I just got S-off and am trying to upgrade to the latest firmware. Do I have to flash the Rom as described above or can I just flash the global firmware file? I do not want the Rom, just to upgrade the firmware. Also, will I need to flash a recovery again even though I am already using Amon Ra?

Since you're s-off - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614366
The instructions in this post cover the install - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30693834&postcount=263
These downloads don't contain a recovery.img so they won't overwrite your custom recovery.

Instructions can also be found HERE but this will wipe your ROM.

Thanks so much for the reply and the links. My bootloader got locked after I S-off-ed. I did not accept the jp hboot because I wasn't sure. Is there a way to install the firmware other than fastboot or to install a custom hboot like ENG hboot or jp hboot?

You're s-off, doesn't matter if the bootloader is locked, just install the flash via the bootloader.

phone won't boot - request HELP !!!

hi all
Forgot to charge my EVO 3D (CDMA) and battery completely drained. Even after using another fully charged battery my phone goes to bootloop - just shows the HTC logo and reboots again and again. Here is what I have:
hboot : 1.5 (S-ON)
radio : 1.06.00.1216
ota : 2_17.651_5
(I am using this phone in India activated on Reliance)
As the phone doesn't boot I can't access it thru adb to give command 'adb reboot bootloader'
I can get bootloader by pressing vol_down+power
When I run the 2_17.651_5 RUU (exe) from my computer while phone is on fastboot, it completes successfully without errors. But still on reboot it just stays at the htc screen and reboots (guess it's becoz stock kernel not getting flashed as the phone is s-on)
kindly help to get back my phone boot again
thanks and regards

Don't listen to the previous guy. Try using fastboot OEM lock and then ruuing. Or, try getting freezas stock kernel and extracting the boot.IMG and flashing it thru fastboot. Or, you could use fastboot flash recover recovery.IMG to get twrp or clockworkmod and do a superwipe and try flashing a new Rom. There are tons of options if you still have fastboot.

Thanx for responding. As I mentioned earlier,I have already relocked and RUU'd the exe file, but though it runs without errors doesn't solve problem. Again as it is s-on doesn't permit to flash boot.img. Though I am able to flash twrp recovery, not able to get into recovery from fastboot. Thanks again, really appreciate your help.

You don't need to relock once you unlock the HTC way. Just unlock the phone then flash via fastboot the boot.img and then ruu if you want.

thanks. extracted boot.img from freeza's kernel and flashed from fastboot after unlocking. But still doesnt solve problem. Can you give me a link for boot.img
Pleassssssse HELP !!!!!!
I have the exactly the same problem, a full reboot result in boot loop, and can not fix it by now.
I guest the phone is rooted before OTA, so OTA can not flash kernel successfully because the wrong signature, and the phone will not boot because the wrong kernel.
I have tried ruu, fastboot boot recovery.img and etc, all failed.
The key point is that, the phone is rooted and you tried OTA. HTC OTA must have a stupid bug, it can not recovery from a partial update, or automatically roll back becasuse of the partial update, dem!
Please have a look at the guide/flashing notes in my signature. If u r unlocked u are likely not entering recovery correctly.
If u are trying to flash the Ruu u have to be locked or relocked. If u cant boot to android, run the xhausx's full Ruu zip from bootloader.

1) flashed RUU (exe) after relocking - flash completed without errors
2) ran xhausx's full RUU zip (PG86IMG_2.17.651.5.zip) from bootloader (could get into bootloader by pressing volum_up + power button. adb cannot connect to phone (as phone does not boot), to run 'adb rebooot bootloader')
But still doesn't solve problem and phone keeps rebooting, apparently kernel has not flashed properly.

You need to use the RUU 2.17 exe after you relock your phone... Then flash a copy of CWM or TWRP on it..
Then adb
fastboot boot recovery.img
Wipe and flash whatever you want
Just noticed u said India & carrier is reliance. Why would u be using a Sprint USA CDMA Ruu? Shouldn't u be using a GSM RUU version?

Yeah , as I mentioned earlier, I also tried using the RUU 2.17 exe after relocking (RUU completed successfully without errors) , and flashed twrp recovery from fastboot . But still it's a no go.
(Again would like to repeat that I can't boot into bootloader from adb - adb cannot connect as phone doesn't android boot. I get into fastboot by pressing vol_down + power)
thanks all for your responses and help, hope you all will continue guiding me till I get this done.

Have you tried to just run the RUU like you said boot turn debug on .... Then go to hboot flash your recovery...
Then fastboot boot recovery.img.
This should work I have unrooted my phone 3 times already in the past month Trial and Error on my part adb always found my phone...
I am tryin to figure out what is going wrong on the last part with TWRP...
Since you said after you do that it was a no go? What happend ? Adb should still be working since you just flashed the recovery...
Anyways I hope you get it solved man I am tryin to figure this problem out.
Do you have a rom already ready to be flashed on your SD card?
Problem is, since i’m not able to android boot I can't reboot bootloader from adb, as I can't connect adb without the phone normal booting. When I boot it just stays at the HTC white screen.
I have flashed twrp recovery from fastboot, but when I give command 'fastboot boot <twrpxxxxx>.img it just boots back to the HTC splash screen
You can go back to complete stock if you rename the RUU file PG86IMG.zip and load onto the root of sd card. Get into bootloader with [power+volume down] and it will automatically detect and load the zip file. This can only be done if you are relocked. I did this in order to get the latest update. After you get back to stock you can unlock and root again.

As I mentioned in earlier post, have tried flashing PG86IMG.zip from bootloader, but still phone doesn't boot properly and is in a bootloop.
You've used the following file and done these exact steps and allowed the phone to boot to full stock OS? (assuming 2.17.651.5 is correct version)
OPTION 2 - RUU.zip info:
I prefer the .exe version but xHausx’s “FULL” PG86IMG_2.17.651.5.zip may work for you (must be renamed PG86IMG.zip). Make sure you have plenty of battery/charge left!
- (XDA) Xhausx full PG86IMG.zip RUU images (651.5 zips)

USE ONLY FOR EMERGENCY PURPOSES. THIS OVERWRITES EVERYTHING!!!!
**THIS WILL RETURN YOU TO FRESH OUT OF THE BOX**
You will not need any special drivers loaded, etc...
1.Download the stock ROM ZIP image from here: and rename it "PG86IMG.zip"
2.Copy it to SD Card
3.Reboot phone into hboot mode by holding volume down and then press power.
Keep volume down held until you boot into hboot mode.
4.In hboot mode the phone will scan the SD card with the image. Once it finds it will ask you if you want to update. Press "Power" to update.
5.Wait.... For a while. When it gets to "system" it will loop a few times. Its quite nerve wracking actually but after about 5 or 6 times it will complete.
6.Once the entire flash is complete it will prompt you to "press power to reboot." Press power and your phone will reboot to 100% stock ROM.

Stock Recovery
I don't think you need to run an ruu to get the stock recovery back. search and you should be able to find a download link to get the stock recovery and you can just flash that with adb/fastboot.

For stock recovery and latest ruu firmware: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/
Once you download, copy to root of micro sdcard, and rename to PH98IMG.zip

If you are on a stock ROM, all you have to do to replace amon ra is to do "fastboot flash recovery [stock recovery filename].img "
Then if you want to run amon ra again, just do "fastboot boot recovery [amon ra recovery].img"

Found out hard way: you can't just be on the last official RUU (3.14.605.12) to get the new update from Verizon.
ALSO dammit you have to have previously taken the small February update to 3.14.605.13. The update's name mentions
605.13 in its title. The problem is that you can't get that little update anymore!!!!
Those of us with only 605.12 may have to wait until the next RUU is issued. Gripes me.
You realise someone posted the full ruu zip in this thread. You don't have to get it from software update thing

tried that
still looks for 605.13 and craps out with an error message!
how to solve that
In February, Flyhalf205 uploaded the 605.13 OTA.zip in another thread.
The one I could not find anywhere.
You take that little one, rename it update.zip, and flash in hboot.
Do a factory reset and it'll boot up.
Then you can get the current OTA from Verizon.
13 zip is here

Just to Be Sure
I managed to get the OTA getting me to 605.13. So if I want to get to 605.14, do I just get the new firmware zip file, rename it, place it onto the sd card, and install it in HBoot and I am good to go? Just checking to be sure. Thanks.

-or- s-off if s-off and on the latest ota it doesn't matter if you are locked or unlocked. You will need to flash a custom recovery and su when the ruu is done but the update will complete. You can also downgrade the bootloader (hboot) back to a modified one such as vinyl freaks if and only if s-off.

I was on 605.13 stock ICS, rooted and with Amon Ra recovery. I grabbed the 605.12 recover and flashed it and relocked the boot loader. I have tried multiple times to run the OTA (both pulling from Verizon and by putting it on the SD card). It keeps failing with the same 'Wrong Task ID' error mentioned by OP. I even wiped the SD Card, did clear storage from stock recovery, a couple of factory resets to no avail.
Can someone help? Is it possible that the 605.13 OTA a month or so ago didn't install properly since I had Amon Ra. In Software it shows I am at 605.13 so I doubt that. But would you suggest running the 605.13 Update.zip manually and then try to pull the OTA?

You will need to relock the bootloader then run the 605.12 RUU and let that boot up and not modify anything then you will get the 605.13 update first and then the latest after that, that is how I got the update and had no problems at all.

You can't install the OTA as it will fail as you don't have the files it needs to patch.
But, you can manually update your hboot with it.
I'm busy at the moment with work commitment... I'll try to find time tonight to write the How-To. There are two ways of doing it.

Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you * 100000 Thank you:good::good::good::good::good:
updating hboot - method I
Hopefully this will work for you as it works for me.
As promised, here is the method I.
What you need :
1. your Unlock_code.bin that you received from hTC previously when you first unlocked your device. If you lose it, apply for a new one at htcdev.com
2. stock recovery - you can use the one that I posted here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39658620&postcount=1
3. firmware.zip - download the OTA for your CID from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2376707 and extract the OTA.zip, you will find the firmware.zip inside the extracted folder
4. Rename the firmware.zip to PM66IMG.zip
(Note : it is best you enable extension name in your PC so you can see the extension .zip clearly so you won't have something like PM66IMG.zip.zip which is wrong)
5. Make a nand backup of your current ROM with ICS TWRP recovery (I recommend TWRP)
The Method
1. Put the PM66IMG.zip on your sdcard (not in any folder, just on sdcard)
2. Make sure the usb debugging is enabled (check Settings - Developer options - USB debugging is ticked)
3. Reboot to bootloader/fastboot and connect to PC (you should see fastboot usb in red)
4. Install the stock recovery either use the stock recovery installer that you downloaded earlier or use fastboot command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
5. Still in fastboot mode/bootloader - relock your bootloader with command fastboot oem lock
6. Your DX will reboot to bootloader and you will see "RELOCKED" on bootloader and maybe "security warning" under it, just select reboot to bootloader again, you should have "RELOCKED" only.
7. Press power once to go to hboot mode
8. Then you will see the hboot seeking the PM66IMG.zip and will ask "Do you want to start update ?" .. select yes by pressing volume up button.
9. Sit back and relax, let it complete. Once it complete, it will ask to press power to boot, so press power button to boot.
10. Done .. your hboot now updated. (Your device may end up in bootloop if your previous ROM is ICS - so I suggest to flash a JB ROM before you do the procedure)
Additional
1. Reboot to bootloader.
2. Re-unlock your bootloader with the Unlock_code.bin using command fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
3. You will see the unlock page - select yes to unlock (volume up)
4. Your device will reboot - either it will be in bootloop if your previous ROM is ICS ROM or it boots normally if your previous ROM is JB.
5. Put your device in bootloader again
6. Flash a JB TWRP Recovery
7. Restore your nand backup that you made earlier (If that is an ICS ROM, you need to flash an ICS boot.img before that).
8. Or flash any of your favorite ROM.
So try this Method I first. I will tell the method II which is more complicated if this is not working. If the CID is correct, there is no reason for this not to work.
@ckpv5 Thank you so much . My hboot is now 1.25.
But I forgot to flash jelly bean rom. It is in my sd card. But whenever I tried to go to the bootloader. It just go to the HBOOT, and it is asking me to update again. How do I flash JB rom now .
I was too late to read this
(Your device may end up in bootloop if your previous ROM is ICS - so I suggest to flash a JB ROM before you do the procedure)

Select no when it ask (volume down) or take out the sdcard and put in a card reader and delete the file
Yeah, but you should add an extra step for flashing the JB ROM so that people using this guide will know when to do it (I am already on jb hboot, I could update with OTA). I am sure that there are a many people who are first trying the steps without finishing the reading before.

No problem
I should have helped when @supersonictt first asked the question but I was away and expect someone else will assist.
So.. enjoy your new hboot and new ROMs and I guess there is no need for Method II
My hboot is now 1.25.
But Now how did you flash the jelly bean?
Thanks

@musician_it It is already mentioned in ckpv5's post. I am pasting it here for you.
Additional

No you can install ICS roms too, you only need to change something if the rom maker didn't do it already:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2213663
But most roms have that already changed (Like ShadowDX, and MyONEdx), just look in the OP

Bricked my DNA? I am not a smart man...

My DNA is moonshined S-off, CWM, and WAS running like a champ. I've probably put 15 different ROMs on this, and I've never had a problem. I searched and couldn't find anything quite like the problem I'm having. In short, I flashed a new rom yesterday (NuSense 4.4.2) and now I can't get past the white HTC screen or the hboot/fastboot screen. If I select "recovery", CWM flashes on the screen for a few seconds then the phone reboots (to the HTC screen). USB'ing to my PC yields little, it installs all the drivers (except the MTP driver), but never shows up in device manager. I'm pretty much lost at this point. Did I kill it?

First if you can access the bootloader /fastboot from there you can flash anything with ADB working updated.
Second: is good that you give more specific state of your phone so any kind guy from xda(beside me) can help you wisely
Ex; Did you took the VZW OTA 4.2.2 or are you GSM user?, access your bootloader and reply what you see there
S-off we know but are you lock or unlocked, hboot 1.33 xxxx ,Radio 1.308 xxx, or what OK
Look likely you have a old Hboot problem with the wrong Recovery as well non- compatible with Nunsense 4.4.2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2629211
please read requirement to flash this Rom. here you can download the twrp beta and superuser to keep root.
here useful information http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612740
Latest radio 1.01.01.1112 Latest Hboot 1.54.0000 (3.06.605.4 OTA hboot )
I got TWRP installed (I think), but when I try to access it, it just flashes, then reboots.

I believe that's exactly what happened. I had CWM installed instead of TWRP, then flashed NuSense. I was coming from CM11, radio 1.01.01.1112, hboot 1.33.4444. Not sure if it's locked or unlocked (how do I check?)

then hold together power and volume rocker down. to access the bootloader.
my Break is up, (working) back to you later on, but the more info you give is a + so other member may can help you
for now if not, Ill be back with you later.

There should be a couple of ROMs in my storage, but I can't access them. I can access the bootloader screen (fastboot usb, bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, power down) but I can't get to the roms.

may you can push the Rom
Download your rom and put it into your fasboot directory* on your PC
Boot into recovery and choose "install" then "install zip from sideload"
It should say to now type into command promt "adb sideload romfilename.zip"
It then loads it, and you just hit flash after it loads.
adb push rom_name.zip /sdcard/0

Problem is, i have no way to flash anything.
Flash TWRP first
To flash the Recovery:
Place the file in your fastboot/adb directory on your computer.
Put the device in fastboot mode:
(Volume down and power until menu appears, select fastboot using power button)
Connect the device to the computer
The image is easily installed via an unlocked bootloader with the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery imagename.img
For example, I provided a recovery img named twrp.img
So you would type:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

OK, first you flashed other hboot no the one I instructed to , but its ok man let try this: get into TWRP tap advanced then File Manager scroll
down look for Data>media...if you had any Rom should be there look in legacy or 0 then move that rom to sdcard so twrp see it and you can flash it. got it
Can you tap Install in twrp and browse to sd card?
IT'S ALIVE!!!! All my thanks! You're awesome!
