Noob alert, minipaper problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello droid pro's,
I will just cut to the point.
I have been reading the forum for the last 2 days, and could really use a pointer.
My problem: stock (dutch) sgs2 ofc. updated from 2.3.3 (jhello.) to 4.0.3. via KIES.
Loss of all my minipaper notes. eventhough i did a full kies backup.
what i found on the forum:
Hi guys,
I've found a way to solve this problem after I upgrade my sgs2 to the v.2.3.5 .
First, you have to root your phone. There are plenty of tutorial on the web to help you. Then install a file explorer with root access (such as Root Explorer but it is not free). Finally, go to /data/data/com.sec.android.widgetapp.postit/databases and copy (in a folder you can access with normal user) the file postit.db
Connect your phone to your PC and copy the file. Then you can read it with Notepad as a .txt file.
eventually i would like to go to SiyahKernel v4.1.1 on a stock XWLPT ROM or XWLPT ROM and Phenomenal 6.1 Extreme.
since (with thanks of IT_IER) looks to be a nice combination to run.
current phone info.
droid version, 4.0.3 untouched.
baseband I9100XXLPW

no idea what you need to give a answer to the following question, but i read to atleast put this onfo in the post.
1) what root to use to test the theory of the user, or a if this could even work, I had about 3 screens with 4 notes and loads of data i really need in there.
2) does this void garanty, do i need a NAND backup, or eitherway, what would be first to do. ( not that i would really care about garanty, though it might be convinient)
3)the way to get to proposed ROM.
ps all i look for is stability, and maybe some improved battery live, with 4.0.3 /4,0,4 user comfort +
I know these are nubb questions, but I would rather just do it correct once than having a brick,
I did ****loads of Iphone's back in the day, but am relative new to droid. eventhough i allready own the phone for a year.
and i now see this post should have been put in Q&A ****e, my bad
last off, sorry for the typo's i aint native english.
thanks in advance.
Melvin.

**** me, that didnt quite work out.

Firstly, thanks for putting so much information about your phone.
All you need to do is go to the Android ROM section for the HD2 on here and select an ROM you like the look of. The chef of the ROM gives instructions on how to get Adnroid running.
You are not flashing Android to your phone, but actually running it from the SD Card. You download the files into a folder called Android in the root of the SD Card. Then you run two files in this folder. WinMo will shut down and reboot into Android (this initial boot will take about 20 minutes).
There is also an app in that section which gives you the option to switch between operating systems at bootup - this is installed in WinMo.
The only problem I have found is the first boot back to WinMo is that the time and date was totaly wrong. That problem disapeared the next time.
I won't recomend which ROM to use, as I haven't used Android that much and what I might like you may not.
thnxs for replyng but just tel me as there r too mny options ..i just need help tht wht rom wil b suitble for mine as it says tht u have 2 hve rom 10.6 or 201. sumthng like tht..
n i think i cudnt find tht andriod section for hd2..cus u give me a link plss
The only real requirement is to have a RADIO 2.8.50 or above (of the .50 type) - which you already have on your phone.
* HERE * is the one I used. I downloaded '512MB data.img' and 'DOWNLOAD v. 4.6'. I unzipped them and placed the files in 'Android' in the root of the SD Card. Used file explorer on the phone to run "CLRCAD.exe" then "haret.exe". The phone then booted into android. It looks good and runs well, although I haven't fully tested it. If you want to replace it with another, then simply replace the Android Folder.
I'm not giving you answers but i wanted to advise you :
When you use correct grammer and spelling, Good English, you will get more attention and more people will answer your question
yes thnk u soo much it wrkd but battry drains very fast..and why does it goes bck to htc sense after everytime its off.....do i need to run haret al the time after i switch it on?? arnt there any method where i can let it be on andriod ..??

your android system will remain the same, apps, contacts and all, every time you reboot - if you do not upgrade/update your android files.
And yes, you do need to go thru the same steps every time you reboot your phone. Run CLRCAD, then HARET.
There are a couple of autoload/booters floating around the forums. I personally use m_skip's autoloader (do a search, sorry, I don't have the link)
And yes, android does use up the battery pretty fast. There are a lot of helps to stop this - but you need to do your own searching on that in the android threads

[Q] perhaps a complicated question?

please forgive me for asking the following questions... i'll list phone info etc 1st...
(i have done my research not only on this site but many other sites... but poss cant find the answeres?)
details: i have a samsung (t-mob) vibrant : model # sgh-t959, firmware version 2.2, baseband version t959uvka6, kernal 2.6.32.9, (build number FRYO.UVKA6)...
**** note i updated from eclair via kies mini per t-mob's instructions as it was not avail OTA so i had to do it via a pc****(I DO NOT HAVE THE PC AT HAND AND AVAIL TO CONTINUE TO ROOT THE PHONE).....
-------
My question(s) if so can be kindly answered are as follows: (list of where i am in steps) to root my phone to get rid of bloatware.. but i THINK I NEED A ONE CLICK ROOT OPTION/APP to do so as follows per my computer situation and phone firmware?
#1 I run a MAC w/ 1.25 GHz powerPC G4 w/ Mac OS 10.4.11 having only 768 MB DDR SDRAM... none of the programs similar to kies mini run on my operation system because they req 10.5 or dual pross etc... so seems side mount/pc (not having a windows machine) will not work?
#2 i have tried ryan's z4 root and it does not work anymore after stock-up grade to froyo via kies mini from t-mob.
#3 i've been reading thruthis thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746129 DOES T WORK FOR 2.2?
#4 i dont really want anything special... i just want to get rid of the bloatware from t-mob... once up-dated to 2.2 added more now can't rot via one click/app...
(i have titanium back up and superbox, astro and oclf(which wont work now)
#5 i was looking at this galaxysroot apk .. but didnt see anywhere if it roots 2.2?
#6 FINAL QUESTION IS THERE A ONE CLICK ROOT OR A APK THAT I CAN USE W/OUT A WINDOWS MACHINE? OR ALSO IS THER A PROG THAT I CAN DN FOR MY MAC OS?
im a graphic designer/ also a discgolf basket maker... im willing to trade services...
i hope i've listed all info need for my situation... if not please contact me...
thanx for your time and viewing this message

If you could go use someone's PC, it would take less than 30 minutes to download the SMALL program file (ODIN) and then the 200+MB stock files needed.... once you have those on a PC, it takes about 3 minutes.
If you are having so many issues, certainly someone would let you borrow a PC?

[Q] ZTE v9 Light (Base TAB) newbie

Hey Folks,as u read: I am totally new to android.
But here are some facts about me I'll tell you just to say sorry for dumbp questions right at the beginning.
I have a good base of Linux knowlege and i also always was modding my phones. If it was my Motorola Razr v3i or my Rhodium Windows 6.5.
Most important: I REALLY dont want others to make MY work. Dont missunderstand me: Some People just dont have the ability to make that on their own and i think, they needed to be helped too, but not me. I want to learn it and i CAN learn it.
But sorry if I post a question in the wrong Forum or ask questions wich have been answerted pretty often. My Problem ist not to read or speak english: It is to imagine the words I need to use for google and stuff to find my answeres. So, some hints, tips or links to Howtos or stuff woud help me alot.
Burt here the bunde of my most important questions:
It all started with Adobe Flash. I guess my Pad has a arm6 or 7 CPU... it has 600mhz and i found a version for that here on xda- i installed it and its working so far for the adobe flv player and swf files but not as an plugin 4 the reguar browser or dolphin hd. any suggestions?
I also wanted to download teamspeak 3. it seems, there i have the same problem. it tells me, my device is incomatible at the market. So is there a way to get it anywhere else and my to recompile it and patch it to work?
next: i tried to root my device using androot and also z4root. it goes through the process without errors and everything seems to be fine but sshdroid tells me, root is disabled. the access to some locations of the phone still is denied and so i cant install nandroid for backups and before i will go on, i REALLY shoud install an backup solution, right folks?
Well- for the first, thats it. if i know that i guess, the rest is more easy to find out on myself as it is right noe.
Again: You dont need to make my work. sorry and thanks at once && greetings from ?good? ol' germany. Alex
well- one thing i also coud need some help... i was searching arround how 2 set my phone for data2ext4 ... but if i wont get running my phone rooted, i can forget about that, cant I? my card already hav an 4GB ext4 partition beside a 12GB FAT partition

[GUIDE] How to fix "unknown baseband" / "stuck on airplane mode" problem

[GUIDE] How to fix "unknown baseband" / "stuck on airplane mode" problem
Today my friend who has a i9100 as I presented the unit with the following problem: not connected in any way in the mobile carrier, airplane mode was stucked.
Well, looking on the internet and especially this forum, I found several solutions to make the flash the original rom to accept that his incredible Samsung Galaxy SII had become an amazing Samsung Play SII. As I'm Brazilian and never give up, here's what worked for me.
---------
Most importantly, use at your own risk. If you are unsure of the steps below, do not do or have someone who has more experience. The procedures worked for me, but does not mean it will work for you.
Special care was always doing this kind of operation in any type of phone: use good quality cables, make sure that there is no bad contacts and preferably make the flash operations with a notebook with the battery at 100% load and phone with 100% load. After all, nobody wants the operation is interrupted and you get a plastic brick.
----
Here are the steps:
1) Download this application: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546. EFS Pro serves to backup / restore partition EFS.
2) To use EFS Pro, your phone must be enabled with the root. To do this, follow:
2.a) Paving the way for SuperOneClick: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334
2.b) Using SuperOneClick to "open legs": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
2.c) Now, some screwdrivers and screws inside your device: https://market.android.com/details?...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsInN0ZXJpY3Nvbi5idXN5Ym94Il0.
3) Now the easy part, get another Galaxy S2 to be the "donor" baseband. You do not? Download mine by this link:
https://hotfile.com/dl/149885347/a004c04/EFS_20111227_235358.tar.html or https://rapidshare.com/files/2401446638/EFS_20111227_235358.tar. If you use my baseband, skip to step 3.b.
3.a) Pick up the phone "donor", run the EFS Pro and select the backup option. To accelerate the process, ask to put the backup on the sdcard. There, he set up and placed in the / sdcard / EFSProBackup.
3.b) Copy / Create the folder / sdcard / EFSProBackup problem to the phone with the same path.
3.c) EFS Pro back in, ask to restore the backup from the device (will find the file you copied) and ready.
4) Give the problem phone a boot and see the problem disappear.
----
This is my first post and hopefully it will be useful. Pay me a beer if you like it.
Hi, ljlima,
thanks for your report, I'am Brazilian too, but I'm almost giving up
Completely disappointed with this ****ty problem... Made a hard reset typing a code in phone keypad (since I could not access ID samsung in factory reset) and nothing...
Very afraid of following your instructions since I'am totally newbie and there is no replies confirming your method.
Is there a chance of solving this by upgrading android version (although KIES is crappy as hell) or other non invasive and easier method ?
thank you!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
SAVED MY GALAXY SII from Bell
Also, sometimes, if your /EFS is not totally corrupted, you can just reflash your modem. I had issues with this on CM7 nightlies, and my problem was always solved with a simple reflash. Its easier than restoring your whole /EFS backup, and a lot quicker. But, mind this is only if your /EFS isn't done for.
Thnx a lot. for refreshind download links.
any one confirm the success of this method?

"lambergino" user tryed on january and works. And I wrote this post after resolve my friend problem.
"Unknown" baseband on a non-rooted SGS2!
Help!
My SGS2 suddenly would not recognize any SIM after a failed attempt at backing up my files using the sh!tty Kies software.
All I did was make a backup using Kies and somehow it got stuck "Preparing". I left it overnight and in the morning, when I checked, it still didn't go through the backup process - just kept saying preparing. Anyway, I decided to cancel it as I needed to use my phone already. I clicked on the cancel button and guess what? It also got stuck in cancelling! I left it and went to shower and when I got back after about 15 minutes (probably longer), it still didn't cancel. Frustrated, I plugged the USB cable out. Later that day, I noticed that I didn't receive any SMS/call. Then, I noticed that the notification bar displayed the "no signal" icon. I rebooted my phone, hoping the signal would return. But, I still got no signal after it switched on.
I did a factory reset, hoping it will put everything back to normal. I used the volume+power key combination as the factory reset option under Settings, somehow, would not work. Anyway, after doing the factory reset, it still wouldn't connect to the network.
I then noticed that the About screen displayed an "Unknown" baseband version.
From what I read from this thread and several other forums, this could be due to a corrupted /efs partition, which could have resulted from improperly rooting/flashing the device. However, I never rooted my phone in the first place!!!
And I heard the ICS update is rolling out now but I can't update because, somehow, Kies won't connect to my phone anymore!!!
My phone now is practically a very expensive music player. THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING!!!
Please help, anyone!

Here are the steps:
1) Download this application: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546. EFS Pro serves to backup / restore partition EFS.
2) To use EFS Pro, your phone must be enabled with the root. To do this, follow:

As I said, try it on own risk. But I think that will work because other international users tried and worked, as you can see in this thread.
Good luck.
Donor EFS backup file needed..
Hi, I need a donor file compatible with EFSPro the links given in OP post have a .tar file whereas the latest version of EFS Pro works with a tar.gz with .img file in it.
I have also tried to replace the nv_data.bin file with the .bak version but the folder is Read only and I cannot over write the original file.
Any help is appreciated.

[Q] Remote Control Not working after Rooting for ICS Upgrade

Hi everybody.
Many years since I have been on XDA Developers. I recently got given a Sony Tablet S and, in my search for info, ended up here. Great tosee the forum is still great and very useful.
I am from the UK and rooted my tablet yesterday (using methods and SW found here) in order to upgrade to ICS. All went smoothly but I have noticed that I am unable to use the infra red functions on my Toshiba TV and Sky Satellite box after rooting and upgrading. They worked fine before.
Would this be anything to do with changing region?
My world will not end as a result of no longer being able to control my TV and satellite with my tablet. Just curious as to why.
Anyone with explanations or a possible fix, I would appreciate some advice.
Also - and this may just be me - I noticed that if you plug a USB device in or insert the SD card, it creates a folder in the Storage directory which is empty but cannot be deleted. So I currently have sdcard, sdcard1 and sdcard2 and usbdisk1 - usbdisk8. Is there any way to remove these as when I try to delete using File Manager HD, it says no.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I cant give u answer on all but it have two things
First : i hope u did not do a gegion chance while running ics i hope. Strangely enough i thought device should brick but idunno if its supported already
Second : there should be an option to accept root browsing and changing try "Root Explorer" the blue app you can change things if you want. Dont know how much you can adjust change delete etc. Didnt tryed all ofcourse and i think your regular internal sd can not be changed. Permissions for example.

I'm changing my device region all the time, now I've got sony tablet P region lol
About thread/problem name 'Remote Control Not working after Rooting for ICS Upgrade' - what root has to do with remote control?
If you don't want to have it, then you can reflash your device with stock ICS zip without any mod, root etc. Remember that its 'one-way-ticket'.
Maybe tomorrow I will check xda forum, and will find a thread about 'I used AiO tool, my leg does not bend to the end'.
OK so, the point is that most probably its an ICS issue.
I've got not-US region device, got ICS on it,
and remote control works just fine!
Start with wiping device, then check, then if its not good for you,
then you can still downgrade your device, back to 3.2.1.
(more info about downgrade in AiO thread - FAQ section).

HAHAHAHA lol xD
Thanks for the advice people.
Condi, thanks for taking the time to read and advise - It was your tool I used to root my tablet in the first place so that I could upgrade to ICS.
I think the point of my post may have got lost in translation a little. All I was saying was that before rooting and upgrading, I/R remote was working on my TV and Satellite receiver and after rooting and upgrading, it no longer does.
I just wondered whether the connection was known or obvious. I presume once Sony officially launch ICS in the UK, we will know!
Thx again
