ok so i got this phone around 20 days back. i set up the fb account (both in Android app for fb and facebook inside Xperia), and have synced the contacts. but i dont see my contacts being "synced" in real sense. i mean, when i see my contacts, they are just normal contacts, without pictures without the status updates and profile link. as if the FiX is not even working.
ok i know there are apps that allow me to sync pictures from fb and merge them with my contacts, but shouldnt the default well known Facebook inside Xperia work on its own?
am i doing something wrong here?

well, it is weird if you have done all that you sad previous.
I guess you missed something in order to setting the Facebook for Xperia to run properly. but, if you didn't miss anything, perhaps you can repair it by PCC or SEUS or flash it again using flashtool.
Follow this

And you will see both Facebook and phone contacts. Then you can put together these contacts, which are the same. The system doesn't place FB and contacts together, even if the name is the same(I think).
i sorted out the issue using the app called facebook contact sync!
Check out performance assistant app, turn on facebook inside xperia
Note : it may decrease phone performance, I suggest you to turn off features you don't want, such as ANT+...
Edit : sorry I think you are in 4.0.4, but you are 2.3.x

I'm experiencing the same issue on my Mini. I had never used Facebook for Xperia, but reading this thread I decided to give it a try. And here are my results:
The first screen shows a phone contact which has been synchronized with both Facebook for Android and Facebook for Xperia. As you can see, I have his phone number (Cellulare) and the only thing I managed to sync is his birthday (Data di nascita).
The second screen shows a contact I don't have in my phone. It's been synchronized with both Facebook for Android and Facebook for Xperia, and all I can see is his Name, his birthday and that he's married. Interesting.
The third screen shows a contact I don't have on my phone. It's been synchronized with both Facebook for Xperia and Skype. As you can see, his personal picture (from Skype) is correctly shown, together with informations from both Skype and Facebook.
Other synchronizations (calendar and photo albums through Facebook for Xperia) work just fine. Contacts seem to be bugged.
I thought it could depend on the fact I had frozen Timescape and its extensions. I tried and unfroze everything, but nothing changed.
I don't think it's because I'm using exDialer&Contacts as a system app (switched with Titanium Backup), could it be?
your phone doesnt simply sync the contacts that are only in your phonebook (ie with a number). it brings in all the contacts from whatever accounts you've setup for sync. so its actually showing you all the contacts, phone contacts (with number), gmail contacts, fb contacts and skype, plus any other service that you would setup to sync.
in contacts, touch menu and select filter, choose the account you want to see contacts from. and you're done

Looks like you didn't understand the problem, or didn't read my post at all.
Ok i got today similar problem. I sit for it for half hour and problem solved. Just make sure you have activated
1. menu --> performance assistant --> facebook inside xperia
2. in settings --> xperia --> facebook inside xperia
then for sure deleted all facebook acconunts in settings --> accounts and sync and manually add account FACEBOOK INSIDE XPERIA
if is all right you must see in this account three items (albums in gallery, calender, contacts)
Now just sync it and after few momments check contacts list.
If you help this pleas write and hit thanks button

Timescape has nothing to do with Facebook in Xperia.
I don't see a problem there. Only the info, that you can see on the person's profile, is available on your phone. In some cases, if the name matches fully(first and last name set properly), then contacts are placed together, if not then 2 separate contacts.

There are not separate contacts. The contacts are automatically merged, and you can see it from the first picture. A phone contact (I only have his phone number) is merged with the information from Facebook (his birthday) but I can't see his personal picture or his facebook posts.
But maybe this is just how it should work. I don't know. I was sure that Facebook for Xperia would have synchronized Pictures and Facebook status as well.

The pictures should be synchronized, I got that feature on gingerbread, status only if you had set it to do it(Contacts-Settings, I think).
I didn't have chance to test it on ICS.
Contacts are only merged if first and last name match. On my phone, it didn't happen, as importing contacts from another phone resulted in whole name in Last name section.

You need to show all contacts even without numbers then link each contact yourself to a facebook contact then once u have do that unchaeck show all and check without numbers then uncheck show facebook contacts so only your google contacts show and boom all your contact will have there pics in place i had the same problem on my eperia p hope this helps u out my friend
I remember from earlier Galaxy phones that I could sync my contacts photo with the photo they had on Facebook. Did they remove the feature on the S III?
Nobody even remembers this from earlier?
No the feature is still there ...u just need to manually link a few which are not automatically detected... Just click on a contact and link with Facebook account.. And then on Facebook tab click on the pic and select option use this picture for contact
It's annoying they dont have the 'get friends' option from the GS1 so i can select individual facebook contacts to add to my phone.
Rather than either syncing them all and deleting the ones i dont want or syncing with existing and it not matching some of them.
you can manually choose which friends you want to display in the contacts' settings...

I can't say that's possible. I can't find it at least, and I've tried a couple of times.
Hey,i worked a bit on my phone marging the numbers to the right facebook profile so ill be able to see my contacts with their facebook profile picture.
The question is how do i save it all?i mean,i once did it then when i switched ROM and loaded the gmail contacts they loaded but without all the pictures.
Any solutions to save it so when ill wipe / change ROM the facebook profile picture will remain?
I'm using the "SyncMyPics" app.
This will sync all pictures of Facebook with ur contacts (lokal/google) without having synchronize with Facebook app etc.
So this means after sync of pics, u can sync to Gmail and all is fine also after a restore because pics will be saved, too
Hope u understand what I wrote

yes i see,but in my case there are names in hebrew and on facebook they appear in english so the software doesnt recognize them..this application can sync the pictures that already exist (because i marged each contact with facebook) to gmail account?
edit:
FOUND THE SOLUTION!
i found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550068
its a great software and working well, the facebook picture will remain in google's contacts and theres an option to update the pictures of the profle(in case the person changed the picture and you have the old one)

Oh ok...
No the software only load the pics from the profile of each person and set this to local profile in contacts. This profile will be sync to Google (Without the software)
And u Facebook contact only sync with facebook so no direct contact from pics to local profile (bad explained )
Hmm...
No idea atm, but that was the reason why I used the software.
PS: Only option I see is to download all Facebook pictures and set them as profile picture on ur phone contacts
Sorry and CHEERS

I used haxsync based on a suggestion on another post and while it did properly update my profile picture for my contact it is still showing the previously assinged picture when I message anyone. How can I fix this?

Anyone? My contact still shows my updated facebook profile image but my text messages still show my old picture. What gives?
I am not sure, but my ideas are as follows:
1. Titanium backup (if you're using it) restored to your contact picture at the time of backup and hasn't updated.
2. You have more than one contact for yourself on your phone.
3. Your Google+ profile picture is the one that is currently showing up in your messaging app.
4. HaxSync sucks?

4. HaxSync sucks? starting to think this. Might try contact picture from play store
So what's weird is when I view my contact in my list it shows the correct image. When I edit my contact it shows my old picture. I removed that picture and now my image is blank when I message. Something isn't getting updated correctly.

Mine did too, they were just blurry which is what started this whole ordeal. I downloaded and installed contact picture sync and while it works good, it doesn't interface with the "me" contact like haxsync or offer auto sync like facebook app or Haxsync. Oh well.
my contact pics are still the same pics that my FB friends have had since before I even had this phone...is there a way to force update?
i know there are apps, best one?

I haven't actually tried any of these ideas, but I think one might help, and they're pretty low risk:
Method 1: Toggle Facebook Sync
In Facebook app, settings, Other Settings, Contacts Sync, change setting from 'Sync all' or 'Sync with Existing Contacts' to 'Remove Facebook Data'
Hit the 'Sync/Done' button at top-right
Check your contacts and verify that photos/links have been removed
Return to FB app, same place, change setting back to 'Sync All' or 'Sync with Existing Contacts'
Method 2: Delete Contacts and Re-sync
If Method 1 doesn't work, try this. This method assumes that your contacts exist only in the cloud (e.g., on gmail, exchange server, etc.) and not locally, and thus can be re-synched easily. IF YOU HAVE ANY LOCAL CONTACTS THIS WILL DELETE THEM.
- Follow steps 1 and 2 above
- Exit the Facebook app
- Go to System Settings-> More -> Application Manager, swipe right until you see 'All'
- Scroll down to Contacts Storage and click on it
- Click on <Clear Data> and <Clear Cache>
- At this point, I'd reboot the device
- After re-boot, your contacts should re-sync from outside sources, (if they don't, go to System Settings-> Accounts and click on the account where your contacts are (e.g., Google) and the account name and it should sync)
- Follow Step 4 in Method 1 above
I found that you have to edit the contacts. If you have them attached to a gmail or outlook account then they default to that picture. I've had to edit a lot of my contacts bc of this.

I use the Sync.ME app. It downloads hi-res Facebook pictures and you can set it to run automatically on a regular basis.
Ubersync in app store works awesomely
Haxsync can solve this as well.

+1 for Ubersync. Works great, except I wish it didn't create an "Ubersync" account in my phone, but other than that, works great.
