Dear XDA'ers,
My Samsung Galaxy S II thinks it's charging when it's not. Most of the time it does this for 2 seconds and then it repeats. But sometimes it thinks it's always charging.
How can I solve this problem?
Thanks people!

Something is wrong with the charging port. It's a known issue after a while. How long have you had had the phone for?

Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Mine did the same recently. I think its because of moisture/damage to the USB socket. Took it apart and left to dry in a rice jar, which made it do it less often, and stop when I put in and then pulled out the charger. Next I used a clean, dry toothbrush to clean out the socket. This was 3 days ago, hasn't happened since. (Touch wood).
also heard it can happen when the flat connector inside gets bent slightly, from putting in charger upside down (easily done) or some other way. May be worth having a look and checking if that's an issue. Hope that's helpful, had me worried for an hour or two

Nothing you can do except insurance claim or warranty or buy a new one. Sorry mate. This issue is exactly why I bought an s3, because after a while it gets worse and worse and then it kills your battery life.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
It usually is one of the two things: either the USB port is dirty, and you just need to clean with, say, a toothbrush, OR a circuitry issue in which case you need to replace the circuit.

Same happened to me after a month of jb update what I found is the only thing that I'll bring back charging to normal is ics if the problem is really annoying then install ics Rom that I'll solve your problem

So you have change back to ics?

Try a different cable, same thing was happening to me a couple of months back. Turned out to be the cable.

Yea that's the only thing that solved my charging woes...before that I had tried all the tricks ie removing battery for 10 sec.., rebooting , changing Rom ,kernels after super wipe but nothing worked but for ics.

Even I changed the cable and chargers everything would solve the problem for couple of days then again back to square one...one peculiar thing was there was no knowing when it used to charge and when it used to stop there was no pattern to it...

Dude, i have the same problem as you. When my phone is plugged in, it takes forever to charge it and if i am using it when charging it will quickly discharge. Really annoying.
Slow charging
I think i have the same problem.
when i charge my phone over night, the battery is in the morning only 40-50%
I tried my old htc desire charger and the normal s3 charger, but it does not make any difference.
What can be the problem? my charger, battery or my phone itself?
FYI, I did a Kies update and that fixed my battery problem. Try it. It may work for you to.
it happened to me too
what I did was u changed my USB cable
it solved my problem
try this
Sent from my GT-I9300
a different good quality cable will solve the problem. I had a slow charging issue .changed to a Nokia sync cable .nd voila charges in the required speed
Sent from my GT-I9300
yes.. i guess whoever is encountering problem should try using the original cable and see if solve the problem.. mine does.. no choice..

Use Original Samsung cable or Nokia cable - that fixes most charging problems.
3rd party cables give a lot of problems...

I tried twisting the cable....first i tought some problem in the connection point of cable to my phone....i changed cable nothing.....
is it hardware issue of my phone where it connects to charging cable or is it Jelly bean????
im really disappointed that how come a new phone (only 1.5 months old) can have this problem.....
PLEASE HELP ME.....I CANNOT CHARGE MY MOBILE.......from wall or USB....im starting to hate samsung ...although i used Galaxy S Plus...and loved it.....
Also my screen is less bright and yellowish than my wifes S3. i mean the white is not white is yellowish white (off white color)

Most likely the Samsung charger, many faults reported.
S1/S2/ BlackBerry and many others work on the S3
I've got a Galaxy S2 that I dropped and now it won't turn on. I can't figured out why. No response from charger, USB, anything. What's the deal?
Sent from my HTC Acquire using xda app-developers app
maybe loose hardware and/or battery. Take it to a service center or else check out a couple of guides of how to dissembling an s2.
I have already disassembled it and none of the hardware connections were loose, the battery sits in fine and has full contact, and the logic board seems to be fine.

Warranty voided? Is there any damage on the device?
That could be THE drop of death.

May have port damage ...
Did it get wet ?
Or get the charger cable pulled out of the port quickly or on an off angle ??
Just throwing a few ideas out there.
The charging flex cable being weak is a known issue for us...
Are you under warranty ??
Being stock, they should fix that...g
not under warranty .so u think i should get the whole charging port replaced

In a nut shell ...yes
Charging issues are difficult to diagnose, as you are working with multiple components to begin with.
But if different cables and chargers are tested, and fail to improve the conditions, then you are left with the device as the cause.
Additionally, if the device is unmodified, either by software or hardware that generally affects it's function, then hardware is the remainder.
Charging port is the probable cause ...IMHO ....g

Its not to difficult to change it out I bought mine from cellphonerepairshop.com got the OEM flex cable took about 20 minutes to open it up and change it theres tutorial videos on youtube if you are off contract I would suggest that.
Before you switch out any hardware, get a can of air, alcohol, and cotton swab.
Give the port a good cleaning.

Great tip here ^^^^^^^^.....
Thanks ranger ....g
If you dont want to replace the port you can get another battery and a wall charger, works like a charm
I agree. I like my 2700ma batteries and charger. For long days I bring the extra battery. The rig was super cheap too, but good quality.
I've had charging troubles as well
About a month after I first received my note I went to charge it (wall outlet, original adapter/cable, as well as stock ROM no root) and it refused
to charge. Restarting twice solved the problem, but still, every so often, my note will refuse to charge and I am unsure why. When it refuses to charge, it wont accept any charging cable (I check to make sure each is clean) although the phone works normally. Is this a known issue on some devices?
Sounds like a battery problem.
after some more searching around, it seems it was the battery causing my troubles, thanks for the tip! ordered a new one, it'll be good to have a backup battery

I hope you're playing around.
You were given several suggestions ranging from cleaning the port to replacing the port - did any of them work?
I'm glad one person got his solution with battery replacement. But thats not stealing. Stealing would be several members turning the thread into a discussion about multiwindows or bricking by flashing an N7000 kernel.
We're on task and waiting for your update. . .
Still not fixed got my usb port changed and still nothing won't charge unless u turn iy off

Hello people, I have a rooted s3 running super nexus ROM. I decided to charge my phone last night at 83%. This morning when I check, I still had 83%. I have changed all my chargers and cables(charger and cables are original) before this happened but unfortunately I still can't charge. I don't know if its my Hardware or software problem. Anyone else have the same problem as me?
I have uploaded my phone info as well.

that might be some software bug rather than a hardware problem. did you try removing the battery and re-inserting it?

then this might be a problem with the charging port i guess! better return to stock warranty and give it in the service center.
Hey
I have aproblem that is so strange!
For example when I turn off my mobile it restarts!
Even if I pull out the battery and put it in it just power on automatically! !
Sometimes if the phone successfully was turent off, when I press any button it indicates that it is charging!
And now the battery is full even though am using it for around 2hrs
So my question is: is it a phone hardware or battery issue?

as i said it just went away after a while i think the problem is being caused by overcharge, so when u keep charging it to 95% the voltages come back to normal.
In other words charge it till 95% for like 10 charges and it will be fixed.
Well gonna try and reply back thanks
