revert to ICS from JB - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have installed slim bean on my vibrant but found it laggy....so i wants to back to ics ...now i m flashing ics rom but getting error as installation aborted.
I have flashed glitchy kernel but no luck
Help me

Odin back to stock first. I think your treading on dangerous territory if you try to go from JB to ICS directly.

I agree with Toast ^^
I always suggest going back to stock via odin before doing anything like that, just to be safe.
If you can't or are in a rush,....you can get back to ICS from JB in the usual way (full wipe, flash)...I do it all the time, since odin isn't an option for me
at the moment...so I can assure you it's more or less safe, since my phone is still running just fine even though I've gone back and forth without odin quite a few times.
But again, if possible....always odin.
Good luck!

Finally tried to flash phone with odin but i m not able to go into download mode...i have tried 3keys combo, usb jig but no luck.
Now phone is stuck on samsung vibrant screen maybe now its bricked.
Any suggestions wat to do now ?

Sometimes it can be tricky getting into DL mode. Try pulling the battery, have phone plug in to the cable/PC, hold button combo and put the battery back in. Also try different ports on PC doing this. If you have any life you are not hard bricked so don't panic!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium

Tried both ways to enter into bootloader but no luck..
I m not able to go into recovery or download mode.
I m feeling i have killed my vibrant
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

when did last time u used download mode? were u able to use recovery after flashing slimbean? u should have odined back before installing ics ............I think if u can't enter both recovery and download mode then u might have hard bricked ur vibrant.........

Downgrading
When downgrading, upgrading or flashing new roms, it is always good practice to odin back to stock. This will help remove any "ghost" files that may still be around.
Sorry to hear about your phone but don't give up. Keep searching the forums and you may find a way to fix our phone.

I have searched all forums but not found any gud answers .
Is there any way to unbrick hard bricked phones ?

I heard about one click unbrick ......just search it ......that will be ur last hope............if that won't work then u got ur self new fancy paper weight .....sorry cantdo anything .......if u are in India then give to Samsung service centre they might help

Just because you don't see the graphic showing download mode doesn't mean you cannot get in it.
In a post a couple days ago called "I need help!" Woodrube posted a guide about it.
Open Odin, plug in your USB to PC, not phone yet.
Now try to enter download mode. You may set no graphics or black screen but, it doesn't mean Odin won't see your phone. Its happened 3 times that I know of in the last couple days. Since you can still see the Vibrant text all hope isn't lost.

Just some "in case you need it" info, you can go to
www.mobiletechvideos.com
They can do a JTAG repair to fix a hard brick. They can also perform the unbrickable mod. They are very professional and have fast service. I shipped my phone off from Washington D.C. to them in Texas on a tuesday, I had my phone back on monday. They stayed in contact to notify me when my phone arrived, when they completed and shipped.
Hopefully no one will need their service but JIC.

[Q] Vibrant stuck on load screen

First off, I want to apologize if I ramble on. I am trying to be as thorough as possible.
Also, I am relatively knowledgeable about rooting and whatnot, so hopefully I will understand whatever help you guys can give me.
Here's my problem:
I originally had Bionix-V 1.3.1 (which is a 2.2 rom), and I wanted to upgrade to a Gingerbread rom. So I downloaded "Trigger Redux" (addictivetips.com/mobile/install-android-2-3-5-based-custom-rom-on-t-mobile-samsung-vibrant/) and followed the instructions completely. The instructions told me to do a nandroid (which I did and it went perfect), then factory wipe the phone and wipe the dalvik cache (which I did), and then run the Trigger Redux zip from the sd card (which I did). Everything worked fine, but when I started messing around with the new rom, I didn't like it as much as my old rom, so I decided to reboot the phone into recovery to perform the nandroid restore. When my phone rebooted, I noticed the clockwork recovery looked different from what had before (it was orange, when the old one I had was red). Anyways, I tried to do the nandroid restore, it gave me an error about not being able to perform the nandroid for whatever reason (I honestly don't remember what it said now). So did a factory wipe again, thinking that may allow the nandroid restore to perform properly, and I still got the same error. So I restarted my phone, and now I'm stuck on the Vibrant logo screen. I can get into download mode (by plugging in usb/pressing vol up and down/inserting battery), but not sure how to get my phone into recovery mode again. I know I can probably use Odin, but I'm not real familiar with that program and I wouldn't know where to start.
What's the first thing I should do? I know my phone is fixable, I just don't know where to start Any help is very greatly appreciated. You guys are awesome!

Yes you need odin but you won't be bricked if it fails for any reason. I have odin fail a few times and you start it back up and try again. The only way you can brick with odin is during a bootloader flash

Why would you pull the cord? Never check auto reboot and if it fails just close odin and restart it. If you pull the cord and reboot with a half flashed phone then yes that would probably brick you

that's exactly my point...according to other person he says odin to stock won't brick a phone...so i was just telling him to pull the plug out while it's running the procedure...and of course that will brick his phone and a prove that yes odin to stock can brick your phone... of course pulling a cable would be stupid...but what if your computer restarts all of the sudden or u lose electricity...stuff like that...can cause a dam hard brick....

[Q] Need Help! sgs2 stuck

Hello i have an sgs2 from At&t and i was trying to root but was unsuccesful and now i have this message on my screen when i turn it on " Frimware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I could use any advice or help. I have search and tried alot of things but no luck. Please thanks.
What method did u use to root?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
And importantly did you attempt the recovery through kies?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
i used the "how to easily root your sgs2" method using odin. I tried to use the recovery through kies but it asks for a code and it wont connect to my phone.
It sounds like your phone is still half functioning. Try booting into recovery,
With the phone off hold down both volume keys and power button until you see the first screen, then let go of the power button.
If it's stock recovery you'll be able to do a factory restore(wipe). If CWM choose wipe data factory reset.
After rebooting it might work.
Worst case you can put it back in download mode and try odin again.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
If you can't get it into download mode you may have serious issues.
Might need to build a usb jig or buy one.
Contemplate a return.
If you tried everything, and I mean everything to get it into download mode, i.e. jig, "adb reboot", then neither can they. Can't see anything you did.

You never did tell us what KIES has to do with ROOTING ?
I would definitely flash back to stock. Stock will never further mess it up. Not to mention there is the stock rom that's prerooted. By using that one you won't get a yellow triangle on boot. Nor will the counter go up from changing the kernel.

If he downloaded an international rom then he can't use the stock recovery as the power button on the international roms aren't the select key. They have an actual hardware button to select. I found that out the hard way.

At least you got download mode working. With that working there should be no issue about fixing your phone.
Just keep in mind depending on if "everything flashed from the international version you possibly will also need to flash the right modem.
I wouldn't worry about that until you got the phone up and working.
It's best to keep each step as simple as possible, especially for the first time you're trying it.

ok so i downloaded the stock rooted rom and im using odin 1.85 but it stops at factoryfs.img, any ideas??? thanks again for all the help
Not good. I wish I could offer more help. At least it didn't stop at flashing the bootloaders.
There's not too much you can do at this point. You can try waiting seeing if it changes.
You can hope if you do unplug it that you can get it back into download mode. Then try odin again. Though I'd make sure the checksum of the download matches up to make sure it downloaded properly.
No one wants to be the one to say unplug it in the middle of an odin procedure, but if no progress is being made after a reasonable amount of time, there's not much left to do.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 unresponsive- white screen

Hi,
To preface this, I have never posted on a forum before as I have always been able to find people with similar problems. However, this time I am stuck.
I had my I777 rooted and running the Task650 aokp JB rom. Everything was working great. Then I decided to get greedy and tried to dual boot an ICS rom in order to get MHL capabilities. (Shostock ICS) I used this thread as a guide. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890274) I did not realize that it was for the Note 2, not the S2...
However, I think I still could have gotten myself out of trouble if my phone had not run out of power during installation. The phone abruptly shut off, and when it came back on, the Samsung logo appeared for a second before slowly fading out to a distorted white screen. I cannot get into recovery mode, it only shows the white screen when it is plugged in, and my computer will not recognize it. (I should note that computer never recognized it when it was running jelly bean, but I never bothered to fix it.)
I took the battery out overnight and tried it in the morning. no change. I left it plugged in all day, this caused it to get very hot and I quickly unplugged it.
I have posted a YouTube video that briefly shows the boot loop and the white screen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEuR3qn9Grs&feature=youtu.be
The most recent fix I have tried was ADB Portable, but my computer did not recognize the phone.
I'm out of ideas and desperate. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You
Did u try to get into recovery with the button combo...without the micro usb plugged in ? (I see u had it plugged in in the video).
Can u get into download mode ? Gotta jig ? And if yes, then u will need to flash a stock firmware.

Ok, thanks. Just ordered a jig. Will update when it gets here. Does it matter if the stock firmware is GB or ICS? I cant remember what it had on it before I flashed the JB rom.
Doesn't matter...GB or ICS. Whichever u want to choose.
Just don't do a wipe data/factory reset on the ICS firmware i777ucle5 with the stock le5 kernel, because of the potential eMMC brick bug. See the stock firmware threads for more info. And yep, keep us posted on what happens.
Later.

You might give some more info on what all you did or what file you were trying to flash....
Sounds like the problem of Gingerbread root on ICS system, or vice-versa. Just redo your work, ensuring you use the appropriate file for your system.
By the way, NEVER tweak your system until you learn to move important stuff to your external sd card or pc.

OP was using odin which means he was trying to install a rooted kernel most likely from a different android version or he was installing CWM. So I highly doubt he has CWM installed and functioning. So how is he going to boot into CWM??
Well I guess I thought he followed the proper instructions and installed cwm first. I admittedly skimmed most of the posts.

[Q] Phone stuck on Booting

Hi
My phone is stuck on splash screen and have tried hard reset but phone does not turn;s on.
Phone doesn't connects to KIES even on boot screen??
Can anyone help me ??? Its URGENT
Pretty sure your phone is supported by kies mini, not kies.
You cannot perform a software recovery or update with kies mini. You could try flashing the stock ROM back onto the device or send it in to Samsung for a free software reflash.
If you send it in to Samsung it will take about 2 weeks.
Your carrier may be able to perform a software reflash as well.
Just curious...has your phone ever suffered liquid damage? It can cause damage to components on the PBA that would prevent it from booting up.
Hope this helps! Feel free to pm me if you have any questions

If you were using kies when this happened then your phone is basically a paper weight unfortunately. Kies is notorious for hard bricking phones so for future reference, stay away from kies. Best way to upgrade is flashing custom ROMS through cwm recovery mode. Try and flash back to stock with Odin, I have heard of people being able to get Odin to see the phone even if your not in download mode. If that doesn't work then maybe try buying a USB jig to get into download mode. If that doesn't work either then try calling Samsung and tell them kies bricked your phone, they have replaced out of warranty phones before due to kies bricking them.

it got hard bricked using odin only... kies was not running that time...i flashed stock ginger bread rom over stock froyo and using 512 pit file... and it displyed failed on ODIN..and then when i removed the phone battery first and then USB unplugged.... pushed back battery again..pressed both volume button...booommm no screen till then...i really dont know what to do now...
Samsung will not replace a phone bricked by kies, not sure who told you that.
Samsung's warranty doesn't cover replacements only repairs.
If your phone was bricked by kies they'll be able to fix it though.
A reflash would solve your problem if you can't get it to flash in Odin.
Their system doesn't require you to be able to get into download mode.
Hope you're able to get it working if not send that biatch in
Reflash is free in or out of warranty

Search the forum, multiple people have reported getting their phone fixed for free because kies bricked it. I wouldn't say it if it wasn't true....

Fixed yes but not replaced
I work for Samsung, and I wasn't trying to be rude, I was just informing you of our standard policies.
To the OP,
I hope some of the guides to unbricking on here will help you as they have helped many others.
I myself have had some bricked devices up and running using these forums without having to send it in
