Playing games.that require multitouch or fast '1 to 2' interaction I seem to get a few times where the screen response just shuts down.
Perfect example, play MiniSquadron. You can fire, but if you change direction,.you stop firing.
Known issue. Photon only has 2 touch points by default. Gaming IMO needs at least 4 points to be played flawlessly man. To help understand 2 touch points means the screen can only register 2 fingers on the screen so when moving fingers really fast on games the touch points sometimes aren't registered.
Solution: Try flashing a custom rom like cm7 etc there's a zip floating around that enables 8 point multitouch. If you want to test this theory out go to market and search "multitouch" and you'll see a handful of apps that let you test the touch points.
Thanks Mr. Powers!
I'd be all about a custom rom, but 4g is a benefit for me living in the Philadelphia area. Heh, believe it or not there is a place I go frequently where wimax is the only service that works.
I guess this is just another blemish on this really inconsistent stock rom. =/

Yeah the phone's hardware definitely supports more than 2 touch points why its only 2 I have no idea. Maybe ice cream sandwich could change that.
CM7 has 8 point multi-touch enabled by default right?
There is a flashable zip that enables 8-point multitouch, which is basically all you need. For some reason, that thread is missing from the dev section.
Anyway here is a link:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/enable-8-point-multi-touch-on-motorola-photon-4g/
You don't need CWM BTW. I don't have an unlocked Photon, so I can just manually moved the files inside the zip with root explorer while preserving the file structure and made sure to preserve the permissions of the files and folders (this is important) I was replacing.
I currently have this on my Photon running the latest OTA and it works wonderfully.
so where did you move the file to in root explorer?

Can you explain how you did this? Not flashing anything for me is important since I'm on a different provider
1-Extract 'touchpad' folder from zip (located in /system/etc/).
2-Put the extracted touchpad folder into the /system/etc/ folder overwriting the original. You may wish to backup the original though. Simplely rename the folder 'touchpad' to 'touchpad.backup'.
3-Set correct file and folder permissions. the 'touchpad' folder should be 'rwxrwxrwx'. The folders 20 21, and 22 folders inside should be 'rwxrwxr-x'. All the 'touchpad.cfg' inside each of the numbered folders should be 'rw-r--r--'.
4-Reboot

Anybody know if there is a mod for less than 8 finger multitouch? Like maybe 5?

No. What's wrong with 8. It will only register what you put on the screen. More=better not like Wed ever need 8 fingers on the screen but just in case lol
hey , i tried to install, but i keep getting the error folder is read only, tried to back it up first.. couldnt even rename it, any idea how to go bout doing this, i am new .my phone is rooted btw
sorry figured it out *edit
Gotta mount the system write, if u still have problems then u have to change permissions, chmod 777 is the command

This disables the 'waterdrop' protection, the function that disables the screen after touching it for more then 10 secs. It also brings the screen touch points down to 5. Sooo.. to whomever is interest.
Hi to everyone, Yesterday i tried to install touchwiz 4.0 following these instructions
http://www.tutebox.com/3776/mobile/install-touchwiz-4-0-on-any-samsung-phone/
As soon as i put the .apk file in system/app (via adb shell), the GUI become black. I rebooted with no results, so i deleted the file and rebooted again.
Nothing... Bricked.
I did a factory reset & wipe cache partition.
Now the device boot exactly one time after a factory reset but with no graphical interface, if i turn it off and on again it doesn't boot.
Do you have any suggestion about how to solve?I think this isn't a total brick but a problem with graphical interface files.
Info about the device:
Galaxy wifi 4.0 YP-G1CW/XEF
Android 2.3.5 (Official update with kies)
rooted with super one click
Was this your only launcher?
It makes sense that if you delete the only launcher you would loose your GUI. I was using ADW EX as my main one so I had no ill effects.
I suppose you will need to somehow get the twlauncher30.apk put back into system/app folder. And since you lost your GUI, you might have to flash back the stock rom.
I am not sure but maybe others can help you with more tricks.
Sorry to hear about your troubles though.
Thank you cvcduty, yes, I have probably overwritten the original touchwiz.apk file. To be sure, could you or someone with the same device post here the content of his system/app folder?
I cannot even replace the file because the device does not respond to adv. Is there any other way to access the memory ? Damn!

pm me. I can email you the stock touchwiz apk file. But your main problem is getting the file into the system/app folder.
Maybe someone with more knowledge can assist you with accessing the player via ADB or something. You should still be able to get the player into Download mode so maybe there is a way to access the player's folder structures from your PC... Good luck.
You can access the file on your player by connecting to a windows computer. Just open the player in computer and drag the file. I think this might work.
Thank you cvcduty and heat361. Through a normal usb connection you can only access to the "sdcard" folder and not the root folder.
I solved the problem in the simplest way: flashed with odin.
Thank you again
I was going to suggest ODIN gonna give tw a shot in ICS on my vibrant thanks for the link.

I think TW4 is for GB based roms...
I have successfully installed touchwiz 4 and made a copy of the original launcher to my sd card . My only complaint is some stock apps are missing but i rarely use them and i can re-install them in Root explorer and it sometimes get auto close window. When installing my screen went black too were you patient or you missed some steps?

That's what I figured
Hi all,
This morning I tried to update my Camera firmware using the *#34971539# (Camera Firmware Update) code. During this upgrade I got the message 'FactoryTest stopped'. After that message my camera app stopped working, it starts, shows the buttons, but the image is black. Also I am unable to access the camera firmware update screen... I get the same message as before (FactoryTest stopped).
I tried a few custom roms, but this didn't solve the issue. I also restored a backup I created with CMW, but no luck.
Does any of you have an idea how to get my camera to start working again ????
Thanks.
Best regards,
Vinzie
Try to flash a 3-part firmware with PIT and repartition checked!
Remove the camera update and go back to your previous camera

Can you tell me which firmware is 3part ??? Up until now I only used/found single file firmwares...
I red an old galaxy S thread on XDA, apparently you can copy the correct file onto the device (you need root access though) and then you should be able to run *#34971539# again, without it crashing. At least that is how it worked on the galaxy S. I've look on the filesystem of the galaxy S3 and I don't have a 'firmware' folder in the /system/ folder, so I guess the camera files are located elsewhere on the galaxy S3/ICS... does anyone have an idea where these files are located ? And is anyone willing on posting their camera firmware files here....?

Apparently people using CM9 also had camera issues and where able to fix them by putting the following files back onto their phone:
/data/cfw/SlimISP_GD.bin
/data/cfw/SLIMISP_ZD.bin
Would someone please send me those 2 files, so I can try if this will fix the camera issues ?
Also also saw that there are firmware files in the folder '/system/cameradata/', I would also love to have those...

The camera firmware is in two locations. The camera itself contains one (the one you can "flash") and one in the kernel. When the camera loads up (first time after a clean boot) it does a comparison of the two firmwares, decides which one is the latest and loads that one into memory. Hence, there's no need to flash the camera FW itself. It will load the latest of the two.
There is a option in kernel somewhere to store the camera firmware externally. I'm fairly sure this is how CM9 does it, hence the firmware in /data/cfw.
It could also be that CM9 dumps the camera firmware to that folder, for whatever reason I do not know.
You can download the latest firmware CM9 uses directly from their source. I can't make heads or tails when browsing their github, it's a horrible mess, but it's there somewhere. Files are called SlimISP_GD.bin.ihex and SlimISP_ZD.bin.ihex.

OK I found the 2 files, they were present in a dump posted on the XDA forum. I put both files in the /data/cfw/ folder, restarted the phone and tried the camera, but no luck. I tried it once with and once without the .ihex extention. I also tried the same by putting the files into the /system/vendor/firmware/ folder.... but no luck there either...
Any thoughs on what location I can try ? Or is restarting the phone not enough...? Should I do a hard reset ?
Hello, everyone. Recently, I installed the Legend port of CM9, but I really dislike the bootscreen, I prefer lighter, simpler images. Some days ago, the designer of the past CM bootscreens revealed the bootscreen for CM10 and provided download links on the video.
First, I'm kinda noobish to the Android scene and such, so I tried flashing the entire zip provided, but then noticed the zip had more zips, named "bootanimation.zip" and realized that was the thing I was supposed to flash. So, I went ahead and tried flashing the 480 vertical zip, but CMR kept throwing me errors, without even pointing what was wrong, it just didn't install it.
I've been looking for a bit about some issues, and then found that the desc.txt file includes the info needed, like height and width. So, I change width to 320 and keep height to 480, leaving the rest untouched. Didn't work either, so I'm asking you guys if I'm doing anything wrong.
Tech data:
- Running Cyanogenmod 9 b4 for HTC Legend.
- Opened zip files with 7zip and edited text files with notepad.exe
- Trying to flash through Clockwork Recovery.

First of all that zip file is not a zip to flash, it is a animation package that android reads on boot you need to simply copy it into the /system/media folder, its also best not to mess with the stuff inside the zip if you haven't done any learning about what the stuff inside does.

You can also put it in data/local if you're doing nightlies it something that doesn't require a full wipe.

I know about the contents of the folder plus how the text file interacts with the system. (frames per second, location of each "part" of the entire animation.., to loop or not to loop) but seeing that, based on info found across the web, I could flash it, I tried becasue I think it's a cleaner way, rather than going into a file manager and placing the zip somewhere.
It just said 'hosts' a few times, the file name of a ringtone I transfered to the root of storage a while back, and some other files I'd transfered there. I deleted it's content thinking it wouldn't do anything and that I was cleaning up because it was a short file that didn't seem to be anything other than a list of files I'd transfered.
Oh, and in doing that I made it so my phone won't boot. Just recovery and fastboot and stuff.
Any ideas on what this is and what it contains so I can fix it?
Thanks!

OK, so for anyone who may need to know: I believe it is put there by SuperSU Pro when you enable Root Survival. That's just an educated guess, but don't modify it or delete it
