Help, My SGS2 Stopped Working - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Yesterday my SGS2 Stopped working suddenly.
I made some test with another working SGS2 changing their batterys with the following results:
My battery started charging in the other device
My device didn't switch on with the charged battery
The working battery didn't charged on my device
Can somebody help me please?
I have the Litening Rom installed, is the warranty still valid?
Many thanks in advance.

No your warranty is void with custom onboard. Are there any signs of life? Download mode or screen on?
If its completly dead than probably service center will replace motherbord without chacking what was installed.

No, I can't see any sign of life in any mode.
So you'll recommend me to go to the store?

Straight to sammys service centre. But if your phone is brand new you could try to replace it for new one in shop when you bought it.

I had a galaxy do that once, but or some reason I was still able to flash with Odin you might want to give that a shot before taking it in my computer still recognized my phone in Odin don't know why i guess i was lucky but its worth a shot

True, Sometines odin sees the phone even if the phone screen dont turn itself on. But it's rare.

Thanks guys for your answers.
I tried it with Odin but nothing, maybe the battery is empty and as I only have 3 days before the warranty period ends I'll try in the shop.
I let you know with the final solutions.

Galaxy S2 (NO Disply)( Seems Dead !!!

Hello Everyone,
While trying to Flush my SGS2 with a cooked room using Odin my device got DEAD.
This is what happened exactly:
1- After successful room flushing the SGS2 got rebooted but unfortunately it did not loaded the room.(Stuck in boot screen_Black screen with Samsung Galaxy S2)
2- i waited several hours for the galaxy to let go the boot screen but it wont.!!
3- i pulled the battery then put the galaxy back to download mode and retried flushing the room but it was giving the same result.
4- unfortunately after doing the same several times the device got DEAD..
Now:
- I cant power on my galaxy
- When connecting it to PC nothing Happen (Odin does not show any device connected)
- Plugin in the charger, The galaxy got heated.
I am just thinking i have missed up the partition table, please mistake me if i am wrong.
Or any one can help in this.
Note:

yes the 301k resistor does work on the SGS2 aswell.
Just fro your information i have just checked with one of my friends he is having the same issue.
He used the same resistor 310K on both SGS2 & SGS1, unfortunately it only worked with SGS1.
Any way i will try it on my device and come back soon.

same jig for SGS2 .

Damn, yeh i got the same problem, my galaxy s2 is dead. Won't power on and screen is completely blank. So i'm guessing a jig wont help it, unless proven otherwise.
The same thing happened on first boot of my first SGS2. I pressed the Power Button, played for like 2 mins with TW and then the phone stuck and switched itself off.
Long story short, I couldn't get it to switch on again, so I sent it to service and the response was it had a faulty motherboard.
So I think you should return it. My 2 cents.

warranty is not really an issue, I belive under UCC and under normal statutory law in EU that the retialer is legally responsable for 2 years. If it's unfit for purpose in that time, you simply return it. If they refuse, you ask them to put their refusal on paper for the record. Often it turns out fine

Phone bricked. Won't turn on, won't charge, nothing. No signs of life...

Hi!
While installing the revolt rom, downloaded here from the xda, the screen suddenly went black and the phone died. I have tried everything. I can't get to download mod or recovery mode. There's any sign from it... I read somewhere that a jig can help out! What do you think?
Thanks in advance!
[EDIT] The phone is a Samsung Galaxy S2!

Did your phone shut off during the install?
Phone model? When exactly did it shut off?

Based on what you've said, I'm afraid your phone is hard bricked. I say this because the same thing occured to me, only I knowingly pulled the USB out whilst it was flashing a pit file. You mentioned your battery died, maybe leaving it plugged in to charge for over an hour or so might revive it, does the phone become slightly (if not) warm near the camera? If it does, you then atleast know the phone isn't completely dead (from fixing, that is).
I ordered a jig and that didn't work, luckily, my carrier provided a repair service guarantee in which they repaired the phone in a couple of weeks, I just played dumb over the phone prior to sending it off.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I've already instaled a lot of roms downloaded here from xda and never got this kind of trouble! I read somewhere that a jig would take to download mode... Hope so!

You pulled the usb cable out, while flashing a pit file?!
Why? Pit files are extremly dangerous.
I almost flashed a SGS1 pit file once..

S II? Ok.
I9100/G/M/P/T? Your previous ROM? What are you did, more details. more.
If it doesn't go into Download Mode with a jig, then it looks like a full hard-brick.
Do you know why it shut off? Did you fully charge the phone before flashing the ROM? Did you compare the MD5 sums to check that the ROM wasn't corrupt?
I bricked my phone last year. I got Odin FAIL (corrupt ROM) and I pulled the battery. That was it - it was bricked. No download mode - nothing. I sent it off to Three and played dumb. Two weeks later, my phone was fixed.
If the jig doesn't work, your options are JTAG or service center.

I didn't test any of those. The battery was ok.
I also did what s.d.oconnor said, I plug it into the computor but got no response.
The only response I got from the phone, is the warm up near the camera when I plugged it into charge for over an hour.
@bkjugg my previous rom was Wanan lite.
Thank you all.

I feel your pain!.. I just bricked my SGS2 yesterday. Knowing fully how I did it, but just had a brain-f*ck at the time..
I searched everywhere high and low on how to unbrick a hard brick. Already had a jig which didn't work.. tried every type of combo.. It's now going to get dropped into my local samsung repairer tomorrow to get looked at under warranty (as they can not tell how you hard brick it because they is no way of retrieving that information).
Jtag is for US customers, an I am not waiting 5 weeks for my phone.
Although until tomorrow, I am still going to look for a method to wake it up possibly..
I just took it as a known risk of flashing 100's of roms and kernels to my beloved phone..

Hi!
I didn't try a jig because I don't have one. I've ordered one on ebay and I have to wait a few days now and see if it works. If not, I'll send the phone to samsung and try to get it repaired under warranty. If they say that it isn't covered by warranty, I'll try a guy on ebay uk. Just search for jtag s2.
Cheers!!

hard brick advise

hi i have hard bricked my sgs2, it happened while i was restoring a rom from rom manager and my battery died. what i need to know is whether its worth trying a jig because from what i have read ,if the damage is in the emmc chip its un recoverable. and yes i have tried putting recovery mode and download mode but the phone is comlpetely dead , i have two batterys and a desk charger so i know that the battery is ok.. is it worth buying a jig and waiting for it to arrive just to find it wont work or do i put it straight in the shop.. the question is will a flat battery during a restore damage the emmc chip or is it recoverable in anyones opinion. thanks in advance guys............UPDATED ON MY LAST THREAD
Well since there is no such thing as a "soft brick" there is no such thing as a "hard brick". Your device is just "bricked".
Yes its probably worth getting a jig, they cost about £1 of ebay or you could even make your own so why not?
If it is your chip or bootloader then the device is most likely screwed and you will need to send it away for a JTAG or maybe mobo replacement.

Well, if you used triangle away to remove the yellow triangle and reset the flash counter, they wont know whether it was rooted or not. Plus, in a hardbrick, they cant access anything, so you're safe anyways.

It has happened the same to me,from rom manager, worst apk ever.
If your device is under warranty Samsung must fix it for free, they cannot proove that was rooted.
I was afraid for the same reason but in a hour they had fixed it with the last ics update, they dont asked me anything, the evening the device was root again..

[Q] Bricked my S3? Does not respond to anything.

Hi,
I think I may have bricked my phone somehow.
I have an international Samsung galaxy S3 I9300.
I'm using SiyahKernel S3 v1.7rc1 for dual-boot.
ParanoidAndroid 2.51 as primary ROM and Stock Samsung JB as secondary.
I have used the battery mod that comes with the kernel to speed up charging.
Here's what happened:
I have been using this setup for quite some time without any problems, but I have noticed lately that the phone have been rebooting automatically a few times. I didn't think too much about it. Annoying, but didn't happen often. Yesterday I put my phone on charging before I went to bed, and the phone was on. When I woke up the phone had turned off (alarm didn't go off either, so I missed work..) and the green charging notification light was stuck on permanently. I couldn't turn on the phone, it didn't react at all. I took out the battery to reset it, put it back in and tried again. The charging light was gone, but still couldn't turn it on. No sign of life.
I tried my battery in a friends phone and it worked fine. Also tried his battery in my phone, but no change. So seems the battery is not the problem. I have tried to keep the battery out for some time, holding buttons to drain all power, but no change.
It doesn't respond to any cable being plugged in either (USB or charging), so can't flash anything.
I'm lost here really. The phone doesn't respond to anything any more so I have no idea what to do to fix it. And I'm guessing if I send it back for repair they're not going to accept it as it's not stock. Would really appreciate any help.
Hi,
Are you able to put your phone in download mode at least? It happened with my old Galaxy S and the only thing worked was download mode.
If download mode is possible, try to flash a new rom via odin and than install siyah kernel to remove the 2nd rom partition.
Good luck.

Send it to a Samsung Service center.
Overdriving the battery charging circuit comes with a cost. That is it and now your phone is FUBAR.
Have you tried shouting at it loudly and calling it a few names? You're out of luck, it seems (needs returning to Samsung) but at least it'll make you feel better!

If they can't boot the phone, they'll simply replace the defective board, restore your original IMEI, wipe your phone and send it back to you.
At least that is what has happened to other users whose phones had the same fault as yours, and for the same reasons.
I guess your phone is still under warranty, isn`t it? If so, just get it repaired under warranty and let this be a lesson that nothing comes free, including fast-charging the battery.

Plus, the phone is knackered, so you don't have anything to lose by trying, really!
Man: had this happen to me today as well, and now that I notice, I see LOTS of similar reports.
FWIW: Most people weren't "fast charging" their phones; there's clearly just a hardware fault somewhere.
What was your official stock firmware you were running?

[Q] Galaxy can't be booted no more (doesn't do anything)

Hi, my Galaxy's counter - even if rooted - is set back to zero and the triangle did not show anymore.
Now the actual issue: Yesterday I tried to take a screenshot which miserably failed while the device froze and I had to force reboot it. This proved to be in vain as well, though, as it always stopped with the first graphic (samsung galaxy s2 logo). After two forced shutdowns, unfortunately, it did not bestir itself at all no more.
A change of the battery did not turn out successful either. Not surprisingly, the download mode is not accessible and, similarly, putting it on the charger it does not show any response as well.
What can I do? Would the repair center be able to find that it was rooted?
Best regards,
didb
Can you get into recovery? More info. What Rom? What recovery? Is it rooted?

Can't get into recovery mode. Rom was the official jelly bean one which was "unofficially" transferred to the Galaxy S2 by developers but not released by Samsung officially. Hope that makes sense. And yup - as I mentioned - it is rooted.
Yes it makes sence. Jig to force it to download mode and flash with Odin. Have you pulled the battery out for 5 mins then try? Sometimes work.

I tried taking it out for the whole night twice now. No success.
Jig doesn't help either.
Jtag may work.if service Center brings it to life and sees the custom Rom then yes they will be able to tell you rooted it.

That's what they call riff box, mh? Or "Android Debug Bridge"? The weird thing is it didn't even happen while flashing. It worked for almost a year without hesitation and then I took a screenshot and it just dies? -.-
Does seem funny to happen like that. No one messed with it? Screen shot and after that dead? If jig isn't getting it to download mode then there is something bad that has happened

I know it's crazy. After the screenshot it would only load until the Samsung logo and right after that it was fully dead. Would you try your luck with the service partner ?
Tbh you don't have a choice. Or take it to local shop for Mb repair. either way Mb needs to be replaced now so go with service Center if they find its your fault and cost to much get it sent Bk to you and take to local shop for repair.
