After the ics 4.0.4 update to my 10.1 tab, I started having a strange problem with the stock browser. When I open a new
browser session, the browser opens to my defined homepage as expected; however, if I select the url and type any character
on the keyboard, the browser immediately redirects to the google search page. Because of this the browser is almost unusable.
Does anyone out there have any ideas? I fuzz'ed around with the settings for a while but no luck. Fyi, I don't have Google Instant enabled. Thanks in advance for any help

For some reason
when i open the internet browser up (i set the home page to be google.com instead of the t-mobile stuff)
the tablet version of the google shows up.
i was wondering if any one have the same problem
i haven't rooted or anything,
everything is pretty much stock.
i was wondering if there is any way i can fix this?
or if any one have the same problem.
Thanks
Nope
I don't seem to have this problem on both the stock and the Dolphin Browser. Have you tried installing another browser app from the market?
i found what the problem was,
i set the home page to Google.com
instead of www dot google dot com
now its fixed..
My wife gave me a White Galaxy S II international version from Amazon.com for Christmas.
I first noticed this with the stock internet browser.
I am having a little problem with the podcasts section on Engadget.com. As soon as the page is near or finishes loading, the browser crashes and I'm returned to the launcher.
If I am quick enough to long press on the .MP3 link to download the podcast it crashes without the save prompt showing up and the download isn't started.
I downloaded Dolphin Browser HD and I get the same results. This is the browser I used on my Inspire 4G with no problems.
This is viewing the desktop version of Engadget.com, also with either Android or Desktop as the user agent.
I don't have trouble loading pages on other sites.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
Just tried it myself and it worked fine. Are you trying the "save link" option? You could try "download all files" application from market. I've got it installed because I've had a problem in the past.
DoubleTwist
Try downloading the app doubletwist you don't need to sync it to your computer or use air sync all you need to do them is download the item again
Hope this helps
Not to be rude but I'm looking for a solution, not a workaround.
I could just stream it from the website or the Engadget app, but I want to download the podcast from the page as I'm reading Engadget posts without starting up another app to do something I could do easily on a much simpler and lower quality phone. The building at my work tends to kill wifi and cell signals so I need to download the podcasts to listen to them.
I did have cyanogen installed on my Inspire. I wanted to see if I could use this phone without ROMs.
Thanks anyway.
download all files from market , the stock browser doesnt download all file extensions mate , that could be the reason
dolphin browser is quite useless to download files...the best one to download files are the opera mobile. i used that to download basically everything....try it...

Like I said "download all files"
Just install it then use the stock browser to download the pod cast
The stock browser and dolphin can download mp3s from other sites. My Inspire 4G running cyanogen could do it, too.
Apparently there is some code on the Engadget page that my phone doesn't like.
The browser crashes as soon as the page either finishes loading or right before it finishes. It had nothing to do with downloads.
Edit: I installed Opera Mobile as recommended above by kruznix and the page loads properly.
I'm still curious if anyone knows why this is happening.
D'Oh! Thank you to everyone who read this. Simply clearing the cookies prevented the site from redirecting me to nirvana. Sorry for wasting your time!
I'll keep this here though, so anyone else suffering the same situation can find it.
Hi folks,
I'm afraid this is one of the rare ocassions for me when intense googling doesn't reveal a proper solution - or I'm missing the proper search terms.
I recently installed then uninstalled the app "Doodle Scheduling", the Android App to use the popular Doodle.com Meeting Planner.
The app offers an option to redirect any link related to Doodle back to the app, so that you can use the app instead of the website when someone mails you a Doodle link. (This basically works like Play Store links, when the browser asks you, wether youd like to open them in the Play app or in browser.)
While this option worked pretty well (actually the only feature of the app that worked as expected) I decided to dump the app, as it is probably the worst app I ever encountered.
Contrary to any other Android app that uninstalls without leaving any traces on the device, the Doodle app decided to keep the browser redirect hook. Now whenever I try to open a Doodle link the URL changes from "http://..." to "doodle-redirect://..." and the browser displays an error message like "You are not allowed to open this site" (My error message is in German).
Where in the android system are those redirect hooks managed? I'm rooted, so I 'm able to change config files all over the system. I'd be more than happy if someone could provide me with a hint, since at the moment I'm not able to use doodle at all from my phone. I am not willing to erase browser data as all my bookmarks would go down the drain as well...
Details if needed:
Motorola Defy
CM7.2
Stock Browser
Miren Browser (Problem exists in both browsers, Stock browser usually freezed via Titanium)
Thank you very much in advance,
modmatt

this type of settings is usually reset by going to Settings/Applications/ and pressing the "Clear defaults" button in the individual app settings, maybe the same trick would work in your case - ie. you could try to reinstall the app, and clear it's defaults before uninstalling?
Thank you for your solution. Unfortunately that was not the thing, as I hadn't had that application installed so I couldn't clear any defaults.
However I found the solution and wrote it above the first post.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to read my post!
Hi,
I am using Galaxy s3 and upgraded it to Jelly Bean.
Till now whenever I used to click the link in S3's default internet browser, I used to get the app to open it. For e.g. if i clicked on Google play link, it used to open google play appl. Or if I click on youtube link it used to open youtube app on my android device.
But now, every time i click on any such link, it opens app in web browser. It is very much annoying.
I have cleared all the defaults of all the apps like Internet, Youtube, Google play etc but the issue still continues.
Seniors can you please help me in this issue. I really tried all the things but no success.
Awaiting for your help.
Kind Regards,
Anoop.
Possibly not much of a solution but try using a different web browser, there are far better than stock. Try using dolphin browser HD or Chrome. There are a few more but they are the ones I recommend.
Sent From My Omega'd Galaxy S3 ...
Has anybody got a solution to this? I'm also facing the same issue.
go to settings - applications - your browser - clear defaults.
then click a play/YouTube link and just choose the corresponding app

Doesn't work...interesting thing is even after clear defaults from dolphin as well as stock browser, it only gives me these two options to choose from when I click on any youtube link,e.g. in FB. It never gives me an option to select youtube app.
I'm on Viking 5.1 | Android 4.1.2, although I'm sure the ROM should not matter. I remember it used to work on 4.0.4.
I've rooted my G3 and have had issues with pages not displaying in full site views @ all (e.g. Accuweather) or incorrectly (e.g. Google Play) for some time now. I get "Server Error...Connection refused...Error 500" when trying to display pages in full site views in Chrome and Dolphin browsers. Other sites, like Google Play display incorrectly/wonky in full site and mobile views, meaning almost in a pure text view, no page search bar, etc. Also, I've noticed when going to the Weather Channel site, the page language displays English and Chinese/Japanese = odd. I've done a factory reset and still have this issue. I know this wasn't a problem before but I don't know if the rooting or use of of post root apps have done the damage. Right now, all I have are some basic rooted apps - ES File Manager, Cerberus, AdBlock Plus, SuperSU Pro, Titanium Pro, Webkey, Widgetroid, and Tasker. I've searched for answers and even went to LG for help, but nothing is resolving this issue. I'm @ a loss of what to do...anyone help, please?
What browser? I've had weirdness with the AOSP browser(s), never used Dolphin, Firefox, etc.
Chrome, both stable release and beta, work fine, altho I generally do not prefer full site view. If Chrome, perhaps try deleting Data then completely uninstall via Root Explorer / ES File Mgr by deleting the .apk in System/Apps, reboot, and download Chrome from Play Store.
It's the default browser with the phone, which is Chrome. I've tried Dolphin to see if it was Chrome and the same issues show up. It's odd that these problems didn't pop up until recently. I first noticed it when I tried to go from the Accuweather app to a detailed forecast via the app and noticed the full version webpage would not show. The more I looked into the issue, the more sites I noticed similar problems along with the newer issues mentioned.
Will the uninstall/reinstall create any issues since it's the default browser of the phone? I don't know if other parts of the ROM will falter when I try that fix.

Have you tried disabling the ad blocking? I have had problems (on a previous device) like this with certain ad blockers in place.
