Make sure you can unlock the bootloader on the phone you are about to purchase.
First, you should confirm that it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your phone by checking the service menu. In your phone, open the dialler and enter *#*#7378423#*#* (*#*#SERVICE#*#*) to access the service menu.
In your phone, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.

I havent see the specs, have to chec kit out. But im not aiming the most expensive, somewhere around xperia s xD
should be pretty much the same.. the specs are:
both sporting a 4,6 inch HD 1280x720p display
1,5ghz snapdragon s4 processor(way better and efficient than the S3 found in the S) + adreno 225(compared to 220)
the TX seems to have a removable battery and a sd card slot but i aint sure

what he means is that you should wait a little for the better choice rather than buy something which would be old after a month

XPeria S is a nice phone. Great camera, great display, snappy performance. More than capable of running Jellybean.
The latest firmware fixes the vast majority of annoyances and bugs. No real reason to NOT get one, if this is the form factor you like.
i haven't said it wasn't nice on the contrary, i'd love to have it i just said what the person said - a month isn't much if he doesn't want it badly, just that way he can get something even better

They spot the new dual core chip that's as good/better than the quad core

I would say get any other new Sony model that doesn't have the capacitive button annoyance. If you like XS design wait for SL. I am hoping they will fix the issue in the new model. Else, go for the newer models. I seem to like Acro S design better than new models.

acro S also use capasitive, but worst battery life compare to T,TX,J
I'd compare with newer models, there's not much difference,
Help me analys,
at least:
1ghz
512mb
5mp camera with face/smile detect
4inch
And cheapest among those phones.
Should i buy an xperia acro S or thr galaxy s3 LTE dual core version with 2GB RAM ?
Or better yet stick with my iPhone 4s ?

I bought my X10 same day it was released in Sweden. (I think it was 31th march last year)
Have upgraded my phone with Free X10 beta 3 and are still using that.
Vignette and other apps does not take as good pictures as stock SE ROM does, but I refuse going back to SE 2.1 again.
Then I became really excited when I noticed that Trip will try to port a ROM from X10 Arc, but now it seems like that is a progress that won't be really finished (I mean working with X10, camera and camcorder).
I think its about time to abandon my X10 now.
My question is, which phone should I buy?
I want a real good camera (and a camcorder that records in HD)
I want speed.
I want good screen behaviour like iPhone. (x10 screen isnt the best IMO)
I want a big screen. (no tablet size)
I want Android 2.3
If I should stay with my X10 for a while, is there a "monster-phone" upcoming? Brand doesnt matter for me now, so long its Android OS.
NO:
iPhone
Arc (Don't think the screen is as good as iphones)
Well theres a lot of phones coming out now..I'd wait and see what reaction they all get before jumping..
Sent from my X10 using XDA and Swype.
Arc has the better camera ( speed and quality ) till nic, with Exmor R sensors to record low light conditions... Other than that Galaxy S II can record 1080p videos, but will be poor in low light conditions

Lol these threads always turn out the same... I would start away from se stuff personally as dual core phones are going to be the next big wave. Buy something more future proof..
Atrix has a good camera, gets quadrant scores of 2400-2800 right out if the box, and has dual core so will be keeping with the times much more than the new sonys...

galaxy 2 is the best otherwise right now anyway...
You definitely want something with a tegra 2 processor
the whole dual core thing has been debated a lot, and not everyone thinks that it's the way to go just yet... it's new and android 2.3 doesn't fully support it... I'm undecided and would rather wait to see the real world reports before deciding if it's a good thing or not..

motorola's custom skin is built around it from what I've read, they get quadrant scores of 2400-2800 with absolutely no customizations..
I'm not even talking just about dual core, but also the graphics performance of tegra 2. There are going to be many awesome games coming out (and many out already) than can only run on the t2 chip..

Quadrant scores mean nothing, they are simply just numbers based on some hardware and software tests. My galaxy tab's score is twice higher than my X10's, yet it lags and too many force-closes, even though flashed it many times and have the latest update. In other words my X10 is a lot smoother
My point is you can't just compare two devices based on those scores, your argument is not strong enough. Have you tried the Atrix? Arc? if you did then you can say which is better, if not, you can't state your opinion as a fact
By the way Atrix will have a bootloader locked similar to the X10's, could be crackable but we have to wait and see the developers here and what they can do... Link
But I have to say, Atrix and Galaxy S II have better hardware specs than the Arc. But in the end you have to go with what suits your needs, dual-core? then don't go with SE. LG Optimus 3D might interest you, with 3D camera and glasses-free 3D parallax barrier screen technology.

processor technology moves too quick for ANYTHING to be future proofed.. all I really need in a phone is one which runs smoothly doing the things I want it to do, and is stable... that's why i'd rather wait and see how the latest batch perform in real world before I decide for myself which is best for my needs. One of which is Aesthetics - so SE gets my vote for that point.

Yes. It is a great choice. But you will have to say goodbye to it if it falls from your hand or slips out of your pocket as Screen will get a very stylish abstract like CRACK
Its design is too thin and glass is little bit thinner. So it can be easily broken in half.

Well, no it isn't.
If you like the phone, buy it. From what i've seen of the phone, it's certainly not the nicest on the market, and it falls short of other flagship devices in terms of spec.
Have a look around the XS dev community and see what the dev's are currently cooking for the device. I recently bought the SGSIII and the final deciding factor for me was in knowing that Samsung had a fantastic dev community - I haven't been disappointed so far ; )

According to Wikipedia the xperia z was launched 1st of March (UK) - but hey, I guess that's close enough to May
Anyway, I like what they've done with the Z1. They'll probably do the same with the Tablet Z, I guess.
I was just thinking about the same matter in the other thread in the General section.
My guess is Sony already has it, but didn't show at IFA because they didn't get the software ready in time (considering that they rushed to be able to present the XZ1 with a pre-release software).
The XTZ is already on the remaining stock list at our mobile phone operator, and pretty much sold out, so they will be waiting for the XTZ1 as well. Hopefully it will have GSM voice communication in addition to IP58, Snapdragon 800 + Adreno 330, 3GB RAM and a better camera.
But well, I have time, I'll get my first two tablets (for free) not before the beginning of next year, when my two data plans are due for renewal.

I'm still unsure as to what I should do, go ahead and buy the tablet z or wait for the new one, no info on release date, price and official specs.
Can get the Tablet Z for £350.
There hasn't even been rumours of a successor has there? General wisdom is if you are always waiting for the next one to come out you're never going to have anything
Sony updates their tablets yearly, not like their phones (which are updated like every 6 months), so there wont be a new tablet til may I think (though it was announced first in japan).
I bought one a month ago and its actually pretty god for what I use it to (casual gaming, browsing, reading books, social, etc) and its the best tablet I've come up to light, thin and really really beautiful..

If you want a damned good tablet then I would go with the XTZ, especially since there aren't even any credible or half decent rumors floating around on an updated XTZ.
If it were me I wouldn't wait another 6 months to get the updated version, one reason being that even if they do update all the components you most likely won't be able to tell. The XTZ is fast as hell, the screen is FHD (even if they updated with a screen like is in the new Nexus tabs you wouldn't be able to tell the graphics were any better), everything I have thrown at it (including Arena and the extra large Daggerfall install running in Dosbox Turbo, both of the GTA games on the market, and a ****load of other resource intensive games) haven't slowed it down or caused any lag whatsoever. If you really have to have the newest processor then wait til Samsung releases their new tabs or wait on the new rumored Transformer pad to drop, just know you could be waiting 6 months or more for those to drop too.
I always craved the latest and best hardware but with the XTZ I don't have that issue anymore, it is able to withstand anything I can throw at it and then some. To me it isn't worth waiting on the next "X" tab to drop, the XTZ is and will be able to stand toe to toe with a lot of the newly released and upcoming tabs.

New tablet is slated for spring of 2014 to replace the current XTZ. That was all the info I have gotten from my contact. No specs as of yet though I would expect at least a snapdragon 800. As it stands I'm still very happy I got my XTZ. Great tablet. If I hear more on the new one I will let you all know.

@Spectre51 Cheers, Spring 2014 is still about 6 months away so its pointless waiting.
It's been one year. I love this phone.. best ever and now with recent updates and development, even better. But one year is a long time. A year ago this was the latest and greatest.. now I'd like to see a better screen, faster processor, definitely a MUCH better camera & 4K Video.. at least. Sony is starting to fall behind on camera matters and that makes no sense.. Sony makes some of the best cameras and sensors in the world.. but the iPhone camera overall is better and cleaner, Nokia is totally kicking butt, HTC is making some cool new things and Samsung's new sensor technologies starting with the S5 and future phones is serious stuff. The Z Ultra camera is at best OK from 3 years ago standards and the Z1's was a disappointment while the Z2's is yet to be taken for a good ride but seems just a tweaked firmware version of the same hardware.. I don't hear any rumours of a possible successor for the Z Ultra. I wonder when and what Sony will come out with to better this phone just as they've done with the Z2. The Z2 is definitely not revolutionary, just incremental. But that's enough.. improving a great product is a great way to go.
Maybe the Z Ultra wasn't sold as often as expected as this phone isn't for everyone. Sony maybe considers the Z Ultra as some kind of failed experiment...

nah i dont think it needs a follow up successor phablet *NOT JUST YET., we all know that our 6.4 in screen is quite a lot but as far as XZU is running until now. Its over all performance on both technology and design it is still kicking some butt. as a user from the the 1st Xperia namely the x1., XZU is the far best beast of all xperia in term of its performance and built., for me XZU just need a little push to get along some software upgrade to make the consumer wonder why XZU is worth buying for.,

I am waiting for an overclocking kernel that can push the CPU to past 2.5GHz.. easily done.. all Snapdragons have plenty of headroom for overclockin.. in fact tthe new 801 CPU is the same with high speed.. same one with a better GPU.. I bet the 800 could go near 3.0GHz.. my wife has a Samsung Galaxy Mega (less than 1/2 the cost of the Ultra Z) that has a Snapdragon 400 or S4 (..whatever people wanna call it) and it's base speed is 1.7GHz running at 2.3GHz stable with a custom kernel under Android 4.2.2.. totally kicks butt.. also a great phone from Samsung that maybe they will not update..

Nothing great about that phone. The screen sucks so bad it should be banned.

The Galaxy Mega, lol, the pixel density is so low that I could never use it. I set my dpi at 280 on the XZU and it is perfect.

Did you immersed yourself with this SG mega? And you know over clocking your device will lead you to over heating and its not good for your device.,

Ran the original Galaxy Tab 7 for 3 years at 1.4GHz from 1GHz.. and still working today. Ran the Galaxy Mega for 6 months and going.. and am yet to know anyone frying a phone because of overlooking.. on the other hand, my iPad 3 burned my hands every day at its native speeds. If I could run the Ultra Z any faster, I would. Speed rules and lag cools

It will be a beast if marketed correctly. Also if they release sources so people can get best ROMs - many will move from Z Ultra. But what I like on my ZU is build quality if Nubia is close to it - I might get it. If it`s some kind of cheap plastic - I ll wait for ZU2

It's half metal half plastic. Build quality definitely not as good as Sony but still better than Samsung i think.

Looks great. The problem is that usually there is positively NO development for these phones. Zero. Typically can't even get it rooted or ever get a recovery for it.. so, for me, useless.

Looks tempting but then again, with such form factor you need to trim the thickness or it will become harder to grab it. Plus it's not even a Sony, meaning there might not be an android update for it. Even Lenovo doesn't do anything about this.

Well I'm quite sure aosp and miui will be supported in the Chinese community. There's a miui for virtually every model from ZTE. Root is definitely possible as ZTE is a strong brand in China.

Correct! 100% my view also. Great as this hardware is, it's stagnant from its day one. For me, phones and tabs are 25% hardware and 75% what down the road the manufacturer and specially amazing people like the ones in this community, build upon there. No proper support or development makes the hardware utterly useless, no matter how great it is. My almost 4 years old incredible and iconic original Galaxy Tab 7 runs KitKat at 40% higher than its native 1GHz humble single core processor and very limited RAM. It's been years of joy and fun. Where will a "ZTE Nubia" be 4 years later?.. unthinkable. In fact, I'm down to the point of only buying 6 month old+ hardware after there are already fixes, updates, root, recovery & custom ROMs for it.. till then, phones are bricks. I have a friend that quickly bought a Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 in Hong Kong.. probably the most beautiful and near-perfect Tab hardware ever made.. no proper root yet, no recovery and of course endless software bugs and Samsung bloated software that make the unit nearly unusable.. pointless. Give it a few months however and hopefully the hardware will have software to make it justice..
Chinese do not update or support anything they do. They just rush things out. It's their culture. A "support" or "update" usually means, new hardware. Support and updates don't make money. They cost money. The Chinese are not into that. There are 1.4 billion buyers.. they can dilute their needed support into voices that will never get heard and sell in the meanwhile millions of new machines..
a ZTE?.. let me laugh.

Actually as of now, rooting can be achieved because there is a security hole that a root exploit can, umm, exploit. So it is unsecure. If any malicious apk get installed, your phone can be ruined. So for a big company to neglect that aspect indicates that they really don't care for their phone. But it's good for the community i guess as long as they steps in right direction.

starting to get antsy about a new phone around this time of year and was wondering about a z ultra 2
Yes, we should. DoomLord said that we won't see an Ultra 2, while some othrr info says we will, but we should've seen something by now. A leak or something, but we haven't seen anything at all, so I'm starting to think that we won't see a Ultra 2.

Maybe they replace it with the t2 ultra...so z ultra 2 wont be coming...maybe..

it would have to be a large screen otherwise what's the point? i'd have to go back to samsung. not sure who else would do a phone that's comparable tbh
I have been saerching through the net and emailing Sony but there are absolutely no response. 1st gen Z Ultra is a very decent phablet with few problems that can be solved. Sony is making a mistake by discontinuing this product. There will be no rival phablet against the note series this year if Sony does not release ZU 2. Big mistake. Such a nice phone going to dust. If I can find Jun Katsunuma's mail I will be mailing him everyday.
Check out this. It lists three codenames for coming Sony devices. Leo and Aires, which probably are respectively Z3 and Z3 Compact, and Pegasus, which is unknown. Possibly an Ultra? I wouldn't be too worried, anyway. I agree that our Ultra is still an excellent device and will hold up very well until the next evolution in SoCs (64-bit), at which point we'll probably get a successor.
There will be no direct successor or Xperia Z Ultra 2. However, there will be a newly named item with a slightly smaller screen (6.2") with all the top end hardware and specs. There will also be a 5.4" version. Here's what Sony has developed and will put to use shortly:

My contract is up in October and eligible for a free upgrade in August so a new Ultra would tie in nicely but I'm sceptical as to whether we'll see a successor. The original device was fantastic but I can only feel it missed the boat on so many aspects and with low shipping numbers I'd be surprised if Sony dare to venture into the market again.
However, if Japan Display have just announced a 6.2" unit it will have to appear on some phone, some time so lets hope it's Sony.
An IR Blaster and 13mp rear facing camera would be welcome with an LED flash.

With the specs of that display it will most likely be a high end device. I don't care what they name it. I would hope they step up their game rather than concede that market to Samsung.
