[Q] How to Flash Stock ICS on Xperia S - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi,
I'm new to xperia S but had experience with Flash tool as I had flashed kernals before for my arc S. Now my concerns for xperia S is as follows:
1) Is there a specific version of Flashtool that supports Xperia S ?
2) Any options that I have to check for a clean wipe ?
3) Can I repair after the Flash is complete and keep the version of ICS that I flashed?
I'm on stock ICS now without any modding or unlocked bootloader. My main purpose for flashing is for a clean install and hope that quick launch for camera bug is fixed.
Thank you in advance

- The quick launch of the camera works on my device with Firmware 6.1.A.2.45
- I use version 0.8.6 of Flashtool
- what do you want to repair?
you can find everything here on xda...

The quick launch works but not 100%, it is on and off. When it works, it will keep working as long as I do it one after another. But if my phone idles for about 2-3 minutes, then the quick launch button is a hit or miss. It takes 2-3 clicks for it to activate.

U havent really read the thread on issues over ICS did you? Its been a problem from the last ICS update. Sony still didnt came up with the solution neither did admitted the problem officially though as far as their customer regards goes, they have already declared that over the next few months they r gona release firmware updates for the problems we r facing (quick lauch/Bravia Engine). So calm down and pray for the goods

That makes me rest at ease, I have heard from members that their phones work without the quick launch bug, I was left to think that something might be wrong with my device or firmware/region. Now that I know that it's a known issue, and not yet resolved in the latest ICS update, I will wait for the next one or possibly flash back to Gingerbread.
Thank you for clearing that up

[Q] Official ICS ... but could we downgrade ?

A simple question, now i'm waiting for ICS, it's a new thing and i have the curiosity to try it, but if it is laggy or slow, not smooth, can we downgrade to 2.3.4 without get some surprise like 0% battery issue ?
This is a must have for who want to try the difference between ICS and GB without unlock bootloader, and so decide to keep one of them.
Thanks

Yes we can downgrade, i had unlocked bl and was running the beta 2 months or less ago, so i want back to locked bl and running GB again damn it was a drama, 1st flash a costum rom and a different kernel, then i relock my bl and then i re update my Neo V with Pc companion, but after that i do it never again
Sent from my Supercharged Neo V with a tiny keyboard and using Tapatalk Premium !!
I guess nobody knows that right now
will see what will be happen after a downgrade maybe get some surprises or not all
I went from ICS BETA ( One which sony provided not modded or anything clean) to 2.3.4
No problems
LEts wait and watch
So far with every ICS rom I tried(including ICS beta from Sony) going back to 2.3.4 didn't had any problem. We'll wait and see what happens with official release
OK so I tried it too just today, it works with no problem to go back.
i hope sony will release ICS this week since its already mid-april....
I downgraded from every ICS Rom (Beta, AOSP...) to Stock GB via Wotan Server, without troubles, It is easy... The first time will take long (because it will download the FW files, but after will get just 1-2 minutes. Just connect your phone in Flash Mode and you are done

[Q][Mini Pro][Firmware]Last Firmware before ICS available anywhere?

Hello,
I am looking for the last pre ICS firmware for my SK17i. I am currently back on 4.0.2.A.0.42 since ICS was not the best performance wise and the notification LED didn't work (please let's not discuss ICS vs. GB here)
So now I wanted to flash the latest pre-ICS firmware which as far as I know is 4.0.2.A.0.69 (only for germany, but that's where I live). Or 4.0.2.A.0.62 which maybe is easier to find. Now I do know about the !PreRooted 4.0.2.A.0.69 in this thread. However I had quite a few problems with aswell as others described in this thread. Most importantly the flashlight wasn't working at all, the keyboard layout was way off (not just qwerty instead of my german qwertz). I'd really appreciate any help in this matter.
Also: I am a complete newb concerning android but I tried my beast to research this before posting
Thanks,
SM
Keyboard layout depends on the firmware region.
Flashlight problem seems to be related to the baseband, I have heard. Even though I kind of doubt it, but still worth of trying.
If you root your .42, you should be able to update via OTA (it means via WiFi and the app Update Centre) to the last 2.3.4 build without loosing root
Thanks Feanor88! I had only opened the update centre once and it told me everthing was up to date (forgot to refresh/recheck via menu).
Now it show's the international 4.0.2.A.0.62 Upgrade. But if I try to install it it reboots a couple of times and then starts up with the old FW and tells me the install was not possible and I should try again. Which I did with the same outcome. Any Idea what could be the hinderance? I'm rooted with CWM installed, bootloader is locked (never touched it).

CWM is the trouble creator. You will need to come back to stock and then try.

Thank you, that did it. Now I'm on the .62 GB firmware which I'm much happier with than ICS. At least now my Sound in Navigon and Skype work correctly, aswell as the notification LED and games like Osmos don't randomly quit

Uhm... I don't understand... you flashed .58, rooted it and then flashed .42? If so, fist of all you lost root. Second of all, OTA update only lets you update to GB .62. If you want to update to ICS, plug your phone to PC Companion or Sony Update Service.
Last but not least, the firmware you flashed might not have received the ICS update yet. If so, you can flash ICS the same way you flashed GB. HERE is a tutorial about how to root ICS. Read it carefully before you update.
Task killers consume a lot of battery. I recommend to remove taskiller apps.(same for antiviruses)

[Q] Xperia Ray not working properly after flashing and rooting. What to do?

Hello everyone.
I tried rooting my Xperia ray today using this guide: http://mytechencounters.wordpress.com/2012/03/17/root-your-xperia-phone-without-voiding-warranty/
Bear with me, you might find all of this tedious to read. My phone came with GB 2.3.4 build .62 which is hard to root. So as the above guide directed, I downloaded a .42 build firmware, CE(Central Europe perhaps? I don't know) and tried to flash it using flashtool. I disconnected the phone from the PC in between. My phone wouldn't boot. Then I used SUS and updated it to ICS, making the phone work. I then flashed it to GB .42 patiently, and with success. Alas, problems started immediately. Many processes such as media, calender storage, acro etc came up as stopped working. Even after selecting force close they would keep appearing. I cleared the respective cache/data and the notifications stopped. Then I rooted it using Doomlord's toolkit, and updated to .62 via OTA, keeping my root. A few things have changed. The keyboard name is the same, International keyboard, but it is different and I don't like it. Camera is not working. Screen goes blank if I open the camera. Messaging does not work and the messaging app crashes as soon as I open it. No contacts are found, despite importing them again. (They all show up when using the import from SIM option, it says importing is done but they are nowhere to be found). I called someone manually. While calling his name shows up but my contacts is completely blank. Google search is not working and it crashes too. There might be other problems, but I haven't checked. Anything in particular to check? Please help me solve all these issues. I'm glad my phone is rooted now, but it's next to useless due to all this. Please help me.
Great. Even the screen unlock security seems to not work. No slide to unlock. No pattern unlock even though I saved a pattern. I press the power button, the phone just shows the home. No security. How do I fix all this? PC Companion? SUS? And I don't want ICS so I won't use them if that's what they're going to update my phone to rather than fix it.
Do a complete wipe data/factory reset or flash .42 again, if this won't work take it to a service center cause it's a hardware issue

Oh my God. Yet again, a small step proved to be highly useful. I can't thank you enough! :good::good::good::good::good::good:
Side note: I'm thinking about unlocking my bootloader, mainly for installing a custom kernel to overclock and probably for using custom ROMs in the future. I know that I will lose my DRM, so I can't run trackid and timescape. What else wont I be able to run? Is DRM that important? Can I unlock the bootloader with a method that will keep my warranty? Thanks in advance.

No problem, hope it's going well now :good:
1. Overclocking can destroy your phone/phone's hardware. I've never overclocked and I wouldn't do it...
2. DRM are not important and trackid should work with the latest version. Not sure about timescape, maybe with an updated version it works
3. You can just keep your warranty by unlocking with testpoint method. Here is a great tutorial and sony won't notice it, only when your phone is bricked up
But testpoint is just working until a specific build number of the hardware, it should be mentioned somewhere in the thread!

Alright, thanks. I've decided to not unlock the bootloader, because all I wanted to do was overclock but I guess that's harmful.
Another side not: Have you bought an Xperia Sola yet? I read that you wanted to

Nope, after unlocking my bootloader and having Android 4.2.1 on phone I don't need a sola anymore. I would go for a Nexus 4, or in future for another nexus device :good:

Android 4.2.1? Oh just saw your sig you have CM 10.1. I've heard that Android 4.0 and above versions don't work well on 2011 Xperia devices.
How's it running? Is it better than the stock GB ROM? How's the gaming performance? If that's fine, I might install the ROM in the near future. Also, do you use Chainfire 3D? V6 Supercharger? Any other apps that enhance performance? Sorry for asking so many questions

I think you have gotten a lot of good advice from Mihahn and I just wanted to add some suggestions before you unlock your bootloader...you probably want to get comfortable working with CWM Recovery. It has been a while since I did this on GB but there are a bunch of tools that you can use to put recovery onto GB stock roms and a good place to start is this thread in Ray Dev: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426912
Also before you decide you just gotta have a certain ROM, take a good look at the OP for the ROM....there may be something not working correctly that would be a deal breaker for you....there are some features that only work properly on a stock based ROM. This is particularly true of the Jelly Bean 4.2 build for the Ray....the 4.1 ROMs are working pretty good.....but if you absolutely love the sony camera app then you have to stay on a stock ROM.
Have fun!

[Q] Xperia Sola compass not working on ICS Firmware 6.1.1.B.1.54

Hi!
I recently bought a Xperia Sola Phone and my compass isnt working properly. Bad thing is i did a lot of things before i even noticed this malfunction, so i'm not pretty sure if is a hardware or software problem. Here is my story:
After open the box, i tested some things quickly, but unfuortunely i didn't test compass because I ran for ICS update almost instantly (my bad).
I did it via Sony's Update Service because PC Companion update process didn't work (i use java sdk and jre 7 32/64 bits to do my job, so is an incopatibility problem, PCC needs jre 6). Well, installed Update Service all went great, i went from GB to ICS Firmware 6.1.1.B.1.54. I follow with a factory reset and tried a bit ICS but again, i didn't check compass. Then, I searched for a way to root and i found this method here in the forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029756 so i read tutorials on how to use flashtool and i did it. It was a success, i got the phone rooted. After the root i did another factory reset 'just in case'. Everything works great, really smooth, wifi ok so far, fm radio, 2g/3g, 2d/3d acceleration, gps, sound camera, rotation, glove mode, etc. Everything EXCEPT the compass. It barely change its values, tested in many compass apps, Maps and service mode. I haven't unlocked the bootloader.
As summary:
0. Bootloader IS unlockable, but i have not unlocked yet
1. I Updated to ICS Firmware 6.1.1.B.1.54 with Sony Update Service software, followed by a factory reset.
2. I flashed stock ICS kernel MT27i_6.1.1.B.1.10_KERNEL.ftf with flashtool software.
3. Rooted with Bin4ry's method succesfully (linked above).
4. Flashed MT27_6.1.1.B.1.54_KERNEL.ftf followed by another factory reset 'just in case'.
5. Started to enjoy my rooted phone after this afternoon when i noticed the dead digital compass
So here are my questions:
Does anyone facing this issue on GB?
or in ICS Firmware 6.1.1.B.1.54 unrooted?
or in ICS Firmware 6.1.1.B.1.54 rooted?
Is there a way to check if is it a hardware or software problem? I'm very angry with myself for not testing BEFORE updating and/or rooting!!
The good point is: i bought it very recently and the ICS on it and the kernel are stock ones so i can still use my warranty after unrooting the device, but im not sure if is a bug on ICS or the kernel i flashed as the last rooting move. Please i really need some quick feedback because in my country we have 10 working days since day of purchase to get a full refund of money if a product is defective.
Thanks in advance

Dude i did lot of times... but the same move i did on my old galaxy 5, an small 8 rotation was enough to calibrate that phone, so i tried the same with no results.
This noon I tried doing a big raging 8 rotation and now it works! I was so pissed, now i'm so happy.
So this thread is solved now. TY anyway!

I was facing the same problem with GB on my Sola for a long time now. I tried all sorts of things, but the one that helped was doing the 8 rotation as fast as I could, I mean I really waved it like crazy.
Now it works.
