Not sure if I'm posting this in the right forum as it could be either a problem with the phone itself or with the SD card.
Sometimes when I reboot my phone about 50mb-2gb of music disappears from my external MicroSD card (class 10 SanDisk). As far as I can tell its always entire folders that disappear, never individual files. It happens quite frequently (probably 1 in 3 reboots) and its extremely frustrating.
I removed the card from my phone and put it in my PC to perform a disk check (no errors found) and format it but the problem persisted.
Can anyone tell me what's causing this and how to fix it?
You mean the files really gone, not even visible with PC?

Yep, the files get completely deleted, I can't even see them when viewing the contents of the card on my PC.
Suggestion: If you have another sd card, try testing it. Then you will know whether is the card problem or the phone problem.

Okay so I tried testing the issue with an old 16gb class 2 Sandisk I had laying around (the one I'm currently having the issue with is 64gb). I rebooted the phone about six or seven times but I wasn't able to replcate the problem. The thing is I can't seem to trigger the problem again on my 64gb card even after rebooting about 10 times. So I'm geussing there's somrthing elese I've be doing in addition to rebooting the phone that has been causing the files to delete themselves. Any idea what that might be?
I guess all I can do now is just continue to use the phone normally, keep a close eye on what I'm doing and wait for the problem to arise again.
In the meantime here are few additional details:
The card is about 30gb full but its only ever about 2gb or less that go missing.
I was wrong about individual files being immune from deletion. about 90% of the songs in my GTA Vice City soundtrack disappeared (among other things). The weird thing is, is that when individual files are effected, they don't outright disappear from the card like folders do. The files are there but they're like ghost files or something, they just sort of get reduced dramatically in size and refuse to work. Its like what you'd have if you downloaded an album through a torrent but stopped the download around 10%, the files are visible, just incomplete.
While many things seem to disappear randomly, there also a bit a pattern. For example, my Elvis Costello, Elvis Presley and Rolling Stones folders all disappeared at once like three times in a row(maybe every time, I'm not quite sure). Not sure what's going on with that.
Don't know what is going on with your sd card. Anyway, glad that the problem somehow gone. Enjoy your phone and keep monitoring the sd card.

ARGHHH! It just happened again, all but one of the files in a folder somehow to reduced to 0.00kb. I'm just taking a wild guess here, could this have something to do with editing id3 tags in n7player? I think that's something most of the files have in common...
Could be. Try uninstall it or any apps you think may be related.

I tested this theory by editing various tags in n7player, rebooting, checking the available space on the SD card and repeating the process several times. Files disappeared about 3 in every 5 reboots so I think its safe to conclude that n7player was causing the problem. I didn't want to stop using n7player completely as it is by far my favorite music app, so now when I need to edit tags directly from phone I use ID3Fixer (but I mainly stick to editing files on my PC prior to transferring them just to be on the safe side). After a few days of normal usage, no files have disappeared.

Just noticed my available space on my internal sdcard is sitting at around 2 gigs. This makes no sense. I dont have any music on it and I have gone through and deleted old pics and videos. I have also deleted old nandroid backups as well as files that i used to flash like roms and fixes.
Any ideas on whats causing this. I am running Kirf custom with voodoo enabled.
Are you sure that, that's your internal sd card and not the external sd card that you are reading off of? If you do have an external sd card please remove it, then reboot your phone, then check your memory once again without the external sd card inserted. Doing so should eliminate any confusion/confusions of you reading the wrong information.

Do you have a lot of ROMs stored on it?? a lot of game data?
these two things tend to chew up a looot of memory
I did delete all my stored roms. I do have need for speed shift installed I know it installed 150mbs when it first started up but maybe its the game save data then. I just would have thought the videos I was recording would have taken up alot more space than they did.

Just mount your sd to your PC and arrange all files/folders according to size, then browse around and you should find out whats eating your space up
I had a similar problem earlier on, it turns out that one of my database files had some how gotten corrupted and bloated to taking up a lot more space than they should have. I would check the size of your database files to make sure this hasn't happened to you.
So I figured it out. Set file manager to show hidden files. There was a folder called. trashes. Went into the folder and there was everything I ever deleted. Hit select all and delete and I am now back at 12 gigs of space. That folder had 10 gigs of trash in it! I recommendations to every one look into doing this if you are low on space.

You must have a mac, adamboyd. Am I right?
This has to do with the way macs "send" files to the trash can, which is different than a PC's recycle bin. A mac does not move the file from where it was located when you send it to the trash can, it simply places it in a hidden "trashes" folder. This isn't an issue when the files are on your computer, but when you're using your mac to delete files on an external drive (flash drives, or your phone's sd), the file remains on the drive in the hidden folder your mac created and eventually you run into the problem you experienced.
Solution: Always empty the Trash Can before ejecting the drive from your mac. That action searches out and permanently deletes all files located in the hidden trashes folders. If you empty the trash can after you've ejected the phone's sd from the computer, then obviously it won't be able to locate and delete the files that you had "moved" to the trash.
Hope that helps!
Good to know. And yeah I have a mac. I never knew that but I do now.

Also, if you make ClockWorkMod nandroid backups, they can add up fast as well. If you're low on space then you might want to move the older ones elsewhere or delete them from the phone.

ah yes, i forgot about this..these can take up almost 1gb each
ok. I hope this isnt too much of a newb question...
I have looked all over to see if I could find any problems with people getting apps off of their SD card. I found a few topics and reviewed them, but I have had little luck. Most of those threads also involve root problems whereas my Evo 3d is still stock (updated to 2.3.4).
The main problem Im having (aside from linpak and various other benchmarks being dramatically reduced) is that I can not get the apps off of my SD card to show on the phone.
I performed a factory reset on the phone prior to the update as I've read several times that it is the preferred method of updating since it wipes the Dalvik (sp?) cache or whatever. I guess if you just update without wiping, it clogs up the cache or something to that effect.
Anyhow, I moved all the apps to SD. I did the wipe, then I did the OTA. Once the OTA was complete it would not recognize my apps at all. They DO NOT show up under app management as being on the SD. It is blank. It does however still show my music and pictures.
Since I swapped my 8 GeeBee card with a 16 I figured perhaps the card was corrupted somehow. So, I took my OEM Sandisk 8gb card and put that in and it wont transfer the apps that were on that either.
Ive tried to restart. Nothing. Ive unmounted the SD card, restarted without a card. Shut down. Put card back in, mounted. Still nothing .
Any help guys...and again, sorry if this is a newb question.
Use any third party apps? I believe the system installer doesn't check external storage. Try Astro free and you should be ok. Let me know what you run into

Ooh and most benchmarks for this phone are inaccurate due to its resolution. They may have updated to account for this but that's what I've heard as of late.
It's a 1.2 factory dual core so why of super Oct'd phones and tablets you should reign supreme.

I have a couple apps from Amazon but not many. so when I used astro I tried to find the apps and couldn't find any. Normally on my PC they are listed under Android secure...when I pull that up with astro it says directory empty..but they do show up when I have the card in my laptop...
Also, when I switched my sd out before all I had to do was copy the files and pop it in the phone. They showed up right away. Not sure why phone won't recognize them now.

Hi all,
I've been using my Galaxy S2 for a few weeks, and finally decided my 16gb SD card was not quite big enough. I bought a 32gb card and used my PC to transfer everything from the small card to the large one. Then, I placed the new card in my phone and booted up.
Everything seemed ok, but then I noticed that I now have two of every media folder in my gallery app.
My first thought was that the folders and pictures must have gotten deplicated in the transfer process, but I checked with root explorer, and there is only one of each folder on the card.
Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
Thanks,
-Matt

Hey Matt
I think the reason your seeing duplicates of everything is because with android they store everything on the pre-installed sd card you can try to delete the old ones but make sure you make a backup before you do anything.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
don't delete anything.
Go to the media storage application under manage applications (in settings) and clear the cache for that app. You may need to reboot. then check the gallery to see if the duplicates are still there.
This happened to me a while back.
That was one of the first things I tried, but the clear cache button is greyed out. Should I try clearing the data from that app?

- Sony ROMs have never had a "Close All" button, so that's not a bug.

Z2 and Z2 Tablet do, but seeing as though very few features where back ported to these phones, as you say, it's no bug
Games frequently crash when previously they never did.

I didn't get the previous update so I went from 4.3 to 4.4 straight to the 757 build.
A problem I have on 757 is that it when I use the wireless headset which is supplied and it's connected and press play it just plays in speakermode and have to enable disable bluetooth and/or throw to connect again but it's irritating.
Another problem I found is that the Google Speech (extra button on your keyboard) doesn't appear to be working anymore, it doesn't pick up anything at all.
After the update my 32gb Micro-SD seems to be read-only, I can't copy/paste anything there while in Windows I can (so it's not the micro-sd card), I did a format of the whole SD card anyway, tried it with fat32, ntfs, exfat but all the same, anyone else got issue's with that?
I do like that you can enable 16 toggles and they have extra functionality like on Samsung, when you keep pressing WIFI you can enter the wifi settings from there. And swiping 2 fingers down from the top menu bar makes you go straight to the quicksettings.
I wish the keyboard had this option to separate words though, the spacebar is too small, so you just keep putting ... between the words instead of zero's, Samsung's keyboard is a bit smarter to identify the right words (even glued together) and spaces.
Overall it's faster then 4.2 and 4.3 and a big improvement over the battery (but it needs like 1 or 2 complete battery cycles to fully use that.

My best guess was that your sd card is corrupt. Try to format it with your PC and start clean. That should fix it.
Some battery drain occured with me yesterday (about a day after updating to 757). It was draining like hell, like 20% after only 9 hours since unplugged and about 3 hour of screen time. but nothing crazy on the battery usage graph. So i was suspicious about hidden wakelock somewhere inside. So like a dumb boy, i just opened up one by one of the installed apps. So it was found that somehow Waze and Line app will FC on open. I decided to erase data on Waze and uninstall Line and voila no more battery drain after the next charge! Turns out that i have restored both with Helium and never tested them after restoration.
Moral of the story is, don't do a sloppy restore and backup after clean install. Better for you to find app with cloud save or at least local backup support and clean install the app and then restore the data by per app.

No the SD card isn't corrupt. Google did this in the Kit Kat update. SD cards cannot be written into by third party apps. Only sony apps can write into it like "File Commander". This is to improve security as they said, but it's proving to be more of a problem than a security enhancement -_-

That's not a bug. It's a "feature" in KitKat, and it's entirely Google's idea. You can no longer move, copy or delete your own files on SD cards. A new SD card permission is in place, so apps (Facebook, Spotify, games etc.) can save files to it, but you can't manually do it unless you root and run SDFix (you can uninstall it after you're done), or you'll have to use the File Commander app, or whatever it's called, which came with the update.

I guess you'll have to manually check every file on there. It could be as simple as a corrupt photo, so move everything from your SD to your computer and move one and one file (or folder if you're certain that it doesn't contain a corrupt file) at a time.
You have any idea why mine isn't fixed? I'm on 757 too.
FYI: my update crashed with a "software failed to update" and I had to perform wipes using the SUS.

Go to Settings -> Wifi -> Advanced -> Uncheck "Scanning always Available"
Plus, if you rely on High Accuracy mode and using it for Waze/Maps/Any other Geotag enabled apps, don't you ever turn off Location after exiting the app. Just leave the Location on. It won't wakelock your device for GPS signal. Otherwise the app will show you that it eats battery in battery usage because it awaits for the GPS to be turned on and the only Solution is to restart the phone.

Use XNotifications on Xposed to create a rule that automatically dismisses the notification. Worked for me perfectly. I bought the premium app to support the dev since i found it so useful.
i have the same problem, and it seems that due to this notification/ bug all my music downloaded for offline use via spotify gets deleted. The bigger part is that I receive this notification every so often, notjust after reboot, so basically spotify is nonstop downloading all the songs, cause i guess that once you take the card out, spotifiy does not register or acknowledge its old files anymore.
ill try the formating to see if that helps, but does anyone have a different approach?
