Samsung keyboard dock with CM roms ?!?! - Galaxy Tab 2 Accessories

So I've had my Tabby2 10.1 for a while, humming with CM10 !!
I'm looking in to buying the samsung keyboard dock, but my conserns is if I will get full functionality with custom roms such as CM10 or CM9 ?
Any input would be much apreciated !

No as i read their are lots of complains esp from student edition tab which comes with keyboard about keyboard not working with cms due to proprietary drivers required for it to work either buy bluetooth keyboard or do not buy keyboard dock or install debloated stock as fryrom or so according to your device model 5100, 3113 etc

Thnx for your input...unfortuneatly I'll have to revert back to twealed stock, ince I really want the keybord dock when traveling e.t.c !

is there no way to extract the driver from the stock rom and include it into CM?
I've ordered the keyboard dock but currently having CM10 installed and it is running so nice - like! If there is absolutely no way I will restore stock.

No there is not if it were that simple the problem wouldn't be here. The problem is they are proprietary drivers that are meant for touchwizz roms not aosp roms.

I'm thinking about buying a wireless one (Bluetooth). Then you bypass the driver issue. I came across a Dutch review in which the Apple wireless keyboard was re com mens Ed, even for Android tablets. Also Logitech sells them.
Edit: just saw that the dock keyboard service has been added in the latest nightly. So Samsung dock keyboards might work now.

The keyboard dock should work in CM10 with the latest commit from codeworkx. That's how I have it working in the AOKP JB builds.
I have a Logitech bluetooth keyboard and love it. Works with all my Android devices.

Thank you both. Would like to have that keyboard because the reviews are pretty positive. But they don't sell them over here.

May be you can try via Germany? I bought it on Amazon for about 30€ (but for the 7") - may be that they ship it to the Netherlands?
Is it now working for the 7" and 10" - on both CM9 and CM10?

I think you can use a bluetooth keyboard
I read reports from other users that keyboard dock work with the latest Aokp release it is like cm but more customizable, you could try it

Samsung Dock working fine on GT-P3110 with CM10 nightly but not supported in CMOC10 kernel.

Which Samsung keyboard dock can you use with the tab 2 10.1? The one which was released for the original 10.1? Or is there a new one?

Yes, it will work but not all keys will be functional. For example some hot keys will not work. For example:
* Application key
* Show/hide keyboard
* Brightness + / -
* Language switch
and some minor keys.
But don't worry. It is not a problem, as you can always tap a screen for missing functions. The main thing that all letter-keys, numbers, arrows, backspace/delete and etc. are working. I am running AOKP/Cyanogenmod with pershoot kernel 3.1. Keyboard dock works perfectly for typing, navigating etc. They've managed to make it work now, as previous versions had really some problems.

Audio out from Samsung keyboard is also issue

go w/ the kensington key folio it has a case but im runing cm max and its the only one that i found that is fully functional and more cause most cm roms have key bored shorcuts that only work w/ an external key boared

The CM9 nightlies are working great for me

AOKP has been running great for me.
Classic Nerd and CherryKang working great here.
This is liking who has the best Pizza.. Everyone has a preference.
Since these are APLHA, each will have a plus and minis to them.
CM9 Alpha 2 has nightlies, so they are doing this and that, and it might break CM or not. So staying up to date CM is the way to go.
ClassicNerd and AOKP are also work in progress setting out on updates that are as stable as can be, but, nothing always works perfect. Its ALPHA's per se
I would load in CM first since it all started with them. Test it and if seems stable enough, save it using CWM. Then start checking the CN AOKP Cherries and all..
This is what is nice, you can save anything and test it.. If you LIKE IT, stick with it..
I use both CM9 A2 on my TP and CN on wifes.. No problem with either than no Netflix on CN..But there is always a work around..
My 2 cents.
I've tired just about all of them. While most worked I found most also had one problem or another at least for me. For example some didn't support my HP Bluetooth keyboard properly. IE when using the keyboard the soft-keyboard also poped up and all the keys on the physical keyboard didn't work properly. Others had WiFi issues. Despite connecting to the same WiFi hot spots some ROM's couldn't reliably make a connection while others worked 100% of the time.
In the end I'm using the CM9 nightly since it at a least for me has no issues and everything I use works great, good WiFi, Bluetooth keyboard etc.

nope. there's numerous android tablet available in the market. out of the box ready to use.
well if they perform the same, I dont mind to tinker a bit with it. and its cheaper too
cm9 works good
i waited until CM9 A2
its solid, but not perfect (camera not working)
I'm not doing nightlies because there have been a couple problems and don't want to risk bricking anything
ultimately, it is all what you like better, several options.
i'm waiting for beta now
(and btw thank you to those involved in dev work!)

still no. In a month or two, ASUS will be releasing a Google tablet that will likely be better spec'd for less than you can buy a touchpad for today. It will in all likelyhood see just as much love as the touchpad, if not more so due to availability.
hmm.. I could get a used touchpad for $150
#14
but the Asus Tegra3 tablet will be 7'' wich is as close to my phone than to my TP...
7 inch is too small for a Tablet IMO, especially with all the new phones that have a screen size of 4.3''++

I'm like you, I kind of like tinkering. If I wanted a phone/tablet that worked out of the box, I would get an apple (don't hate, you know what I say is true). But I like tinkering, trying new ROMS, and I'm kind of a flashoholic. So I bought the touchpad for 160. Tell me where else you can get this kind of hardware for that price?
I prefer Classicnerd, but right now it doesn't support Netflix and YT HD, so I am on CM9 official nightly. Right now its the most up to date from out there with the new ICS 4.0.4 merge just released from Google. Its sleek fast and right on.

I have a Touchpad and a Galaxy Tab 10.1 (got it refurb'd). Performance wise, they are very similar (both on ICS). The touchpad actually benchmarks a little bit higher than the GTab.
I'm running AOKP milestone 4 CM9 on both tablets, and I can tell you the TP runs ICS silky smooth. Neither one has a working camera in ICS, but I don't use it, so it's not a bother to me. The TP does tend to have more bugs (wifi for some), and mine had the sleep of death until I disabled the lock screen, and installed a different kernel (don't know which one fixed it, lol).
The G-Tab is a bit nicer, lighter, thinner, and has a better/sharper screen. But for the price, the Touchpad really can't be beat.
why? The touchpad is great for the price! If you can find a cheap one you've struck gold. Look, if you don't like/ want to flash roms get an android tablet. Me, im a flashaholic I like to flash the lasted of everything. Its an addiction I need to stop

Any ICS ROM in which headset control works

Hallo folks
Since ICS the headset button control does not work (experience based on latest stock Rom and miui), and notably when the screen is off. I any app solution (headSet DROID, jazzy headset, button contro) does not work either. I guess the solution is somewhere deep inside the system. Is there any ROM, and custom or stock, in which the headset works as it should. It is important for me since I often use the razr while on bicycle
Thanks

Nothing dramatic... I am using this headset nearly 4 years and can't complain - it doesn't drain battery much...
Have a look at the newer version recently released by sony which supports bt 4 so the consumption should be even lower...
I too would love to figure this out. The same thing happened with my SE Xperia X10 when they did their first big FW update to GB. Really annoying.
I have a Grom Bluetooth system in my car and the steering wheel controls don't work so I'm anxiously waiting for some way to fix this.

Your best bet will be to support ROMs like Paranoid Android, which will let you get a "phablet" or Nexus 7-like experience (by changing modes).
Well, once we get the official JB release... and once the kernel is merged into CM... I will spend some time and get ParanoidAndroid working...
But just so you're clear, the Nexus 7 UI is built for a device generally meant to be used vertically... whereas as the Prime and other 10' devices are generally meant to be used horizontally... so the N7 Phablet UI may not look that great in landscape mode on a device this big!!

About kernel 3.x on Prime
Probably this will be OT, but someone have an idea when will be available the kernel 3.x for TFP ?
There is someone that are working on it ?
I know thart rhe nexus 7 have the tegra3 and have JB4.1 and kernel 3, so, if source are available, should be possibile to port the kernel 3.x for prime (and in general for all tegra3 device).

++++1
I have had my Transformer Prime for 5 months but i'm still a bit disappointed by the lag on it (Stock Rom) (it's not really smooth when i change applications or sometime i can get "not responding" with the wait or OK.) Even though with the recent JB update. I can't feel the Tegra3 power (lol)
I've recently tested Nexus 7 for 2 weeks from a friend (so with the JB 4.1.2 update for the native landscape). I was very surprised by the responsiveness! I really enjoy to use it and i really like the Nexus7-like
I don't know why people like the Full tablet UI. So smart in Nexus7 UI to put the soft key on the bottom-middle of the screen instead of the bottom left corner. (especially when you play). Even though the notification bar on the top of the screen (even though Apple on their iPad, it's on the top (ok they didn't have the choice regarding iOS iPad UI).
I'm looking forward to get Paranoid with Jelly Bean 4.1.2 on the Transformer Prime!
Thanks in advance for all the people who will work on it. I'm staying tune to watch the first TF201 post with Pandroid and (finally) leave Asus (JB) Stock ROM

[BOUNTY] IrDA stack for AOSP / CM

So I've noticed that IrDA port isn't working on AOSP roms.. After searching around I saw that people keep on bringing it up over and over again - however, it keeps on getting forgotten about.
So I thought maybe we can start a bounty for a dev who can figure out how to make the thing work and compatible with existing applications on the market (Smart Remote, Touchsquid, Peel). **or** develop an root-enabled version of a remote control app that can work without the need for the IrDA service (see below) and is semi-usable (say with generic Pronto codes)
The only thing I was able to find is this post --
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36283352&nocache=1&z=1999432687849488
That talks about the ir_send file and the need for a service with two functions.
I'll start by putting down $40.
So I wonder - does anyone actually want this feature working? Seems like people don't care that much about it on AOSP.. Maybe the thread needs to be moved into general Android dev - might get a betterer response.
IMO, IR is a "wow look at my new shiny phone" feature. When people install a custom ROM they're giving up things like smart screen, the screen hover stuff, and a ton of other pretty cool but not practical features.
So while it would be nice to have a working IR port, it would also be nice to have smart screen working for the head orientation based screen rotation, and the cool finger hover effects, it will not prevent me from going to AOSP.
tl;dr - It would be nice to have, but it's not a deal breaker.

This in spades. All of the strange little features that come on the S4 don't matter to me nearly as much as the speed and customization offered by custom roms/kernels. Of all the silly features, though, having a working ir blaster would probably be my first choice.
Once Google releases the nexus version we will have the drivers and everything for the IR emitter

Why Sony dont help to code HDMI functionality ?
Up to now i see NO full functional CM for Tablet Z.
I need HDMI/MHL and so i have to use Original 4.2.2
I think my next Tablet is Samsung.... or Nexus..... grrrr....
I doubt MHL works on CM for any device, really. I think it works on Nexus devices, but I;'m not too sure about that either. Usually things like MHL are the last thing to get fixed, if it gets fixed at all.
Hdmi out works here with latest aokp rom.
