Can I root? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Just a simple question... I have the most current OTA and I'm unrooted. Am I out of luck if I want to root now and flash a rom?

Yep, regawMOD is what you want:

You can always root.
The question is whether or not you can live with the restrictions the OTA places on you

What does S-off allow me to do? What other restrictions am I looking at? I rooted my og evo nd ran decks rom and I'm thinking of doing the same now.

You can't get S-OFF
You can only unlock the bootloader, which means you can't flash things through the bootloader (Radios, splashscreens, ect),like you could on the OG EVO and you cannot flash kernels the normal way through recovery.

A ROM to perform S-off?

Can someone link me to a Gingerbread stock rom or an ICS ROM I can use to perform S-off? I want to try the all-in-one toolkit for S-off because I always get errors with the other one. Thanks.

You may try RUU at below link ( ICS RUU 3.14.605.10 )

Download it from android police download link on post 4
Use the stock out of the box rom that you unlocked bootloader and flashed su on. You should have backed it up

Iwill probably wont root again until Jelly Bean Update

I lost my root on the last OTA and since there are still no new method to re root on this new version might as well wait till the JB update. I think by Mid August / Sept we can see the new OTA to JB

I almost tried this until I read the following ~ I wanted the fixes in the latest OTA:
"Successful in rooting all builds up to 1.13.651.1."
It works for 1.22. It unlocks your phone and installs twrp. You just have to flash chainfires 0.94 superuser to be fully rooted

Wait, this is getting confusing. We should always be able to unlock thru htcdev on this phone no matter the firmware update. Achieving S-OFF is not yet possible on hboot 1.15, so, that's what some of us are hoping to have...

Yes, S-OFF on hboot 1.15 is a work-in-progress, perhaps with a future Lazy Panda exploit.
I believe the original user's requirement was root and unlocked on the current OTA.
These are HTC phones. You can always use HTC dev as a last resort. We will always have root.
Also, don't accept otas if your rooted or ever plan on rooting.

Believe that s-on with the new hboot restricts u as to what is flashable, ie kernels, splash screens, radios. Whereas the old hboot does not. Why some of us are waiting for s-off on current ota/hboot.

You are probably using SuperSu as the superuser app. You can go into settings of that app and select permanent unroot.
You can then lock up you bootloader by opening a command prompt and going to your adb and using fast boot commands you can type fastboot OEM lock you can then proceed to download the latest ruu 2.13 just search the on here for it and run that with your phone still connected to your computer.
If your soff you can just run the ruu or install a stock ROM via recovery.
Multiple ways to do it just depends on a lot of variables like what ROM your on, s-off or s-on, what hboot your on 1.12 or 1.15, if you just want root gone or you also what to dump custom recovery as well and if you want it completely stock like it just came out of the box.
Let us know some more info and someone will help out

Theres no need to undo the superuser app. Any unroot method is going to install the unrooted ROM

True, but still a way to unroot.
If he just wants to unroot that's the quickest way to do it and probably the easiest.

You are right. That's not what most people want when they go to unroot though. H-boot will still be unlocked/S-OFF and the phone will probably still have a custom recovery (depending on root method)
So get back to us OP

I too would like to know about this, fresh out of the box.
In that case, relock bootloader as per the instructions above, and then run the appropriate RUU for your firmware version.

If S-OFF it requires you to run the S-ON tool as well.
Its really a different process for each root method available

You'll need to re-lock the phone and then run the RUU then.

RUU:

For h-boot 1.15 you'll need the 1.22 RUU
You run it from your computer.

[Q] Does the 3D camera work in the viper3D rom?

Hi,
I've just got an Evo 3D - it's a phone I've always wanted and the stock rom just sucks. I'm looking for a rom that's smooth, ICS, preferably but not essential sense 4, and most importantly where the 3D camera works for stills and videos. I've been reading a lot and I can't quite tell whether it works in viper3D.
If not, can anyone point me to a rom that fits the bill?
Thanks guys
No it isnt ,mwakious might be a nice choice.

Thanks Now just to go through and work out what root and baseband and kernels I need haha.
Ok, so it says I need this baseband..
11.77.3504.00P_11.25.3504.06_M from official release 3.28.707 download it from here
But it doesn't say if I need to install a different bootloader or kernel first.. Do I need to? Do I need an s-off or s-on root?
Is
6.TO ACTIVATE ROOT --> GO IN APPLICATIONS AND OPEN PERMISSION MANAGER THEN TURN ON ROOT PERMISSION (FIRST LINE) AND REBOOT THATS ALL!!!
Talking about something else (i.e. not rooting in the common sense)?

You can forget about flashing anything then.
To answer your question about root in Mwakious rom - no, it doesn't mean it will root your phone, it's superuser which you must enable to get root permissions when you are already rooted

Thanks. I just booted into hboot and it turns out it does already have an s-on root with hboot version 1.53.0007.
The install guide http://www.adammosscomedy.co.uk/Temp/mwakinstall/instmwak.html says I need this to start
"Info Install
With S-OFF and latest Firmware/Radio already Installed" Is this correct?
I have S-off so I'm not sure, but I think you can flash it with S-on. As I said you need 4ext recovery and smartflash enabled in order to be able to flash it. And be sure to backup your current ROM in case you run into problems
