best I've ever tried.

Ultimatum and SHOstock are excellent. AOKP is pretty sweet too.

ICS is well worth the upgrade
I've been running CM9 since the first nightly. I love it. Haven't had any issues.

I've been running aokp for a few weeks and love it so far. It has been pretty stable and fast as hell. I'm sure things are even better in the latest build, but I haven't flashed yet.
Its like when GB became available and everyone was still on Froyo- once you open the desert and have a taste, your likely not gonna go back. And now that video recording is fixed- its all gravy baby

Definitely go with AOKP, it's stable, fast, full of features, and rocks great battery life.
The only benefit of the Samsung ICS is MHL.

If MHL is a must, i think you're stuck with TW for now. My final choice was between aokp and cm9. Check the support/discussion threads, big difference...
No need for MHL I just want a stable ics rom for her because her miui rom is buggy as heck.
Thanks guys ill keep watching the dev section. For me aokp and cm9 are really similar so it just comes down to battery life and stability which is different for each person.

Aokp all the way baby, super stable and awesome battery. Way better than gb

I've been using shoshock lastest gingerbread build. it's great. I'm waiting for a while.
Running AOKP and it's running great.
Just flash Siyah's kernel and go for dual boot to check both Samsung and AOKP/CM9 roms together.
I've been running CM9 since the first nightly. I love it. My phone feels brand new and I don't feel like upgrade it, except I want LTE.
Thanks everyone. I flashed aokp for the extra settings and customization. Its been super stable so far and battery is good but will be better once it settles. Might try siyah might not???
Anyone recommend a Better modem? Have you been getting batter with gb ones or ics ones.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
I'd go with CM9 nightlies simply because it's supported by ROM Manager which makes it ridiculously easy to flash new updates, which come very fast by the way...plus it's CM9. Good luck.
Cm9 is nice I use it on my tablet and note but lacks some features I know my girl requires.

I tested the latest LD3 but decided to change back to LC5, it is faster than the old modems and seems more stable in my area. I have been running AOKP for a while and love it.
I am enjoying CM9. Lots of Entropy involvement. Good team working on it.

Best AOSP/AOKP Based Rom ?

hi guys, which AOKP/AOSP based builds best for Our S3 ? (I mean Stable and good battery life ? )
Cm9 is stable now, but jelly bean roms are pretty good too, cm10, supernexus...etc.
Well, why not you try all of them and lets us know
No rom is the best. Just keep flashing until you found your best rom.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
The Jellybean roms aren't 100% stable yet. They are good enough for daily use but expect the of bug. Both cm9 and aokp are very reliable though, and battery life is very good although battery life is also very good on the stock Samsung Rom so don't expect any big improvement.
I've tried them all and am sticking with cm9 until cm10 gets the last few bugs resolved but you really should try some different flavors yourself and see what you like.

[Q] Which rom for best battery life and stability?

Hey guys I just purchased this one for my mother who is new to smart phones. I want to ask which rom is best for battery life and is stable? I searched on this forum and people were saying ICS Passion but that was a year or two ago and I saw that it is no longer supported. It was be awesome if you guys could recommend me a rom since my mom isn't much of a flash-a-holic so I don't want to flash each and every rom to test it for a day or two.
Thanks for the help.
*As compared to stock.
Since she's new to smartphones, I'd suggest a Froyo ROM. They have great battery life and simple to use interface. I can't say specifically which Froyo is better because I have JB. (Which I don't recommend for newbies.)
Well unfortunately the problem is almost every ROM is no longer coming out with new builds because they have moved on to new things. This means that they are all working on 4.2.1. Yet cm10 and hellybean are both very stable 4.1 ROMs. This is what I am running at the moment

I have a hard time believing someone actually recommended Passion.
I would go with either bionix (froyo) cm7 stable build or cm10. Don't flash a ICS ROM, you run the risk of EU bug.

Which is kind of a shame because ICS zen was of the best ROMs I've ever used... Agreed to the rest
Amen, ICZen is/was the bah-bah-zee!

You've been around long enough to know comparing the efforts of developers isn't good form on these boards. We're lucky that we have several devs working on projects that have come a long way. Unfortunately, all of the current JB and KK ROMs have some type of issue, mostly involving Bluetooth and portable hotspot tethering. At the moment I'd say the PACman ROM is closest to being ready. Followed closely by evervolv. I haven't tried MIUI yet, but the reactions in that thread have been very positive. Of course you could also try one of the CM ROMs which many have been using as daily drivers for awhile. Read the threads, see which ones have issues that would negatively affect you the most, then try the one that suits your needs the best.
Well yes I know what you're on about, I know about the developers putting in enormous amounts of efforts in the roms but the point was to highlight ics roms or those based on it seem to be bug free, I could use something like that myself to come up with a rom myself

Your first post asked about JB, this one about ICS. Two different animals. On ICS we have many great fully functioning stable ROMs it boils down to the level of bloat you want removed for you, the theming, and the amount of tweaking and optimization. The leanest one that still maintains a fully functional sense is the one I'm using the Energy ROM, however, it's dated and the dev indicated last week that he'd be updating soon. SuperAfnan has a couple of outstanding ROMs both themed and stock. The ARHD ROM was updated yesterday and is totally stock with tweaks, it's probably the closest to the stock factory ROM. Then if you can live with a few minor bugs involving Bluetooth and tethering, the Viper Amaze is one of the most heavily tweaked, optimized, and full featured ROMs for our device, and it's sense 4 not 3.6 like the rest. I hope this helps.
Yes I'm on the energy one too tried nearly all of them but came back to this one. Somehow the amaze doesn't feel that smooth with either of the jellybean roms, which would you suggest for 4.1.2?

ROM comparison threads are not allowed. You need to test them out and find one that works for you by yourself. Please read the threads instead of asking because ROMS are subjective.
Please do not take developer work for granted.
As @Odysseus1962 stated there's so l many to choose from and he has already provided you with information so please just read the ROM threads. I'll give you a hint, there's a "broken" / "not working" section on the ROM threads so you can find bugs accordingly. Ones without it are usually more-or-less problem free.

Why does it always take until the 2nd or 3rd response before they finally understand this?
Thread closed. The points given above are rather self explanatory reason.
Thank you
