Question about battery - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

So I've been hacking my atrix for a year and it had this issue with the battery where when you had a custom rom it would charge past like 95 or 97% does the s2 have the same issue?

I came to the S2 from the Captivate. The captivate would charge to 100 then when unplugged sometimes would immediatell drop 2-3 percent.
I have never had this problem, or one like yours at all on the S2. Mine charges to 100 then stays there for quite a while after unplugged.

The only battery related issue we have is that on a reboot sometimes the device appears to lose most of its battery (unfixable bug with our fuel gauge). After that it will either not drain at all for a long time or it might go up a couple of digits.

Thanks for the feed back and also I have no idea what cause the atrix problem

Isn't the "fix" for this to remove your battery for a couple minutes and after putting it back in, charge it to 100%? I've had the issue where the battery percentage would drop significantly after a reboot and after using this method, it seems to work fine until I flash another rom.

The only "fix" is do have it plugged in while you reboot it.

I had the Atrix and from my understanding over there that's not an atrix issue. It's built into the code of the phone to prevent "over charging" Stock roms would show 100% because they didn't want average consumers freaking out. But they removed it in custom ROMs so battery % would show correctly

Phone not reaching 100% while charging

Ok its me aging hopefully this hasn't been posted either cuz I haven't came across it....but anyway today I decided to calibrate my battery let it die out and charge while the phone is off...and this was around 5pm....I fell asleep and it is now midnight and its still charging and I know stock batteries don't need a lot of time to charge unlike extended batteries.....has anyone else come across this or does this phone need 7hrs plus of charging??

There is no need to calibrate the battery. When the phone reaches 99% charge capacity, it will take a while for it to achieve 100%. Once it achieves 100%, it will let the battery drop back down to 95% then it will begin charging back to 100%. It is a repeated process. It will keep doing this until the phone is removed from the charger.

That is interesting.. Are you using the stock battery/charger? Are you connected through an outlet or usb port?

Once you disconnect, your battery drops from 90 to 70 in a matter of minutes?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
If that is the case, I would say bad battery. BUT I do remember reading that there were some Evo 3D's that suffered from the same problem, and they were also getting extremely hot. If that is the case, I suggest exchanging.
Was your phone normal before?

It was normal as no issues that I've noticed but this was the first time I charged the phone being off also and I doubt an app wouldn't cause this specially when the phone is off so therefore nothing running

Let the phone die down to 15%, then charge it. If it drops significantly again, then we may have a problem. It could be a bad battery or an app you must have downloaded.

A smart phone is like a pocket sized computer. There can be malicious apps that can harm the phone. But if that isn't the case, I suggest hard resetting. If that still doesn't work, replace.
Edit: Try my other solutions first.

I personally had strange battery problems the first week I had the phone, and after that my battery life became quite good (I did the battery calibration technique from the og evo and it helped a lot also).
So if you're saying it's strange after a couple days I'd say give it a chance to go through a couple more charge cycles. I'd bet the issues will sort themselves out.

Look, it just does it for everyone. Its not an issue.
Apparently the latest release from samsung doesn't do this any more.
But essentially, as soon as one minisculer, tiny, mini, minute little bit of power is used, like 1 millionth of a milisecond of an LED light or screen on or data connection etc, its no longer truly 100%.
So if its 99.9999999999999999999999999999% battery, it shows as 99%.
I guess Samsung changed it to change to 99% later in the newest release because everyone whines about it. About 5 threads a week here.

Regardless of what the indicator displays, ion lithium batteries never charge 100%.. once it reaches 100% it discharges to avoid over charging..
It's not an issue..

Thats a rogue app causing the high android sys.
+1, I've seen this on 2 handsets.
Using GSam Battery Monitor, then clicking on app usage ->android system -> manage -> clear defaults
The above seems to stop the issue after a reboot. I've not seen it happen again since I did that.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but 9hrs and 47% left doesn't seem like a problem... if you take your phone and leave it on (with screen off) and wait until it dies then charge and turn on you will see that the "system" eats almost all your battery. There is nothing wrong with your phone unless you used it a ton and the system still eats all your battery which If that is the case and it's been 9 hours and had 47% battery then I would think you were doing MUCH better than most, imho.

any ideas? seems like xda needs to be manualy killed or it ends up using alot of resources in the bacground
I have seen the same on my phone, but it has not happened consistently enough for me to narrow down the possible cause...
Happened to me once so far. Charged my phone to full and went to work. I didn't use my phone for anything other than to check the time. I started noticing that the back of the phone was getting very hot, more so than when charging. I pulled my phone out and the battery was waaay down :
Hasn't happened since (fingers crossed).
Edit: I guess mine wasn't the Android system, but cell standby.

The fix for the cell standby drain is easy, see here: http://techsplurge.com/10665/solution-samsung-galaxy-s3-cell-standby-battery-drain-problem/ As for the android system drain it seems to have resolved itself. I still get alot of kernel wakelocks from bam_dmux_wakelock though

You need a real charger. Not a micro usb. Either that or you need a new battery. Roms are not the cause of bad battery.

Get a new battery first let it calibrate itself after a few recharge decharge cycles and then report back. The amaze has some bad batteries that HTC will replace and or T-Mobile also.

Unpredictable battery life

I got this phone used so I'm not sure if there's something wrong with it or not. My phones battery is completely unpredictable, first off, it won't charge to 100%, the highest it goes is 95%. Next, it discharges extremely quickly. The charged % on the lock screen and the % in the notification bar are close to each other, but rarely ever the same (this includes the % displayed in my recovery too). Today my phone was at 19% when it died, so i plugged it up and when it came back on i had 9%, i rebooted once more. This time i had 57%! I mean no matter what i do its never consistent. Can someone recommend a rom+kernel combo to fix or test this? I've tried wiping the battery stats and it doesn't help.
Thanks.

That could happen if your battery is aged or it has overheated at some point so one of it's cells doesn't do it's job as it should.
