Rooting CM10 / Jelly Bean (4.1.1) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am interested in installing CM10 or Jelly Bean 4.1.1. These are my questions : I have 4.0.4 + Siyah Kernel. I understand that I should install 4.0.4 related ROMs. But, here I want to install Jelly Bean 4.1.1 on my S2 I9100. How do I it ? Do I need 4.1.1 installed before I install CM10 ?
I understand there is no official release of Jelly Bean. So, it would help if you could suggest me something on this.
Thanks,
Satish.

You don't need to be on a 4.1.1 ROM. Follow the instructions on the first post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29280423

I'm currently running a absolutely wonderful JB ROM with exactly that Kernel you're on. You simply must try this one. This ROM are built upon CM10. Take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846706
And no, you do not need JB running on your phone prior to install this ROM
/A

you can just flash it anytime to JB. no worries

[Q] samsung S3 GT-I9300 - jelly bean & ROM

Hello All,
this is my first thread in the forum and i also new with android
I've just got my new Samsung S3 device (GT-I9300) and i rooted it successfully using one of yours wonderful guides.
my current android OS is ICS 4.04 and i would like to update it to jelly bean.
I've heard that the most "clean" ROM belongs to Google and called "Vanilla" - is it right?
if so, where i can find jelly bean with that ROM? i've found jelly bean with "vanilla root box" ROM and i guess
that is not the same as Google.
Thank you so much for your help.

Try cyanogemmod ROM. its hands down the best. Most of the custom jelly bean ROMs are based on it.
I can suggest targeting your thread in the s3 sub forums for a better targeted response

You can flash it through Odin, no need to go back to stock.

You're confused.
Firstly, Android is a free OS that carriers/developers can use. What your referring to as "newly official released 4.1.2 Jelly Bean" is simply Samsung using a version of Android OS and then adding their software/tweaks to it. They happen to have used v4.1.2 of Android for their latest release.
Latest version of Android is v4.2.1 which is what Cyanogenmod is based on.
CM looks more like real stock Android whereas Samsung rom has a completely different UI experience as it uses its own TouchWiz UI.
If you want to know differences try them.

I am sure you haven't read the XDA rules before posting this. You should have read them before posting anything. Anyways there are hell lot of CUSTOM ROMs and STOCK BASED ROMs, but you have to choose on your own. The one that suits you. Below are the forums for I9100 model and use the search button and see how to ROOT your phone and then BACKUP your current stuff and FLASH any ROM you like:

Installing stock firmware over custom ROM

Hi all i am using CyanogenMod ROM version 10.2. I want to go back to Jelly bean 4.1.2. Wanted to know if it would be possible to flash the 4.1.2 jelly bean stock firmware over a the custom ROM. What I mean is, would it be possible since what I am installing is a stock firmware and not a ROM. Thanks
