In previous versions of the Shostock ICS ROM, when I used voice commands with my Blueant Q2 headset, it automatically used Samsung Voice Command for making hands-free calls (worked great). But since I upgraded to 4.1.4, it defaults to Google Voice Dialer and then doesn't work. I can't find GVD in the applications list to deactivate nor can I find a way to make SVC the default.
Shoman didn't have any idea about the problem.
Can someone help?
Thanks in advance.
I think shoman misunderstood your original question when he responded about installing SVC yourself, but you only gave him a couple hours to respond to your clarification about setting the default before you posted over here.
Which voice command pops up for you now when you press the search button on the phone? The Google Now one that has "Search, or say Google" in the search bar or a different one?

When I press the button my Blueant Q2 headset, the Google Voice Dialer pops up. The little red circle to the right of Google then has a never-ending circling line and GVD never seems to engage.
I want SVC to pop up, not GVD.
Does that help? Can you help?
BTW, I just upgraded to Shostock 4.1.4.
Gotcha. I think I understand. Have you tried a long press on your phone's search button to pop up all search/dial options and set Samsung's to default?

When I press the Search button, Google Now popped up, but I told it "Maybe Later."
I just tried long pressing Search, per your suggestion, and set Samsung Voice Talk as the default. After that, when I long press Search SVC comes up. But when I use my headset, GVD still pops up.
Other ideas?
I do appreciate the help...
After messing around some, this seems to be a problem with 4.1.4. I use AVX as my default and hadn't gotten around to reinstalling it since I flashed shoman's latest. After restoring it, I set it to default and am having the same exact deal as you, a press on the search button opens Google Now but my headset starts the Google dialer with the spinning red circle even though my default is set to something else. A long press on the search button will open my default, though.
Just flashed back to 4.1.2 and the problem persisted, so it isn't the latest version of the Shostock ROM.
So what has changed? I don't know. But being able to voice dial while driving is essential for me and I can't do it now.
Thoughts?

While I have you, have you tested any of the Jelly Bean ROMs available? If so, any recommendations?

Nope, I haven't and probably won't until sho releases one. I'm pretty dedicated to his ROMs.
You want to post about this in the Dev thread or me?

It's more than that. Before Google Now, a press on the phone's search button opened whatever your default was set to (same as a long press on my Plantronics set). Now, a press always opens Google Now's search, and a long press opens your default. I could live with that, but our headsets now always open up neither, it starts the old google voice command. Pretty funky.

Hardly an "epic fail" on your part given the awesome ROM that you have created.
Any solution?
I restored back to 4.1.1 and it works great. As I need hands-free, I'll stick with that until this problem gets ironed out (or you create a JB ROM!).

Well I'm gonna have to remove Google now and offer it as an add on.... Well I'll link to it so people can choose for themselves.
I don't like adding something that breaks something else. There is an s voice that works I guess...I might try that.

Does anyone know how to uninstall/delete Vlingo without using adb?
Or at least change its configuration so it doesnt open when I press 2 times "home"...

Looking at your signature, you are rooted yes?
If so, do you have titanium backup? if so, then you can choose to either freeze or delete vlingo(freezing is the safest option, in case you decide you may want to use the app, or just in case).
You can also use root explorer to delete vlingo.

I had the same problem, bothered me to death; Solution above is the only solution I've found so far. One thing I've noticed though since freezing Vlingo: Now it just sometimes does literally nothing when I press my home button (probably when I use my home button twice with almost no pause between)
(btw: U gotta look for "Speech", "Sprache", "Voice" or something like that, in your language)
Thank you both for answering! I had tried both solutions but didnt find Vlingo to delete, so specially thanks to kaassema for

Because it sometimes starts on accident, for example when pressing the home-button twice fast, when all you wanted was twice the action of a one-button-press...
...or for clarification: I really have no use for Vlingo, nor intention to start it, yet I have seen it's interface at least 35 times already... By accident! Thus disabled it

You can disable Vlingo quite easiily on the Samsung Galaxy S2.
Settings>Language and Keyboard>Samsung keypad>Voice Input
Untick the box and the double click on home no longer brings up Vlingo.

What if I'm using Swype keys?
Seems your suggestion didn't work.
{i'm assuming the settings is overriding global setting}
JohnN6. That does actually not work. Even if you do that, disable the processes and swipe the data for Vlingo, it will always start, with Eula questions and everything, every time you either double-tap home, or more itrritatingly, if you hit your headset button to try and bring up any preferred installed dialer. The latest three software-updates for the S2 has been like this. And to add insult to injury, Vlingo has actually no hope of working for a Swede like me. Even if I tried to voice-dial a Swedish friend, by idiotically trying to pronounce the swedish names in English, it has almost zero chance to do a correct detection.
This software just has to be able to be disabled again (like the first Software version my S2 came delivered with). I am seriously thinking of just throwing the phone and get something else over this issue. Having to touch the phone to dial anyone is in my occupation often putting me in life-threatening situations. So it is really, really bad all of this...
@ SDPlus: I had the same problem and solved it. Using Titanium Backup free version on a rooted SGS2, it was easy (all english commands are translated from German, so could be not perfect):
First I entered Titanium, "Backup & Restore", and searched for "Vlingo". As a result there came "Sprachsuche", which is German for voice search. Pointing on it long enough brought up a menu, where I could choose "backup", and after that I clicked in the same menu on "force to stop". Then I clicked on "uninstall", and off it went.
Since I have a better app for voice dial (cyberon), Vlingo was pain. Now Cyberon works as expected.
Reasons for getting rid of Vlingo (someone asked): 1. I don't want to accept their terrible terms, where I allow to collect data about everything I do , whom I call, when, whatever. Disagreeing ends up in a not working voice-dial, even if you have a paid app for that installed. That is kidnapping. 2. It does not work good enough for me. 3. If I want to be binded to a software, I would have decided to buy an IPhone.
tnx it fixed my problem too
PS: In dutch/flemish it's called "spraakopdrachten".
If you freeze it with Titanium backup the double press doesn't work anymore.
You da man, thanks much for the info.....worked perfetly!!!
I want to take the subject and would like to know if you have any good replacement for the Vlingo app?

The best way which i did last week

For those who already seeking for a salvation:
Get your phone rooted, instally Titanium Backup (even free version).
When you in Titanium Backup press menu and hit Filters, enter Vlingo, Accept. And then Go to Batch operations scroll down to Freeze apps and there you will only see Vlingo sh.t in your language just hit the Run button and you are now FREE FROM VLINGO.

Sorry for the late reply.
In stock and previous versions of Molten, when I press and hold the Search hard button, it would open Voice Commands. As someone mentioned, it's great for driving and being lazy. Currently, it opens up screengrabber.
You cannot clear the defaults on screengrabber. I backed it up and uninstalled it with TB. That is a crappy work around but it does work. Although, it doesn't work with a Bluetooth hands free device. Pressing the search key used to open voice commands, now it simply calls back your most recent call.
I haven't had time to flash M2.2 but I will. Thanks again for the help!
I know a hack is available for AOSP-based ICS ROMs. Will it ever be possible port a voice enabled Google Now to a Sense ROM?
The hack works on sense. I've used it on meanrom ics for cdma. Used the voice search for Google Now app too. Worked pretty well. Only thing is after using it, my battery was draining like no tomorrow. Not sure if it's related to Now or not. I got rid of it just in case.

Yes (sort of). When I first tried it, it was over the July 4th weekend, so the thread was very disorganized as people worked to get things going. I actually followed the instructions from one of the posts in the thread:

I haven't tried it since the OP has everything posted with the voice search add on. It says in the OP that it only works on AOSP Roms, but the one I used from post 142 worked for me on whichever sense based rom I was running at the time (I want to say MeanROM ICS).

Been playing with it today a little. It is a little buggy (can't exit by back button and the JB microphone button does not work as the OP from the Google Now thread said). But, I installed it like the thread said and also installed the Voice App download and the secondary voice widget (although I don't know if that one is needed). If you long press on the magnifying glass, you can have the Voice App for Google Now open so no widget is needed.
The searches were not very natural like the Siri clones such as Vlingo. If I said, "call John Doe mobile" it would say searching "call Johnd hoe mobile" and try to search Google. If I just say "John Doe", it finds that contact on the phone and I can press the contact and then go to the contact page, which are more clicks than just doing that by hand. If I say, "run rom toolbox pro", it searches Google, but if I say "rom toolbox pro", it shows the app as an option and I can click on it and it loads. It actually seems to work better if you don't use the voice functionality and just type what you are looking for.
Be extra careful hitting the back button. If you hit that on the cards page, it locks up the app. To correct it, I had to press home, then to do a long home press and swipe the app away. If you want to leave the app and not have it lock, you have to hit home.
It also puts a weather notification in the status bar.
In the end, I agree with gk1984. I think it would be cool if it was built in to the phone, but it feels bolted on and not very smooth on the 3d. I may give it a few days to see if it is as clairvoyant as they say, but I'm not seeing why I should keep it at this point.
But, try it for yourself and see. As I always say, nandroid backups are our friends.
I also tried the Vlingo beta since that is what the S3 voice app is based off of and it seems a lot smoother.
Well hopefully they'll keep developing this and make it a smoother experience. For right now, it doesn't seem like a significant upgrade from the regular stock voice search.
Also, I didn't realize there was a new Vlingo beta. I'll have to check it out.

Well, it's not all bad. You do get the little cards when you need them. But I don't think that makes it worth keeping personally.
So, I tried it for a few days and it killed my battery. My battery today only lasted 4 hours with 2 hours of screen on time. There were 2000 wakelocks trying to get my location, which I think was Google Now.
Yea, that's no bueno.

I don't think Google Now was meant to be an assistant and follow commands, but I could be wrong. I think this is purely an enhanced search feature. They've be reporting the assistant was supposed to release in Q3 or Q4. They only said development was being sped up very shortly before the release of JB. They may still release an assistant later.

So it's half assed like Siri. The whole idea was that it was supposed to answer questions before you asked.

It actually does on my N7. As you keep using the feature, it'll start showing the relevant cards but I'm not sure if a port will work the same way.
